Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4510E License Required For BGP?
May 3, 2012
I have a 2 X 4510E switch with dual sup-7E running as the core switches of my company. we would like to enable BGP on these switches, according to cisco released datasheet IPBase license does NOT support BGP. When i typed question mark, BGP commands did show up. I just wonder does BGP really works on this image/license or we need to upgrade to ent license?
Is there a Security Plus trial license available for the ASA 5500 series? I currently have one sitting around that I would like to use for testing, but it only has the base license.
I have a customer who accedentally got a AIR-LAP-1141. He needs it to be autonomous. If I convert from LWAP to Autonomous, will there be a licensing issue?
Currently we have a CISCO 3020 VPN Concentrator to terminate Lan-to-Lan tunnels and have our mobile workers connect via CISCO VPN client (300 users-employees and contractors-). Since this device is coming to an EOL this year we purchased a CISCO 5520 (below are the current licenses on it)
The licensing seems rather complicated, therefore this is my question:
- What VPN solution do you recommend for our users and contractors? it is my understanding the CISCO VPN client does not work with ASA 5500 series devices
- Is there a license needed to deploy VPN solutions for our remote users(employees/contractors)?
I have Cisco 7609 router and we have observed that router is rebooted due to the following error ;SLOT 3: Apr 13 16:06:26.621: %CARDMGR-2-ESF_DEV_ERROR: An error has occurred on Egress ESF Engine: Control Store Parity Error SLOT 3: Apr 13,Slot -3 we have SIP-400 card. We would like to know if there is any MIB which can monitir such reboots.
I have a WS-C3560G-24TS-S running 12.2(50)SE5 with IPBASE. I have been told that the functionality i seek (multicasting) is only available in the IPSERVICES version of the software. I was reading up on upgrading and saw that i needed to do a show license and get the UID and Serial number and get a license that is tied to my box. But the show license command doesnt work wtih my box. i then found something that said that the 3560's were special in that way. Im not sure how to get this box upgraded. I have a different 3560 running the IPSERVICES elsewhere in my organization. Can i take the IOS Version and update my switch to that?
I am quite new to firewall, in my company one asa 5510 firewall is there.I configured inside, outside, dns, dhcp and nating.I need to config bandwidth limit (1Mbps) for inside port and I restruct like facebook, youtube and pornsites..And I heard that some subscription is required, really is it required?
I am just going to deploy some new 4900Ms for a customer. Want to know if configuring management for 4900 (everything like NTP, AAA, SNMP , DNS ) is doable through management interface in management VRF and there are no caveats to be aware of.
currenly running a C6509E, with a WS-SUP720-3B running IOS level S72033-adventerprisek9_wan-MZ.122-22.SXH3. I want to install a WS-X6748-GE-TX blade and would like NOT to have to upgrade IOS at this time. Future migrations are planned. Can this be done?
We currently run 1 Cisco 6509 (CatOS) for our production network. It has multiple vlans which feed distribution switches on each floor in 2 buildings. Essentially each floor is its own vlan. Each floor switch is connected back to the 6509 via fiber connections. We also have several production vlans that our VMware and AIX environments connect to.
I would like to phase out the the 6509 and replace it with a new 6513 chassis, sup720's etc. Currently it is sitting next to the 6509 in the rack. I need to limit downtime as much as possible but can get one shutdown window over a weekend. However I dont think it would be enough time to move all of the existing etherconnections etc etc
So I am looking to run them both at the same time and slowly migrate over to the 6513 over the next few months. My solution was to use the 6513 (IOS) in L2 mode only for now and trunk it back to the 6509 via 4 1 gig connections in a LACP config.
So the 6509 would still be handling all of the L3 routing for now.Once I had moved all of the fiber and ethernet connections over to the 6513, I would use the shutdown weekend to configure the 6513 for L3 and essentially turn off the 6509 at that point.
My questions are - Is there a better way to do this ? - By trunking the 6513 to the 6509 do I need to worry about any loop issues ? - I am aware of the oversubscription issue for the port channel and have spread the 4 interfaces over the different groups of asics.
We have a requirement to build a datacenter within a datacenter for a new project. The existing Core network is 2 x Cisco 6509 in VSS configuration. We would like to connect the new datacenter to the existing Core switch from the new low-end Core switch. This datacenter would have a SAN network and blader chassis.
Listing the Cisco Switches requirements and expansion module requirements ?
- What expansion module is required at existing 6509 ? Can we have one 10Gibit modules on each switches and crate a port-channel connection from new datacenter core switch ?
- Which model of Switch you recommend for the new Datacenter Core which is only going to have one SAN Enclosure and two blade chassis? Will it be a good option to use 3750E ? If yes do we need any additional modules there ?
- Which aggregation switch should we use for the blade enclosure ?
- Should we have a Cisco Embedded Switch module on the chassis to create trunk with aggregation switch ?
- How the SAN director switch is connecting to the LAN ? should we have any particular module at new Core switch ?
We have one switch 4510R which could have total 300 cisco GE color phone connected. That means 300x15.4=4620W. Considering the 89% effiency for the PoE line cards, that means each line card needs 5191W input power from chasis power supply. Based on the 6000W power supply specs, only up to 4800W is allocated for PoE purpose. But we need 5191W from power supply which redundant mode can't offer. We don't want to go with combined mode. So should we add external power shelf to add more power?Another question will be how much power we need from utility or UPS. For example, the efficency of cisco power supply is 75% and we use two 6000W power supplies in redudant mode. Then we need 8000W. The voltage is 220V. Then the AMP we need is 36.4A from UPS or utility power.
