Cisco Switching/Routing :: C3560X-24T-S And SFP-10G-ER - No Link
Jul 31, 2012I got a pair of new C3560X-24T-S switches with C3KX-NM-10G modules, and am trying to get a long distance 10G link up using 3rd party SFP-10G-ER SFPs (XGIGA with Cisco coded IDPROMs)I've enabled use of unsupported transcievers with the following commands:service unsupported-transceiver no errdisable detect cause gbic-invalidAfter that the switches accepts the SFPs but I get no light (sh int trans shows Tx -40), but if I insert a supported SFP first and then switches to my ER SFPs I get them to start transmitting, however I still don't LINK on the interface.I've tried with both 12.2(55)SE3 (that the switches came with) and 15.0(1)SE3 with same results.I know SFP-10G-ER SFPs are not supported on these switches, but are scheduled for the 15.0(2) release, but I was under the impression that they should already work using the above commands to enable the use of unsupported SFPs.So my question is basically: Is the new code in 15.0(2) really needed to make ER SFPs work, so I should just wait for that release, or are my 3rd party SFP simply broken/un-compatible with these switches?Also, could reprogramming them to look like SFP-10G-LR SFPs, which are supported, make any difference, or should it already have worked now with service unsupported-transceiver enabled if they were compatible?

Cisco C2901 as our Main Router
Cisco UC520 as Communication Platform
Cisco C3560x as Core-Switch
VLAN 10 : Data
VLAN 100 : VOICE
Everything is working but i m not sure if the switchport config is right in that way.
As an example :
interface GigabitEthernet 0/6
switchport access vlan 10
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 100
spanning-tree portfast
When we connect an Cisco 7971g and an pc everything is working fine. But when i start wireshark on the pc behind the phone you see a lot of UDP Traffic source UC520 destination 239.10.16.8 or 239.10.16.16. At this point i m getting confused. So i start looking for the cisco phone config, VLAN ID on the phone is 100 (i think that is ok) but the PC-VLAN part is empty?
The main thing is, how can i stop this cisco-sccp traffic on the pc port (prtg shows me a average of 200 kbit/s) i think it is an config fault.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: C3560X Status LED Not Working Properly?
Dec 12, 2011I have recently installed 4 3560 (WS-C3560X-48T-S) Switches. At first the switch comes up, indicating all connected ports with a green LED. Whenever i unplug a cable and plug it back in, the status LED will stay off. The same thing happens when I push the mode button and cycle throgh the different modes, i lose certain LEDs.
I'm using 12.2(53)SE2, another user reported the same issues under 12.2(55)SE1 .

Apr 24, 2013I have a WS-C3560X-24 and attached to that are some 9 acces switches, for some weeks now my 3560 reboots some time what couse that the other 9 switches are down for some minuts as well and i dont want this of course. the reboot happens at random times and some times one week not and then like yesterday afternoon it rebooted again.
when i check the Flash directory there is no crash file and when i look at the logging its clean and just shows the startup. it's not the powersuply it's redundend and more L3 switches are attached to this power source and they dont reboot.

Nov 5, 2011just got new hardware and decided to try the newer USB port for IOS upgrades. I could not get the switch to recognize my 2gig flash drive. Do I need a proprietary stick or special format?
I also noticed when I removed it the switches crash dump and rebooted?

Dec 10, 2012I am trying to configure Cisco SG300-52 switch for the first time and stuck without CLI configuration option. The configuration can be done using GUI, however, configuring using CLI would be more comfortable (as I am used to work with CLI of other Cisco switches)..
I was able to lo gin to switch using SSH, but the CLI appears in MENU format and was not able to find any way to go to CLI mode.
As per some blogs, in SG300 switches CLI mode can be accessed using Ctrl + Z in Menu, which did not work either in my case.
Switch is running with latest firmware version Sx300 Firmware Version 1.2.7.76.

Oct 27, 2011In RFC 951, the format of BOOTP packet was legislated, but the vendor information was not legislated in this document, so the authors of this document had described that :"If the 'vend' field is used, it is recommended that a 4 byte 'magic number' be the first item within 'vend'. This lets a server determine what kind of information it is seeing in this field. "
I think it meant that the format of vendor information wasn't fixed in RFC 951, and any vendor can legislate a new format of vendor information by itself. And the value in "magic cookie" can be set by any vendor.But in RFC 2131, the format of DHCP packet was legislated, and the "magic cooke" was fixed to values 99, 130, 83 and 99, I think it meant that the format of option information in DHCP packet was fixed absolutely and any vendor can't legislate a new format by itself.
Since the format of option information in DHCP packet was fixed absolutely, why the network device needs "magic cookie" to identify the mode in which the succeeding data is to be interpreted ? I think the magic cookie is not useful in DHCP packet because the format of option information is fixed. In other words, there is only one format of option information forever.

Nov 29, 2012I ran into problem with design that was prepared for Catalyst 6500, but in the meantime infrastructure got upgraded to Nexus. I have two datacenters connected with 1Gbit line (point-point), both ends of this circuit are N7K. There are few segments (like LAN, DMZ, PUBLIC) in separate VRFs in each DC and intention was to carry over these segments between locations using VPNv4 exchange via BGP. Each location have its own AS number and IPv4 BGP session is running between them (for global routing table at the moment). I tried to add VPNv4 to that peering session, but got message it is not supported in NX-OS for eBGP. Tried to find some more info about such limitation, but failed.
Before I start explore other options like Option A (creating subinterfaces per VRF and running separate IPv4 BGP session in each).

Feb 6, 2012We have 2 x C6506E and 2 x C3560-48's, they are all interconnected via port channels at 2Gb per channel. The 6506's are running CEF but the 3560's are not (The 3560's carry all our server traffic).When I do a show CEF on the 3560's it says %IPv4 CEF not running. There does not appear to be a global command to enable CEF on these switches.Is this an IOS version option or is not supported on the hardware platform?

Apr 3, 2012Have a client wanting to hand out public ip addresses to all clients from a PFSense Firewall terminating the internet connection.
How do I allow the Cisco Switches currently in place, configured with private ip addresses in the 10.10.x.x ranges and Vlans, where the main 3550 layer 3 has defined dhcp scopes for each vlan, to relay dhcp requests from all vlans to the PFSense firewall?
I assume I would take off the currently defined dhcp scopes for the vlans and configure each vlan/switch with the ip helper address and specify the PFSense firewall and that Nat would have to be disabled onthe firewall?

Looking at the best option to detect attempts at cracking our SIP servers. We see connections from scanners on the internet trying to brute force SIP passwords reasonably often, and would like to be alerted to them happening. Essentially we see hundreds of SIP registration attempts or Invites from the same IP, and this is how we know it is dodgy.
