How To Turn Off WPA On Verizon FIOS

Jan 11, 2011

I have Verizon FIOS. I am using their Actiontec router. I turned on WPA2. All is working well. I wanted to turn it off to diagnose a problem with one device. I can see no way to turn it off. To turn it on you click WPA2. you put in an 8 digit "password" etc and it works. There seems to be no way to turn it off. Am I overlooking something? I tried deleting the password. but it gives you an error and remindes you the password needs to be 8 characters.

Verizon FIOS Modem - Default Gateway Is Not Available?

For some reason, whenever I go home (I'm in college right now), my internet goes haywire. It'll connect for about an hour or so when I first load it up, but after that, it refuses to connect at all. If I restart my modem (verizon fios modem), then it'll connect for about 5 minutesIf I run the troubleshooter, sometimes it doesn't detect anything wrong with it, and other times, it says "the default gateway is not available"[CODE]

Adding Second Wifi Router To Verizon Fios Mi424wr

I have a MI424WR for my Verizon Fios connection. The router is located downstairs, and I don't get Wifi in my bedroom upstairs. Is it possible to connect another WIFI router by ethernet to the MI424WR? Is there anyway where I can do it without the two router's wifi signals fighting each other? Is there a specific kind of router I should be looking for?

M1424-WR - Setting Up Repeater With Verizon FiOS Router?

I am recommending that he get an old router (Linksys wrt54GL or E2000) that I can convert into a repeater with DDWRT firmware as a cheap solution, or with a purpose built Netgear or Linksys range extender repeater as a more $ solution.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Can't Set Up New E4200 With Verizon FIOS

Dec 13, 2012

So, I bought an E4200 today. I don't know if it's v1 or 2. The box doesn't say v2, so I'm assuming it's v1.

I'm trying to set it up and I have the most recent version of the Mac OS operating system (10.8 Mountain Lion), so the setup CD is not compatible. I'm trying to do a manual set up and it seems that step 1 is to go to 192.168.1.1, which is the same IP that my FIOS router uses, so I go straight there instead of to the E4200.

Has anyone else been able to make this thing work with Mountain Lion and FIOS router?

Cisco Routers :: Setting Up RV180 With Verizon FiOS?

Jun 7, 2012

Looking for setting up the RV180 behind the ActionTec MI424WR-GEN2.  At the same time I want to be able to VPN into the network and be able to access objects.

Ideal setup:
Verizon ActionTec modem is primary network (192.168.1.x)
RV180 is secondary network (192.168.2.x)
VPN to 192.168.2.x network from remote locations (client-to-gateway)

I've tried asking from Cisco Support and was given the "we don't suppor that configuration" line.  They want me to put it in front of the ActionTec FiOS modem/router in which case then Verizon will provide zero support for anything. Now, to add an extra twist, I do have STBs (Set-Top Boxes) connected to the Verizon FiOS modem/router but nothing special (i.e. no DVR or any stuff like that). How to get this thing up and running so that I can have remote folks VPN into the network?  We work with data that needs to remain encrypted during transmission, hence the VPN.I have forwarded ports 443 (TCP), 60443 (TCP), 500 (UDP) and 4500 (UDP) to the WAN IP of the RV180.  Network objects behind the RV180 cannot get past the router (it's in router, not gateway mode).  The RV180 can ping objects both on the WAN and LAN side, so it seems that the RV180 is the problem child.

6300 Verizon FIOS Change To Other Wireless Routers?

Jul 3, 2011

i am using verizon fios. It's pretty fast, in fact I just did a speedtest and here is the result. But I always want more. My laptop has Intel 6300, which supports up to 450Mb. But the Actiontec MI424WR only has 54Mb. It has nice features, but it uses MoCA and connects over coaxial cables, making it unnecessarily harder to use my own router. So I searched online and found tut about how to set the actiontec as a bridge and use your own router.

1) Wouldn't that lower the speed of the router of my choice? Say if I get a 450Mb router, but I need to connect it through the port on the Actiontec, which iirc is only 100Mb. Shouldn't that mean that the new router is forced to operate at only 100Mb max?

2) What is FIOS' top speed? I'm not even sure if it can go up to 450Mb.

3)I have no problems with this Actiontec currently, the only thing I'm looking for is more speed. Has anyone tried calling Verizon and see if they could switch the connection from coax to CAT5?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Verizon FIOS Internet / TV Setup With WRT54G2?

I'm trying to configure my Linksys WRT54G2 router as my primary router and have my Actiontec just used for the my FIOS TV (eg VOD, widgets, guide).  I've googled many HOWTO's on how to do this but I just cant get it working.  So setup up will look like this in th end:

(DHCP Server)
(Wireless)        (Only TV)
Internet >> WRT54G2 >>> Actiontec >>> PC/Laptops
|
FIOS TV -------------

how to set this up?  I understand that the STB devices configured on my Actiontec routers is actually my TV receiver and currently configured with the following IP addresses:

IP-STB1:Connection Type:    Coax
192.168.1.100
IP-STB2:Connection Type:    Coax
192.168.1.101
IP-STB3:Connection Type:    Coax
192.168.1.103

I have COAX Ethernet setup so everything is going through ethernet per Verizon phone tech.

