I am setting up a home network for transferring files from pc to NAS to popcorn hour.I already own a belkin modem/router which I don't use as I am with sky broadband and use there modem. Can I use my belkin wireless modem/router as a router only?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to set up a new Belkin modem/router.I have Internet on all three computers over both ethernet and wireless, but no local network. I think the problem may be IP addresses, but I cannot solve it.The LAN settings in the router now are:
DHCP (.) On
IP Pooling Start 192.168.2.2
IP Pooling End 192.168.2.100
Lease time: forever
LAN/DHCP Client List is empty.With the previous modem the IP addresses of the machines were from 192.168.1.2 upwards, but the new modem considers this range invalid.(This isn't specifically an XP problem as one of the machines is Window-7).
I recently purchased a new Belkin N wireless router, model number (F5D8236-4 V3), i am however trying to connect this router to my old Belkin G wireless Modem Router (F5D7632-4 Ver7000uk).Now i can't seem to get the N router to connect to the internet-after much faffing about i can get all the LED lights to turn blue-bar the wireless which blinks amber (i did this by turning the DHCP server off, and by using the same WEP code). I get limited connectivity wirelessly and wired, which basically might aswell just say no connection.
Taking the N router out of the equation, the g router can connect to the internet wired (it no longer seems to work wirelessly, and had a horrible range on it anyway). I use a PPPoE connection-all my ISP details are correct.how i can get the N Router to work wirelessly and wired.
My main networking device is the Ericsson T073G HGU ONT, and when I am connecting to the network through the Ethernet there are no problems. However when I connect my Belkin F6D4230-4 router to it (through cable) my router cannot recognize the modem.

I had a working LAN/WLAN for my home & home office, and the modem I was using got fried by the storm. Strangely enough nothing else was affected..Anyway, I went out and bought an identical modem, and had it set up with Comcast. If I connect directly to the modem, everything works perfectly. But when I try to attach my router to the new modem, I have no connectivity over wifi OR hardwired to the router. According to the status light on the router, it can't find a connected modem.I reset the router back to factory settings, installed the newest firmware, and moved my DHCP pool out of the default range. I then power cycled the whole setup - twice - with no success.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe have owned a this router for nearly a year now, and recently it has been acting up.Today I added a static connection or something of the like for my Xbox, with the correct ip gateway and subnet mask. Since the restart it has never stopped cycling the boot sequence without end. The download lights cycle and the router light flashes constantly. And I am unable to connect to the router page at 192.168.2.1 So I cannot reset the router, the hardware reset button just momentarily pauses the endless booting process.

Only problem is there is only one ethernet port on the modem that the internet provider gave us and of course that is taken up by his computer. I've forwarded the ports 2300-2310 in my router (both TCP and UDP) using the 'virtual servers' thing.
I've disabled windows firewall.
I've disabled my AVG antivirus.
I've disabled and enabled this thing to see if it would make a difference:

When I probe the ports from 2280 to 2330 using the Gibson research website, the ports I forwarded (2300-2310) say 'closed' and the others say 'stealth'. Why do they say CLOSED and not OPEN? There shouldn't be anything blocking those ports.
When I probe the ports from 2280 to 2330 with windows firewall ON, all of them say 'stealth', even though I've added those ports to the windows firewall exceptions.I just want those ports to say "OPEN" so I can join all games on Age of Empires 3 instead of coming up with the message "Failed to join game".
My Belkin "ADSL 2+ Model with Wireless G" router suddenly stopped allowing wireless access this afternoon - right in the middle of use - although the wired connections to that router still work fine. No settings seem to have been changed on the router, and I'm the only one with access. Two phones and a laptop that normally work fine just won't get an connection. The laptop - running windows 7 - says the configuration saved did not match what the router was asking for. I tried another computer that doesn't normally connect by wireless and was prompted for a WEP key - which is odd because the router is configured for WPA/WPA2 AES access with a 9 character pre-shared key. After trying a key unsucessfully I haven't been able to get that prompt up again.Meanwhile I've gone into the router settings and it's definitely set to ask for WPA/WPA2. There are some WEP keys specified if I use the drop-down menu to select WEP, but I can't get any device to prompt me to enter one now.

i think it has something to do with the i p address, its showing 0.0.0.0 when set on automatic, i then checked on the belkin setep page, and it showed the dchp was enabled? so i then got the information of the website and entered it manually but it still couldnt connect, i called both xbox and belkin and i know no more than i did before...xbox tried telling me after hours of questions and tests that it was my router, it musnt give out the 2.4gghtz needed, so i then called belkin, they also did tests and asked me questions and then told me that his computer screen is telling him the router can not connect to that xbox.
I have a Belkin F5D 8633-4 wireless modem/router which also has ports for wired connections. Would like to network the 3 PCs that currently use it for internet to be able to share printers. 2 are XP Home and 1 is XP pro. XP pro is the wireless the other 2 are wired.Tried the Wizard on XP pro but could not get it to work. Ideally I would like all 3 PCs to be able to access either of the 2 printers that I have but if I could do it with 2 of the PCs that would be OK.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA couple nights ago, in the middle of my surfing the net, i was cut off and 'checked the modem (working good) and the router, displaying blinking amber lights --modem and internet. I had to restart my router, usually, it would work after that and i could surf again. This time, when it started back up, the router light turned blue and then the modem and internet light started blinking amber. I haven't done anything except chat over the net when it happened. All other lights are blue. I have cycled the modem power, the router power, and restarted the computer and have the same results. I already followed the troubleshooting from Belkin support 192.168... completely restore it to it's factory settings and yet, i still end up not being able to connect in the internet and with that blinking amber lights. I already tried connecting directly from my modem to my win 7 laptop --no problem at all. I could surf and chat. but when i tried connecting it again from modem to router so i can do wireless.

