If we have 3 stacked 3750s# running Layer 3. Do we need license for every switch? or is it one license for the 3 switches? Also is the license associated with the MAC address of a specific switch? What i# am trying to know also, is if we have to install one license and it is associated# with one MAC and this switch failed.. will the Layer 3 be broken?
View 1 RepliesIm trying to stack 2 3750E-24PD-S and 2 3750X-12S-S. The 2 3750E finds eachother and stacks with one master as they should. The problem is that and the 3750X does the exact same thing instead of joining the 3750E stack.Both runs the same IOS (c3750e-ipbasek9-mz.122-58.SE2).The stackingcables are connected like following atm (I tried booting up the switches one at a time and all at once, no difference in the result).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've got LACP-enabled port-channels between a Cisco 3750 stack and a few different switches (some Cisco 3750s and some Juniper EX2200s). The Ciscos are all sending slow LACP updates, the Junipers are sending fast LACP updates (but the Cisco they connect with is responding with slow LACP updates).
I have a couple of questions:
1) what are the pros and cons of slow vs fast updates? my research has led me to the conclusion that fast updates are better for network resiliency as long as you have plenty of bandwidth overhead (which I do at the moment). is there anything to add to this conclusion?
2) is there any way to configure the Cisco 3750s for fast updates?
We've recently inherited a platform with little handover and also minimal networking experience.We're going 100 miles an hour in learning, but I'm a bit confused with the idea of a L2 switch with no IP assignments to ports, so using VLANs, and a L3 switch with IP assignments. And the combination of both.We have 2 Cisco 3750 switches, along with a whole host of other hardware, so we're starting at this "gateway" to start breaking things down.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've read the document (Document ID: 91672) on setting up WoL, but I had a few questions as this doesn't completely fit our situation.We have 4 3560 switches, 3 have only access to vlan 1, SW4 has access to vlan 1 and vlan 2, every switch is connected by fiber to a 3750.We want to enable every server/PC on vlan 2 to allow WoL packets to all PC's on the internal network (so WoL through all 5 switches). In the above document, it allows WoL to be executed only from a single IP/Server, is it possible to allow an entire vlan to execute WoL? or allow multiple IP's to execute WoL? Also, in the switch configuration it says to type
-"switchport mode access"
-"switchport access vlan4"
-"spanning-tree portfast"
We do not use STP and is disabled, is portfast required for WoL use? if Port Fast is disabled by default, could this also be blocking a WoL packet from vlan2 to vlan1 on the same switch?
I've to enable it on 3750 and nexus 7K switches. what are the steps involved? can we enable jumbo frame per port instead of enabling globally? i.e. we will only have few ports that will be using jumbo frames, rest of the ports will be using default 1500 MTU size.

how can we get cisco to come up with a way for access switches to be stacked over fiber similar to above supervisor? i know of few of my site that would benefit from this...maybe they can come up with a vss appliance, similar to a media converter, to convert stackwise over fiber...then of course, you would need the same appliance on the other end....
I currently have a stack of 3750G switches with a cross stack etherchannel connected to a 3750E stack in the distribution layer.The 3750G stack is running 15.0-2SE IP Base. I began noticing the Mac flap issue when I was Re-enabling dot1x on the switchports. As first I thought dot1x maybe have contributed to this so I removed it from the stack temporarily.I am still seeing Mac flap logs usually when a machine reboots or re-connects back to the network. These are all wired desktops.I started looking at the etherchannel configuration which is using LACP. The 3750E stack looks fine with all ports in mode active. On the problematic 3750G stack I noticed 3 of the ports in the etherchannel set to mode active and 1 port set to mode passive. The port shows as bundled but I can't imagine this is ok.The only other difference on this one port is there is no mls qos commands like on the other 3 interfaces in the port channel.I mainly need to know what the Mac flapping is about. Whether it is a bug or related to the current etherchannel configuration.

Will I be able to utilize VPC through a bundled 2 or 4 x 10G (40G) connection (10 or 20G on 1 switch, and 10 or 20G on another switch) from the stacked HP E3800s to the N5548s? I know you can do that with Cisco 3750s.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two 3750x stacked switches , both with the latest firmware on them. I enter the configuration onto one switch and it obviously copies over onto the other switch. Although in the configuration I have both a console username and password and an enable password, when I try to log onto the initial switch that I entered the configuration on, I am prompted for a username and password, which works fine, but when I try to enter enable mode i get an error stating that no password has been set. However when logging onto the other switch I am not prompted for a username or password but when I try to enter enable mode I am prompted for a password and can access it with no problems.

From my understanding these switches come with the ipbase license as default, and the other switch I received (3750X-24P-S) has this license loaded with no issues.
Am attempting to load a new license on a 24 Port 3750X. Was LANBase code, need to get it to IPBase. Have the license file. Have put it on the flash drive. Running "license install flash:" i get the message "%Error reading flash: (is a directory)%Error: License installation failed with error: XML parsing failed"The license installation instructions are a bit cryptic so I could be messing it up. However, every variation I can think of is not working. The command listed above gets the most "promising" results.

I am using Cisco 4510 Switch with Default LAN Base image. Now I have purchased 10G Upgrade license. The part number for Upgrade license is WS-C4500-10G-LIC. I have received a CD from Cisco (named as 'Includes License and Warranty'). Any License upgradation is required for this license? Or this is only a paper License.
I could not find out any .lic file on the CD. Also there is no paper with PAK.
I am having a ws-3750x-12s-s switch . I want to upgrade it from ipbase to ip service. after installing ip service liciense file, when i gave command " show license detail" i found there 3 index . one is for ip base -active (permanent) ..2nd is for ip service-active(permanent) 3rd is again ip service but inactive( period 8weeks 2days) , then i cleared 1st one by giving command "clear ipbase" and reboot. but still 2 index .both for ipservice one is permanent-active another is inactive . so my question is how can i remove 2nd index which one is inactive and time period for 8weeks and 2days..?? becasue i don't need it. and it will make any problem in future ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am bringing up a 3750x and a 2911 to replace a 3745 router with switchport module. I was plannng on moving all the VLAN interfaces off the 3745 onto the 3750x and turning up EIGRP. I discoved the 3750 has the LAN Base license, so I can't run eigrp off of it. My question or worry now is, will the LAN base license prevent the switch from doing interface VLAN routing between the different VLAN's configured on it or will I have keep all the VLAN interfaces on the new router and just have a router on a stick setup?

I did so by getting the temporary upgrade license from LAN Base to IP Services; I added the switch no problem. I now have the permanent license and I was wondering if I could install the permanent license without having to remove the switch from the stack. I tried a license install but that failed. The switch is not currently the master but I figured I might promote it and then try the install.
