Set-up Network Imaging Server

Jan 12, 2012

I'm a computer tech at a small, local computer repair shop in my area. We make and keep images of various models of computers as we reload them to speed things up and cut costs for future system repairs. Our current method of storing images is ancient and I'm hoping to get a good server method going so we can move away from it. I'm looking for one of two ways to set this thing up:

1 - Boot the client machine via PXE to the server, peruse the images to find the one I need, and then commit the image to the system.

2 - Boot the client machine via a boot disk, peruse the images on the server, and then commit the image to the system.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960S - Multicast Imaging And VLANs

Oct 2, 2012

This is the deal, I used Acronis for imaging workstations.  Obviously when I do that it drags everything down to a halt, as all the ports are being flooded with packets.  So what options do I have to image (as opposed to doing it after hours or try to plug all the computers into one isolated switch? = )

VLAN 1 has well everything in it, PXE server, DHCP server and workstationsVoice VLAN 100 is on every trunk or connection a workstation would be attached to.

There is another equipment I'm not illustrating... although a part of me wonders if my topology is correct.

In any case, I've read about IGMP Snooping, CGMP, etc-- but I think the 2960S are only capable of IGMP Snooping.

And from there I'm a little confused about configuration of IGMP...

Network Shaping Through A Server?

May 22, 2012

I recently upgraded my AT&T dsl connection from 3.0Mbps to 18Mbps and I'm ready to fully optimize my network. Some bandwidth intensive programs, such as netflix and youtube, can hog all that bandwidth relatively quickly, so what I want to do is limit/reserve bandwidth to each individual computer on my network so online games and latency-oriented programs still function at an acceptable level. I have my connection running as follows: modem (controls dhcp) --> bridged connection server pc (2 nics) --> router --> every other device on the network. It all works beautifully except my router doesn't have QoS software on it therefore, I can't do the limiting there. Is there any way to use the server pc as a network shaping device, controlling downstream traffic? I've googled and come up with nothing definitive as people don't seem to do this very often.

Setting Up A DNS Server On Home Network

Jan 18, 2011

I have a small home network. My goal is to use Windows Server 2003 R2 to setup a DNS Server that can create a few simple names for some devices on my LAN, such as my printer. My DNS server will forward other inquiries (like google.com) to OpenDNS. Additionally, I don't want to setup a domain controller for my network. I wish to continue using workgroups, how to setup a Windows DNS Server on a workgroup. My biggest confusion is the FQDN of my name server. By default, it's setup as "server.", where 'server' is the name of my Windows Server 2003 machine. My workgroup is named 'Home'. So I tried 'server.home', but this does not resolve. What DNS suffix do my other machines on the network use by default? Is my domain name on the network really my workgroup name? Another thing I want to avoid is configuring a DNS Suffix for every single client machine on my network in their NIC properties for IPv4. I have a D-Link router, and if I do an "ipconfig /all" on my machine, I see that my DNS suffix is 'router', which is the name of my D-Link router. I try setting my DNS Server FQDN as 'server.router' and that doesn't work either, so I'm out of ideas.

Can't Get The Server Network Card To Connect?

Mar 26, 2013

I have a client using a Dell Poweredge SC440 server. About a month ago the system crashedfter some detailed checking I found it had burned some caps. on the motherboard. I replaced the motherboard & had to reinstall SBS 2003. Since doing this I can't get the server network card to connect. The machine does have 2 NIC's one for the server & one for the internet, neither of which will connect. I believe I have the IP address of both cards incorrect. Could someone tell me what the correct IP addresses (all of them) should be for a new install of SBS 2003? I know the IP address of the router & the service provider (AT&T), but these don't work. I do have a printout of the server when it was originally setup but it only give the server IP which is 192.168.2.1 I have put this address in the IP of the card but don't know what goes in the default gateway nor the perfered DNS

I also have a Belkin N+ router in AP mode and a dedicated AP for wireless around the home.I have a few options on how to configure the network adaptor for the VM Server. [code] On my host machine i have the two default VM Network adaptors for "Host only" and "NAT".Im not really sure on how the IPv4 should be configured on these adaptors in order than the VM server is on the same network as my physical machine without conflicting IP's. If i leave it default the VM server gets a default IP of 192.168.13.138.

I get error code 0x80070035.When I disable my AVG firewall, I'm able to connect perfectly. So, I'm guessing I have to create some type of rule for my firewall, but I have NO idea where to get the info with which to do so. Servers :: Access Web Server On Private Network

Jun 14, 2012

I have a VPN with a number of servers where we are doing some software development. We have a TFS, Web, App and SQL Server etc.. inside a private LAN which is accessible via VPN. Nothing inside the private network can access outbound. However, I would like to open the Web Server on the private LAN to be able to be accessed via http(s).As we develop the software I want to access the site from the internet. It's a fairly simple setup.DSL > Modem > Home Lan. On the Home Lan I have a Server (2 ethernets) connected to the modem router and the other card to a hub. This server acts as the VPN server, DHCP etc.. for the Private LAN.The web server I want to be able to access from outside is the one inside the private network. Any recommendations?fyi, I'm not a networking guy, I hacked my way through setting up the private network through a number of great YouTube videos, that saved me a lot of time.

Unable To Link PC To Server On Another Part Of Network

May 26, 2011

I am having linking a computer to our SBS server. The computer in question is set in a warehouse on our site. We have a leased internet connection which is used on a number of different offices. The sbs-server has an IP address of 192.168.50.254 with a gateway Ip address of 192.168.50.1. The firewall on this network has an external IP of 10.50.0.37 with a gateway of 10.50.0.254 and this links to the leased line equipment. The external IP address for this network is 62.7.70.237. The PC in the warehouse has an IP address of 192.168.0.2 attached via a router to the leased line. The routers Ip address is 192.168.0.1, the external IP address is 10.50.0.55 and a gateway of 10.50.0.254. This links to the leased line and seems to have an external Ip address of 62.7.70.238. My issue is that I want the PC in the warehouse to be able to connect in some way to the SBS-Server. I cannot seem to access it via the external IP or the gateway (10.50.0.37).

Home Network :: Connect To Application On Server?

Feb 11, 2011

How do you access an application that is in the server? Like what extra steps you gotta make? Are they software related or do I have to do some configuration on the router or switch? Heres a little example:

Assume you have a group of computer connecter to a switch, this switch is connected to a router which has the connection to your ISP. On the router, you also have connected a server farm for your network and all the apps are stored there, say MS Word, Excel and such. Now, you have your network running, every ping comes out successful, so you know you did that part right, so the next part is to get the host use the MS Word or any other app in that server. How do you do that? Is there something that need to be configured on router/switch or is it with a software on your host? If its a software, whats the name of it and how you make it work?