The install seems to have gone fine and the firmware has been updated to the latest version. PCs/laptops/PS3s/phones can all connect to the router both wired and wireless. But the modem seems to be dropping its connection to the internet at regular intervals - sometimes every 15mins, other times less. The security log mentions "PPPoE disconnected" after which it reconnects.Has anyone got an idiot proof list of what I should be checking? My old Net gear DG834PN does not have this problem at all so it really has to be the router rather than the line - at least that is my guess.

Then its Blue Screen of Death and no joy. If I turn off the modem, the HTPC boots up perfectly normally. Turn the modem on and as soon as I try to recognise the home network, it crashes again.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFive months ago we moved into a new apartment, and connected up our broadband; the ISP provides a Thomson Speedtouch modem (ST546 v6), which I understand from Tech Support is running software v4 (it was issued with V5, but rolled back to V4 for stability issues).We prefer a WiFi network, so purchased a Belkin N Wireless Modem Router (F5D8636-4 v2); I connected it up ditching the ISP issued modem, and all worked well for four months. Suddenly it refused to see the ADSL connection - orange light flashing.So after four nights of 'fault resolution' with Belkin, they decided to send me a replacement... which I finally received last night. It didn't work - same problem, flashing orange light.I have the correct user name and password for the ISP - checked it not once, not twice, but four times. The Thomson Speedtouch works, but doesn't provide a WiFi environment. Can I connect the Belkin modem router into the back of the Thomson and transmitt/carry the WiFi signal that way, and if so, how? I tried (the obvious to me) plug a ethernet cable from the Thomson modem into the Belkin, but nothing.. I'm guessing there are a few important steps I missed.

He just got the home phone service from comcast and the phone line is setup through the modem. Ever since comcast came to his apartment and set this up the home phone service to his modem the router is connected but there is no internet access. What is going on and how can I fix this. He has an HP with windows Vista and I have a Toshiba Satellite L675 that has Windows 7 Home premium edition on it.

Digi Mil-H1130 8 Port Ethernet SOHO Hub
Hubbel Cat5 Patch Panel (goes up to 12)
We're replacing our DSL line with a Cable line. Our DSL was a one piece wireless router/modem. When it was installed, it was inside our office, next to the server, and plugged into Wall Jack 1 for all the other computers to connect to. Our server plugged into this modem/router. We didn't have the Belkin Router at the time. The Patch Panel wires went into the Hub behind our office and everything was fine.
The cable modem is now next to the Hub and Patch Panel. I bought the router since we didn't have the wireless feature that the DSL had and everyone I spoke to said I need a router to set up the office. I ran one of the LAN lines from the modem into the Router where it says Modem (WAN). From the Router, I ran the line 1 (LAN) into the Hub. (Does the number matter if nothing is plugged into it in our office?) No computer is able to connect to the internet except my laptop which connects wireless. It works fine.
Another problem. We have a server computer that's Unix based. In order for anyone to connect to the server to access the office software used, the IP address of the router must be 192.9.2.1 or the computer your using won't connect via Multiview 2000 Terminal Emulator. I can't connect to the server because the IP address of the router is still 192.168.2.1. I don't know where I have to go in the router settings to change it. I've tried a few spots and it tells me the IP address is invalid. The settings I had with the DSL modem/router were:
Modem IP address - 192.9.2.1
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
DHCP Start Address - 192.9.2.100
DHCP End Address - 192.9.2.150
It's not like I need to run wires. Everything is set. If something is plugged into a wrong spot, I can switch it.
Additional info:
There are 4 computers in the office and 8 numbered wall jacks.
Server computer - Wall jack 8 (IP address of this machine - 192.9.2.25)
XP Machine 1 - Wall jack 4 (can't connect to server! No internet.)
XP Machine 2 - Wall jack 1 (Is able to connect to the server! No internet.)
Win CE Machine - Wall jack 9 -
I assume. I have a wire that goes through the wall on this machine and it isn't marked. (Rarely used so not sure about server connection)
Wireless Windows7 laptop - connects to the internet fine since it bypasses all these wires. Can't connect to server.
Under the DHCP client list, only 2 computers are listed. The one that has internet is my computer. The other computer listed is wall jack 4 and that has internet now.
my computer - 192.9.2.2
wall jack 4 - 192.9.2.3
The router IP is 192.168.2.1 and the Cable Modem is 10.1.10.11. If I type either number into my web browser it will take me to the router setup page. I don't know where/how to check if it's only one device acting as DHCP. What I want to do is be able to get online with all the computers as well as have access to the software on the server through the office wall jacks. In order to do that I need the router IP address to be 192.9.2.1 and then I'd be able to connect to it.
Right now, one computer is able to connect to the server via hard wire but can't connect to the internet.Another computer is able to connect to the internet via hard wire but can't connect to the server.My laptop can connect wireless to the internet but not the server. In a perferct world, all the computers should be able to connect to both the internet and the server. Right now, it's one or the other with both hard wired machines and I don't know why. Is there a wire not in the hub right? Is a patch panel wire plugged into the wrong port of the hub? I don't know what's supposed to go where. tell me "wire X from the modem goes to Port Z of the router, and Wire Y from the the router goes to number V on the Hub, and that wire goes to number T on the patch panel for the Port number R in the office to work..." I'll try it.
Then I think all I need to do is change the router's IP address to 192.9.2.1 and everyone should be able to connect to the server through the Multiview 2000 Terminal Emulator.When I tried to change the IP address on the router it's telling me it's not valid. Under LAN settings it says 192.168.2.1 - when I try to change it to 192.9.2.1 it tells me LAN IP address is invalid. I clicked on More Info below that in the router page and a pop up gives me info. It says:

I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.
