Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N - What Does B/G/N Mixed Mode Do Exactly

Aug 29, 2011

The admin guide for the WAP4410N, explains the default setting for the Wireless Network Mode field:

"B/G/N-Mixed—(Default) Connects all the wireless client devices at their respective data rates in this mixed mode."

What does this mean exactly? Does it mean that I can have some clients using G at G speed; and some clients using N at the faster N speed? And both at the same time?

I can't see how that is possible as the AP only has one radio? If it is possible; then why is one of the options G only - that allows both G and N, but a G speeds only?

Should I set the Channel Bandwidth to 20Mhz or 40Mhz? The admin guide says that N will use 40Mhz and B/G will use 20Mhz. What is the difference in practice?

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Firmware 2.0.4.2 Bug - 300Mbps Data Rate Not Possible

Nov 17, 2011

I've spent parts of the past five days buying and exchanging several WAP4410N units because I was not able to achieve anything close to a 300Mbps data rate. I also tried various wireless-n network cards which were known to be configured correctly for 300Mbps speeds with no luck.

The highest speed I was able to achieve was 130Mbps, which is an indication that channel bonding is not in effect.

Then I came across another post in the forums:

WAP4410N does not exceed 130Mbps in N mode at close range.

where the OP mentions recently upgrading to firmware 2.0.4.2, though not treating that as the cause of his problems.

On a lark, I tried downgrading to both firmware 2.0.2.1 and firmware 2.0.3.3, and to my surprise, I was able to achieve the full 300Mbps data rate with both firmware versions.

When I reverted back to 2.0.4.2, I was not able to achieve the full 300Mbps data rate.

So, right now, I downgraded to firmware 2.0.3.3 so I can get the higher data rate, though there are other quirks to deal with.

Furthermore, when I do a web search of reviews, I can see that the inability to achieve the 300Mbps data rate is a huge source of complaints.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N WPA2 Enterprise Mixed Authentication

Oct 22, 2011

We have 3 x WAP4410N at new office setup in Singapore. Customer asked us to setup those 3 AP to make client auth against an ACS 4.2 sitting in US office. All the user notebooks were joined to Windows domain in US office, before sent out to Singapore office. We configured APs with WPA2 Enterprise Mixed mode and entered radius server address and secrects correctly. Logging from ACS shows that users are authenticated successfully but, on the user notebooks, authentication never seems successful and keeps authenticating.

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 - Limit Data Rate For Specific Client

Sep 12, 2012

I would like to be able to allow a specific client to only associate at 6mbit/s -is this possible using the wlc controller 5508? Another option would be to limit a whole w lan ssid to 6mbit/s but i can't find a way to do that either.

Other w lan ssid's on the same access points/controller need full data rates, so i guess i can't use the RF-profiling for this.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Data Rate Slows Down After A Period Of Time

Aug 11, 2010

I have just bought an E3000 router when my old router died last week.  I am having two problems:

1.  The data rate slows down after a period of time (long message trail elsewhere)

2.  I cannot see everything on the network.

I have several Win 7 computers, two win xp computers,  three NAS devices (linux based), and a printer sitting on the network, along with two switches to cope with all the traffic (not to mention iPods, iphones etc.)With my old router, I couold see everything plugged into the network from my main Win 7 computer. (note:  the win 7 network map does not always work, but the windows explorer window of the network always showed everything). With the E3000 router, I can only see 1 or 2 of the devices on the network.  If I reboot the router, then sometimes all of the devices appear on the windows explorer window (sometimes not)I am running a workgroup (not a domain) and i am not using win 7's homegroup because that will not work with the non-win 7 devices. Is there a setting that will see all of the devices in Win 7 (either on the router or on the computers). I suspect it is a router issue as it worked with my old Zyxel router.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410n - Second SSID Is Seen By Clients But Cannot Connect

Nov 15, 2011

I have a WAP4410n which has been configured with a single SSID since implementation several weeks ago with no issues.  I am now trying to add a second SSID and not having any success.  Originally the second SSID was not being assigned a MAC address and thus not being broadcasted.  After upgrading firmware to 2.0.4.2 I now see a MAC address associated with second SSID and it is being seen by clients, but they still cannot connect.  I reset the AP to default settings and reconfigured from scratch but still no luck.  I have two of these APs, the other one is still at FW rev 2.0.1.0 and has same issue (it does have MAC address associated with second SSID so I didn't bother upgrading firmware yet).

