Cisco Wireless :: 1242G-E-K9 Not Seeing Other 1242s Or 1231 On Network?

Oct 31, 2011

I have a problem where clients cannot roam between Cisco 1231g-e-k9 and recently installed cisco 1242g-e-k9 access points..  On looking at the CDP option on the 1231 and 1242 access points they are all aware of each other.  However if I use the Network View option I see a different picture.  All the 1231 access points can see each other but not see the 1242's.  Network View on the1242 shows all the 1231's but none of the 1242's.  The 1231 are running ver. 12.3(8)JEB and the 1242's are running ver. 12.4(21a)JA1.

2. When connecting an AIR-ANT1728 omnidirectional to the primary connector on the ap, does this have to be enable or is it enable by default?

3. My laptops can connect and travel between access point just fine, but smartphones cannot even see the network.

Cisco :: Preventing Unwanted Access Points 1242s

Feb 26, 2013

This is just a tip that we used on our controllers that I wanted to pass along. We were having issues with unwanted access points associating to our controllers. We had a stack of older 1242s that came up missing and hit our network. On way we came up with to prevent this was to number all of our wlans above I'd # 16 on the controller. By default the default ap group allows all wlans from 1 to 16. By starting with 17 we are not allowing any SSIDs in the default group. All if our production access points are in their own ap groups. Any access point that hits our controllers that has not been configured with the correct ap group name will be in the default ap group and will not be servicing any SSIDs.I know there are other ways to set this up but this was a tricky way for us to set it up and see who calls about there wireless not working.

Cisco :: AIR-LAP-1242G APs Not Obeying Static IP Address Assignment

Feb 8, 2011

I've got a network of several AIR-LAP-1242G LWAPP access points controlled by a 2112 WLC. I assign static IP addresses to each LWAPP, but every few weeks, a couple of them (at random) revert back to grabbing a DHCP-assigned dynamic address for themselves, despite the fact that they're supposedly solidy configured to have static IPs. What's going on here? Is this a bug in their firmware or the WLC's firmware? If I reboot the APs, then they come up with their static IPs, but after running some random number of days/weeks, will spontaneously change their own management IP addresses and grab a DHCP address for themselves.

The 1242G APs version numbers reported by the WLC's web GUI are:

"Software version" 5.2.193.0
"Boot version" 12.4.13.0
"IOS version" 12.4(18a)JA2
"Mini IOS version" 3.0.51.0

The 2112 WLC is running software version 5.2.193.0

Cisco Wireless :: AP 1231 With WLC 7.0 Connection

I cannot figure out to import that file, I cannot find any documentation on how to add the certificate with version 7.0.

After about 200 sec , they attempt to connect to Primary WLC once again and fail. The whole cycle is repeated every 250 seconds.

My idea was to put the devices locally in the same closed network for share via AIR Mirror the ipads on the apple TV.

Cisco Wireless :: Failing To Add Aironet 1231 To WLC 5508

Jul 8, 2012

I'm having little success migrating our older Aironet1231 to our new WLC 5508. The 1231 is currently registered as a LAP to a 4400 WLC and I'm in the process of moving away from this controller to the new one.  I've pasted the output of the error messages I'm getting below.  At this point, I'm stuck and not sure how to get around the "Failed to parse CAPWAP packet" error.

I'm getting these messages when I have:
debug pm pki enable
debug capwap errors enable

I initially got this error, but got passed it when I allowed SSC in the 5508 (Security -> AP Policies)
sshpmGetIssuerHandles: SSC is not allowed by config; bailing...

Now I'm getting these:
*sshpmLscTask: Jul 09 11:13:11.516: sshpmLscTask: LSC Task received a message 4

Home Network :: Cisco Linksys E1500 - Wireless Security Protocol For Guest Network?

