Jul 11, 2012I have a computer that I built a few years ago. Not sure of the exact specs, but for this question, I'm not really sure it matters other than the fact that I am a diehard XP fan. Guess which OS I am using. It does not have an onboard NIC, so I am using a NetGear WG111v2 wireless adapter that I got at just about the same time as the computer. I recently moved in with some friends and they have wireless internet. I hooked up my pc, and proceeded to connect to the internet. I got a good connection, but the dreaded "Limited or No Connectivity." First off, I tried disabling the connection and then re-enabling. This had no effect. So, like always, I do a power cycle. Same thing. Ipconfig gives me a 169.254.x.x, nonroutable, ip address. I release and renew. No good. Reset winsock. No good. Device manager says my adapter is working and drivers are up to date. In any case, I uninstall and reinstall it only to find the same results as before. There are three other computers on the network, one of which is my laptop, that all connect and are provided private ips by the router.

Feb 4, 2011I no longer have internet access from my home network ONLY on my desktop computer. Everything was working fine as always - then while I was in my Network and Sharing Center, and clicked on my ethernet connection, 'Local Area Connection 3', I accidentally disabled it. No big deal I thought, so I re-enabled the connection. Except for some reason, my connection is all screwed up now. The name of this connection was and always has been 'dkm2' and now it just says 'Network', with no internet access. I have unplugged the cord and plugged it into this laptop and it immediately recognizes 'dkm2' and connects flawlessly, so I know the problem is on the desktop computer's end, and not the cable or router. I have tried reinstalling the ethernet adapter, as well as reinstalling/updating all drivers for it.The network diagnostic tool turns up with a message that says the connection between either my ethernet adapter or router and the Internet is broken. No matter what I seem to try, I can't get my connection to go back to it's normal 'dkm2' connection and stop giving me a generic, disconnected 'Network'. I can't figure out what could have changed. All that happened was the disabling and enabling of Local Area Connection 3.

Oct 9, 2012I purchased a WNDR3400v2 probably around two months back and since then I haven't had any issues with it. Now, I like to keep the security setting on WPA2-PSK for the security but my brothers and my own Nintendo DS don't support this security for connecting. So, since my previous router had a guest network, I decided to activate and deactivate that network with no security when it was needed (Half hour or less), and I haven't had any issues until doing this with the WNDR3400v2.
Basically what happens is, after disabling the guest network again, no wireless devices can connect to the router... PERIOD... Upon trying to connect it also says "You are unable to connect) right after it verifies the password. I spent a few hours trying to fix it but I haven't gotten anywhere really..
What I have tried-v
-Resetting the Router
-Powercycling the Router
-Resetting it to factory defaults and restoring previous settings
-Enabling and disabling the network
-Deleting the original network saved on the computers and connecting as if from a new network.
-Also tried restarting my computers
-Updating the firmware (For some odd reason I couldn't find any firmware last week..)
I researched it a bit and found some solid leads, but nothing that fixed the issue. The only "Fix" I could find was disabling the security and leaving it open.. Which I would prefer not to do for obvious reasons...

Oct 14, 2012Problem: IPsec VPN setup seems ok (Client to gateway) but is not responding from client requests. However, remote manage works, PPTP works.
My environment:
Hardware: RV016 10/100 16-Port VPN Router
Firmware: v4.2.1.02 (Jan 18 2012 14:10:55)
Clients: Mac OS X 10.8 (integrated VPN client) , Windows 7 (build in VPN client) OR both with NCP-E VPN client.
None of the above works with IPsec. I have tried all kinds of combinations. I don't think the problem is wether I use Group1 or Group2 or DES or AES...It must be something else... Neither of the built-in VPN (IPsec) clients in Mac OS X or Windows can be configured in an easy way. BUT the NCP-E client can. I have tried to set it up to exactly meet the settings on the server but no progress...How do I setup an IPsec VPN group so that I can use any of my VPN clients to work?
PS. I have also tried the client that comes delivered. 1- It does not work and 2- it's only available for Windows.

Aug 13, 2012I'm trying to enable port security on several 4507R's. When I try to configure a range of ports the switch will randomly put 1 or 2 in err-disable. It's different every time I apply the config to the same group of ports. However if I do them one at a time it seems to work. But I really don't want to configure 6 fully populated switches one port at a time. We also have a lot of 3750's and they gave me no problem using a port range. [code]

Feb 1, 2011I am trying to setup an RV016 router to do "1 to 1 NAT". I am starting with setting the external IP address of my RV016 to 10.8.58.219 on the WAN1 port, and LAN IP 10.10.20.254. Simple enough. When I connect my laptop to port1 on the router's LAN side I can ping the router's external AND internal IP addresses fine; But I can not ping from outside when connected through WAN1 port.I am performing a simple local test with an external hub, I put a patch cable from WAN1 port to the hub, another patch cable from port 1 on LAN side to the same hub, and from my laptop to the hub. When I use my laptop's IP address with the internal schema (10.10.20.100 for example) I can ping both WAN1 and LAN IP's; but when I use on my laptop the external IP schema (10.8.58.100 for example) I can not ping it. Therefore is not working when I connect my router to the real network.I went into the web setup pages of the router and dissabled: firewall and basicaly all security "blocks" it has, and leave it open for my testing.

