Show Mac-address On 2600 Series Routers?
May 24, 2011
How come the 2600 series IOS has the show mac-address command but it does not display anything? you need to use show arp? is this for when you use one of those network modules that is a switch?

I bought some hardware and created my own lab to prepare for the CCNA. I only have one machine with a serial port and whenever I try to connect to a router (I've tried multiple purchased from different sources) nothing happens on the screen. If I wait for a couple of seconds and hit enter I get the response shown on the screen in the screenshot I have inserted. If this image is too small I have also attached. looks like it has already asked me this but I am unable to see it. Shouldn't I see some information when I attempt to connect, some acknowledgement that I have connected? I have tried using both hyperterminal anbd PuTTy.

Normaly all incoming IP addresses can use NAT to gain access. I would like to make a rule that only one IP address can connect to my router and use that port or range of ports defined.
Is there a way to configure a SRP 527W on such a way?
If not possible now, can I expect a software update ?

My network generally runs older routers (2600 series) with 16 port switch modules (NM-ESW-16). This has always worked great since I can configure the router and the switch ports on the fly, making changes to either as necessary. Well I am upgrading to 2811 routers, and we wanted to get gigabit ethernet ports on our switch modules. I think I made an error when I purchased a few of these switch modules: NME-16ES-1G.
The first problem, is that the switch ports don't even show up on the router config, I have to establish a session into the switch, (And I can't seem to get back to the router unless I manually switch off power and restart). I don't like this type of switch module, it's like I'm running a completely separate device, and while having a layer 3 switch is cool, It doesn't let me setup routing protocols so I don't like doing it this way. I want to go back to using a switch module that simply adds a ton of ports to my router like the NM-ESW-16. (Note: The NM-ESW-16 does actually work in the 2811 and would be perfect if it were Gigabit speed.)
The seconds problem is that the NME-16ES-1G isn't actually a Gigabit switch. It has a single gigabit port, but the 16 ports are all Fastethernet, and not gigabitethernet. So ideally, I am looking for a switch module that I can fully configure from the router interface that has 16 gigabitethernet ports, and works with a 2811. IE I want to do this. [code]

My question relates to how many clients can be connected to a 2600 series AP. The documentation states 200 clients per radio and the AP has three radios. However when my AP gets to 200 it rejects further clients with the following log: [code] I see this exact message many times and each time the radio mac address is the same and the number of clients connected is 199. The same mac address is used for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz so does this AP have a single logical radio covering both 2.4 and 5ghz frequency ranges and is the limit for all connected clients 200?When viewing the AP details under the Wireless tab it only lists one mac address for each AP for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies.

My Draytek 2710 just dies after 2 years so I was looking for something a little more reliable and noticed the spec of the SRP527W-U.I take it with only one antenna and reading a couple of past discussions, the wireless will only manage n-lite as some people call it i.e. 150Mbps, and not the full 300? Oh, and are the ports still only 100M and not Gig?I know the 547 would tick both these boxes but we are talking twice the price. How does the quality and logevity of the SRP500 series compare to the RV series (which would need an adsl modem) or the Linksys boxes?

I have a Cisco 2600. I would like to know how to redirect traffic going to a certain IP address three hops away to an IP address on a locally connected segment.
Ex. Packet leaves a device with source IP of 10.10.10.10 and destination of 20.20,20.20 When the packet hits the router (10.10.10.1) I want the router to redirect the destination of 20.20.20.20 to 30.30.30.30 (locally connected segment).
The router has two physical interfaces.I am thinking along the lines of creating a VLAN with an ip of 30.30.30.1 and then doing a NAT translation from 20.20.20.20 to 30.30.30.30.

Can I buy that router, take the IOS off that one, and put it on another 2600 XM Series so I don't have to spend $400 on two routers with 12.4 on them?

I have some legacy (read: old) audio equipment that used leased lines to run, no way to convert them to IP internally. They have x.21 and v.35 interfaces on them.
Is there a way i could use something like an old 2600 series router and run it in reverse, like just using them as a media converter to shove the v.35 over into IP land?
I'm not interested in buying newest latest greatest (these audio codecs are upwards of $5k a pop to replace, x2 for a complete link), i'm just curious if i can turn a WIC-1T into the interface for these boxes and do a direct route to another 2600 on the other end with the same configuration.
This would essentially turn the WIC portion into the local side and the ethernet into the WAN side.

Some Routers support DHCP spoofing (zyxel / speedtouch). With DHCP spoofing (or half bridge) you can directly spoof you'r public IP address to the firewall. Firewall gets public IP address directly from modem. Benefit of this (no waste of an extra IP address). Modem has no IP address. It has to be possible with an 8xx series router I heard, but I cannot find how.I guess it can be done with a bridgegroup with the dialer and VLAN 1 in it (no ip addresses given).I tried but without any result.
