We all share files off a common drive, either using it directly, or, copying it to our local machine to work on it then return it to the shared drive. I'm looking for a way to attach a notification to a file to let everyone know it has been "signed out" by someone, to avoid two people taking the same file at the same time.I looked at a simple program called Shediko Badges, which puts a badge over the icon, by right clickingon the file and choosing a badge from a menu, and undone just as easily, however, it can't be seen by everyone else on the network. This is the sort of thing I'm looking for, simple, cheap or free, that somehow marks a specific file without changing the name. It could be a colour change, an icon change... whatever, ideally with several options, for example where a different colour could be assigned to each person in the office, similar to the coloured labels on a Mac.

Jul 30, 2011I am having almost an Identical issue. It seems that I can do anything I want on the internet, but the second I open hotmail all the problems start. Issues occur on both FF and IE. As with you I am able to continue to get some information on sites that are currently open (for example I will get incoming IMs, although I cannot send replys, and my stream on facebook continues to update). Once this happens I cannot open any new webpage or use the wireless on ANY other device in my house (iphones and printer); wired devices seem to have no issues. I have done everything as far as resetting, updating firmware etc to my router with no luck. I have a netgear dual band router, computers with Windows 7 64bit. It seems that accessing Hotmail on the iphones does not trigger the same issue...

Mar 26, 2013I am in the process of switching firewalls. Currently I have a Sonic Firewall inplace. I have been tasked to switch the firewall out with a cisco asa firewall 5510. The sonic firewall currently allows email traffic, web traffic, and dns traffic. When I use the current config below on the asa I am unable to receive email from the outside network. I can send and browse websites but I cannot receive email.

Nov 28, 2011I have a issue that i am at a loss as how to solve it. I have an ASA 5505 as my firewall. I have users from other companies who visit from time to time and are unable to use their outlook email to send messages. They can however receive messages without a problem. I also have a situation where users who use windows live to access gmail are unable to send messages.
I have narrowed it down to the fact that these uses are using ssl/tls to send the mails. I did some research and found out about the inspect esmtp setting in the ASA. I have disabled it and i still have to problem. I have also removed all outbound deny statements and still no luck.
Of note is that i can send emails without attachments. They take a long time to go out ( from minutes to hours) but eventually they do. Emails with attachments of even 10k do not go at all.
I was running image 8.2.3 and i downgraded to 8.0.5...still did not work...i upgraded to 8.4.3...still did not work. I am now back at 8.2.3.
My Firewall config is attached. I am at my wits end as to what else to try. The company has not renewed support for the device so i am on my own here!
WRT54GL Unable To Work From Home Without VPN From Disconnecting / Reconnecting
Sep 4, 2012I've been otherwise very happy with my Linksys WRT54GL but have not been able to work from home without my work VPN from disconnecting/reconnecting multiple times throughout the day.
The IT guy said that a lot of people have issues with the older Linksys routers, and recommended I get something more modern. Assuming that is correct, what would be a good upgrade for me? I really don't want to spend too much time setting up the new router, but would love QoS if it comes out of the box. I have about 4 wired connections and about 6-8 wireless connections, on a 20MBit connection.

Aug 8, 2012I have a question about NAT behavior on FWSM 4.0. The problem is email server (Company A) cannot connect to email gateway (Company B) on the outside network and it randomly happen. I got this error from server guy "Detail: xlate has blocked the connection between A’s mail gateway and B’s mail gateway". It work fine again after clear xlate on firewall. [code]
1. How FWSM create xlate table like that? I mean it look like NAT0 for 158.137.21.26 but it doesn't has any nat rule for 158.137.21.26 on firewall.
2. What does it mean "connections 24" at the first of line? In the normal time, I only see the connections is 0 like the second line of xlate
3. After clear xlate global 158.137.21.26, the first line of xlate table is gone then email server can connect each other. Does is a bug on FWSM? or This is a normal NAT behavior of FWSM.

And I've folder containing files in one of the servers which I can access and proceed my daily downloading and uploading activity.Due to Virus I've formatted some of the client computers and re-installed everything. Now the problem is I can get Ping Command request successfully but can't access that folder from the clients instead it's been asking for username and password. Also, that username and password is not working even if used it.

Jan 12, 2013My DIR-825 is not in an ideal spot so I am thinking of getting an extension cable for the antenna (probably for both), drilling a little hole in a wall and mounting the antenna in a more central location. It really is just on the other side of a wall, maybe 5 feet total for distance, but in an open area where the signal should reach more of the house.
Can I run a cable and attach the antennas five feet away from the device itself? Is there anything I should look for in an extension cable?

