Extending Household Wifi Using A Router As A Repeater?

Apr 12, 2011

I am trying to use a NETGEAR 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router (Model DG834G v4) as a repeater to extend the WiFi I currently have off another NETGEAR router in my house to my office which is a seperate building in my backyard (75 feet away depending on where I place my router exactly).I've scoured the vast internet for specifics with this particular router. I am fairly well versed in computer-type verbage and usage, but networking is an alien language to me.

Cisco Wireless :: E3000 With WAP4410N As Repeater For Extending Network Coverage

Dec 20, 2010

I am trying to setup an E3000 router and extending the network with a WAP4410N acting as a repeater.

I am faced with the same problem and it looks like it all comes down to this: without the WAP4410N having a physical connection to the LAN, it will not connect to the E3000 as a wireless client whether it's configured in AP mode: WDS Repeater or in client/repeater.

I've tested with various permutations that have been explored in the various discussions: matching channels/bandsmatching and non-matching SSIDs matching security settings using site survey to set the mac address of the E3000 (ensuring it's the MAC of the 2.4Ghz wireless)setting a static IP on the WAP4410Nensuring both devices are on the same subnet. Any way to be truly successful with this pair up of E3000 & WAP4410N or is it simply a technical product limitation?

Extending Wifi Range Using Another Router Mn-700?

Mar 22, 2012

I want to share my pc's wifi connection with a neighbor across the street. But i have been un-able to confirm that it can reach the net. With the configs i have tried.I have cloned the mac addy for the wifiAP i have shared. This should be enough. And i should be able to walk it across the street and have it act as the same wifiAP. And he should have the net, via my pc. I tried to use another wifi device to connect to the shared IP...And the router itself...But there was no internet. have tried to configure this router to work as a repeater as well using it's setup. This resulted in no internet connectivity over lan, and no wifi service listing. These is no way for me to tell it which router or device it should be repeating from...

I have tried manually configureing the mn-700 To use the same ip the other router does for it's services. The mn-700 doesn't keep the settings. When it does there is no internet or wifi services. When i have it setup on it's own, no config changes...It'll connect over wifi to the router but there is no net. I can connect a lan wire going to the other router and renew it's lease. This will give the mn-700 an ip addy as if it were another pc. It uses this as it's WAN config

Extending A Network With Additional Wifi Router?

Jul 25, 2012

As my original Innbox V50U modem/router does not have a strong enough wifi signal I had to add in an additional wifi router - I used a Cisco Linksys E4200.The problem is that if I connect my laptop to the cisco router I can see the Innbox router but not vice versa. There is an additional problem as I have a wireless printer that is connected to the Cisco router. If I connect to the Innbox router I cannot use this printer as I cannot see its IP address.I read somewhere it might be down to the subnet mask. both are set to 255.255.255.0Apologies if this is n00b stuff but I have not had this problem before, I just naturally though the two networks would be able to talk to each-other.

Extending Wifi Reach With Linksys Ap Or Router?

Feb 25, 2012

Goal: extend the reach of my WiFi to multiple floors with keeping in the basement the DSL modem - Actiontech M1000 and Actiontech W1000. I have a Linksys Access Point and Linksys Router. I was told by CenturyLink (only allowed support for Actiontech) that the modem would need to be put in bridge mod that would disable the Actiontech W1000. Whereas I want to keep access in the basement and add coverage to upstairs.

being able to config the Linksys(s) or using DD-WRT operating system?

Netgear N300 Dgn2200v1 Adsl2+ Modem Router / Extending Wifi Range For Home Network?

Dec 11, 2012

how to properly configure 2 different hardware devices to extend the current wifi signal of my home network.I'm using a Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem as my primary access point (AP) and a Netgear N300 DGN2200v1 ADSL2+ modem router which will function "behind" the SBG6580 in repeater mode. I previously had DSL for my internet connectivity but recently switched to broadband cable for faster speeds.Due to the layout of my home, I cannot physically connect the Netgear router to the Motorola modem via ethernet cable and need both devices to communicate wirelessly. I have already done extensive reading on this subject and best practices suggest that, whenever possible, both units should be the same brand/manufacturer. The Netgear appliance does have the capability of being configured as a repeater so if I don't have to buy a "network extender" that would be my preference.I understand that both units must be configured to have the same SSID, subnet, wireless channel and security encryption. In repeater mode the Netgear router can't be configured to use WPA2-PSK so I need to use WEP instead.

