How To See All Devices On LAN

Mar 14, 2012

I would really like to know how to see all the devices that are connected to a specific router. I know in windows, command prompt, you say: net view, and it will display all the pc's connected to the router/in the LAN, but it DOES NOT SHOW the smartphones connected to that same router. I have 3 laptops connected via WiFi, I can see them, but I cannot see the 4 smartphones I have that is also connected to the LAN. How can I see them as well?

I know that they have IPv6 addresses assigned to them, is that the problem(that they do not have IPv4 adressess?)

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Can See None Of Devices Attached To Power-line Devices

Aug 15, 2011

I have installed my new E4200 and it works beautifully.  I have several wirelss adapters and a few wired connections through powerline adapters. I also have a second VPN router attached to the 4200.I can see the wireless connected devices with the associated IP addresses.  If I plug a laptop directly into the Cisco, I can of course see it.However,  I can see none of the devices attatched to the powerline devices?  I have a securty cam connected via the powerline and want to know the IP address.  I checked with cisco technical support via chat and they said it is impossible.  I have used 2 previous routers with the same configuration and can see all devices.

TEGs80G - Swap Unmanaged Devices With More Expensive Cisco Devices?

Jun 1, 2012

Currently my home network is being switched via TrendNet TEGs80G unmanaged gig switches. I have been using them for about a year now with no issues. As my home network becomes more advanced, I recently just added a Cisco ASA5505, I am thinking about swapping those unmanaged devices, 4 of them, to managed. I was looking at the Cisco SG300-10 for upstairs, and a 16 port variant for my main core. These devices do not support full Cisco IOS cli, but they are manageable with a rich feature set nonetheless. My question is, should I swap the unmanaged devices with the more expensive Cisco devices, or just keep what works and save the money until I really need to spend it. As previously stated, my home LAN works just fine as it is, however my WiFi, NTV550s, server and workstations are all on the same network. Probably not the most secure but it is what it is without VLAN support.

Wireless Devices Can't Connect To Wired Devices?

Oct 11, 2012

All of a sudden my laptop, android phone and blu ray player (all wireless devices) can't communicate with my wired devices (marantz receiver and samsung tv). Everything still connects to the internet independently but i can't for instance play music from my wireless laptop to my wired marantz receiver. I had no trouble with this last week and didn't change anything (that I'm aware of) I did get Verizon to switch out my router but it didn't solve anything. My wife's computer also cannot connect to wired devices. Lastly, if I connect my laptop with via ethernet cable it sees wired devices fine. I tried shutting off windows firewall but didn't work. I have no other firewall/virus software installed. I can ping to all devices (wired and wireless) from my laptop.

Multiple Devices With The Same IP?

I am in a manufacturing test scenario and need to connect multiple devices with the same IP address (identical hardware all with the same fixed IP) to one Windows 7 desktop for the purposes of testing.I have a 3Com SuperStack II Switch 1100 that I am using as my switch. This switch supports VLAN and I have set up a number of VLANs, 1 for each device, with the host machine residing in all of the VLANs. I need to connect to these devices via SSH, preferably all simultaneously.'m thinking this will work except I have no idea how to differentiate ssh traffic to/from any 1 of the VLANs to the host.

Backing Up The Data On NAS Devices?

I have several network shares in my home using two different NAS devices.I am looking for recommendations for backing up the data on these devices.I currently use CrashPlan for backing up my computers.I have 1 share (documents) that I would like to somehow get backed up to CrashPlan (I'm not specifically tied to CrashPlan, it's just what I'm using now). The rest of the shares I would like to just backup locally in the event of hard drive failure.I have tried having my iMac mount the documents share automatically and include that in the CrashPlan backup, but it seems unreliable.

Home Network With G And N Devices?

Aug 26, 2011

My home network currently consists of the following components...

BT Homehub 3 router - B/G/N
PC running Windows 7 and using a Edimax wireless pci adaptor - B/G/N
XBox 360 with live connection - N
Laptop with inbuilt wifi and no slots for another card except via USB - G
Various phones - G

Everything in the house is running at ~ 26-54 Mb/s at the moment and the two N devices have a very weak signal due to their distance from the router. Unfortunately, moving the router to somewhere that will benefit one device will have a detrimental effect on the other due to their locations. The router has the option to switch on 40mhz (mbit???) which, I gather, is also known as channel bonding and this should boost the range and speed of the N service but I also gather that doing this will stop all the G devices from connecting at all.I still have the Homehub 2 router that I was using before so I was wondering if there is any way I could make use of this (or anything else) to allow me to use all devices in the house at their fastest speeds.