May 22, 2012I am struggling since many weeks for an issue in my Wireless infrastructure.
I have an LAP (1242AG) in one B site that I would like to attach (in H-REAP mode) to the WLC of site A(5508 v6.0.199.4). The topology is as follows:
MPLS - Site A - MAN - Site B.
When Site A is fully connected, all is fine, my AP of site B can successfully join the WLC of site A.
However, when the WAN interface of the router of site A is disconnected, the AP cannot associate successfully to the WLC. For us, it does not make any sense during that time, the AP of site B can successfully ping the WLC of site A and the traceroutes show the exact same path.
I took some debug on the AP and the WLC while the AP's was trying to associate to the WLC (when the WAN link of Site A was disconnected) and also when the AP could successfuly join the WLC when the WAN link of site A was reconnected.

Oct 21, 2011I have between 8 and 10 computers on my home LAN. They are split between the default workgroup name 'WORKGROUP' and the name I have assigned to my home LAN.There is a mixture of Win XP, Win 7 32 & 64 and various levels of Ubuntu.
After 6 long days of trying I have made not one step forward in allowing file/printer sharing.The Windows machines are all running Comodo Internet Security, on one of which I have created my idea of a set of rules to allow file/print sharing.The Windows XP machine, with a user created set of firewall rules,can see no computers on the network (using My Network Places), aside from itself and the shares created on it.It cannot see the computers which are not in the workgroup.
The most common error message this computer generates is 'network path not found'. A win 7 32 bit computer, in the workgroup, can see all other computers that are in the workgroup, including itself, twice.It cannot access any shares on the Linux computers. It is able to access shares on the Windows XP computer.ufw Firewall is installed and enabled on one Linux machine and has a vaguely similar set of file/print sharing rules.That machine can see nothing at the Network place.A couple of hours ago it could see the machines that are NOT in my workgroup but could not see the machines that are!
Another linux computer can see the two workgroups (named and default) within the windows network, but cannot browse either workgroup. The most common error message from sharing attempts with the Linux machines is 'unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server'.Right now I am reduced to transferring USB sticks between adjacent computers....
PK5000 - Unable To Set Up File Sharing Between Wired PC And Wireless Laptop
Jan 29, 2011After reading posts in this forum and others, and reviewing MSFT tech docs, I'm still not able to establish file sharing between the wired PC and the wireless-connected laptop. Maybe I'm working under some stupid assumptions. I am able to ping each computer by their IP address - I can ping the laptop from the desktop, and vice versa. The desktop shows the Basecomputer under network places, but on the laptop, nothing at all shows up under network places. Laptop missing something?
The details:
a) Connecting to internet via DSL, Qwest ISP, Actiontec PK5000 Advanced Networking Network Router. Advanced Networking router, to me, means that home networking shouldn't require any other hardware. Stupid assumption?
b) Desktop PC is connected to the modem/router via ethernet cable
c) Laptop is connected to the modem/router via wireless, (Dell Wireless WLAN 1350 WLAN Mini PCI Card). Assocation tab of the wireless properties gives the network authentication/data encryption types as Open/WEP.
d) Some settings of the modem, viewed via the browser (192.168.0.x)
- Wireless security type: WPA
- MAC authentication Enabled
- Firewall security level: Off (NAT only)
e) Desktop PC is Windows XP Home Edition, SP 3
f) Laptop is Windows XP Professional Version 2002, SP3
g) Both are running Windows Firewall; File and Printer Sharing is checked for both, under the Exceptions tabl
h) I ran the Network setup wizard for both, using same Workgroup name, called HOME. Desktop is called BASECOMPUTER, and Laptop is called LAPTOP. No errors in the setup. On the desktop PC, under Windows Explorer, Network Places -> Entire Network, I can see a 'Home' network under a Microsoft Windows Network icon, with the Basecomputer listed. However, LAPTOP is not listed. This is after a couple of restarts.

Jul 26, 2011I am working on a Drupal site which is on a virtual server (the way it's been explained to me). I've been told I need to work with it through webdev. So I can copy a file off the server and onto my local machine. I make my edits and then try to upload it to the server. I get locked out with the message: Error 0x80070021: The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file. I have tried shutting down my code editor, opening and closing the connection, tried different methods of reaching the server (Cyberduck and through Window's map network feature) to no avail. What can I do?
