View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Vaio running Windows 7 Home Premium. Yesterday I accessed the Internet at the office over a Cat5 cable. Last night I accessed the Internet at home via my USB Internet dongle (actually an O2 mobile phone). Today neither works. I have also tried to connect to the Internet via Wireless and that does not work either.Needless to say my desktop (using the same Cat5 cable) works. My mobile phone can access the Internet on it own. And others can get the wireless to work.My Vaio can connect to all three; however, all three say "No Internet access".I changed nothing between last night and this morning. I have scanned through the list of Windows Updates and nothing has been downloaded in the past week. I have turned off my firewalls (in both McAfee and Symantec Endpoint Protection). I have run the three NETSH reset commands with Administrator privileges. I have rebooted my machine numerous times. Nothing works.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am installing a network in my small business and was given a spool of Cat5 cable to run wires... I know the length in feet of cable that I was given, but I was wondering if there is some kind of markers on the cable to tell me how much is left... I will be charged for it by foot after I'm done, and I want to know how much I've used. Do I have to just use a measuring tape? Seems unnecessarily complicated... I've checked the wire but can't see any marker of the length remaining.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of making a security system for my house (and possibly selling and setting up for others) based off usb 1080p webcams. I read online the max length of a usb cable is 5m before you need a hub to act like a repeater. Could I simply buy a cat6 (or 7) cable, splice the usb into it, and then unsplice at the computer as a workaround?
View 8 Replies View RelatedHave had ADSL installed through a router, connected the wireless router and it works fine Have since connected the original router via -120mtrs of CAT5 cable to extend to the house. Connection through LAN is fine into desktop however the minute we try to connect an additional wireless router the connection fails. We have even put the LAN from the second Wireless into the desktop and there is no connectivity. We have had a technician come to sort the problem, they advise that they have no explanation as to why the LAN works from the distance but the wireless does not. They have suggested that we need to cut the CAT5 half way and put an antenna up to connect the two routers.

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust about to run about 30 metres of Ethernet cable underground from one building to another. I know there's quite a few forums like this which suggest to go for cat5 mostly for the price, not sure when these were advised but cat6 doesn't seem to be too much more now...
So just wondering if it will be worth going for cat6 for a future reference if you will, ideally if products ever advance to support it. Just that I don't fancy digging up the cable in a year or so.
Of course I'd rather go for cat5e but wouldn't mind adding a bit to the budget if it's worth it?
Also does anyone know if it's any more difficult to fit the connecters to cat6e? Are they just the same as rj45?
I just bought and received a Cat6 200ft Ethernet cable from Amazon, linkIt is going from a router to my PC and is not working. My old Ethernet cable works just fine from said router to PC. I do not know why this one is not working. I tested the cable out on my laptop and it works fine for that. I am not sure what info to post about my PC, but I am using an Asrock z68 Extreme3 Gen3 motherboard as my lan connector.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco Linksys WAG120N running with the firmware version 1.00.12, and it's working a quite fine.During some tests with the nmap command under Linux, I noticed that beyond the ports 80 and 433, another opened port 32764 shows up running an unknown service. This unknown service keeps running after scanning for ports between 1-65535 using nmap in stealth mode. But after querying the modem for operating system fingerprint using nmap but not in stealth mode, this port closes and the service disappears.
By using a browser to access 192.168.1.1:32764, a 12 byte "<random_prefix>.exe" file is download, and its's recognized as a text file. The file contains a "MMcSÿÿÿÿ" string, and the bytes in hexadecimal are "4d 4d 63 53 ff ff ff ff 00 00 00 00".And also, something strange happens after this unknown service goes down: Accessing the modem setup via browser, the settings displayed are different than I commonly use. the encapsulation is set to "Bridged Mode Only" instead the "RFC 2516 PPPoE", and into the Status Tab the Current Time field says "Time Zone string Error". Still in the Status Tab, in the Internet Connection information the "Login Type" is a misspelled "UNKNOW", the interface says "Connected" to a well accessible Default Gateway., the same displayed into the Routing Table Entry. Th Applications & Gaming Tab is unaccessible. After power switching the modem off and on again, everything comes back to normal again.

I have cat 5 and get around 13Mbps, will cat 6 get me 16 or 17? or the router can't handle it?.Also another question is how can I make the gain on the dish higher?
