Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 Keeps Booting Into Roman

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4506 Switch Is Not Booting With New IOS

Apr 7, 2012

Yesterday I've faced a Problem that is not letting me boot with the new IOS.

Actually I'm planning upgrade IOS which supports SSH. As part of plan I've downloaded the new IOS image and uploaded via TFTP server to the switch.

After uploading to the switch. I've verified image and MD5 hash also. Everthing is fine. Then after I set the boot variable for the newly uploaded Image.

When I'm rebooting the Device it is not taking the new IOS. It's booting with the OLD image. Even It's not showing any error message while rebooting (ACTIVITY FILE ATTACHED FOR YOUR REFERENCE) I can't take risk by deleting the old IOS.

restarted as normal

I've tried powering-off the switch and pressing the Mode button and power on. I got to swtch: mode switch:reset

It restarted past the POST but just hang halfway at the same bootp-up process as shown on the attached. The SYST LED is Green color when it hangs.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: SG200- 8 Is Not Successfully Booting

Oct 25, 2012

I bought a CISCO SG200-18 switch. I added the Switch to my LAN and started the Switch (as described in the manual). The Switch starts the booting procedure (green blinking status LED) After a while, the LED starts to blink orange and green, instead of steady green.

In generally the Switch seems to work. I can access my whole network, but not the web interface of the switch itself. I also can't see the switch in the ADSL / DHCP rooter.

I also tried to boot the switch only connected to the PC. But ping on 192.198.1.254 is not working. The switch is in the same subnet like my other LAN components.

   Subnetzmaske  . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

I exchanged the switch. But the new switch shows the same behavior.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560X Not Booting And No Lights Except On PS Module

Mar 3, 2013

I have a brand new 3650x switch that I was configuring via console and left it on overnight; this was friday night  ( I forgot to keep the air conditioner on).  When I returned Sunday afternoon and checked the switch I realized that the SYS and STAT lights on the front were not on, however the Leds on the PS module were still on.  I powered it down and turn it on again but still there are no lights on the front.  The PS OK and AC OK leds on the PS module are on but I noticed the leds on the two fan modules are not green or even amber; they are off. When I first turned on the switch I remembered distinctly that there were loud noice and if all fans were in overdrive mode for a few seconds then the went  to normal.  I'm not gettgin this loud noise phenomenom.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 4506 / Routing For Internal And Guest Network

Dec 19, 2011

I am implementing a guest wireless network to work alongside my internal network. The guest network will use the existing switching network and will be separated by VLANs. I have the ASA set so that traffic can get to it and out to the Internet. I can set up a workstation on the same VLAN as my guest network and can route inside my network (strictly doing this for testing purposes). Where I am having problems is with the Catalyst 4506 switches and the ip routing. I had two separate "ip route" statements defined on my switches.

ip route 10.200.2.0 255.255.255.0 10.200.2.254
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.100.100.254

I have discovered that the traffic is always following the default route despite the fact that my IP address on my test workstation falls in the 10.200.2.x network.  I was looking at documentation and found that it is possible to set up policy-based routing on the core switches. Can you have two "ip route" statements defined like this to segreate traffic or do I have to use PBR for routing (or a combination) in this case? If I define PBR then how does that impact my existing routing? I need to make sure that I can still route the existing traffic while I'm configuring this change.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 891W ISR - Can't Access Internal AP

Jan 26, 2012

I have an 891W router that requires a firmware update to fix a bug wth the internal AP where all you get when accessing it via the CP Express ("Launch Wireless Application", which is  just opening another web browser to your AP) is an Enter button.  This issue seems to be common so I found a thread, though for the 881W (but same process) where the fix is to update the AP's firmware.

So I downloaded ap801-rcvk9w8-tar.124-21a.JY.tar from cisco.com, set it up in my tftp server, and at the console ran the following from the router:

Router#service-module wlan-ap 0 session <enter>

This brings me to the AP.

I then type in:

InternalAP#archive download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp://192.168.0.71/filename.tar <enter>

It seems to go through the process of re-imaging the fw but the end result now after it is done is that I cannot access the ap at all and the hostname has been screwed up.  So now when I go to the AP (via Router#service-module wlan-ap 0 session <enter>), this is what I see:

AP6400.f177.d0ee>

If I type "enable", I get no username prompt but I do get a password prompt, however my pw no longer works.  Also the IP address of the AP (192.168.0.2=) is no longe rpingable.