I have tried a few different authetication options, including disabling authentication, to no avail. Question - I do not see an IP address associated with the second SSID - is that the problem and if so, how do I fix that?

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Stops Accepting Clients

Sep 25, 2011

I have two WAP4410N. One of he accesspoints is connected to our wired LAN, called by now AP1. The other accesspoint is connected to the first accesspoint by WDS (Client mode) called now by AP2. I have upgraded both accesspoints to firmware 2.0.4.2. Both accesspoints are set to the same SSID and channel (6) and are set to mixed mode (B/G/N). After I two weeks they started to fail. When I connect to AP1 I don't reveive an IP-address of our DHCP server from our LAN. I'm able to connect to AP1 from our LAN. When I SSH to the box and I do an dmesg command, I see the following messages:

ath_bstuck_tasklet: stuck beacon; resetting (bmiss count 36)
ath_bstuck_tasklet: stuck beacon; resetting (bmiss count 36)
ath_bstuck_tasklet: stuck beacon; resetting (bmiss count 36)

[Code].....

I'm still testing these devices and I hope I can use these devices in our production environment, which is not possible with these errors and outages.

I can't connect to AP2 right now. I think the whole wireless interface isn't working anymore, unless I power off/power on the box. But it's hard testing when it works ok for two weeks and then stops.

Cisco Wireless :: Clients Receive Wrong DNS Suffix Wap4410n?

Feb 21, 2012

Suddenly after more than a year of running fine, my wap seems to be giving all clients a bad DNS suffix which of course breaks DNS resolution internally (no problem with internet resolution).  I assume it's a wap problem since all of my wired clients receive the correct suffix.  I'm using a RVS4000 router if that makes any difference.

Relationship Between Link Length And Data Rate?

Aug 5, 2011

I have something I assumed but I am not sure if this wrong or not. I assume that every say 1 meter, I can send say 1 bits, so if I have 10 meters of link length, I can send 10 bits of data on that link. Do you have any argument to strongly support this assumption, preferrably a reference.

Cisco Wireless :: 4402 WLC / Android Clients Connecting But No Data Flow?

Jun 18, 2011

We have a controlled setup comprising of a 4402 WLC in our Data Centre and 1242AG LWAPs in our branches. The Wireless works well with a mixture of locally switched (h-reap) and centrally switched WLANs.I have a problem where Android devices don't seem to function as they should.I have been using an Android phone (HTC Desire, currently running 2.3.4 OS, but has been a persistant issue since 2.1) and it connects to my home wireless (and others) fine, but when connecting to the Wireless LAN at the office, it connects fine and gets assigned an IP address, but NO data flows. None, like there is no connection at all. I have just been using it on 3G. I figured it might have just been an issue with the hardware, so didn't bother too much.I have just purchase a new tablet (ASUS Transformer, Currently running 3.1 OS) and this does the same thing.I have tried publishing a new WLAN and have tried all types of encryption and authentication al the way down to open and still, no data flow. I have tried statically setting the IP details and still nothing.Interestingly, When I attended the last Cisco Live conference in Melbourne this year, I had my phone and it displayed the same behaviour on the Cisco supplied wireless, BUT, there was a second IPv6 enabled, when connected to that everything worked fine.

Cisco Wireless :: Sometime WAP4410N Drops In Repeater Or AP Mode

Sep 21, 2010

I also have problems with this type of accespoint, i have 2 (one in AP mode and the other in Client/Repeater mode).

