Cisco WAN :: Replace Modem With 2621 Router With WIC-1ADSL Module
Dec 26, 2012
I have a Cisco ASA5505 with Frontier ADSL. I broke into their crappy little modem and obtained the settings needed to replace their modem with a 2621 router with a WIC-1ADSL module. I have a static IP from Frontier which is on my ASA5505 and the Dialer interface on the 2621 gets its address from Frontier via DHCP. There are devices behind the ASA which I need access while in the field, IP Cameras, Seed Treater, etc., so I have Anyconnect running on the ASA and can access everything from my laptop, iPhone and iPad from whereever. The issue arises when my laptop is in house and communicating with my parent company and I try to make a cell phone call off the network extender. The call is choppy since there is no QoS and the data is strangling the voice. Since I have control over the 2621, I added another network and NAT it into Frontier without them knowing. I have since placed the network extender on this network as well as a WAP200 that is wide open for my customers when they are in the office. Doesn't fix the problem but...
I have now added Evertek Wireless internet with a static IP also but they use a reservation based on the MAC Address of my interface of the ASA. This plugs directly intot the ASA via ethernet (I would assume their antenna is just a wireless bridge). I set route tracking on the Evertek side and use the Frontier as a backup and all devices on my NAT network still funcion on Frontier DSL and all my nornal data traffic is out Evertek. The issue is that the Evertek Wireless is not very fast or reliable (today in during a snow storm, it could barely keep an internet connection). And I had a problem with Anyconnect using either connection. I got that working. But think that the "ip address x.x.x.x y.y.y.y dhcp setroute" on the Evertek side messed things up from a routing standpoint when I would connect from the outside on the Frontier side. For testing, I switched the tracking around and now the connection on the Frontier side does not work but that is besides the point.
Frontier is going to try out an ADSL/2 connection next week which brings up another issue; all Frontier connections come into my buidling on a single 4-pair wire so if they go down, all my internet except the Evertek goes down. I have a Raven Slingshot coming for installation shortly that cannot go down; it will provide RTK (sub-inch accuracy GPS) to my customers that have auto-steer and auto-shutoff capabilities in their tractors via cellular data modem. So, while they are planting their crops in the field, if my connection goes down, their tractor will not function.
I also had a Cisco UC320W but it died a few days after it went off warranty so I replaced it with a Dell Server running 3CX IP PBX that supports Cisco SPA525G2 and SPA501G IP Phones. There is a 3CX iPhone app that allows me to receive calls while in the field, it uses a proprietary tunnel that I have open on the ASA. With 4-pair coming into my building, I will be left with a single 1-pair for phones so I am considering a SIP provider instead.
Can/should I move the Evertek ethernet to the third ethernet interface on the 2621 and track the Frontier DSL against the Evertek (backup) on the 2621 side and use the ASA to track the ADSL/2 against the 2621? Should I acquire an 1841 (or some other device that suppports the HWIC) with a ADSL/2 card and use HSRP between the 2621 and 1841? Is that even possible?
install a new N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router - Model DGND3700, to replace a Thompson Speedtouch USB Modem.
PC Windows XP Home Premium Media addition - Main PC X2 Laptops Win7 & Vista - fully working on wireless no issues.
I have managed to get two laptops working wirelessly with no problems, my main problem is the master pc needs to be able to use this router as well, but I cannot get it to work via the Ethernet cable!! I can get to to the Routers config page, I have done the following:
unplugged and removed the speedtouch modem, the old dial up connection is still available on the pc along with the speedtouch software and driver, I left this in place just in case the pc needs to revert back to the speedtouch modem, if I am unable to resolve this issue.
I have set the ip address on the PC to static and input the relavent Subnet and Gateway I can ping the Routers address 192.168.0.1 even though I have reserved the PC's Mac address and IP Adress I am unable to get to the internet. I have tried setting up a new internet connection via windows wizard.
when i look into the nework connections section in windows the local area connection is 100mb and there seems to be another connection which looks like another internet connection this indicates I am connected however I still cannot get an actual google session running.
