View 3 RepliesI have an Avaya IP office setup on a 1.5 mb T1 PRI at location 1. My second location is going to run IP phones over 15mb/1mb DSL connection. All calls will generate from the IP office at location 1. I will have 6-8 IP phones at location 2.I assume i need a VPN setup between the two office for the IP phones to work. I've been looking for the best VPN solution and it appears for a budget the Netgear FVS318 or FVS338 is the way to go. If I go that route do I just need a FVS338 or FVS318 at both locations?

I am trying to set up a VPN the same way I used to do it with the netgear one but seems like something is being missed upI am trying to connect the VPN to a SonicWall 100 device using gateway to gateway, 3DES/MD5, agresive mode and IKE with preshared key. I already have the local id, remote ID and subnet configured in the SonicWall device as well as the remote IP address. I used to enter these information in the IKE and VPN configuration screens in the Netgear FVS338 we used to work with. I also have the PreShared Key code I entered in the configuration.

The modem lights up, the internet light flashes then goes green and the connection to the PC is lit. My PC wont see the modem - when I type 192.168.0.1 it cannot access the Netgear setup page. However several days passed and I started to notice the speed was decreasing; because I have HughesNet (I hate it) I thought this was the ISP's fault and called them and they said my speed had not gone down. During the day, the signal is fine and is at full bars and the speeds are OK. During the evening/night hours the connection becomes faulty and the laptop will disconnect from the network altogether. If I plug the ethernet cable directly into the router, the speed is OK also. I have taken the security off the connection to see if it will make any difference; it doesn't. I don't know if I need to buy a new router or what. I know my way around computers and routers (not entirely though) and I cannot figure it out. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using a second-hand PC for the past year. It has had persistent issues connecting to my WiFi. Other computers in the house connect without difficulty.At first I thought the dongle was responsible, so I replaced it with a more expensive one -- Netgear WNA1100. Symptoms vary, but it typically disconnects without warning, sometimes followed by announcing that the USB device is not recognised. Sometimes this can be solved by removing the dongle and inserting it in a different port, though the port itself does not seem to matter. At other times, I've had to uninstall and reinstall the driver software. Exasperating, obviously.
It is crashing my machine.Last week my hard disk died (or so the man in the computer shop told me). Because I only need this machine for my PhD work, I chose to replace the hard disk with one that was left over from an upgrade (cheaper and theoretically adequate -- I have a 12-month warranty for it). All the other hardware was checked before leaving the shop, XP reinstalled etc.Yesterday I got the computer back and started reinstalling various software. But the wifi stopped working, so I reinstalled again, and during the process my machine 'stopped' -- this was a blue-screen event and the next restart failed.the machine started again today, and connected to my network. But then the machine crashed again.
So far I have:
-- run an antivirus check (nothing)
-- updated the driver (once I got online)
-- run a disc check (using the 'Automatically fix file system errors' on C:/ drive, this involved a restart)
-- began running a full system check ('Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors') but the last crash happened during phase 4
-- the Microsoft error reports have produced nothing
So I'm at a loss. There seems to be no point reinstalling any more software till this is sorted.[Obviously I will be taking it back to the shop if I can't resolve myself since there's also a new issue with the system audio.]Here's data sent with the error report from the first crash:

This is ADSL and works perfectly.I have added a Belkin F5Z0102 UK G Wireless ADSL Modem Router as a wireless range extender.It is connected to the Netgear via homeplug and works fine for connecting to the internet on all my gadgetry (ie internet radio, netbooks and mobile phone) via wireless and wired.My problem is when the internet radio and music player on my phone try to connect to the NAS, connected via ethernet cable to the Netgear router.I can connect to the NAS via it's IP address directly but it will not be recognised by the software on the radio or phone.However,if I connect to the Netgear router (first), it recognises it straight away.
To allow access, do I need to change the settings of the router to point to the other router in any particular way?I have specified the second router as 192.168.0.2 and this points back to the Netgear router in the settings. The SSID is different to the first because if I put it as the same, the router gets confused and I lose all connectivity. I have also disabled the DHCP settings ont he second router. Forgot to mention that it is set up as a 1483 Bridge.