One of branch locations has a Cisco 1941 Router . The port details are as follows
-Gi0/0 - ISP line -Gi0/1 - Inside Network ( To a 2960 Switch)
Now they have procurred another line from ISP through which MPLS based VPN to the Main location is configured. What are the options I have , to terminate it on the Router ? As all the On board LAN ports are filled I guess I wont be able to do anything with the current setup .Are Switching modules available ? What is the Embedded-Service-Engine0/0 port that I see on #sh ip int b output ?
I have a RSPAN session configured between a Cisco 3750 and Cisco 2950 switches and I dont see the traffic I am expecting to see on the destination port. I only see broadcast traffic .. HRSP hellos etc. Below is what I have configured on both switches.
This is regarding CISCO logging configuration. We palnned to implement enable logging on all the cisco nexus switchs.we are running HP arc sight in our DC this device monitor all the CISCO devices. We want to enable logging with this Arc sight device.Just I would like to know about config commands for Nexus device, what is the command to enable logs which is include "who is login & logout?, interface down information?,who was did conf t ? & every logs"
I have Catalyst 6509 E with redudant SUP720-3B (and MSFC3) running 12.2(18)SXF6 IP Services Lan Only IOS (this IOS requires 512MB DRAM and 64MB of flash) SUP has 512MB DRAM (458720K/65536K) and 512MB sup-bootdisk:, but, there is65536K bytes of Flash internal SIMM (Sector size 512K).
My question is can I put 12.2(33)SXJ3 IP Services Lan Only IOS to this 6500 because this IOS requires 512MB DRAM and 512MB od flash? This is "sh ver" and "dir all-filesystems" of my 6500:

We are working with a contractor to upgrade our network, and I heard from them that the 5596/5548 might not need the Layer 3 module for our inter-VLAN routhing. They have yet to give me an answer.
We do have a few static routes on our current layer-3, core switch too.
We currently have 2 6509s with redundant Sup720-3b's and PFC3B daughter cards which are connected together over dark fibre using the Gb fibre connectivity built into the supervisors.
The requirement is to upgrade this connection to 10Gb as inexpensively as possible.
Do I need to purchase new supervisors in order to do this properly or can I use a separate 10Gbe module (we have a spare slot), i.e. can I get away without using the connectivity built into the supervisors?
The other idea I had was putting a couple of 3750-X switches at each end to sit in front of the 6509s and provide the 10Gb connectivity between sites. I could then use the existing Gb uplinks on the supervisors whilst also providing connectivity for some devices that currently connect to the 6509s but could just as well connect here.
We have just received a new 3750X-12S-S to put onto our existing network but I am having a few issues getting this switch working correctly. For this post, the permenant license is not activating/applying, switch boot up gives the following errors:
From my understanding these switches come with the ipbase license as default, and the other switch I received (3750X-24P-S) has this license loaded with no issues.
Am attempting to load a new license on a 24 Port 3750X. Was LANBase code, need to get it to IPBase. Have the license file. Have put it on the flash drive. Running "license install flash:" i get the message "%Error reading flash: (is a directory)%Error: License installation failed with error: XML parsing failed"The license installation instructions are a bit cryptic so I could be messing it up. However, every variation I can think of is not working. The command listed above gets the most "promising" results.
we just got brand new 3560X with LANBASE license installed. Wanted to confirm with a "show license"
To my surprice (output below) I hav IP Services evaluation. I tried to test with an "show ip route" and "ip route..." in configuration mode with no success. How do I use the trial license?
Switch#show license Index 1 Feature: ipservices Period left: 8 weeks 4 days License Type: Evaluation License State: Active, Not in Use, EULA not accepted License Priority: None [Code]...
If we have 3 stacked 3750s# running Layer 3. Do we need license for every switch? or is it one license for the 3 switches? Also is the license associated with the MAC address of a specific switch? What i# am trying to know also, is if we have to install one license and it is associated# with one MAC and this switch failed.. will the Layer 3 be broken?
I have a cisco router 1941 and i have uploaded before evaluation license , now i have already bought cisco security license .I have already installed on cisco router , but the problem the router is still using the evaluation license not the new license .
I have cisco 3750 with ipservices license and I am running with c3750e-universal-mz.122-50.SE2. And I would like to upgrade the IOS " k9" IOS. ie c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-50.SE2. Is there any license required for that ?Also any difference in the IOS upgrade procedure.
I want to turn on EIGRP functionality on my layer 3 3750 stack. I noticed I was only running an IPBASE license. When I do show license all I notice I have an evaluation of IP SERVICES image (see output below). Can I use this evaluation license? Would it be same as the full license or would it have limited functionality? Also, how do I make it the active license?
Q9-Switch#sh license all License Store: Primary License Storage Store Index: 0 Feature: ipbase Version: 1.0 License Type: Permanent License State: Active, In Use License Priority: Medium License Count: Non-Counted

I am using Cisco 4510 Switch with Default LAN Base image. Now I have purchased 10G Upgrade license. The part number for Upgrade license is WS-C4500-10G-LIC. I have received a CD from Cisco (named as 'Includes License and Warranty'). Any License upgradation is required for this license? Or this is only a paper License.
I could not find out any .lic file on the CD. Also there is no paper with PAK.