What is the difference between HWIC-1ADSL-M and HWIC-1ADSL without the "-M"?Can either of the above ADSL cards be used in Cisco 3845 router? We are using HWIC-1ADSL-M in our Cisco 3845 routers everywhere?
I think that my ISP is throttling my bandwidth at the modem . how access full available bandwidth. When the technician installed the fibre optic line and then the modem, he showed me an amazing 77MB/s (about 600Mbps) before the modem!!But after the technician left these were the test results after the router:
1) SpeedTests.net:
averages, after router, show: UP between 56/60Mbps & DN 45/75Mbps
2)Local Server Speed Test:
average: UP 45Mpbs & DN 170Mbps
A Japanese Internet savvy guy explained that NTT East throttles the available bandwidth at the building by specific apartment/modem settings related to individual contract bundles. I signed up for the top bundle: TV, Phone and Internet connections. This is my Hardware/ software setup:
OS: Win7,
Line specs: Line type: IEC60874-14 Connector type: SC Core across: 9 micrometers Clad across: 125 micrometers ITU-TG-652 NTT East fibreoptic TV/Internet/Telephone bundle (100Mbps best effort) Hikari Next Family Type but 10Mbps is considered within parameters Asahi ISP Internet contract
Modem: GE-PON (WAN+Coaxial TV antenna) "SCM-GE-PON-<H>A GV-ONU D<1>" model
Router: RT-S300HI (4 Giga ports + 1 phone)
Router & Modem have Japanese firmware which I cannot understand and, according to the NTT East, I must rent both modem and router from them and "will not support any other modem/router setup".I could not understand if it was because of technical or contractual limits.
I have tried to test my throughput after the modem but I could not figure out where the DNS, IP, WAN etc strings of numbers should go and, in the end, I simply cannot connect to the internet from my laptop directly to the modem so I cannot perform the same speed tests after the modem.
Here is my current config build for a Cisco 2620 using a Wic-1ADSL to connect to a Qwest ADSL ISP:
interface FastEthernet0/0 ip address 172.16.0.1 255.255.0.0 ip nat inside no ip mroute-cache
[code]...
For some reason, it won't connect at all. I've changed the callin requirement on the ppp authentication between "callin" to "callout" - even removed the line completely for a no-authentication scenario. The only responses that come back on a repetative nature when doing a debug are:
I’m testing a 1841 with 2 WIC-1ADSL cards, but the connections are dropping every 30-50mins. If I swap the cars out for HWIC-1ADSL’s then the lines are stable. I’ve had the profiles on the lines dropped the 4mb down and 512k up but I’m still getting the same issue.
I’ve tried a few 1841’s with various IOS’s and different WIC’s but still get the same result.
We have open a division in the UK and are using DSL as a back up to a T1-E1, so I was going to use a standard DSL Modem but thought the WiC-1ADSL-I-DG would be better. However I can seem to get the card up and running. Here is the interface config and sh int atm.
interface ATM0/1/0 ip address dhcp ip access-group 102 in ip inspect SDM_LOW out [code]....
The config I am posting is from a 2621 router. This routers Int fa0/0 connects to AT&Ts OPTEMAN 10Mbs Ethernet interface. The other end connects to our HQ router. At HQ is our PRIs and phone switches. I have configured QoS for this router, but don't I have to link them to the ingress interfacce (Int FA0/0)?
I have a cisco 2811 router doing nat on my home network and it works fine.I've connected a cisco 2621 router to the 2811 both have serial T1 cards, I have enabled IP routing on both and have eigrp 1 process running. I can ping and telnet to each router and they are advertising the networks on each other. when i do a traceroute on the 2621 to an outside address or name example [URL]I get no reply.
