Cisco Switching/Routing :: Interface Gi On SMES3G-24P 3925
Jun 27, 2010
I just receive a new Cisco 3925 with a etherswitch module 24 port :
SM-ES3G-24-P,I successfully boot the switch module and gain access to it.
I found some documentation on CCO but I don't sorted out this small information :,
Switch#sh cdp neig Capability Codes: R - Router, T - Trans Bridge, B - Source Route Bridge S - Switch, H - Host, I - IGMP, r - Repeater, P - Phone, D - Remote, C - CVTA, M - Two-port Mac Relay
Device ID Local Intrfce Holdtme Capability Platform Port IDRouter Gig 0/26 143 R S I CISCO3925 Gig 2/0Switch#
The Router is connected to the switch module via a HIMI :
The Cisco enhanced EtherSwitch service modules also provide a physical Gigabit Ethernet serializer/deserializer integrated circuit transceiver (HIMI) interface. In the Cisco 2900 series and Cisco 3900 series routers, the HIMI link on the Cisco enhanced EtherSwitch service modules is connected to the router internal Gigabit Ethernet backplane. This link is used for interconnection between other interface cards or network modules attached to the router Gigabit Ethernet backplane bypassing the router host CPU; thus, increasing CPU performance by decreasing CPU processing.
If I do a sh ip int brief on the switch, I have 26 interface but only 24 are physicaly present on the front. The type of the 0/25 and 0/26 are the same : media type is 1000BaseXThe interface gi 0/26 is up up but the 0/25 is down down.

I just barely put in a Cisco 3925 on our network. I've configured gigabitethernet 0/2 to live on our management VLAN with an IP address of 10.129.0.31/16. I did a "no shut" on the interface. Everything should be ready to allow me to ping and/or SSH to that interface but I can't. It's really weird because I've done this a thousand times (at least on ASAs). I must be missing something. At any rate, the default gateway of the management VLAN is 10.129.0.1. I can ping that from the router. I can also ping that from my laptop (which lives on a completely different VLAN). But I can't ping the router from my laptop or vice versa.

I have a question regarding the 3925 router. In the past on my old 3660's, in order to add a new line to an ACL, I would have to remove the entire ACL and readd it when adding new ACL lines to the list. Is this required on the 3925's, or is it like the ASA 5520's where you can just add an ACL any 'ol time without having to remove/add the entire ACL list?

I have a 3925 Router with a 48 port switch module (part number SM-D-ES3G-48-P). I have no problem accessing the 3925 Router, but when I go into the 48 port, I get an error that reads
Error Hardware not supported by firmware. Try loading a newer software instead. System Resetting...
I know that the wrong IOS is installed on the switch, but the problem is that this is an endless loop. The switch resets then comes back to the same error. How to get the switch out of this loop so that I can load the correct IOS.

I have a Cisco ASA 5505 and I have my internal and external interfaces configured but I currently cannot ping from the inside to an IP Address on the outside. I had this setup and working and I have another set of equirement that I am replacing that is working with my service provider so I know it is a configuration issue. When I ping 4.2.2.2 for example I get:
Destination host unreachable
Do I need to add a static route from my inside interface to my outside interfaces?

I have a new Cisco 3925 router. I have 2 network segments 10.0.1.X with net mask 255.255.255.0 and 10.0.2.x woith netmask 255.255.255.0. I have an internet gateway router at 10.0.1.21. I have set GBethernet 0/0 to 10.0.1.1 / 255.255.255.0 and GBethernet 0/1 to 10.0.2.1 / 255.255.255.0. I have set a static route 0.0.0.0 / 0.0.0.0 to 10.0.1.21 for gateway of last resort.
When I setup a workstation on the 10.0.2.X segment at 10.0.2.100 wirh a gateway of 10.0.2.1, I can ping 10.0.2.1 and 10.0.1.1 but can not ping anything else on the 10.0.1.X network or on the internet. When I am connected to the console port on the router I can ping 10.0.1.1 and 10.0.2.1 and 10.0.1.21 and any address in the internet but I can not ping 10.0.2.100.
When I am on a network connected to the 10.0.1.x network af 10.0.1.100 I can ping 10.0.1.1 and 10.0.2.1 and 10.0.1.21 and anywhere on the internet but can not ping 10.0.2.100 or any other address on the 10.0.2.x network other than 10.0.2.1. What Do I need to do on the 3925 to get to all address on each segment and to get to the 10.0.1.21 gateway from the 10.0.2.x addresses?

We currently installed a 100Mbps fiber line with Ethernet hand-off. I purchased a Cisco 3925 ISR to be the gateway for this connection. I am not going to use it for any security purposes. I have an ASA5520 that will do that work. Right now I am currently just trying to get the router online.
I know the following
Laptop <--->GB 0/1((()))GB0/0<---->Ethern
et handoff from ISP.
I can ping and SSH to the outside interface of the router from outside the network. I can also ping and SSH to the router from the laptop that is directly attached to the routers GB0/1 port. From the Router's CLI I can ping IP addresses on the internet. From the laptop I can not. I can not access the internet through the router though. Here is my config.Building configuration...