Extending My Wifi To Other Property Over The Street?

Sep 26, 2012

I have a wifi at home but also have another property over the street from me with no phone line in. I would like to have wifi ability in that property but the signal is fairly weak from my wifi at home.I presume that without installing a new line and broadband at that property the only way would be to try and extend the range of my home wifi so it can be accessed from my property over the road with an access point in there to boost the strength within that property?

What would be the best equipment and set up for this? Presumably because it is over a public road and technically a different address then wired connections would be out of the question?

Extending Wifi Network At Home?

May 8, 2012

have a home network setup that works completely fine everywhere in the house except one room. That room happens to be my son's room that has his Xbox 360 in it. He wants to play online but I cant get a signal back in there and if I do it is extremely weak. I have a linksys E2500 router connected to my cable modem that is wired ot one computer and then my 2 laptops connect to the wireless from that router. The Playstation 3 that is about 15 feet away works fine as well. All our ipods and iPhones work well too. It is only his bedroom where we run into trouble with any of these devices. I actually just upgraded to the E2500 about 2 months ago, so I have a Motorola WR850G sitting around. Can I use this closer to his room to lengthen my signal or how can I proceed to get him a better signal

Wireless :: Extending Signal Range Of Wifi Network

Feb 8, 2013

Sending WiFi signal about 1/4 mile from my home to where my daughter lives so she can use her Samsung Galaxy2 Tablet on WiFi.There are homes, condos and trees in between us, so it is not a clear path.So far this is what I have done.I am using a modem and a Netgear WNR834B Wireless N Router.I connected a Hawkins Laptop Extender (HWREN Wireless 150N Mini Extender * single antenna outlet) into the router and connected a WiFi cable from the Hawkins to my tower outside above my roof and have attached a 10 dbi gain Trendnet antenna (omnidirectional) to the cable. But still the WiFi signal doesn't seem to be very strong at all when I test with my phone. And obviously, my daughters tablet does not see my router when she has her tablet search for WiFi.I also tried a 14dbi WIfi ASUS directional antenna and basically came up with the same outcome... she could not see the WiFi signal..My daughter lives in a condo and is not capable or allowed to install any outside antenna system whatsoever.

Linksys Cable / Dsl :: Wag160n Extending Wifi Network

Feb 9, 2011

I replaced my old separate modem and router yesterday for a Linksys WAG160N. Basically , my next door neighbor is paying their ISP a fortune and hardly uses their internet at all. Ive offered for them to share mine (With both of us providing full consent , i'm not doing anything dodgy!) as i have a very big download quota and it would save them some money.

Now the 2 houses are separated by an alley but distance from the router to their computer is about 6m. Strangely , my WAG160N doesn't reach that far as my wireless network doesn't even appear when they in their house on their laptop! So after reading up on wireless bridges / wireless range extenders and all sorts of things i'm now very confused.

Im basically looking for the most cost effective way of extending the signal from my WAG160N , possibly through the use of a second router in my garage) to allow the neighbor to get a good signal. I cannot reposition my modem/router from its current location and also cannot connect a second router using an Ethernet cable , it must be done wireless. So , is there a way i can wireless connect my WAG160N to another wireless router in order to extend my signal for my neighbor to use? I was looking at the Netgear WN2000RPT and the WRT160N as someone else had previous success with using this as a repeater.

Wifi Repeater Setup And Operation?

Aug 16, 2012

I have a wireless access point/modem at one end of my property (which I cannot relocate). To improve wireless connectivity on the other end of the property I am thinking of placing a wifi repeater (probably a cheap one like http:[URL]... mid-point in the property. However I don't quite understand how these things work. I assume repeaters, extenders, boosters are all the same thing?

Does the repeater actually create a new seperate wifi network, so I will effectively have two wifi networks/SSIDs? or will my wireless devices still see only one wifi network? If it creates two wifi networks what happens when I move through the property with say a laptop, will the laptop need to disconnect from one and reconnect to the other hence interrupting the connection? (which is not ideal).

Also does the repeater take up an IP from my main wireless access point/modem? My setup uses a block of static IPs and hence I would prefer not to waste an IP on the repeater if possible.Homeplugs is something else I'm looking into but that seems to be a more expensive option. With Homeplugs I would disable the wireless on the main access point/modem. Then use the Homeplug to put a wireless access point in the centre of my property hence giving fuller coverage.I've also tried higher DBi antennas (& directional ones) but they have not been effective.

Tp Link Wifi Range Repeater Keeps Locking Up

Sep 9, 2012

I have the main router, which is SMC SMCD3GN from Rogers in Canada, and I have heard from MANY people that this router REALLY sucks..especially the range. And I myself also had problem with low signal in the 2nd floor of my house, so I purchased the wifi repeater (TP Link) to extend the range. I followed the guide given in the box, and everything was set up flawlessly. However, after a few hours of use, all my devices (laptop, tablet, phone) which are in the same room as the repeater decrease the signal again, to the point where it was before I purchased the repeater. Then if I disconnect the wifi and reconnect, the signal is full again. Sometimes I have to unplug the repeater from the wall and replug in order for it to work.

Unstable Wifi Connection / Sitecom 300n Repeater

Jan 6, 2012

Since a few days I've installed my Sitecom 300N Repeater to extend the wifi signal at my home.I named my repeater the same as my wifi UPC modem (Cisco EPC3925), so the PC will see 1 connection instead of 2. I also turned off the DHCP server on the repeater (not sure what it does, but it was recommended when I was goggling around).fortunately I'm experiencing a lot of trouble. Although I can connect to the repeater, the signal is not always stable. Many times my connection speed is as low as 3 Mbps. When I quickly turn the power off and on it instantly jumps back to around 40 Mbps and stays like that for a few hours/days.It's very hard to debug this problem because after resetting the the repeater is doing very good until it slows down or even dispersers after a few hours.

Siemens Gigaset Repeater Wlan Se365 Boosting Wifi Signal?

Mar 7, 2013

I recently purchased a Wi-Fi repeater (Siemens Gigaset Repeater WLAN SE365) to boost my wi-fi signal throughout my house without having to drill through walls of concrete (with a boost in phone wi-fi in mind on the top floor of the house). I was advised to buy one specifically with the make and model of my router in mind, as connectivity might be an issue if these don't match up. I own a Siemens Gigaset SX55 router so there should be no issue there (I can use the repeater on 2 different frequencies, not sure which one is best, 2.4 or 5 ghz). The instruction manual told me to connect the repeater to my pc once (through use of an Ethernet-cable supplied) so I could alter the settings of the repeater to match with that of my router (same SSID, protection method, channel). Whereas naming it the same as the router by modifying the SSID and using the same ASCII WEP-protection password as the router were doable, I could not find an option to change a channel.

At this point the instruction manual was fresh out of ideas and told me that I had set up the repeater as it should be installed. After unplugging it from my pc and plugging the regular ethernet cable back in for internet (There is wi-fi coming from the router downstairs but also a cable through the house to the pc) I was ready to go and seeing the wi-fi bars on my phone jump up to maximum made me extremely happy. Unfortunately the phone (and the app Wifi Analyzer) did recognize the full signal but when trying to open sites or apps that use internet it responded as if it had no signal whatsoever

Extending Router Antenna With Wire?

Jan 31, 2012

My housemates have been having a trouble with network coverage in my house, the router is located in the basement of my house, perfect for me as my room is also down there (Ethernet). Unfortunately my housemate in the attic room's signal seems to be a problem. I'm wondering if it would be possible to remove one of my routers two antennas solder some copper wire to the spot it was removed, then have the wire go up to the 1st floor and re-solder the antenna up there (mount it on the wall or something). I'm confident with the practicalities of actually doing this, but I'm not that techie when it comes to electronics. I'm not sure whether it would need more power to boost it over such a distance.