I have some internet users who listen to online vedio music and and other streamin program so my network goes very slow and bandwidth consumtion is goes very high.in this situation i have no any firewall, how i can stop vedio streaming by cisco 2621 router.i have been configured to stop the bittorrent and it successfully done class-map match-any peer-to-peer match protocol gnutella match protocol kazaa2 match protocol fasttrack match protocol novadigm match protocol edonkey match protocol bittorrent match protocol rtp match protocol rtsp!!policy-map peer-to-peer class peer-to-peer drop?
I need to setup a vlan between the 6509 and 2621 router. This needs to be a VLAN (200) the runs between the devices that uses DOT1Q trunking. The end result is all the networks (vlans) on the 6509 can talk to the LAN on the 2600 (10.133.22.0 / 23) and visa versa.
Device 1 6509 with CatOS / IOS Config I did on the MSFC: Interface Vlan 200 ip address 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.248
My home router is an aging D-Link DGL-4100 and I am looking to replace it.My max budget is ~$250 USD.
I use 2 Ubiquiti Unifi UAP-Pro APs in my home for WIFI access, so I have the WIFI aspect of my home network covered completely. All wiring in my home is either Cat5e or Cat6, my switch is a gigabit HP ProCurve 1810G-24, and my cable modem is a Motorola SB6120 (Comcast cable broadband). I have 7 IP cameras (security system), 4 streaming media players, several PCs, a server, and several other network connected devices. I am the only resident.
I am looking to maximize my WAN to LAN (& LAN to WAN) throughput while maintaining a very secure network. I also want the router to have reliable VPN. If it is a wireless router, I would most likely not utilize the WIFI feature, probably turning off the WIFI radios and just use the router functionality.
I don't have the time/patience to build a PFSense (or similar) box and learn the software, so am only considering an off-the-shelf solution. Yes I know that PFSense and Untangle are great, I simply don't have time to learn them presently or in the foreseeable future. So, which router for wired performance and security would you recommend?
We use a 3825 router to screen alot of the junk from the internet side or our firewall. Its worked well for the last 4 years buthas rebooted multiple times in the last month for no apparent reason. At this point I think I would prefer to replace it.Our current internet link is 100Mbps and this router handles that quite well. Is there an equivalent that I should replace it with, or should I just buy another 3825 ?One with an OOB management port would be nice.
Our one of the Client need to replace CISCO 831 router with high end router , there will be around 60 to 70 users accessing this router for Internet surfing. Right now 831 having 3 Ethernet and 4 Fast Ethernet Ports.
in my lab environment, I have a site-to-site VPN between a Pix515E and Cisco 3845 router, using AES-256/DH-5/SHA for isakmp and AES-256/SHA/PFS group5 for the site-to-site VPN, I can only push about 26Mbps IPSec traffics (tested with Iperf). CPU on the Pix515E is running at 96% utilization
Now if I replace the Pix515E with another Cisco 3845 router, I can push about 100bps. Why such a big difference between the data sheet and actual real world
I had an issue yesterday with no internet access on my desktop computer; the message said "Network cable unplugged" so I called AT&T tech support for assistance. I have 2 Dell computers; a desktop and a laptop which I use wirelessly in the house. After doing several things from disconnecting the router to try and determine if the problem was with my router or an ethernet cable AT&T determined a port on my router which is 6 years old could be going bad and recommended I replace my router.I contacted Linksys yesterday; spoke to tech support for my WRT54G router and was given 2 model recommendations. One was a Model E900 N300 and a more expensive model; an EA2700 N600. There is a price difference of $40.00 USD between the 2 models. I could probably get by with the E900 N300 for $49.99 but the guy at Linksys was putting the pressure on me to buy the more expensive one for $89.99. I told him I'd have to think about it.
I am in the process of trying to replace a modem/router,the switch does not work with the new modem/router although if I connect the modem/router directly to my computer it works fine,so its not a router issue.I suspect that the settings need to be changed in the switch to allow the new router to work ?
