I am unable to connect to the internet thru my router, Lynksys WRT54Gs. The network worked fine before I went on vacation. I accessed the internet by connecting the ethernet directly to the modem, and have been unsuccessful at my attempts to reset the router with 192.168.1.1
View 1 RepliesI have a Linksys WRT54GS router that is giving my some trouble. I recently got a new PC and moved my old one into my bedroom along with my Xbox 360. So I didn't have to switch my Ethernet cable between my xbox and pc I bought another cable. Much to my dismay this new cable would not work. At first I thought maybe the cable was bad, but when I connect my pc directly into my modem it works fine. This had my come to the conclusion that it was my router. I have two pcs hooked into it that work fine and a laptop that connects to it wirelessly, but if I try to hook my xbox or pc to it using the new cable they just act as if there isn't a cable connected. When I look at my router the light for the ethernet port that the new cable is in will flash on and off. I've hard reset my router and updated the firmware.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys WRT54GS (v5) router. I noticed that my firmware was outdated and tried to upgrade it tonight. During the upgrade progress, the browser reset the connection and now cannot access my router configuration pages.I did a hard reset. Then I did the 30-30-30 reset.
The reset worked but no matter what I do, I cannot navigate to any readable page within the router. I get the log in box and successfully log into the router. However, the configuration page(s) are all jumbled and devoid of useful information. It almost looks like a web page that needs flash to be enabled. Lots of colors and boxes but no text or links to other configuration pages
I know it's an old router but it has served me well. I would love to reinstall the old firmware (or new!) and copy my saved configuration file back to the router.Is there a way to access the configuration via a command line interface?
Why does err 0x80040900 show up sometimes when tx/rx email? I use a WRT54GS linksys router. I have more than one computer which use Microsoft Outlook 2003 to check email accounts. When the error shows up I can ping the server no problem. The error sometimes goes away and comes back randomly.

However if i set WEP password to protect the wireless connection, i am not able to connect to the wireless connection. Everytime i enter the passphrase, when trying to connect to the wireless network, it refuses to accept the password. I have tried this with 2 laptops (both running windows 7) and both have same issue.

I don't know what that did but I've been completely shut out of my connection ever since and I don't know how to fix it. I tried doing the install sequence of the router just now (Clone MAC address, then release and renew DHCP, power cycle modem, router, and PC) but it still didn't work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a HP laptop (runs Windows 7), and lately when I either turn it on or log back in for the first time in a day, it's not connected to the internet, despite my brother's desktop computer (Windows XP) being connected (it's right beside the router and modem). Before, we would have to just unplug the router for a few seconds and then plug it back in again to get the connection to work again on my laptop, which that alone we don't understand why, as there are periods of time we have no problems connecting on either end, like I just bought this laptop at Christmas and have had no connectivity problems until now. Now however, when we unplug the router and plug it back in, it kicks my brother's computer off the internet despite his connection being good prior to, apparently it loses its IP address when we do that. So then we have to unplug/replug the modem and router plus sometimes restarting my brother's computer to finally get it working again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router (10.77.79.1, 255.255.255.0) which hands-out DHCP addresses to my wireless/wired clients. This router is connected to the cable modem which then connects to the wonderful World Wide Web. Port 1 of this router is connected to a Cisco SG200-8 Small Business Switch (10.77.79.3, 255.255.255.0). My Dell 2950 is then connected to the SG200-8.
I would like to segment my lab environment (Dell 2950) using a 192.168.10.X scheme, so I configured a static route in the WRT54GS using these settings:
Dest. IP: 192.168.10.0
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.77.79.3
Here is my IP information for the SG200-8:
IP: 10.77.79.3
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.77.79.1
I know I'm doing something wrong because I cannot ping any of the 192.168.10.X IP addresses from the 10.77.79.X network, and vice-verse. All VLANs on the SG200-8 are set at their defaults (1 and Trunk?).
Are there any additional configuration steps I need to perform in the SG200-8 or WRT54G? Is what I want to do even possible with my hardware?
I have a conflict with my satellite Internet connection between the modem and router IP addresses. I also somehow entered a password for the router which I now cannot duplicate. received a request for additional information which I responded to in September. I attempted to follow-up in October again, but I have not received any reply since the first one on August 11, 2011.

