Severe % Dropped Packets On XP Machine When Windows 7 Machine On Network Not Switch
Aug 2, 2011I have a strange error on my home network that I cannot find a solution to.I have an Huawei SmartAX MT882 from TalkTalk acting as a modem connected to a D-Link DSL-G624T acting as a router/switch. Connected to the D-Link I have a Windows 7 Pro machine (64-bit, SP1) and an XP (home i think) machine (sp 2 i think).The SmartAX modem is set up to perform DHCP and DNS relaying and the D-Link has DHCP turned off and DNS relay turned off.The Win7 machine can access the network, get an IP address and access the internet without problems, regardless as to the status of the XP machine.The XP machine can access the network, get an IP address and access the internet with no problems ONLY of the win7 is powered up. When the win7 machine is off, the XP machine seems to drop about 25% of the ping packets between it and the D-Link router and has no internet access (because of this i assume). [code]

Jul 20, 2011New Win-7 machine set up. I used the printer set-up wizard to install a networked printer in the new machine with absolutely no problem. Proved it would print from that machine.Now, I get a call informing me that her old XP machine, which had been printing to the network printer with no problems, will no longer print.Documents go into the print queue, but they don't get printed.No error messages show up.I did some messing around via remote access, and finally removed the printer with the intention of reinstalling it.Scanning for network printers turned up several redundant instances of the same printer with different names. Some are identified as "invalid" some a "access denied". Bottom line. I can't get any of the selections to install.On the Win-7 machine I did find a window that indicated that the printer is designated as being shared, but I didn't explicitly set it for sharing when I installed it. Also, I somehow got to a window that told me that for printers that were to be shared with other versions of windows I could optionally install drivers to support such machines. Didn't have the driver disk handy and took the window down. Now I can't even find it again.I need sorting this all out.Part of the problem is that out there in "network land" there are redundant remnants of previous installations that are being remembered inappropriately.

Apr 29, 2012I have a network problem. My windows 7 machine is not detecting win xp machine whereas win xp machine is detecting win 7 machine. They are in the same workgroup named Home. And the networking system is set to work. I have left the homegroup I was previously in. I enabled file sharing for devices that use 40 bit and 50 bit encryption. On XP I have enabled NetBios over TCP/IP. File sharing is enabled on both computers. I think it's something obvious as both instalations on different computers are really fresh and both windows haven't been tampered with.

Oct 22, 2012I have just rebuilt our lms 4 server onto a newly built serve 2k8r2, from our old 2003 box.
The software is installed, and setup, however I cannot get it to add any devices to the inventory. Every device it trys to talk to is classed as unreachable.
I can telnet into each switches from the server, however the LMS software for some reason cant speak.
Can't Connect To Internet After Fresh Install
Mar 15, 2011I just recently got a new SSD, and I fresh installed windows 7 on it. I booted up, noticed that my internet connection would go from the red x to the swirly blue to say it was connecting, but back to the red x. I installed drivers from my MB CD just to get them on there, and I installed the LAN drivers that came with it. No luck.I go to Device Manager and see that it has my reltek LAN ethernet driver in there, NIC(NDIS 6.2) #3 So, then I checked the cable, I assumed this wasn't the issue, but just double checked. It worked in this laptop I'm using now. Then, I tried to window trouble shoot it. IT says a network cable is not properly plugged int(false, i tested the cable)It then says, Local Area Connection 2 doesn't' have a valid IP configuration.I went into CMD and typed /ipconfig release and renew I would get No operation can be performed on local area connection 2 while its has its media disconnected and An error occurred while renewing interfaces local area connection 2 : The operation was cancel by the used.

Jul 7, 2012I recently built a new computer and everything seemed to be fine but won't let me go onto the internet...I'm using an ethernet cable from the computer to the modem/router (a Netgear DGNB2100). The little tray icon next to the clock says I have "Internet access" but Internet Explorer won't load any web pages (it stays on "Website found. Dec 8, 2012Computer got bad virus (the FBI one on the news) so after every attempt to eradicate it failed, I did a fresh install of Windows 7 onto the computer. However for some reason it won't even acknowledge that it has a Network Adapter. When I go to Driver Devices, there is no Network Adapter to even click on to see what the adapter is so I know what kind of driver to install.
So being an optimist I installed several drivers and nothing has worked. Its set on cable connection and I can't get it to acknowledge its wi-fi. I haven't tried plugging it straight into the modem yet. That's my next step.

Sep 23, 2012 I have a Dell XPS 8300 desktop. The desktop recently got a virus which caused me to completely reformat the computer. I thought the PC came with a drivers CD but either it did not or I cannot find one. Now that I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 it will not connect to the internet. I have tried downloading all network drivers, bios drivers and making sure BIOS is enabled but still I am unable to connect to the internet.
What can I do to fix this problem or is there any place that I can purchase the actual drivers CD for my PC so that this does not happen again? I have gone to the drivers and downloads page, put my tag number in and literally downloaded every single driver listed and still it is giving me the "no connection detected" error.

Aug 24, 2011I was trying to erase my lab router 2600 and reset it back to the factory defaults. Well I was able to to reset it all right but I used the erase command which worked a little to well. So now there is no IOS and the router is in ROM mode and I didnt back up the pervious IOS "Nice". So was able to get an updated IOS for my 2600 but I'm trying to install it and don't know how. I was able to get a tftp server app for my windows pc but I'm unsure on how to configure it so I can transfer the new IOS to the router. On the up side I did learn something erasing and reset are to very different things.

Oct 20, 2011I've been setting up building and testing our new ACS 5.x boxes and I've been running into a spot of bother with the backup restore feature. This most likely due to my unfamiliarity with the tool.
As part of my testing for Backup/Restore, I first backup the data using the Removal and backup tool in Secure ACS View (found under data management. I then confirm that the new FULL backup has been populated my test repository and is available in the restore feature. (also under Data Management) My next step is to create a few test Network Device Groups, Identity groups, and users Then I go back to the restore feature select the Back up file I just created, I also check the box Skip View Database backup before Restore and hit the restore button.
The box goes through the expected steps including a reload. When it comes back up I would expect the test users, groups etc I created after the last backup to be gone as they did not exist at that time. Although I find the opposite is true. Any settings I made after the last backup are still present. I do not have incremental backups enabled.
I essentially want to test a backup of the database of users and groups/rules etc make changes and then restore that database to the previous backed up configuration.

PC should connect to internet through the router, TP-Link TL WR340GD, along with 3 other PCs which are all working fine. Basically, the PC caught a virus and I performed system restore. After that, the PC was working fine, except that there was no internet connection. I tried to reset winsock from command promp, but that did not sort the connection problem.I noticed that the yellow light on the back of the tower, for the ethernet cable connection, is yellow when the cable is not plugged in, however, as soon as I plug the ethernet cable in, the light disappears. The same cable is working fine when connected to other PCs so it does not seem to be the cable problem. The information in Network Connections says Limited or no connectivity. Full messages when prompted says: "You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. The problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer.To restart the connection and try to establish full connectivity, cliick Repair." and then, after clicking repair, it says:"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:Renewing your IP address.For assistance contact the person who manages your network."I also tried to release and renew IP address from command promp, but that did not work either.
