Cisco WAN :: 1841 With WIC-1ADSL - ADSL2+ Stability

Jul 30, 2012

I’m testing a 1841 with 2 WIC-1ADSL cards, but the connections are dropping every 30-50mins. If I swap the cars out for HWIC-1ADSL’s then the lines are stable. I’ve had the profiles on the lines dropped the 4mb down and 512k up but I’m still getting the same issue.

I’ve tried a few 1841’s with various IOS’s and different WIC’s but still get the same result.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: IOS Support For HWIC-1ADSL On 1841?

May 14, 2008

I just recently (and very expensively) purchased a HWIC-1ADSL for my 1841 router.

Unfortunately, it doesn't display in the configuration - nor any lights appear on it for power/link.

My first guess is I need to upgrade my IOS.  The current version on my 1841 is 12.4(17).  Which appears to be pretty current.

Cisco WAN :: 877 - Improving DSL ATM Stability

Dec 19, 2010

We have several 877 routers across a few cities and experience infrequent 'drop-out's which are typically characterised by log entries like the example below.

Our biggest problem is that there is a 60-90 second hard-down period rather than just a 1-2 second 'blip' ... and TCP etc. don't cope well with an outage of this duration.

In general the SnR etc. on the links is good and these occurances are quite rare but when they happen it can be very alarming for users and transactions can fail.

configuration (prefereable acheivable at the CPE rather than the DSLAM end) to work:

1. reduce the outage duration... can the interface be instructed to be less sensitive to temporary line noise and just 'suck it up' rather than resynching?

2. improve the stability of the line... perhaps at the cost of a reduced speed?

3. improve logging of the root cause of the interface going 'down'?

Cisco WAN :: 2600 WIC-1ADSL Configuration To Qwest ISP?

Apr 17, 2008

Here is my current config build for a Cisco 2620 using a Wic-1ADSL to connect to a Qwest ADSL ISP:

interface FastEthernet0/0
ip address 172.16.0.1 255.255.0.0
ip nat inside
no ip mroute-cache

[code]...

For some reason, it won't connect at all.  I've changed the callin requirement on the ppp authentication between "callin" to "callout" - even removed the line completely for a no-authentication scenario.The only responses that come back on a repetative nature when doing a debug are:

Vi2 PPP: Authorization NOT required

and

Vi2 PPP: No remote authorization for call-out

D-Link DIR-655 :: Have To Turn Off Wireless N For Stability

Nov 29, 2011

I have version A3 hardware with the latest firmware installed.  When i use wireless N, after transferring a large file from my PC to my NAS over wireless, the router slows to a crawl once the file is done.  The next file i try to transfer moves at about 200-300kB/s as opposed the the previous 8+MB/s.  Watching nextflix and gaming is also slow.  After i unplug and plug back in the router, everything is fine.  It doesn't do it everytime, but does happen often enough to be frustrating.

After experimenting with different wireless N settings, and trust me i've tried like every combination.  I set the router to wireless G only, the transfer speeds are about 2-3MB/s but it always has that speed.  It's been stable for well over a month now.  But i bought an N router, and want faster speeds.  What's the warranty period for this router?

Cisco WAN :: Replace Modem With 2621 Router With WIC-1ADSL Module

Dec 26, 2012

I have a Cisco ASA5505 with Frontier ADSL.  I broke into their crappy little modem and obtained the settings needed to replace their modem with a 2621 router with a WIC-1ADSL module.  I have a static IP from Frontier which is on my ASA5505 and the Dialer interface on the 2621 gets its address from Frontier via DHCP.  There are devices behind the ASA which I need access while in the field, IP Cameras, Seed Treater, etc., so I have Anyconnect running on the ASA and can access everything from my laptop, iPhone and iPad from whereever.  The issue arises when my laptop is in house and communicating with my parent company and I try to make a cell phone call off the network extender.  The call is choppy since there is no QoS and the data is strangling the voice.  Since I have control over the 2621, I added another network and NAT it into Frontier without them knowing.  I have since placed the network extender on this network as well as a WAP200 that is wide open for my customers when they are in the office.  Doesn't fix the problem but...