How To Keep All Networked Devices Online

Aug 31, 2012

I have been using the same wireless setup in my home for over a year. We have a Belkin Surf wireless router and an Arris modem from Comcast, using cable internet from Comcast. In the house, we have 5 devices that are set up to automatically connect wirelessly: iPhone 4, an old iPod touch, a MacBook Pro, a Toshiba laptop, and a Brother printer. Until recently, there has never been a problem with connectivity.

Lately, certain devices have been losing connection. For example, last night my husband and I were both using our laptops with no problems. This morning, his is connected and my iPhone is connected, but my Mac is not (I get a timeout error and am not connected to the internet). Sometimes it's his laptop that drops the connection. Other times it's my son's iPod or my iPhone. It is never all of the devices at once (something is always connected), and each device always recognizes the network as existing yet cannot connect to it.

I have also tried to change the channel that the router is set to, but that has not seemed to solve anything. The firmware is up to date. We are password protected in an area with few neighbors, and there never are any unknown devices connected when I check the client list for the router.

Setting Does Not Allow To Use All Wireless Devices?

Jan 19, 2012

Ok my Routers Sercurity Settings are on WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK). But on this setting it does not allow me to use all my wireless devices. They appear with errors stating that i must change my sercurity settings to WEP. So i tried this, i first changed it to 128bit WEP and it connected to my other devices. But the router suddenly began automatically shutting off its wireless capabilities at frequent random intervals (the LED showing its function shutting off and all wireless internet sources). So i changed it back to my original settings and it fixed itself, but once again i could not access my devices. So i tried using the 64bit WEP option and once again it proved the same results as the 124bit WEP.

Two Devices Need Accessing From One External IP?

Mar 4, 2011

I have two devices in my office which both need to be accessible externally. One is an FTP server (Hermstedt Stingray), the other is a NAS drive (Lacie). I don't have a static IP so have instead configured an account with DYNDNS. My understanding is that by using this method, only one device will be ever be accessible because of the one single dynamic IP. Is this correct? Or is there a way of configuring something somewhere (DYNDNS, router etc) so that both my devices can be accessed externally.

Some Devices Cannot Connect To Wireless While Others Can?

Sep 26, 2012

During the summer we had three laptops and an iPod. Two of the laptops and the iPod were having trouble connecting to the Internet, but I thought that was because we had too many devices but I looked it up and most sites said that wasn't true.

Now we have two laptops and the iPod and there are still problems so I thought it was a modem issue. It's a Webstar DPC2100R2 and when the Up and Down lights go off our wireless has trouble but if I use cord which goes through a D-Link DIR-615, the Internet is fine. When the lights go out I usually turn off both devices and turn them back on after about a minute and that usually works. But then, the lights didn't come back on so I called my Cox, my provider and they did something that fixed for about a week then the two lights went out again. Yesterday I reset them again and my Acer Aspire connected and so did my iPod but my HP Pavilion couldn't so I reset it again. Now my HP and iPod work but my Acer doesn't even though I've reset it multiple times.

What's weird is that the HP never has any trouble connecting, even when the lights aren't on or when my iPod, Acer and my sister's Dell couldn't.

Two MDI-X Devices Using Only Straight Through Cables?

Aug 31, 2011

I purchased a D-Link switch that supports MDI-X so I should be able to use only straight through cables according to the manual. My Router (Wrt54gs) also supports MDI-X, yet when I plug a straight through cable from port 4 on router to port 1 on the switch -> then a straight through from port 2 on the switch to my computer, I don't get an IP address. If I connect a crossover cable from the router to port 1 on D link switch -> then straight through from port 2 to computer, it works just fine.I am going to purchase an extra crossover cable to use for this but I'm really curious as to why it wont work this way? DES-1105 is the model of the switch. "THE DES-1105 CAN BE CONNECTED TO ANOTHER SWITCH OR OTHER DEVICES (ROUTERS BRIDGES ETC) VIA A TWO-PAIR CATEGORY 3,4,5 UTP/STP STRAIGHT THROUGH OR CROSSOVER CABLE."

It looks like they mean that you could access the same encryption domain from any of the two Boxes in different cities. This is strange to me, since every time I have set up VPN before, each endpoint has their own encryption domains.I never seen two enpoints with the same encryption domain behind, so Im confused wether it might be a mistake on their part, or this is expected.
