im just want to ask a favor if you can guide me to set up or configure a router repeater to extend my wifi at my home. i dont have a specific brand of repeater yet.. im planning to buy but i have no idea how to set up a repeater by myself.
View 1 RepliesI have two WRT54GS routers. I want to extend my WiFi from the router connected to my upstream in the office to a second router in the living room. I want devices configured for the SSID and passphrase of my current WiFi (which is find in the office) to work seamlessly in the living room. I understand I can do this by running a cable and configuring router 2 as a client of router 1 with router 2 exposing the same SSID and passthrase on a different channel.
But I really don't want to run a cable.There is a point where a client can see router 1 where an AP would cover the living room.
Can I put router 2 at that point, have it connect wirelessly as a client to router 1, and have it expose as an AP using the same SSID and passphrase? Can this be done without wiring the router?
Im in abit of trouble trying to setup a wireless network. Part of the problem is that I am many miles away and I've never setup a wifi-netork involving more than one device, that device being a router.I connected the TL-WA901ND to the router(a Thomson tg787) located in the house, this router couldn't be used simply because the SSID and its password is locked, and we sometimes have people renting the bottom floor and we would prefer a better SSID and a changable password for the network. The first TL-WA901ND(will call this one TL1(AP) from now on, the other being TL2(RP)) is set to operate as Access Point, having a different SSID and password for the network, and it works great. However, when I try to set the other one, TL2(RP) to repeater mode, with the TL1(AP) and that SSID/MAC as "target", it doesn't seem to work. I've tried using bot the repeater mode and the universal repeater mode but none of them seem to do the job.Is is possible to repeat the signal of an access point or does it have to be a router? The SSID and the WPAkey of the repeater is set to the same as the access point, is that correct?The access point is not the one handing out IP-addresses, the router is still acting as the DHCP-server, is that correct?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm having problems with setting up my cisco WAP4410N as a repeater to extend the signal of cisco E2500.It works fine when there is no password to be set on both devices. But when either one of these devices had beenset a password on it, then WAP4410N failed to extend the signal of E2500.
I tried steps as below:
1. Same password type in WAP4410N and E2500.
2. Different password type in WAP4410N and E2500.
3. Set password in WAP4410N ONLY.
4. Set password in E2500 ONLY.
All steps above makes WAP4410N fail to extend the signal range of E2500. WAP4410N successfully works as a repeater to extend the signal of E2500 when there is no password to be set on both devices.
I have set up a home network with Time Capsule as the primary router. I would like to use my WRTG54GL to connect to the network via ethernet and extend it for wireless access at the opposite end of my house. I changed the settings to disable the DHCP server, I named the network the same as the Time Capsule and duplicated security mode and password. I can connect with my laptop, but it initially connects with full internet access, but after about 10 seconds, I can see Airport searching for a network. It reconnects, but for about 45 seconds I have no internet access and then access returns and works fine. On my iPad, however, although it shows I am connected to the network, there is no signal indicator at the top of the screen, and all connectivity seems to be through 3G -- not the network. I assume there is a setting on the Linksys that needs changing, but I can't figure out what it is.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOur wireless router is in a room at one end of the house (beside the telephone point) from which ethernet cables can connect to the Cat5 sockets taking the broadband to the other rooms that have a Cat5 socket. That is fine for connecting devices to the sockets in the other rooms but because the house is old with thick walls our wifi signal fades to nothing in some parts of the house. Moving the wireless router only moves the problem to another area. I thought about a wifi repeater but the room I would like to locate it in to then boost the signal to the rest of the house is borderline on the range for the wireless router. What I want to do is, to reproduce WiFi signal (from TP-LINK modem) by repeating with D-Link Wireless Access Point.
Here is how web interface looks. There is an option for repeating:
After clicking Site Survey I see all list of available networks. When I select one of them, the D-link saves changes then reboots. After that, Windows shows me something like that on available WiFi networks list:
<Repeated network name> 2
The problem is, when I connect to this network, Windows connects directly into root source, not to my WAP (I see this with inSSIDer utility).

I've played around a little tring to configure the Airport extreme but can't seem to get it to connect to my E4200v2? Can you mod the Airprt Extreme with dd-wrt or something that might unlock some of the features?I can't stand the interface. The E4200v2 is brand new.

I followed the instructions given on the Edimax manual, and while my devices (iPad, laptop) got connected to the new repeater network, I could not access the Internet from it. I may be wrong, but the instructions on the Edimax manual seemed to be for a DHCP connection. Is there anything different I need to do to configure the Edimax repeater on a PPPoE connection?My router IP ("Local IP address") shows 10.10.0.1 instead of the "192.168.1.1" that all the documentation online seems to suggest.