I have now added Evertek Wireless internet with a static IP also but they use a reservation based on the MAC Address of my interface of the ASA.  This plugs directly intot the ASA via ethernet (I would assume their antenna is just a wireless bridge).  I set route tracking on the Evertek side and use the Frontier as a backup and all devices on my NAT network still funcion on Frontier DSL and all my nornal data traffic is out Evertek.  The issue is that the Evertek Wireless is not very fast or reliable (today in during a snow storm, it could barely keep an internet connection).  And I had a problem with Anyconnect using either connection. I got that working.  But think that the "ip address x.x.x.x y.y.y.y dhcp setroute" on the Evertek side messed things up from a routing standpoint when I would connect from the outside on the Frontier side.  For testing, I switched the tracking around and now the connection on the Frontier side does not work but that is besides the point.

Frontier is going to try out an ADSL/2 connection next week which brings up another issue; all Frontier connections come into my buidling on a single 4-pair wire so if they go down, all my internet except the Evertek goes down.  I have a Raven Slingshot coming for installation shortly that cannot go down; it will provide RTK (sub-inch accuracy GPS) to my customers that have auto-steer and auto-shutoff capabilities in their tractors via cellular data modem.  So, while they are planting their crops in the field, if my connection goes down, their tractor will not function.

I also had a Cisco UC320W but it died a few days after it went off warranty so I replaced it with a Dell Server running 3CX IP PBX that supports Cisco SPA525G2 and SPA501G IP Phones.  There is a 3CX iPhone app that allows me to receive calls while in the field, it uses a proprietary tunnel that I have open on the ASA.  With 4-pair coming into my building, I will be left with a single 1-pair for phones so I am considering a SIP provider instead.

Can/should I move the Evertek ethernet to the third ethernet interface on the 2621 and track the Frontier DSL against the Evertek (backup) on the 2621 side and use the ASA to track the ADSL/2 against the 2621?  Should I acquire an 1841 (or some other device that suppports the HWIC) with a ADSL/2 card and use HSRP between the 2621 and 1841?  Is that even possible?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Network Connection Speed / Stability?

Feb 8, 2011

my old D-link DGL-4300 was rock steady showing 54 Mbps constant speed (link rate) (in Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit Wireless Network Connection Status window).  The new E4200 jumps around from 72 Mbps to 114 Mbps to 130 Mbps to 144 Mbps.  However, it mainly stays at 72 Mbps.  I have seen 150 Mbps briefly but I have never seen 300 Mbps.  I have even placed my laptop within 2 -3 ft of the router and have a strong signal (4 bars) but I still have the same link rate issue.  I would think that Windows would show 300 Mbps link rate for my connection when it is that close to the router.  My laptop is a Toshiba with an integrated Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN wireless adapter.  My son also has a Toshiba laptop with the same wireless adapter but he gets lower speeds than mine due to the fact that he is 50' away in another room in the house.  His connection also jumps around but it is at lower link rates than mine.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GL - Handle Far Distance With Fast Speeds And Stability?

Aug 24, 2012

I have a client family who will be moving into a big one floor (but on a giant slope hill as if it had two floors) house. About 88 feet seems to be the longest distance from a small room with the new cable modem. This is based on Google Maps' aerial shot: [URL] Longest Distance FromACableModemRoom.jpg (right side/east is a huge hill with trees).Will an old wireless Linksys WRT54GL router be able to handle this far distance with fast speeds and stability? If not, then which wireless routers can do it? It would be nice to have third party firmware options like Linksys WRT54GL routers. Also, fast speed like gigabits for fast local file transfers between computers in the big house! 100mb/sec is slow these days! Stability and support are important too. The routers doesn't need to be the latest too

Cisco WAN :: ADSL2+ Configuration On 2800

Dec 28, 2010

We have a customer in the UK, who is starting to deploy ADSL2+ circuits for the new sites they are adding to their BT IPClear MPLS network.We want to standardise with a config for each site, but to date have found that we seem to be using a different config for each site. Some are configured using a dialer interface & some using a virtual template.

Why on some of the sites the virtual template method works & on others we have to configure a dialer interface. Also in regards to the speeds, what should we configure as bandwidth statements & also for traffic shaping. I know that the ADSL2+ circuits can operate at various speeds, but am i right in thinking these higher speeds are the clock rate of the line & with the BT IPClear product, the customer only gets the agreed/paid for bandwidth.

As this figure is different in both directions, when the traffic shaping is configured using vbr-rt command, is the amount entered based on the slower upstream bandwidth on the circuit.

