Cisco Wireless :: How To Configure 3 X 4410N To Extend Wi-Fi
Oct 18, 2012
I would like to configure 3 Access Point (WAP4410N) to extend the wifi in my house. I try it to do several configuration but it doesn't work.
In this configuration, the wifi devices disappears and re-appears constantly. I lose the IP addresses and they all come down only every 5 seconds. I made screen shots of the 3 terminals in the word document attached below

I have 12 wap4410n to enable wireless connection to a school building with 3 floor. I planned to configure one as a Access point. My doubt is in which AP mode i have to configure the rest as WDS Bridge or WDS Repeater other mode. In each access point i have Ethernet connection to the switch.

I have two WRT54GS routers. I want to extend my WiFi from the router connected to my upstream in the office to a second router in the living room. I want devices configured for the SSID and passphrase of my current WiFi (which is find in the office) to work seamlessly in the living room. I understand I can do this by running a cable and configuring router 2 as a client of router 1 with router 2 exposing the same SSID and passthrase on a different channel.
But I really don't want to run a cable. There is a point where a client can see router 1 where an AP would cover the living room.
Can I put router 2 at that point, have it connect wirelessly as a client to router 1, and have it expose as an AP using the same SSID and passphrase? Can this be done without wiring the router?

I have set up a home network with Time Capsule as the primary router. I would like to use my WRTG54GL to connect to the network via ethernet and extend it for wireless access at the opposite end of my house. I changed the settings to disable the DHCP server, I named the network the same as the Time Capsule and duplicated security mode and password. I can connect with my laptop, but it initially connects with full internet access, but after about 10 seconds, I can see Airport searching for a network. It reconnects, but for about 45 seconds I have no internet access and then access returns and works fine. On my iPad, however, although it shows I am connected to the network, there is no signal indicator at the top of the screen, and all connectivity seems to be through 3G -- not the network. I assume there is a setting on the Linksys that needs changing, but I can't figure out what it is.

The documentation for the 4410N states it supports 802.1x however, all I see is to configure 802.1x using mac address or using uername and password.
Does the 4410N support 802.1x using EAP? If so how is it configured?

I installed one of these on a small network. It's going through a mini-switch 5 port netgear to a larger 16 port netgear. Users are only able to get (4Mbps, 5Mbps) down on a file transfer. Shouldn't I be able to get closer to 80 Mbps on a 100Mbps network when connected on 802.11N?

Have a Linksys E-3000 router and a WAP-4410N which I wish to configure as a repeater to extend network coverage. E-3000 IP has been changed to 10.10.1.1. How do I do it ? What do I connect to what in order to configure the WAP-4410N to new settings? It will of course be located remotely from the router. At this time network consists of a main PC and 2 wireless laptops. I have read the manual and it doesn't answer the above described situation.

I have a big problem with my cisco wap4410n .. I have upgrade the firmware of this AP to V2.0.3.3 for supporting multiple SSID after my upgradation is finished ..one time I can able to access the administration page But when I connected to another system the same AP I cannot able to connect through ethernet .The network connection in the system shows connected for one second and not connected for the next second its simultaneously repeating the same ..and still not connecting ..i changed my ip setting to default ie 192.168.1.xxxx and again to old config 192.169.3.xx any way the same instance is showing ..
In the WAP the power led, wireless led , are connected good but the Ethernet led is blinking off on stage.I have many times hard reset the WAP but off no use the same happens .i could not able connect to WAP.This may be the worse case ever seen in wap4410n …

We are on our 2nd 4410N. we monitor the AP with software that graphs the signal strength. the first 4410N would completely dissappear for about 3 to 5 seconds every few hours, that would disconnect users and annoy them greatly. a few weeks after we bought it, we sent it back to Cisco who sent us a new replacement. we have been monitoring the new one and several times an hour strength strength drops about 50DB for about a minute. monitoring is done from about 15 feet away from the AP.

We installed a new WAP 4401n to extend a network and plugged it into a D-Link mini swtich (5 ports). In about 2 minutes we got no activity on the switch. We pulled power on the mini-switch, waited a couple minutes and re-powewred. No activity. Looks like we blew the switch. Put another mini-switch in and it did the same thing in about 4 minutes.
The WAP4401n is a PoE ready AP. We are checking right now on whether it's a cable wiring problem or an AP problem.I believe we are using the RJ-45 data cable that came with the AP.

I wonder if I can join via the WAP 4410n Bridge and also work as Access-point at a time. The idea is that you can connect to a router that provides Internet service that makes access-point bridge and connect to another WAP 4410n which would be another single access point for wireless bridge.

I've looked over all the spec sheets and hunted around, can't seem to figure out if the RV016 or RV082 support PoE. what Cisco product would be best to inject PoE on a small business network. I have 1 RV016, and I'm looking to deploy a RV082 and WAP4410N, with the 4410 being the only device on my network that would need PoE, I'd rather not have to buy a dedicated PoE Switch or Hub just for that one device.