Very often the connection between the pc and the repeater, and also between the 2 accespoints just "drops" out (like its resetting itself).

The accespoints are in enough range of eachother, so thats not the problem.

After the contact with Cisco here in Holland they said this type (4410N) is not stable with the 2.0.0.5 firmware, and its also limited to the B and G (not N) wireless, because else the accespoint will be even less stable??.

When can we expect a propper solution to this Cisco problem?

Cisco WAP4410N In Wireless Client / Repeater Mode?

May 26, 2012

1) Apparently, my Cisco modem likes to assign new IP addresses to things, so I didn't figure out the web access page until an hour in (was NOT 192.168.1.245)

2) Do I input the same IP address, subnet, DNS and default gateway as my Cisco modem? It has a wireless router and switch bundled in, should I use the wireless network's MAC address or the wired?

Currently, it's set to 'automatically configure':

IPv4
Local IP Address: 192.xxx.x.xx
Subnet Mask: 255.xxx.xxx.x
Default Gateway: 192.xxx.x.x
Primary DNS: 64.xx.xxx.xxx
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

I can access the page fine, but I cannot get the wireless client working...

3) I did a site survey and found my existing network and inputted its SSID and MAC address, but nothing happens. I still get one bar on my wireless devices indicating the AP isn't working.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Bridge / Repeater Mode

Sep 21, 2010

I have just been escalated to Level 3 support about my bridging issues.Bridge / Repeater mode configuration separated by 150 feet. Worked perfect for over 3 months.Upgraded firmware due to lockups starting to happen, now cant get the bridge / repeater to work longer than 15 min. After MANY support calls, new devices sent (version 2's) still no luck.

Talked to Marcelo at1 866 606 1866 and he stated that the Bridge / Repeater mode will not be supported farther than 50 Feet.(seems like a cop out to me) He didn't seem to have an answer as to why it worked for 3 Months other than interference Of which I have ran spectrum analyzers and see no Interference. **** even 10 feet away I cant get the units to work longer than 15 min.So I definitely think the 50 foot thing is a BS answer.

Also they have told me that External Antennas are not supported with these devices.Again even though People 500 feet away connect just perfect (without a bridge / repeater mode) with 50% coverage!

so here I am (spent 600 bucks) on bricks.. and nobody will support the device and I cant seem to get my money back.I have 8 customers with these devices, I am not going to use Cisco any longer. However will continue to fight this,as we all seem to have the same BS issues.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N-E V02 In Bridge Mode - Broken Connection

Dec 13, 2012

I have been using WAP4401N for almost a year in our office and I’m very happy of this device, never had any problem. So I bought 3 new ones for our customer which supposed to work in configuration below:

Network ----- AP1 –Bridge mode ----- AP2 – Bridge mode -----AP3 – Access Point mode.

Everything was working perfectly fine to the moment than bridge was broken. I can get access to all AP (obviously when connected to proper part of network) however not able to ping from AP2 -> AP1 or opposite so basically no link between AP1 and AP2. After reboot everything is working fine to next time (happens twice in two days). When I go to System Performance can see Connection is enabled but doesn’t work.

I upgraded firmware to latest version (2.0.5.3) but haven’t worked. When I’ve done some research found many users having similar problem with this device and basically they recommend to don’t buy. Unfortunately this is not an option for me as I’ve already purchased them.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Work In Client-Repeater Mode?