Quick question here. Using 3750E series switches with multiple VLANS configured. These switches serve as our 'core'. I have SVIs configured for the different VLANs and add inbound ACLs in each of the SVIs to control traffic between VLANS. This switch also terminates a P2P Ethernet link which connects to our Colo facility. The port used for this is configured as an L3 port. I noticed today that I was able to send traffic across this L3 link that I thought should have been blocked by an ACL I had in place but it wasn't. So the traffic flowed from a port in say VLAN 20 across this L3 link (assigned with an IP address). Would this traffic flow not cause traffic to be checked against an ACL applied in the inbound direction on the SVI of VLAN 20 (int vlan 20)? Traffic does get checked when routing between SVIs. Why would it not get checked when routing between SVI and L3 interface?

We got a layer3 switched network, with one vlan for every switch, routed by a cat4006. [code] So can we put some ports on different switches in, let`s say vlan 50, with different ips? For example, Port 0/3 on Switch 1 and 0/8 on Switch 2, but keeping the ip of the "old" vlan? Or is it necessary to configure a specified vlan interface with ip-adress for every vlan if i want to route it?

Is it possible to use V LAN's and V LAN Interfaces on the router and switch to somehow emulate a second interface to connect to a WAN or sub net?

I notice strange input rates on the interfaces of a 881 router:
show int fa4
..
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit/sec, DLY 100 usec
..
30 second input rate 85000 bits/sec, 11 packets/sec
30 second output rate 16000 bits/sec, 9 packets/sec
221434 packets input, 287889736 bytes
..
..
142286 packets output, 15683576 bytes, 0 underrun
How can 11 packets/sec be 85000 bits/sec -- average packet size of 8KB?. The total packets input (221434 packets versus 287+ MB) also shows this kind of a 10KB+ average packet size. There is ahardly any traffic through the router when the above snapshot was taken so 11 packets/sec sounds right, but not the 85Kbits/sec.
The router is running c880data-universalk9-mz.151-4.M4.bin and config is simple with a single Vlan (inside NAT) with a public IPs on fa4 and a couple of IPs for dynamic NAT. Everything works fine except for these interface counters that look worng.

There is some way to increase the speed of changing the interface state from DOWN to UP when the cable is connected. I need to configure a port of Cisco 4503 in a way that when a cable is connected the port goes immediatly UP.
A solution can be to keep Cisco interface always UP and I remember that with "no keepalive" command to the interface configuration it was possible. But I tried and nothing happens.

Got a shiny new SG 200 26P which seems to work fine operationally.owever, when I am trying to access the web interface from a different IP subnet, the web brower just times out.If I put my PC on the same IP subnet, it works just fine. From the other subnet, I can ping the switch fine. The default gateway is set on the switch, and from the web interface I can ping and dns resolve other hosts and on the internet. I've tried to create a management profile to 'allow all from everywhere' basically, but still no luck.I'm completely stumped. I've tried to reset to firmware defaults, and I'm now runinng the latest firmware. I woudl suppose that the switch would allow itself to be managed via the web interface from all subnets by default. Any thoughts? The fact that the switch can ping internet hosts makes be believe it's own default gateway and IP are all ok and working.. (and I can ping it from anywhere in my network).

I have a CISCO2921. I am not able to bring up its gi0/1 interface. It stays down down.

I know that interface is not coming up because of "no media" below. Router#sh int gi0/1 | i media Auto Duplex, Auto Speed, media type is no media
I have tried media rj-45 and media sfp which have also not worked. The other end of this link is ethernet handoff. What is it that I have to do for the link to come up? If I change the connection to gi0/2, I think that will work because I see this for gi0/2:
Router#sh int gi0/2 | i media Auto Duplex, Auto Speed, media type is RJ45

I am in the process of staging a couple of two new Cisco ASR 1004's which are located at two locations with a WAN link in between. I need to set up connectivity between servers plugged directly into each ASR router across the WAN link. The ASR has 16 gig interfaces (gi0/0/0 - gi0/0/7 and gi0/1/0 - gi 0/1/7), and a management interface (gi0). I have connected the WAN link to gi0/0/0 and put an ip address on it. The servers will be plugged into the remaining gig interfaces. I tried to create an SVI (vlan interface) in an attempt to create an L3 interface to support routing to these servers but these routers don't allow SVI's to be created. how to put these server connected ports on a vlan and to create an L3 interface to provide routing to them?

I have Comcast as my ISP and their Small Business Gateway Router/Firewall. I purchased a WRVS4400N and configured them like this:
Comcast Router/Firewall - 10.1.10.1
Cisco WRVS4400N - 10.1.11.1
I turned DHCP off on the Cisco so that wireless devices that connect to it get a 10.1.10 address from the Comcast device. Now, I am completely unable to connect to the web interface of the Cisco, whether connected to it wirelessly or even if I plug directly into one of the LAN ports on it. I have one of the LAN ports on the Cisco connected to one of the LAN ports on the Comcast. What am I missing here?
