Mar 17, 2012Desktop PC running Windows 7 connected to D-Link DIR-655 via cable.I then have a Laptop also running Windows 7 connected to router wireless.Finally, I have a Brother MFC-490CW printer connected to the network wireless as well.Checked out the router status page - it shows all three devices connected properly.My PC, however cannot find the printer to save its' life; I've tried auto-detecting, entering the IP address; none of this seems to work, the PC just REFUSES to find the printer. If I connect the Printer to the router with a cable - my PC finds it alright.I'll admit - wireless networking is not my forte - and so I'm not sure, but my Laptop is connected to my specific wireless network (by name) while my PC is just showing as connected to "Network"

We also have a lexmark printer that is connected wireless as well. The Vista laptop has worked and prints fine with the lexmark. Now I have been trying to connect my new laptop to find the printer but when trying to add a new printer or even trying to add a new device windows 7 never finds the printer. I have installed the drivers from lexmark and have even enabled sharing on the printer properties from within the Vista laptop and still my win7 cannot find anything. What can i do to add this printer?

Jan 5, 2012I am running a computer with Windows 7 Service pack 1 64 bit OS and I'm trying to install a wireless Canon MX420 printer.My computer is connected to my router through an ethernet cord and I have managed to set up my printer's wifi just fine. It appears connected on the printer's screen and I have disabled all firewalls on my computer yet it still won't detect it.

I tried restarting my laptop, wireless adapter, and the printer, I also try restarting the spooler service but the attempt was not successful. Try unchecking SNMP and the printer is online but I can't print from it. So, I decided to uninstall the printer and reinstall it again. This is where another problem occurs. When I try reinstalling it, my laptop seems to be unable to find the printer (I have entered the IP address of my Printer but the printer still can't be found). Oh, and by the way, other laptop seems to be able to print a document from that printer.

Oct 13, 2011Trying to print from a Dimension E521 using Dell AIO Center to a hard-wired networked 962 printer hosted on an Inspirion 530 using a LinkSys WRT54G V8 router. Cannot scan or fax from the Dimension via the network. During software install, the printer is not automatically detected on the network and it has to be manually assigned. Attempt to print test page via the network during software install results in a document in the print queue that hangs the printer with a print error. After the aborted test page, nothing works.
Using the VISTA Control Panel can successfully set up the printer and can print a test page to it. In this case, the printer install CAN see the printer on the network, so I don't think it is a network issue.
However, if the control panel is used to install the printer, the AIO center cannot find it at all and displays an error that software and drivers are not installed. Yes, Network and Sharing are all set up correctly and, no, the Firewall is not the problem as it is turned off on both machines.
Drivers are not the issue. I have deleted the drivers and reinstalled them so many times in the last week I can do it in my sleep.
Setup Permanent Printer IP Address?
Nov 18, 2011I have a network printer which is connected to unmanaged switch, then unmanaged switch is then connected to one of the slots on the router (to get internet access). I use the program Free IP Scanner to look for the IP so then I can find the IP address of my printer. Then I would go to Port setting of the printer and change. Every week or month I have to do this. Two things I would like to know:
1. I have a 2003 server which is not connected or active yet. it's just sitting there running but no computers or printers are connected yet. How do I make this to be a printer server and solved my issue of having keep tracing the IP for my printer?
2. If not using the server, how would I setup my printer IP address to be permanent?
