I recently installed a very basic version of XP on my old laptop (Gateway MT3707).After hours of searching for the correct drivers, I found them, and installed them. After installing the correct drivers for wireless internet I was able to pull up the list and find my network on it.When double clicking on our wireless network it asks for a network key (also called WEP key or WPA key). Now we have a password for our network, but after an exhausting amount of tries that won't work. I not sure if that is what its looking for. In our apartment we run mac OSX, windows vista, etc., but usually the password for the network is satisfactory. I have never ran into this problem.I hate to be a noob, but I don't know where to go from here.

My only options for internet have been 56k or wireless USB modems. That is, until recently. We switched from the wireless USB modems to a wireless hotspot from US Cellular (Samsung SCH-LC11). However, ever since making the switch I've had problems accessing certain websites both on our PC and on my Macbook Pro. I can't connect to Invision Free (or any of its user-created forums) or [URL]. It happens with other, random sites as well. I tried manually changing DNS settings to Google's and another one (don't recall which) and it did allow me to access the site. However, once there, every other site started moving slowly and eventually the ones in question timed out as well.

Is it possible to connect two distant sites e.g. 30 miles wirelessly? Will there be any issues with Line of sight and interference? Will it be a better solution compared to that of wired counterpart?

I am about to deploy a load of Aironet LWAPs into my organization. I've configured the WLC 2504 and have a couple of the APs working at our main site. I just needed to plug them in, and they worked perfectly, straight out the box. But I just want to know the following:
1 - will the same apply if I connect an AP at a remote site? Remote sites are on different subnets and connected via IPSEC. Will the remote APs just find the WLC?
2 - is there anything I need to set up especially on the WLC in order to make this work?
3 - what happens if the IPSEC connection drops?

Having some serious problems on the networking front here at home. I have 3 PC's and 2 Xbox's that run constantly. Our Internet bandwidth is Insight's 50.0 which is 50Mb download speed 5Mb upload speed. The problem we're having is this. Ever since we upgraded from dual 20Mb lines on a Cisco RV042 to a 50Mb on a DIR-655 we've been having latency issues. I have everything turned off in the router. It's basically there to give out IP numbers and thats it. All security is handled from the PC's themselves. Bandwidth tests are fine, I sustain download speeds above 7MB/s using download managers. But pings are terrible. Xbox live is terrible, PC online gaming is terrible. Pingtest.com is terrible. Only when behind routers. I've tried it behind 3 seperate routers. The DIR-655, the Belkin f5d8236 that insight provided me, and the cisco rv042 originally used for dual wan routing. all of which are met with serious failure.
If I plug directly in to the modem pings are fine. Add a router and pings go to shit.

Unable to connect to unsecured wireless sites using a USB Realtec high gain antenna on a Toshiba laptop running Win7 Pro, 64 bit. Network troubleshooter resets adapter but states it cannot correct the problem. Wireless adapter settings set to High Performance. Latest Realtec drivers have been downloaded and installed. Light on front of the laptop shows that the wireless function is running. Turned the function off, rebooted and then turned it back on. Same result when Toshiba is operating off 110v so power shouldn't be the problem.

I could not log into any of the 4 FTP sites that I normally update without immediately getting disconnected. The message I am getting from the servers is "Port command failed, error loading directory - disconnected". To save some time and posts, here are the facts....1.) It is definately not my DSL modem. When I connect directly with the modem, without a router, I can connect to FTP fine2.) I have already done a /flushdns in IPconfig.3.) I have already done the typical power off/power on/reboot procedure numerous times.4.) I have already tried PASV mode, and tried turning PASV mode off as well.5.) My login information is correct, and I have problems on multiple sites.6.) This problem has been reported before by other users of WRT54G, but the other forums I see have no solution to the problem.7.) I have already tried using other PC's and different FTP clients on my home network. No matter which PC or laptop I use behind the router firewall, I can't maintain FTP connection. 8.) I have never had to open ports to be able to connect to FTP, since I am the one doing the request. I did also try opening ports 20 and 21. 9.) XP firewall is disabled. 10.) I have tried both ethernet ports on my PC. But then again, that is irrelevant because none of my other PC's which connect wirelessly, can connect either.

My own sites were down & I can't view them on my computer now. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me with router WRT54G.Every time there's a problem with my hosting company & my sites go down, my router blocks them once the sites are back up & running. When I plug directly into the modem I can access them, but then I can't use my phone, etc.I've recycled & I keep trying to find how you save your settings on your router so I can do a cold reboot, but I can't find the instructions anywhere. Why does it keep doing this & how to save the settings & restore them.

I have been asked to setup wireless and we have purchased WLC 5508 and 1142 APs.We have several remote sites and a centralized WLC. The requirement are to have a common SSID (Corporate) advertised across all the remote sites and have that SSID locally switched, and have another two SSID Guest and Mobile tunneled back to the central site (WLC).I want all the wireless (Corporate) clients to use the same subnet as the wired clients at each remote site, the IP assigment will be done by a DHCP server at the central site. The Guest and Mobile users will use a common subnet each across all the site and this will also be handled by the DHCP server at the central site.
I have enabled H-REAP with Centralized Authentication and Local switching but I'm not sure about the second part which is to have a common SSID (Corporate) across the remote sites and localy switched whilst having the other two SSIDs tunneled back to the WLC. Cisco TAC told me to configure dynamic interfaces for each of the remote site but then he said I still wouldn't be able to switch the Corporate traffic localy if I use a different subnet to the wired subnet for the wireless clients.

Ever since I got the WRT310N router, it's had issues connecting to secure websites such as [URL]. I use Google Chrome, and maybe 30-40% of the time when I try to go on the websites, Chrome gives me a warning that it is being redirected to a phishing site. I have tried this with other browsers too to the same effect. My router is secure. I have installed it in different locations as well (once in residence, once at home, to the same effect).

I recently purchased an E-2500, but notice that in parental controls I can only block 6 or 8 websites. In my WRT54GS I could just create additional rules and they would work. But in this device I am limited on the sites that can be blocked per device. How I can block additional sites?

I just upgraded my old WRT54G to a E4200v2 with firmware 2.0.36.126507. I installed it using the Cisco Connect CD. At first it seemed OK, but then I noted that I cannot open (or takes forever) many websites, in particular those requiring Adobe Flash Player to view. In addition, it appears that access IPv6 Internet or sites is impossible, even though IPv6 is enabled in the GUI. Is there anything I am missing in the configuration/set up of the router?

I am on a 200GB/month 100mbit cable plan with Telstra, and we have a number of sites/servers which we can download from which do not count towards our monthly download limit. Normally there would be 3-4GB of usage per day which was 'unmetered' but since upgrading to the E4200 router, everything that should be 'unmetered' is not being recognised and is being counted towards my monthly download limit - in other words, all traffic through the router is counted as chargable downloads.
Im not sure how it all works, but the E4200 router is definitely blocking something out... if i plug directly into the modem or use my previous router (WRT160N) everything works perfectly.

We are in the process of evaluating Cisco wireless controllers and AP. We have 3602 APs and 2504 controllers right now. We have multiple branch offices connected to the main office through layer 3 and they all have different vtp domains and vlans. I am trying to deploy APs at the branch offices and connect them back to the controller and the central site. I created a sub interface and ssid with one of the vlans at the branch office on the controller and was able to get the AP to join the controller through DNS. However, a client at the branch office connected to the AP was unable to ping anything at the branch and central sites. Any documentations on how to deploy such a setup where the controller is at the central site and AP at the branch office going through multiple routers in between?

I want to block sites like facebook during my workday but allow the rest of the internet.
The attached settings block facebook as desired during the filter times but after 6:30pm the filter expires and the entire internet is blocked (not just facebook). All of my browsers act as if they are hanging and won't load pages until I disable the filter.
I've also tried creating two different filters (one at a time). The first allowed full internet access all the time and the second allowed access the opposite times of the work filter. But to no avail.

I'm using parental controls to block all devices in the house from using tumblr. I cannot do this at a device by device level as it is being used on iphones/androids, laptops and desktops.Unfortunately, the way that tumblr works is that it use many URLs for the different pages people set up so it is not just a case of blocking url... - so I'm struggling to work out if I can do this via URL blocking on the router settings. How to do this at router level.

Not too much networking savvy - but here goes. Want to use router as local lan - no wireless. When router is connected to laptop via RJ45 I loose my ability to connect to sites via browser. IPconfig shows wireless adapter at 192.168.1.3. When router is attached it's ip is 192.168.1.1. Disabled the wireless in the settings but no dice. When the router was used with DSL it was set at PPPoE but now that I'm just using it locally not sure whether it should be DHCP or Static or other.