I have a Cisco 1921 to replace our current router which is constantly freezing. We have a couple inside servers, one is a web server and application server which needs to be RDP'd to by a couple of clients outside of our network. I cannot get this to work no matter what. I know it's not the server's setup as when I plug the network back into the old router, it works just fine.
All clients have access to the internet, and I can successfully ping/resolve hosts from both the router and a client computer connected. I cannot, however, rdp using neither our public IP, nor our hostname. The hostname does resolve to our ISP assigned IP, but the server cannot be contacted, leading me to belive this is a NAT issue. [code]
I have a 2651 that has an adsl1-wic that I am using as my DSL router. I recently acquired a 2801 that I want to replace the 2651 with. I configured the 2801 the same way as the 2651 but on a reload I get the statement that says
Setup: New interface NVIO placed in shutdown state
When I do a show interface all of the interfaces show up except the NVIO and I don't have any connectivity to the outside world. I am using Nat since I have a /29 and using nat pool overload. What am I missing? I am running IPVOICEK9-M 12.4.25c on the 2651 and adventerprise 12.4.24.T on the 2801
I am looking to replace my current WAG54GS Gateway with the EA6500. Problem is the new one does not have a built in ADSL2+ modem (I am in the UK and my ISP is Demon Internet). I therefore need to purchase a separate Modem to connect to the router.
I need to replace a dying Netgear FWAG114 wireless router, and the E4200 gets good reviews so I've been looking into it. I'm a software developer running 6 servers plus 3 laptops and 5+ other devices (iPad, Wii, Droid phones, BluRay...). I prefer to use a trusted PC list (enter MACs for all trusted devices) rather than WEP or WPA - is this available with the E4200?
I don't need VPN, but I do run a number of web servers, app servers and databases, so port forwarding is important - I notice the E4200 provides port range forwarding and single port forwarding - I assume this replaces the Rules and Services feature in Netgear - right?
Do you see any potential problems, given my needs, in using the E4200?
I own an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC and recently purchased a Cisco E1500 to replace my aging WRTG54 wireless router. Since installation of the new router I keep getting dropped from my LAN and the internet with "connectivity issues" ... this only occurs on my notebook PC and not the other wireless devices I have in my home. I’ve done some searching on the internet and this seems to be a generic problem with the Broadcom 802.11b/g/n card the notebook uses. I have 2 questions: 1) Is there an easy way to adjust either the card or the router to deal with these issues and if not then
2) what is the best notebook card to replace the Broadcom with to assure these issues go away.
i have spent a few hours trying to NAT out a few intenal 192.168.x.x hosts through both my ethernet1/0 interface and also tryed using another IP from the range.
I've got a Cisco 2621 with this IOS image in flash: c2600-i-mz.120-7.bin (the only IOS in flash). When I power up the router, the following errors occur:
open: file "n" not found open(): Open Error = -1 loadprog: error - fileopen boot: cannot load "flash:n"
I have to press "Ctr l" and "break" to enter Roman, there i can use the boot command to start the IOS. Configuration register is set to 0x2102, all running config should be factory default.
What I have to do to boot the IOS directly when i power up my router (without entering Roman mode...)?
Region : Malaysia Model : TD-W8968 Hardware Version : V1 Firmware Version : 0.6.0 1.1 v0005.0 Build 120926 Rel.27100n ISP : TM
I am having difficulty setting up the W8968 to replace the router given by TM for the Unifi connection.I tried updating the firmware of the modem router and used quick setup to configure the device as a wireless router using PPPoE, but still couldn't connect to the internet using the WAN port.I noticed there was a guide for TD-W8960N to set up TM Unifi but the web interface is too different from the W8968 interface.
I have a 2621 with a WIC-1ADSL that connects to my ISP. Since the 2621 has 2 ethernet ports, I wanted to setup a network on the second ethernet port for testing things such as VPN into my network via my ASA5505. I have a DHCP pool set on the particular network but cannot get a client to get an address from the router. I think I might have an ACL that is blocking or need an ACL to allow bootp on the interface. Here is the config:
