View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless access point/modem at one end of my property (which I cannot relocate). To improve wireless connectivity on the other end of the property I am thinking of placing a wifi repeater (probably a cheap one like http:[URL]... mid-point in the property. However I don't quite understand how these things work. I assume repeaters, extenders, boosters are all the same thing?
Does the repeater actually create a new seperate wifi network, so I will effectively have two wifi networks/SSIDs? or will my wireless devices still see only one wifi network? If it creates two wifi networks what happens when I move through the property with say a laptop, will the laptop need to disconnect from one and reconnect to the other hence interrupting the connection? (which is not ideal).
Also does the repeater take up an IP from my main wireless access point/modem? My setup uses a block of static IPs and hence I would prefer not to waste an IP on the repeater if possible.Homeplugs is something else I'm looking into but that seems to be a more expensive option. With Homeplugs I would disable the wireless on the main access point/modem. Then use the Homeplug to put a wireless access point in the centre of my property hence giving fuller coverage.I've also tried higher DBi antennas (& directional ones) but they have not been effective.
im just want to ask a favor if you can guide me to set up or configure a router repeater to extend my wifi at my home. i dont have a specific brand of repeater yet.. im planning to buy but i have no idea how to set up a repeater by myself.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a Wireless-N repeater which is now up and running and connects with both Ipad, iPhone and other laptops with ease. The problem is that I can't connect using my own PC. I'm using Windows Vista and the connection to the repeater seems fine, it just can't connect to the Internet. Every time I try and open a web page I receive the following message.Error 105 (net:ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED) Unable to resolve the servers DNS address.

I am fairly well versed in computer-type verbage and usage, but networking is an alien language to me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the main router, which is SMC SMCD3GN from Rogers in Canada, and I have heard from MANY people that this router REALLY sucks..especially the range. And I myself also had problem with low signal in the 2nd floor of my house, so I purchased the wifi repeater (TP Link) to extend the range. I followed the guide given in the box, and everything was set up flawlessly. However, after a few hours of use, all my devices (laptop, tablet, phone) which are in the same room as the repeater decrease the signal again, to the point where it was before I purchased the repeater. Then if I disconnect the wifi and reconnect, the signal is full again. Sometimes I have to unplug the repeater from the wall and replug in order for it to work.

We have a modem at home but it doesn't have built in wifi so we have it connected to a router. We have fast internet (ADSL2 i think) but running through the router, it's very slow. So i was wondering if i could somehow make my laptop a modem? Or a router as well because it would have to be faster than the one we have now. View 3 Replies View RelatedSince a few days I've installed my Sitecom 300N Repeater to extend the wifi signal at my home.I named my repeater the same as my wifi UPC modem (Cisco EPC3925), so the PC will see 1 connection instead of 2. I also turned off the DHCP server on the repeater (not sure what it does, but it was recommended when I was goggling around).fortunately I'm experiencing a lot of trouble. Although I can connect to the repeater, the signal is not always stable. Many times my connection speed is as low as 3 Mbps. When I quickly turn the power off and on it instantly jumps back to around 40 Mbps and stays like that for a few hours/days.It's very hard to debug this problem because after resetting the the repeater is doing very good until it slows down or even dispersers after a few hours.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Wi-Fi repeater (Siemens Gigaset Repeater WLAN SE365) to boost my wi-fi signal throughout my house without having to drill through walls of concrete (with a boost in phone wi-fi in mind on the top floor of the house). I was advised to buy one specifically with the make and model of my router in mind, as connectivity might be an issue if these don't match up. I own a Siemens Gigaset SX55 router so there should be no issue there (I can use the repeater on 2 different frequencies, not sure which one is best, 2.4 or 5 ghz). The instruction manual told me to connect the repeater to my pc once (through use of an Ethernet-cable supplied) so I could alter the settings of the repeater to match with that of my router (same SSID, protection method, channel). Whereas naming it the same as the router by modifying the SSID and using the same ASCII WEP-protection password as the router were doable, I could not find an option to change a channel.
At this point the instruction manual was fresh out of ideas and told me that I had set up the repeater as it should be installed. After unplugging it from my pc and plugging the regular ethernet cable back in for internet (There is wi-fi coming from the router downstairs but also a cable through the house to the pc) I was ready to go and seeing the wi-fi bars on my phone jump up to maximum made me extremely happy. Unfortunately the phone (and the app Wifi Analyzer) did recognize the full signal but when trying to open sites or apps that use internet it responded as if it had no signal whatsoever
I have set up my linksys in my main hall, i get a decent wifi signal in my room. But i get very very poor signals on my phones (bb9780 and Samsung S2). I bought a Huawei WS320 wifi repeater. how to connect these two so that i can get a strong enough signal in my room ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new technicolor TG582n modem and the wifi signal doesn't reach to all the house. It's a big house, lots of concrete walls. I also have a Linksys WRT54G router and I'm wondering if it's possible to put the Linksys in the other area of the house and capture the signal from the Tompson. Then connect to that signal with my laptop. Maybe this will work to give me wifi in all areas.

View 1 Replies View RelatedCanon T3i hooked up to a laptop running ExtraWebcam and Yawcam.Yawcam running an HTML and Stream output to the network/web.I would like people to be able to access that video from the [the internet + network or internet or network] (those are the options/possibilities and the order in which I'd prefer).I am able to get people to access it via the network, but not the net. I'm using my Samsung Galaxy SIII on Sprint to tether (obviously not tethering if I'm only going to the network). Unfortunately, not only can I not access the stream via the internet, I can't even ping the phone.I'm pretty sure I need to open up/forward some ports, but I understand that that's not possible seeing as it's Sprint's network and not mine.
I will also have access to a local wifi network if there's a way to 'piggyback' off of that for web access to the stream even if I don't have access to the router control panel. I'm not sure if I'll have a hard wire connection to a router or not. I can, however, change the ports that the stream is set to.(also, I can bring a separate wireless router to connect to my tethered computer to open up the internet enabled stream to the network?)Given a laptop with a wifi card, a phone that can tether, a wifi network, and, if necessary, an extra wireless router, how can I stream from Yawcam and make it available to the internet if I DON'T have access to the wifi network's port forwarding? Note that I CAN edit the ports in Yawcam.