Oct 29, 2012

Having an issue with a Cisco Linksys E1500 on a home network. The device has a feature to provide a guest wireless network but the guest network can't get to the internet. A wired connection is fine, as is the normal wireless network but not the guest. The cheesy thing is, that it doesn't list an option for what type of wireless security protocol you want on the guest network. I'm assuming that it uses the same security protocol that the normal wireless network uses, but who knowsEspecially weird is that it asks you what password you want on the guest network but then the guest network show to be insecure when you try to connectthought maybe it was something funky with some of my configurations so I went ahead and factory defaulted it and just set it up with an insecure network for both the normal and guest networks. This didn't solve it. The guest network still couldn't get to the internet. In fact, the guest network can't even ping the router.

Home Network :: Add Printers To Local Wireless Network Without Sharing From Computer

I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

Wireless Network Stuck On Acquiring Network Address And Cannot Renew IP

Jul 5, 2011

A few days ago the internet on my desktop was working fine. now it has the 'limited or no connectivity' sign on it and i have done a few things to try and fix this. I started by trying a simple repair. it comes up with 'the following action can not be completed: Renewing your IP address' This lead me to try and restart my PC and router with no luck.

I then decided to look a bit further into it and went ito CMD and flushed the DNS. i then did 'ipconfig /release' which generated the response 'IP address for adapter wireless connection 9 has allready been released'. I then did 'ipconfig /renew' to which it generated an interestin response:

'An error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection 9 : The RPC server is unavailable'

I have made sure my DNS client is on automatic, alont with my RPC (this was uneditable). Its not a router problem as i have had multiple devices connected before and my laptop is working just fine connecting wirelessly.

Creating A Secure Wired Network Alongside A Wireless Network?

Oct 10, 2011

I have been involved in the Networking of a museum with a set of "Show" computers which display video, and for this reason cannot have anti virus installed becuase of the performace hit, and also the risk of pop-ups on the videos. They do however need to be connected to the internet as some are interactive and allow people to send simple emails, and they all need to allow remote support when things go wrong. It seems the networking was not thought out very well initially, and there is a single wireless router which serves the staff and public on a secured wireless network, but also serves the "Show" machines via a wired connection from one of its ports, which then connects to a master switch which serves the show machines. Now the wired and wireless is on the same network, and everything shares the same IP subnet (192.168.1.xxx), and this is not a good situation in terms of the securuty of the show machines on the wired network. So I need to work out a way to totally separate the wireless network (which will be very prone to people opening viruses in their emails etc), from the wired network (which will be the show machines which wont be touched by anyone).

I want to achieve this in the simplest and easiest way, and have been reading about the possibility of setting up a second wired router behind the current wireless one, with a different subnet IP address, to which the "Show" machines could be connected. The WAN port on this second router would connect to a LAN port on the wireless router, and thus the show machines could get their internet, but separated from the dangerous wireless network.Does this sound like a sensible start? Will the fact that the wired router (and show machines) are on a completely different subnet to the wireless router (and wireless devices), mean that the wired network will be protected? Or do I need to do more? And is this likely to work?

Home Network :: Airport Wireless Network?

Nov 1, 2011

I have a rather complex situation that requires (I think) a complex solution that I have not yet worked out! I have the following:

- ADSL internet connection

- TP-Link TD-W8960N 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router

- Brand new Airport extreme (n)

- Four brand airport expresses (n)

- 24 port 3com switch.

My requirements are:

- A contained, protected, office network with wi-fi with access, and also access for wired clients via the 24 port switch.

- A "guest" network with only internet access which needs to be spread throughout a large, old building (thick stone walls!), but cabling is not possible.

My inital thought was to use the TP-Link as only a modem and run the network via the extreme. Plug the switch into the extreme which would also run the office wi-fi and then extend the guest network (nice extra option in the extreme!) thoughout the building with the expresses. Problem is that you cannot extend the guest network with either n or g. I cannot just reverse these two networks because I need wired access to the office network. The current system has the extreme running only the office network (wi-fi + wired) as a "double NAT" inside the "mother network" which is DHCPed by the TP-LINK with its wireless on (pretty good range). I set the expresses to extend the TP-Link's wireless by old fashioned WDS which I got working but it was incredibly slow just because that is what g WDS is like. I am not using the n capacity of the expresses.

I thought about using the TP-Link DHCP and wi-fi to run the office network and then I can use the extreme and the "extend my network" n option for better speeds around the building, but then the office network would be open to the guest network.