I did save the log of the console session for the (failed??) firmware upgrade process - the only odd thing I recall was that it seemed like it was trying to enter part of the update process commands but instead the router was interpreting them as a DNS lookup or something.  Kind of stupid process it seems but anyway I am quite lost.  Don't know what it'ssuch a challenge to update firmware.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: (10.10.50.0 / 24) - After Applying ACL / Unable To Hit Internal Web Server

Apr 7, 2013

This isn't a big deal as the rest of the ACL works fine, but this is an annoynace since the web auth redirects to our company website (internal for now) after successful login. We have a Cisco WLC that provides access to our production and guest wireless environments.  The guest environment of course is in a separate vlan (10.10.50.0/24).  So I created this ACL:

access-list 107 permit udp any host 10.10.2.13 eq bootpc <----internal DHCP server
access-list 107 permit udp any host 10.10.2.13 eq bootps
access-list 107 deny ip any 10.10.0.0 0.0.255.255 <---all internal networks
access-list 107 deny ip any 172.28.16.0 0.0.0.255 <----DR Network
access-list 107 permit ip any any
int vlan 50
Desc "Guest wireless network"
ip access-group 107 in

This ACL basically gives the wireless guests access to an internal DHCP server and full access to the internet.  For the 10.10.50.0/24 scope, the DHCP server assigns Internet DNS servers and my rationale is that wireless clients would access it via the external IP address but I suppose it doesn't work quite like that with the website being behind the same router as the client machines.

We assumed that it may be a configuration issue with openview, however after running diagnostics with a network analyzer, the same ip address for the down interface is still detected. Is this some sort of internal virtual interface on the SUP7?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2621 - Unable To Ping Internal Interface

Dec 3, 2011

I've got a 2621 configured as my main gateway to the internet - right now it's obtaining a DHCP ip from a the ISP's proprietary router set to bridged mode.

As of now, I'm unable to ping the internal interface of the router.  I can ping external IP's only, even though I have DNS servers listed, i am unable to resolve host names.  I'm running a few servers to which people are able to connect to my web server, among other services.  I even have a crypto map setup to another 2621 across the country and can ping all internal ips on the other end... I JUST CANNOT PING THE INTERNAL INTERFACE of the router!!

I've noticed that when I ping the router during it's boot process (using linux un-interupted) I get a response in a very short window, then dies again.  I'll post my config below:

Cisco Switching/Routing :: CR3845 Internal Switch Trying To Configure 2 Ports On Same Subnet

Sep 6, 2012

Have our public IP address space masked on /24 at our Internet Router.  The router portion of 3845 connects to Internet, while the internal switch connects to my internal network and seeds it with the public address space.  The switch had a port configured no switchport (L3) with an ip address with /24  (ie 67.63.145.1 /24)  this connects to internal IPS/IDS then to Firewall which NATs to internal, then packet shaper, web filter etc etc etc.  I need to test my ISP speed so I need to "break in" to the link between the switch and the IPS/IDS.  I figured I could configure another port on the switch on the 3845 but my problem is the port to my network is routed and is masked on entire /24.  I tried to configure a port on VLAN 1 and give myself an available address in the L3 address space and this did not work (figured it would not but gave it a try)

Any way to get two ports configured to use the same subnet while one is a L3 routed port and the other is just part of that layer 3 routed network?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ASA 5505 - Dynamic And Static Internal Hosts Setup

Nov 21, 2012

I'm working on setting up a template configuration for the Cisco ASA 5505 device that we'll use to configure more routers for various client needs. One of the requirements requested of me is the following: Internal hosts assigned a DHCP address are blocked from the internet Internal hosts with a static IP are permitted access to internet All internal hosts can communicate regardless of state

Now, I'm fairly new to this and I'm certain my terminology isn't correct so googling the problem has been fruitless. I have followed basic configuration guides and have configured the device to hand out DHCP addresses to hosts plugged in ports 1-7. If I'm plugged in and specify my address manually in the OS I am blocked from any access so I can only assume there is an access policy or some rule preventing me from authenticating against the router despite having set up VLAN1 to be the entire class C subnet. What sort of steps would I need to do to configure this? New access lists. For the record, the dhcp addresses are in the range of 10.100.31.64-10.100.31.95. VPN users are assigned an address from 10.100.31.220-10.100.31.240 and there seems to be no issues with that configuraiton. I don't wish to constrain what addresses a user can use should they specify a static IP (10.100.31.5 should be just as valid as 10.100.31.100).
