View 9 RepliesThe problematic PC is AMD triple core, with ASUS M3N78 motherboard and xp professional. PC should connect to internet through the router, TP-Link TL WR340GD, along with 3 other PCs which are all working fine. Basically, the PC caught a virus and I performed system restore. After that, the PC was working fine, except that there was no internet connection. I tried to reset winsock from command promp, but that did not sort the connection problem.I noticed that the yellow light on the back of the tower, for the ethernet cable connection, is yellow when the cable is not plugged in, however, as soon as I plug the ethernet cable in, the light disappears. The same cable is working fine when connected to other PCs so it does not seem to be the cable problem. The information in Network Connections says Limited or no connectivity. Full messages when prompted says: "You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. The problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer.To restart the connection and try to establish full connectivity, cliick Repair." and then, after clicking repair, it says:"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:Renewing your IP address.For assistance contact the person who manages your network."I also tried to release and renew IP address from command promp, but that did not work either.

I needed to do a full system restore because one of the windows system files got corrupted.After the restore, my internet connection was extremely slow. I restarted the computer and I got my normal fast speed but only for about 10 minutes and it is now very slow again (about 10 mins to load Google home page, for example).Internet speed was never an issue before the restore. Also I tried the dongle on my work laptop at home and it's fine.I'm using Windows XP. I've tried everything suggested at Slow Computer/Internet AFTER complete system restore but it is still slow.

I used System Restore to fix some kinks with it, and now the computer has no Internet access, and I have no idea how to get it back. I tried reversing the System Restore and turning it off, but that's not working. They said that the connection was fine, but that the computer could not read the modem.

I did a system restore on my xp desktop. Now I can't connect to the internet. My connection says connected but when I go to mozilla it says can't connect to server. All other computers work fine just my fausto which is connected via ethernet.

So I had a virus that was making it impossible for me to open a web browser without it starting a fake security scan and spamming my screen with multiple browsers. I had no other choice but to do a system restore since I had this problem in the past and a system restore fixed my computer. But, after the system restore, I can connect to the network using a wireless, but when I try to open any browser(firefox/internet explorer) it says internet explorer cannot display the webpage or server not found on firefox. I've tried resetting my internet settings, but no luck. I also don't have an internet security anymore since I was trying to install Kaspersky, but kept having trouble installing it properly.

The computer is starting AOK now and I have recaptured a lot of data by uninstall/install of programs where I'm told "Your Data Has Not Been Affected". However, when I reached the point of needing to reconnect to the internet VIA a wireless home LAN utilizing a D-Link DIR-615 (ver 3.21) Router with (1) computer connected thru a USB Adapter WUA-2340 (all working fine) I reinstalled a USB Adapter DWA-125 (ver A1) {Which had been working OK} and I get message "No Internet Connection Available" altho' all other indicators are "GO" The Device is working properly and net work indicators are all showing the D-Link USB Adapters on both my Compaq (with Win 7) and the HP (with XP) are working. I have worked on computers for years and never needed to do a System Recovery before and I have NEVER had any trouble getting on a network nor the internet before. REMEMBER, the HP W/XP CANNOT BE USED TO DOWN LOAD. It won't go on line! I can use my Compaq if we can make CD's, DVD's, or Flash Drive copies of anything needed for transport to the HP.

I tried in safe mode and it worked. So obviously something stopped it from working though I'm not sure. Anyway when I logged back into my account my wireless connection said I had no Internet access and the troubleshooter said the dns server isn't responding. I don't know how to fix it. I've tried updating the driver, uninstalling/reinstalling the adapter, enabling/disabling it, connecting/disconnecting from the connection, trying the connection in another account as well as safe mode and nothing has worked.

The replacement sup i received also doesnt have a CF.From the cisco website it says that the moment I insert the secondary sup into the chassis. it will automatically download the IOS and boot details from the primary to the secondary sup.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I just got a new Acer ultrabook and it was working fine until a few days ago. It keeps saying the DNS lookup failed. I've tried everything I can. I made sure it wasn't chrome, doesn't work in Firefox. Reset the modem, did a DNS dump, set the DNS to a 888thing. Utorrent is connecting to the internet fine and I can connect for random periods of time. If I do trouble shoot over and over eventually it starts working. Everyone else in my house gets internet even my sister with the same computer and model.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been having a few problems with my IBM T42 Laptop for a while now. I was originally running Windows XP on this system and about 12 months ago I installed Ubuntu 9 on it to mess around a bit with the OS and have a basic, non-Microsoft laptop in the house that I could use for browing the web and IM, etc... The laptop needed a clean install anway as Windows XP was running like a dog. Originally it was dual boot but once I got happy with Ubuntu I did a clean install and everything worked reasonably well. I had a few issues with the wireless LAN adapter and compatibilty, but sorted it out following a few forums (firware updates, driver updates) and everything was great. I upgraded to the Ubuntu 10.04 OS and then started having some issues. Essentially my browser would freeze randomly. Again, I visted the forums and had no joy in sorting out the problem. I reverted the OS back to Ubuntu 9 and the problem persisted. So I gave up on it totally around 6 months ago.
Last week I fired up the laptop again and decided I would use the IBM restore utility and the disks I created a couple of years ago to put on a clean install of Windows XP and see how things went. So far I have done all the Windows XP updates (SP3, etc...), I have been to the Lenovo website and updated all drivers, firmware, BIOS, etc... every little problem I have had has been sorted with a software or firmware update which I have successfully implemented. All niggles have been sorted bar one.The only problem I have left now is very odd. Everything works fine and at reasonable speed considering the age and specs of my system. When I connect via cable to my router/modem all network and internet services work fine. I have had no issues. But when I connect via wireless, intermittently my system will completely freeze - no errors, no logs - nothing. No sounds, just frozen screen. Hard reboot is the only thing that I can do to get back online.Further investigating the issue - the freezing occurs when I click on a link to download something. I can browse anything - I have tried videos (youtube) and have no problems at all - but if I click to download a file (software upgrade pack, pdf document, Qucktime player) the system freezes up and ONLY when connected wirelessly via the inbuilt Cisco Wireless LAN adapter. The header in the Import Template looks faulty, see attached. When exporting devices I also get the same header as attached. I share a modem and router with my building, and connect to the internet using an ethernet cable which plus right into the wall in my apartment. When I hover over the network/internet icon it tells me that I have a local connection only and can't get online. No changes were made to my computer between it working and not working - I have not installed any new software and the modem+router have not been changed.
When I try ipconfig/release is says it can't perform the operation while the media is disconnected. It also tells me that "an error occurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1: The system cannot find the fie specified".

So I can copy a file off the server and onto my local machine. I make my edits and then try to upload it to the server. I get locked out with the message: Error 0x80070021: The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file. I have tried shutting down my code editor, opening and closing the connection, tried different methods of reaching the server (Cyberduck and through Window's map network feature) to no avail. What can I do?