Actiontec Firmware Version:  4.0.16.1.56.0.10.11.6
WRT54G2 = DDWRT firmware

I've tried the following HOWTO's to no avail.[URL]

Linksys Access Point :: E2500 Or E3200 - Best Option To Set Up Wireless With Verizon FiOS?

Dec 7, 2011

I have Verizon FiOs and their provided wireless router does not cover my entire house. There are plenty of dead spots throughout the house (house is 3500sq. ft.)

The FiOS comes into the basement so currently I have their router is set up in the basement. I wanted to shut off their FiOS wireless router and use my new E4200 router for wireless coverage. I am pretty sure the E4200 alone will not be able to handle my house. Most of the rooms of the house are already prewired with Ethernet cables. All those wires converge in the same closet in the basement, therefore moving the router is not an option.  I was thinking of putting whichever product you experts recommend in my office which is on the 2nd floor on one side of the house. This room does have Ethernet access. However it is currently at 50-60% signal (with FiOS). My bedroom which is on the opposite side of the house is at 10-20% signal (with FiOS).

I am looking to buy something to reach all the deadspots and have WIRED LAN access (if need be in the future). What is my best option? I have researched the RE1000, the WAP610N, and even some of the other routers (E2500 or E3200)  for hours. I am not an expert, and frankly after hours of reading, these technical terms of "range expanding" and "access points" are all sounding synonymous to me. I guess what I need is the range expansion on the same WiFi SSID my E4200 will provide (to cover all areas of my house), as well as an access point for connecting TVs, Xbox, or PCs in the future.

1) RE1000

2) WAP610N

3) or a router to use as an access point/range expansion combo? E2500 or E3200?

Naturally, is the range capability better for Routers or the WAP610N or RE1000?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 No Internet Connected To Verizon FIOS Actiontec Router

Jan 20, 2013

I connected EA6500 internet port to actiontec router provided by Verizon fios. I don't have any other way to connect as FIOS connection is coax to actiontec modem. I must take a drop from actiontec to internet port on EA6500.

With that said, I can't get EA6500 to work, it keeps saying no internet. The only way I can get it to work is when I set it to bridge mode. This makes my EA6500 a dumb switch/access point. I didn't spend $200 for a switch. I need to use advanced features offered by this router but I can't until this problem is fixed. I made sure I am running latest version of firmware (1.1.28.146856).

I have reset my fios router as well as ea6500 to factory defaults multiple times.

DIR-655 Frontier FiOS Went From Ethernet To Coax?

Jul 12, 2013

I moved from an apartment where they had run ethernet to a jack for me to plug it into my own router, it was nice. My new apartment the installer came over when i wasn't there (my gf was there) and he installed a coax jack next to my router and supplied a huge frontier box (wireless router/modem). And then connected it to my router.

After much configuration I finally got it to run good on my router, and I started wondering if I'm going to get the same latency and speeds as it was on ethernet straight from the box. I'm paying for a 30/10 connection. I'm sure the coax is enough, but it's the cheap Frontier box and coax connection together that I wonder about.

My ultimate question is, I have an old motorola DOCSIS 3.0 Surfboard modem (when I had Comcast) that I have laying around, will it work with it? I assume it will be better. I really dont need all the junk that this huge Frontier box has. I just want a good connection.BTW my router is a DIR-655.

HP OfficeJet 7310 - Fax Without Telephone Line With FiOS?

Dec 23, 2010

I've got Verizon Triple Play. Basically, my Internet, TV and Phone all come into my house on a Fiber Optic line. Well, I take that back, I don't quite understand what the FiOS Phone really is or how the signaling works.

I have this All-in-One machine, the HP OfficeJet 7310 (link to product information). I hooked it up to my network (printer to router via Ethernet port) the other day and it works great with printing from all of my clients, well the printing does. I haven't tried the scanning portion, yet but I would assume it works just fine. What I didn't hook up, is a phone line to it. I wanted to know if there's a way to fax through my network, thus eliminating the need for a telephone connection. I figured there COULD be a way, if my Phone at some point came through the Fiber Optic.

Limiting Bandwidth On A Laptop Using M1424WR FiOS Router?

May 15, 2011

I currently use Verizon FiOS 20/5. The speed has been great until the day my cousin and his parents moved in. They also use our FiOS connection and I have came to the conclusion that my cousin's laptop is eating away all of the bandwidth which makes all devices using FiOS have extremely slow internet speeds. I know it is his computer because I logged in as admin to the Verizon FiOS page (192.168.1.1) and I saw that he is using several P2P applications and downloading torrents as well. Is there a way I can limit the bandwidth he is using so that the internet speed can improve? I looked at the QoS tab and tried to play around with the settings, but I don't want to mess it up. The router I have is Actiontec M1424-WR (Verizon FiOS 20 Down/5 Up). A lot of sources I am reading says that I have to use the QoS, but I don't know how to use it on the site.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA2700 - Configuring FiOS As Bridge?