My b/g/n router is at one end of the house and on the second floor needs to be. I currently have a b/g/n wireless bridge hooked to a LAN port of an b/g/n router that I am using as an access point almost in the center of the house, about thirty feet away with one wall between them. I get good connection speed on an Internet TV that's about 7 feet below the access point with one floor/ceiling between. I get a reliable but slow connection to an Internet TV that is about 20 feet from the access point with two walls between. I get intermittent, slow connections with portable devices near the opposite end of the house on the first floor. Measured horizontally, they are within 15 feet of the upstairs TV that has a slow connection and about 9 feet below it.
The ceiling of my unfinished basement stairwell is a few feet below my router. I am thinking of putting a wireless bridge in the stairwell and connecting it with ethernet cable to an access point located in the crawl space, which is very dry, under the house directly below the upstairs Internet TV. It would be about 12 feet below the TV with a floor and a ceiling/floor between. That location would put it within 15 feet of the wireless devices on the far end of the house that now have a poor connection, with only a floor between. My primary goal is to get a better connection for them, but I'm hoping for a better one to the upstairs TV. My house is of frame construction with mostly plaster interior walls.
I want to use a POE access point under the house because I think it would be easier and safer than running a long extension cord. Looking at POE devices in catalogs, it is often not clear to me whether the device in question expects to be powered over ethernet or expects to power other devices over ethernet.
I have the following questions:
Does my plan sound feasible, and would it be expected to accomplish what I want?
How can I be sure that, when I order a POE access point, it expects to receive power over ethernet, not provide it?
Can POE devices be cascaded? If I do this and find that I did not get the coverage I hoped and, therefore, want to add another POE AP, can I add a POE hub or switch and run cable from it to the additional POE AP? If so, is there any particular monclature for devices that expect to both receive and provide POE? Can such devices receive and provide over any port, or do they have to receive power on a designated one and provide it to the others?

I have a couple of computers that are out of range of my router so I came up with a unique solution. I have an old laptop with 2 wireless cards that I put halfway between. It is working but I have a few oddities. First of all, the out of range computer is connected to another wireless router that several laptops and another (wired) PC connect to. It has ICS (Windows XP internet connect sharing) enabled. This rules out using ICS on the laptop as 2 pc's would have the address of 192.168.0.1.

I get 10% signal in my bedroom using WEP2 and I would like to boost this to at least 50%
1) I have 2 DIR-655 Wireless N routers, both functional.
2) The first router is on the other side of the house from my room
3) The second router is not in use at all ... I'd like to take advantage of it
4) I have an Ethernet drop in my bedroom that runs under the house to the first router. I have a switch on that drop and use it for my Sony / Netflix box ...
I have been told that the DIR-655 cannot be used as a repeater. Can I not take advantage of the 2nd router to boost my signal in any way?

Ground floor: My ISP's wireless router and an 8-port switch. For wireless communication I use the ISP's Wifi and the 8-port switch is used for wired rj45 sockets around the house.
1st Floor: I have a TP-LINK TL-WR740N Wireless Lite N Router 150 MBps which I connected to a socket and have a PC connect with wire on it and also used for Wifi. The Wifi network I setup on the 1st floor is different than the one on the ground floor (2 routers).
At the first floor I have the problem that in other bedrooms far from the router the Wifi signal (either gets lost) or it's very low. So I bought a TP-LINK TL-WA701ND Wireless N Access Point 150MBps which I configured as universal repeater.
The access point supports only WEP encryption when used as repeater/universal repeater so I changed the wifi of the router to WEP with ASCII with 128bit character length and established the connection. The most important now is that even though the Wifi signal in the bedroom with the AP is full, when I switch off the wifi of the iPad and back on, it is not connecting to the internet. Yesterday I noticed that it was giving me the ethernet card IP (169.…). I went close to the router with the iPhone, got connected and when came back to the room with the AP it was working but the iPad is not working.

I have an 802.11n/g wireless network throughout my house. I also have several ethernet ports. I want to use the ethernet port to connect to the network and extended the existing wireless network (same SSID). I know AirPort devices from Apple can do this but I wanted to know if anything else could as well. It is too slow when I try to wirelessly extend it (not using ethernet at all).

I have a WRVS4400N v2 acting as a gateway connected to a cable modem and am interested in extending it's range by placing a WAP4410N elsewhere in the building to cover a deadspot. Is there a mode on the WAP to best achieve this (e.g., wireless repeater, bridge, etc.)? I had assumed that it would be the wireless client/repeater mode, but the thread below leads me to believe otherwise, but is not labeled as resolved.
[URL]
As a different approach, could I extend the range of the original gateway WRVS4400N by dropping a second WRVS4400N in the deadspot and setting it to router mode? Language in the WRVS4400N v2 administrator screens lead me to believe that I could try this but I am unclear as to whether it would work wirelessly or need to be connected to the gateway via an ethernet cable, which is what I am trying to avoid.