I currently have an Airport extreme hooked up to a cable modem and a leviton gateway hooked up to the Airport. The 2 computers connected to the Leviton are on a windows 7 homegroup and share fine, but won't share or discover any wireless device connected to Airport. My main goal is to have a wireless/wired network with all computers sharing information with each other. Basically, under certain situations it will constantly drop out, by which I mean all computers will lose connection with the wireless network for about 30 seconds and then reconnect.This is happening with two different wireless routers so I don't exactly know what is happening. I usually use a Linksys WRT54GS v7 but after this started happening I borrowed a friend's Linksys WRT54G2 v1 router to test it out with no change. I also updated both router's firmware last week, and changed both router's channels to 1 in case that was a part of the problem. To clarify,only one router is being used at a time, I have just tried different steps with each one.The other day when it was happening repeatedly, I connected one of the computers directly to the modem and had no problems so I do not think it has anything to do with my modem. On the network, depending on the time of day, there will be any combination of three macbooks running the latest version of snow leopard and one older PC running Windows XP. The network can drop out with only the PC, no PC, or any combo of macs. There can also be two iPhones and a Blackberry using the wireless depending on who is home. The most consistent problems seem to occur whenever something is being uploaded. We seem to get major issues when my wife is sending relatively large files (5MB+) using her macbook's mail program (either sending through gmail or her work address). However, yesterday it was happening every 30 seconds when someone was talking on skype on her macbook while there were two other macbooks connected to the network but doing nothing more than using a browser for basics like google.I have also noticed that this will often happen, though usually only once rather than repeatedly, when a computer that hasn't been on is turned on.

I tried to update to 1.3.0.59 this morning. It succeeded and the switch was restarted. After the restart I could no longer log into the switch. I tried to reset the switch but it still will not let me log in. I also tried to log into the switch using the forllowing method but I still cannot log in. I unpluged everything, held the reset for at least 30 seconds, waited 3 minutes, plugged a computer in and set it up to see the switch. All worked there and the login page appeared. It still would not take my login dredentials nor wold it that the default credentials. I has access through the switch but connot configure anything.
The IP address is unknown and we need to reset the switch. SInce we can't access the configuration menus. I was wondering if we could reset this device to factory defaults another way. I couldnt locate a reset switch.

I use Cisco switch sg300-28. When i turn it off and turn on, it reset to factory reset include login password, dose it normal operation or I miss anything?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy company just bought a SF300-24P, got it configured without much issue. Today I try to get into it and I can't. Tried via HTTP and console and nothing happens. Decided to try to reset it using the button on the front. Using the documentation, I held down the button for over 10 seconds. Didn't reset to factory defaults, tried again and rebooted it, still nothing. What I am I doing wrong. Also nothing comes up on console window and I'm using the setting for Hyper Terminal that the documentation says I should use.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi have a router connected to my ISP which can get me 2 different IP's at all times (the router gets one IP).Now i want to get my computer to have a different ip as my router has (seen from outside my home network) - i want my computer that accesses the internet through my router to have a different IP as my router. I know that if my computer gets it's IP from my router's subnet, then it will (seen from outside) always have the same IP as my router. So the question is how do i get around this ? Do i just have to change my PC's DNS / gateway settings to match my router's ? The PC is connected to my router via wifi. Or would forwarding some ports on my router work ?

But those routers were different models.This particular one is quite something. I reset it and when I tried to connect back to the network it asked me for a security key! I have tried everything from admin, password, 12345, the old passwords it had.. nothing seems to work.It gives a 'limited connectivity' message and the diagnosis tool asks whether the security key is correct. And it only accepts five characters (alphanumeric)So obviously I cannot try the default IP in the browser to access its settings, I can't even connect to the router.Are there known routers that ask for a security key even after resetting?