Sep 11, 2012

I recently bought an EA2700 in hopes that it will make my connection faster, stronger signal and stable. However, this is not the case. The connections keeps dropping and the range is the same as my Verizon-FiOS router. Anyway, I'm hoping that a fix be distributed to address this issue. I can't return my router to the vendor anymore.

Now, since I have two routers, I want to be able to leverage EA2700's dual-band feature and the Guest-access feature but I can't make this as a main router since my FiOS router should still be able to supply IP addresses to my cable boxes, thus, I can't configure it as a Bridge. I'm thinking if I just split the IP distribution as follows:

FiOS router: 192.168.1.2-110
EA2700: 192.168.1.111-150

Cisco Routers :: RV220W Losses WAN (FIOS Internet) To LAN Bandwidth

Sep 24, 2011

I Just got FIOS internet at Home with 43 Mbps down and 32 up (measured speed). I replaced the included router with my old reliable RV042 (V1) VPN router that I used with my old service in NY LI. This has been working very stable for  week or two, but I use my old 042 to remote desktop via VPN from my work, that was limited to maybe 9-10 Mbps (Home to office) way down from the 32 up I have now (the office has 80Mbps down). So I researched that the RV220W had a VPN speed that was much faster and I ordered one that I am trying this weekend.Out of the box, I plugged accessed and just clone the MAC at the WAN port to match the replaced FIOS router. Power cycle and surprise, no IP from FIOS!. After trying a number of things, I gave up and updated the firmware to the last 1.0.2.4, and that fixed this. I still need to clone the MAC to void calling Verizon FIOS, but at least I get IPs and Internet with no trouble.Next, I configured a couple forwards for two web servers. I found about the bug in this same forum and just used the rules instead. Working good so far.

So now I test WAN bandwidths, and I found all kind of trouble. With the old RV042 and similarly to the included Verizon router I can do steadily 43d/32u. Especially at night is quite stable in these numbers. When I went and move the cables to the RV220W (exact same set up) the speed went all over the map from 4d/8u to 43d/25u. If I power cycle the box, things tend to be stable again around 43d/25u. So, after a while being stable in these numbers I start trying things to improve the 25u that should be around 32u, and recover the missing 7 mbps. Not much I can think, so I just randomly enabled the QoS settings trying to reserve full BW for my tests, and I found just that enabling WAN QoS, and nothing else, no profiles or changes in the Priority Settings, I go up to 30u consistently over a number of tests. This do not affect  the down speed that is stable at 43 mbps. The surprising thing, is why this affect to the up speed when nothing else is going on in my network? and also where are the other 2 Mbps to complete the 32 Mbps that I can do with the RV042 (V1) or the cheap included router? In my opinion, if I don't use QoS, I should get full bandwidth to whatever application/computer that requests so, period.

Home Network :: Cannot Reach Internet With FIOS Router From Bridged RemotePC

Dec 20, 2012

I am trying to setup a remote PC over a wireless access Point/Bridge to our FIOS router. Pic of setup is shown below. Everything is connected, there are no errors or security warnings shown in the ActionTec MI424 router. The RemotePC IP shows up as an Active Ethernet client in the Router config app. Moreover, I can run the connectivity test from the router app to the RemotePC and it passes that, and I can PING from the RemotePC to the Router. Yet I cannot reach the Internet from a Browser on the RemotePC (192.168.1.75). I am using (2) DLINK DAP-1522 Access Point/Bridge units and they have worked as expected. I set the Router log to list any blocked IP traffic as well, and it does not show anything being blocked from the RemotePC (192.168.1.75). So why can't I reach the Internet from the RemotePC? Seems like a gateway problem or I need to make some config changes in the Router.

Fios Wifi Weak 20 Feet From Actiontec Mi424 Router - Options?

Aug 17, 2012

I got Fios installed this week. Router is the Actiontec MI424, it sits int he living room. I ran a speed test of the wifi on my laptop in the living room, and the internet speeds were great. Here's my problem. I'm in a 2 br condo, not a huge place maybe like 1200 Sq feet, same floor. Wifi is awesome in the living room, but in the bedroom it hangs. I still have a signal, varying for low to good, but it takes forever to open a web page, to the point where you can't use the internet. Bedroom is just down the hall.I called Verizon. They told me they can only guarantee the wifi signal 10 feet from the router, after that no promises. My frustration is that with my previous provider, which was giving me a slower internet connection, my wifi in the bedroom was fine and the router was in the exact same spot. Of course I used my own router? I know there are instructions on connecting my old router to the fios one and using my old router for wifi.

The MTU on the linksys is 1500.  It's connected correctly and is running it's own DHCP server.  (Why am I doing this?  I try to avoid the ActionTec routers, they have broken many services in the past.)The 2500 firmware is up to date.  I've tested on the wireless and wired (ethernet) interfaces.