Dec 7, 2009

I have purchased 4 of these devices about 2 months ago and have experienced all of the issues reported within this thread.  The came with the 2.0.0.5 FW rev installed, so unless the 2.0.0.5 on the cisco DL site is different, nothing I can do with that.I've tried making them work as stand alone AP's, Bridge<-> Bridge, etc... all modes seem to lock up eventually needing a reboot to get any functionality back.Ultimately, I need to make them work in AP<->Client-Repeater mode.  I've not been successful in making them work in any mode for a prolonged period of time.

having just rfound this thread today, I have not tried hard coding the NIC's to 100/full, but will give it a try.  If it works, great, but then that would defeat the purpose of buying an N radio AP.  I would like the potential 300Mbps throughput.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N Clients That Are Farther Away Connect At A Very Slow Rate

Mar 14, 2011

I have an WRVS4400N configured as a WAN and Wireless router and can connect clients (PC's and laptops) wirelessly thru out the office. The clients that are farther away (10-15 meters and on another floor) connect at a very slow rate i.e. less than 10MBps. I have a WAP4410N configured as a repeater. Immediately after powering up it will allow connections to the 4400 and clients work fine for a 1-2 minutes, then the connections drop and I can no longer connect through the 4410. Nor can I ping the 4410 through the 4400 although right after the pwr cycle I am able to ping the 4410. After another pwr cycle the 4410 is available for another short period.I have attached some info on the configuration of the units and I also have the configuration files available.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Does Not Exceed 130Mbps In N Mode At Close Range

Sep 25, 2011

I have a WAP4410N which I have had for awhile and the performance was flawless at what appeaared to be 300 Mbps.  I udated the firmware recently to 2.0.4.2.  This is when the problems started.  Within 15 feet of the acccess point it would drop the connection and speeds were under 65 Mbps.  I factory defaulted the unit and reinstalled the firmware with no changes.  I run several other access points of differnt manufacturers and I get fantastic performance on draft N and G. I did check all the laptops for network adapter incosistansies. Have I made a configuation mistake?  I only changed the IP address to bring it into the range of other devices.  I use a sa520 router and a Trendnet Gigabit switch and a server with MS SBS 2008 which works well with all but the WAP4410N.

Cisco Wireless :: 802.11 WAP4410N To WAP4410N Backhaul Using N Protocol?

Apr 30, 2011

I have the following equipment:

Cisco 871W router
2x WAP 4410N APs running 2.0.3.3

I currently have 1 AP connected to the router via copper.  The AP to AP link is over 802.11.  I have attached a diagram reflecting the current topology.

The AP-to-AP link will come up utilizing B/G/N mixed mode; however, the connection is basically unusable.  About 30% of the traffic is dropped, while the packets that do make it have a consistently volatile latency, anywhere from 15 to 1500 ms. I have had success using G-only and B/G mixed.  The link is stable (I have had the best results with B/G).  The problem is, I didn't buy the 2nd 4410N to run the G protocol.  I would like to connect the APs running either B/G/N (hopefully negotiating to N) or N only.  I am wondering if there is a certain configuration I can utilize (perhaps using WDS repeater or bridge versus Wireless Client/Repeater?), or a firmware upgrade set for release that can make this happen for me.

Cisco Wireless :: How New 1260 Will Work In Mixed Environment

Aug 2, 2011

I am looking to slowly migrate some of our wireless devices (Aironet 1231 and 1232's) to the Wireless N spec - 1260's.I currently have four AP locations that I want to upgrade first before anywhere else. At the minute, these four AP's work on the 2.4Ghz G band.

how the new 1260's will work in the mixed environment. I believe I will need to purchase the 1262 (which is the dual band version) so that I can operate the AP in both the 2.4Ghz G band range and the 5Ghz N range at the same time, is this correct? If I was to purchase the 1261 (which is the single band version), will I only be able to operate in either th 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz, but not at the same time?

For the mixed environment, would you suggest the dual band version? Can I place the same SSID on multiple Radios if this is the case? Following example: Say I have the SSID called 'Company' - this at the minute is operating on the G band 2.4Ghz range. If I was to purcahse the dual band 1262, could I put this SSID on both the G radio and the N radio? Would clients with an N adapter automatically connect to the 5Ghz range (N Radio) and legacy G and B adapters automatically connect to the 2.4Ghz (G Radio)?