Oct 19, 2011We are deploying a new batch of RV016 with the latest firmware (4.0.4.02). We are using 3 WAN ports for internet access (WAN1, WAN2, WAN3)The WAN ports connects to Cicso 800 series adsl modem with DHCP.The RV016 WAN1 port setting regularly resets to 0.0.0.0 despite that the modem dhcp is still up and running. A cold boot, resets all the configuration and WAN1 port start working againg a new ip.
All three WAN ports are set to automatically obtain ip from the modems.We have tried several modems, and even swap WAN ports, but the error is persistant to WAN1 only.
WAN2 and WAN3 are up and running without any errors. This error is persistant with WAN1 only.We have also configured a manual ip on WAN1, and after a few hours of operation on all 3 ports, traffic on WAN1 comes to a halt.We have the same error on 3 units we received last week.All there modem are configure on different subnets.It does not seems to be a configuration error with the modem as they work perfectly well with the WAN2, WAN3 ports.We also tested a RV016 out of the box using the wizard setup, without any extra setting/configuration, and we got the same error after a few hours of operation.

Jun 20, 2011when opening SSH service to a Database Administrator within my LAN, that has a RV016 as the default gateway. So confidence, I just set up a port forwarding in Setup > Forwarding and everything works fine, cool.
However, I do not want this to be a public access, I need a specific firewall rule for a specific external IP address (only the DBA fixed IP Internet might connect to my database server through SSH).
O noticed that when a port forwarding is created within RV016, it bypass the firewall default rules and wide-opens the service (port) to the web. Conceptually, this is correct, as port forwarding is a network translation, but I expected that my firewall had work over this.
My current solution was to create a "Deny from all" rule at port 22 and then create one additional rule that allows traffic from an specific IP at port 22.

Everything is working great except for one important detail.. There is currently no way to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 range expander! I just flashed it with the latest firmware (v1.0.01 build 2, Jul 22, 2011) , but I'm still unable to disable it, even though it is disabled on the E4200 from which it's receiving the signal it's rebroadcasting. I am seriously considering returning the RE1000. Linksys. add the ability to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 in a (not too distant) future firmware upgrade! As far as I'm concerend, this is a MUST HAVE feature in order for this product to even be considered for use in any sensitive network environment.

I just bought a wireless N adapter (2.4GHz and 5GHz capable), and cannot get an N connection.. On 2.4GHz it connects to G only. And on 5GHz, I don't even see the whole band to connect to it.

Sep 9, 2012My old modem from Roadrunner (Time Warner) died and the service man replaced it with a Arris TG852 modem/router. then my problems began. I would like to have the Arris modem act like a modem and not a router. The network governed by the DIR works fine but none of the clients can connect to the internet. Below are the steps I have tried.in both steps below, The DIR is connected to the Arris using the Ethernet not the Wan port.
1. I tried disabling DHCP on the Arris router and setting a static IP address for the DIR router. This worked for a bit and then quit. Some of the computers said there were duplicate IP addresses on the network. If fact the same IP address showed up in the DNS list of the Arris and the DIR routers.. even though the Arris router had DNS disabled.
2. After reading other forums. I enabled DHCP on the Arris and set it to passout IP address between 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.99. I then setup the DOR to pass out addresses between 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.200. then moved the DIR into the DMZ of the Arris. Still no access to the internet.

Jul 1, 2011I was quite excited about E4200 I got yesterday. Everything works perfect except front LED light start blinking a few hours later. Don't know why it happens in a sudden and non-stop. After several tries, I found that disabling SSID broadcast for both 2.4 and 5GHz stops the blinking.Of course, before doing that, I upgraded firmware to 1.0.02, reset to factory defaults and finally set up E4200 manually rather than using Cisco Connect. Now the LED light is continuously lit.

Mar 1, 2012A few weeks ago I noticed that at 9:00am sharp every morning my internet access dropped, and would come back up four minutes later.
The router is connected to a DSL-526B in bridge mode. My first thought was that the modem was playing up, so I factory reset it and reconfigured it.
I checked my ACLS and didn't see any rules that started or ended at 9:00 am so I just lived with it for a week or so until it got so annoying I contacted my ISP to see if they were resetting anything at 9am.
By accident, I saw that my wireless radio was being enabled aat 9:00am, as it had been for the last 2 years, when I first bought the router. But this problem has only started a few weeks ago.
So I changed the wireless schedule to see if that was really the cause for the reset, and sure enough, whatever time I changed the wireless schedule to, the router rebooted at that time.
I've also factory reset the router; twice; the first time I saved/restored my configuration, the second time I recreated all configuration from scratch.
why enabling the wireless radio resets the router, and why disabling it doesn't, and how to correct this behaviour?