Cisco WAN :: Slow / Unusable ADSL2+ On 877W

Mar 15, 2012

I just bought myself a Cisco 877W in hope that I could touch up on my IOS skills. The configuration went well, however I have found that after configuring the Dot11Radio0 interface, the ADSL2+ has slowed down dramatically. I am still syncing at a decent speed (decent enough for how far I live from the exchange), but web browsing and other internet traffic is horrible. Originally, I was downloading at ~500kb/s, but now I can't even navigate to a website to perform testing. :

I have another ADSL2+ modem which works just fine (using it right now to write this post)

I originally thought this may have been a DNS issue. However, performing an nslookup on various sites from both the router itself and a client PC shows that resolution occurs in only a few seconds. With that said, there are some sites which will load in an instant (Google.com, for example) while others will simply refuse to load. DNS server (Server 2k8) is on the LAN with forwarders to ISP DNS addresses.

Have 2 Routers On The Same ADSL2 Internet Connection

Mar 8, 2013

I currently have a Router that is ADSL2 & VPN capable. It currently allows me to work from home and connect to work servers securely. I have used traceroute [URL] in CMD to determine that all web requests/traffic goes through the VPN server rather than just the requests to access files on the VPN server.I don't feel comfortable having all my traffic now go through work servers(the VPN) so I would like to avoid this. I know I have 2 solutions:- Use Split Tunelling on the router where only requests to files on the VPN server will go through the VPN server, all other traffic is not through the VPN. I have heard that this can compromise the whole network as one node is currently 'unsecured' and can affect/compromise the whole network. Is this true?

- Add a second Router that doesn't connect through the VPN. When I finish work I disconnect from the VPN Routers wireless connection and connect through the second routers wireless connection. I would like to take solution 2 because I wont be compromising the whole network but I have some questions:- Is this something you would recommend?

- Is it dangerous? Is it just as compromising as solution 1?

- In Australia we use physical Phone Splitters for our internet physical connection. One side of the splitter connects to a phone line port on the wall. The other side has 2 ports, one for the phone line connection and one for the router/adsl connection. If I have 2 routers I'll need a splitter that has more than 2 ports so I can connect the 2nd router to the internet. Are there Phone Splitters with more than 2 ports and do ISP's allow me to do this?

Pairing ADSL2+ And Cable For Each-way Fallback

Oct 26, 2011

We have both ADSL2+ and Cable broadband and wish to have them both connected to and accessible on the same network, possibly linked by using the WiFi modem-routers or by adding redundant WiFi modem-routers in bridge mode.The object is to have a seamless each-way fall-back as both broadband feeds have been unreliable in the past, sometimes for weeks at a time and this has had a destructive influence on concurrent college, uni courses and various pocket-money commercial interests.The current situation is to have two separate wired networks running at 100/1000 with limited WiFi access for laptops and mobile device access.All clients would effectively be part of the same workgroup but with a possible future dmz to a small dynamic dns server for non-business convenience and test use. (HTML, PHP, MySQL website development exercises etc.)At present, there are no significant internal security issues within the firewalls provided by the existing modem-routers and there is no significant budget.

TP-Link ADSL2+ Wireless :: Using A TD-W8970 With A NAS?

Feb 28, 2013

Region : Australia
Model : TD-W8970
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version :
ISP :

Im having issues setting up port forwarding with my Synology NAS.

My house is all connected via network cable, going to a main 24-port switch, which is connected to a Modem/Router (TP-LINK in this case). I can access the NAS from anywhere on my home network, send and receive is fine. I previously used a Billion modem/router in the same config and it all worked fine.

The problem is that when going through the Synology setup, it fails to see the tp-link. So therefore I cannot run its port forwarding program to setup all my ports. Which in turn the NAS can't access the internet. I have started going through the port-forward setting on the router interface, and manually entered the ports - i realized that I'm limited to the number of ports i'm allowed to open! I have also run a port testing program, some are successfully opened the others are not.

Is there some button i need to check or switch on the modem?

TP-Link ADSL2+ Wireless :: TD-W8970 - NAS Not Being Seen On Network

I've just replaced my aging ZyXel Wireless Router with a TD-W8970 which connects to the internet with no problems whatsoever. However, I have an ethernet connected Western Digital MyBookLive NAS which is happily allocated an IP addess but does not show up on my network on my PC (Windows Vista - fully patched). A usb connected pen drive and exactly the same. Am I missing something blindingly obvious? On the ZyXel the NAS worked with no problems whatsoever.

The problem with the NAS was my internet security Bitdefender. For some reason, on installing the TP-W8970, it switched my firewall status to public from home/office. Corrected that and the NAS can now be seen over the network. This does not fix the USB attached pen drive not being seen problem though.
