View 3 RepliesI'm having a problem viewing devices on my home network. To better explain I created this diagram of my Home Network below.I have a Cisco VPN Router and connected to that I have a Netgear WRN 1000v2 Router & Linksys WRT54G2v1 Router. I used to have my home network connected to only one router and I was able to see and connected to other devices. Now my networks are separated, I think it has something to do with subnet masking and the IP addresses on the routers.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there an easy way to detect NAT devices - specifically home wireless routers like those from NetGear or D-Link or Linksys - on my network? I've shut down the ones that are easy to find by looking at the hostnames on the DHCP server, walking around with my phone and capturing the MAC address of the AP then finding a matching MAC address one number higher or lower. But there are still more out there evading me and I need to shut them down.I've read about a method using SFlow/Netflow, but my old Cisco 3750 and 2950 switches don't support that. I've read about a plugin for a Linux based firewall, but I use a Cisco ASA.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently updated my network with the following:
RVS 4000 v1.3.2.0 - Linksys by Cisco version
SG200-26
AP541N [WAP]
All devices have the latest version of firmware.Users only connect laptops via wireless, they are a mix of MAC and Windows users, devices such as printers and network storage are all wired connections. The RVS 4000 would drop the internal Lan after several hours or sometimes days, there would be no reason to the periodicity it would retain and then drop the LAN. By dropping the Lan I mean:
Internet Access would cease, devices such as laptops would lose their wireless connection, a laptop requesting an IP address would be ignored. Effectively we were down.Connecting a laptop to the network via a cable connection would eventually get an IP address but all other wired devices such as the NAS Storage and printers would be unreachable and require powering off and on to get an IP.
A reboot of the RVS 4000 by powering off the router would have to happen to restore the LAN quickly. I followed advice on the Internet and this forum by upgrading the firmware and resetting to factory defaults and then reloading the configuration. The only change that seemed to make any sort of differnece was connecting the AP541N directly to the RVS 4000 rather than the SG200-26. Throughput increased and the period between LAN drops extended but the RVS 4000 would ciontinue dropping the LAN eventually.
When it dropped the LAN during a work day, that was it!I read a lot of negative feedback on the version of RVS 4000 firmware and as the version 2.0 will not install I purchased the Cisco version of the RVS 4000 v 2.0.0.3.
The new RVS 4000 also drops the LAN! The period between drops is much longer, but it still drops the Lan.Ventilation is good and it is sitting on its edge using the platsic feet that come in the package. The AP541N is still directly connected to the RVS 4000 rather than the SG200-26.how to fix the RVS 4000 or an alternative... I would like to stay with Cisco, an alternative, if the RVS 4000 is unfixable should have a browser based admin facility!

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a RV120W used to provide VPN access to several industrial devices. Some of these devices are assigned IP address via DHCP in the router. One cannot do DHCP, so it has a self-determined static IP.
The VPN works well for all the devices that are assigned IP's. However, it does not allow me to connect to the device that has a static IP. I can connect to it fine when I am on the LAN or WLAN, but cannot ping it via the VPN.
On the System Summary screen in the Port Statistics table when you click on one of the Connected links the pop open window does not show the IP address of the connected device when using IPv4. Where can I find this?
If the devices are using static IP addresses and not getting them from the DHCP server they do not show in the Client Table under DHCP Status.
If they are know MAC addreses because they have been assigned to static IPs on the DHCP setup screen they will not show up in the Uknown MAC Addresses pop up window.
I am having issue with my network as my router won't resolve most of the hostname of the network, I have 30 devices on my network, and only 4 names are displayed on the available local host. It makes it very difficult to identify the devices on the network.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAlthough I have no problem with backup/restore in ISA550 when I do it in the same device, I do have problems when restoring in one unit the backup of another unit, i.e. when cloning devices in order to avoid having to configure every device from scratch. Lets call A the master device and B and C the devices I try to clone (to save most of the configuration) to modify them later. I get two different situations here, but none of them works:
Situation 1.B reads without complaining the backup from A and gets the same configurations settings than A, but once modified appropriately to stablish a VPN Site-to-Site tunnel with A, ther is no way to make it work. Furthermore, this unit cannot be configured to VPN with A, even using the Site-to-Site wizzard (which resets all VPN settings).
Situation 2.C complaints when reading the backup from A and does not read it. However, this unit can be configured by hand using the wizzard and the VPN works fine.
So, I suspect that something in the backup identifies the unit in such way that VPN gets in troubles. What it does work is doing a FULL RESET of the unit B and then configure it manually.
I have reported the issue but the Cisco agent closed it simply saying that this cannot be done. I have serious dificulties believing that in you have N devices you have to do N configurations from scratch. I am aware that perhaps some codes must be removed before doing a backup, or that should be something like an "anonymous backup" for such objective, but I cannot accept that it is impossible to do.

It is great with our ten different devices (possibly even a dozen?), but it continues to disconnect a Kindle Fire - that used to connect with no problem - evidently upon acquisition of a newer Kindle Fire. As long as MAC Filtering is not enabled, then there shouldn't be an issue of a "white list" - which the Kindle manual suggests as a solution ("If ... filtering is enabled, ensure your Kindle's MAC address is added to your router's white list in your network settings"). (I did figure out how to go to the network address, but was mostly flumoxed from there)

View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently my home network is being switched via TrendNet TEGs80G unmanaged gig switches. I have been using them for about a year now with no issues. As my home network becomes more advanced, I recently just added a Cisco ASA5505, I am thinking about swapping those unmanaged devices, 4 of them, to managed. I was looking at the Cisco SG300-10 for upstairs, and a 16 port variant for my main core. These devices do not support full Cisco IOS cli, but they are manageable with a rich feature set nonetheless. My question is, should I swap the unmanaged devices with the more expensive Cisco devices, or just keep what works and save the money until I really need to spend it. As previously stated, my home LAN works just fine as it is, however my WiFi, NTV550s, server and workstations are all on the same network. Probably not the most secure but it is what it is without VLAN support.
