Suddenly after more than a year of running fine, my wap seems to be giving all clients a bad DNS suffix which of course breaks DNS resolution internally (no problem with internet resolution). I assume it's a wap problem since all of my wired clients receive the correct suffix. I'm using a RVS4000 router if that makes any difference.
View 2 RepliesI've been having some problems with the Monitor Clients menu on a WCS 7.0 server, for instance if I go there and display the detected clients on the last 24 hours I get a different set of clients than if I go and generate a report of unique clients for the last day on the report menu. Is this normal?, shouldn't both reports get the data from the same place and give the same result?.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a WAP4410n which has been configured with a single SSID since implementation several weeks ago with no issues. I am now trying to add a second SSID and not having any success. Originally the second SSID was not being assigned a MAC address and thus not being broadcasted. After upgrading firmware to 2.0.4.2 I now see a MAC address associated with second SSID and it is being seen by clients, but they still cannot connect. I reset the AP to default settings and reconfigured from scratch but still no luck. I have two of these APs, the other one is still at FW rev 2.0.1.0 and has same issue (it does have MAC address associated with second SSID so I didn't bother upgrading firmware yet).
I have tried a few different authetication options, including disabling authentication, to no avail. Question - I do not see an IP address associated with the second SSID - is that the problem and if so, how do I fix that?
I have two WAP4410N. One of he accesspoints is connected to our wired LAN, called by now AP1. The other accesspoint is connected to the first accesspoint by WDS (Client mode) called now by AP2. I have upgraded both accesspoints to firmware 2.0.4.2. Both accesspoints are set to the same SSID and channel (6) and are set to mixed mode (B/G/N). After I two weeks they started to fail. When I connect to AP1 I don't reveive an IP-address of our DHCP server from our LAN. I'm able to connect to AP1 from our LAN. When I SSH to the box and I do an dmesg command, I see the following messages:

I can't connect to AP2 right now. I think the whole wireless interface isn't working anymore, unless I power off/power on the box. But it's hard testing when it works ok for two weeks and then stops.
Does the data rate to N connected clients go down to G rate if there is even a single G client connected?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a network setup as live-ssid. It is using the Interface for VLAN 14. All APs under the default-group AP Group obviously allows clients to DHCP an address from VLAN 14. This is working fine.
I created a new AP Group called 3rd Floor. This has the live-ssid setup, but instead of using the Interface for VLAN 14 it is setup for the Interface for VLAN 50. I have all the APs on this floor moved to the 3rd Floor AP Group.
The problem is that 95% of the clients on 3rd Floor are still picking up DHCP addresses from VLAN 14. I checked and all the clients are connected to the APs on the 3rd Floor. Only 4 Clients are getting an address from VLAN 50.
I'm not sure if something is configured wrong or not since some devices pick up the new VLAN and the rest don't. I've manually reboot the APs on the 3rd floor to see if that would fix it.
I have a nas device called mybooklive connected to my linksys e2500 router.Every device that is connected to the router does not append nyc.rr.com except the mybooklive one.I change and mad dhcp reservation for this device with the client name but it still appends. [code]

Cisco 871W router
2x WAP 4410N APs running 2.0.3.3
I currently have 1 AP connected to the router via copper. The AP to AP link is over 802.11. I have attached a diagram reflecting the current topology.
The AP-to-AP link will come up utilizing B/G/N mixed mode; however, the connection is basically unusable. About 30% of the traffic is dropped, while the packets that do make it have a consistently volatile latency, anywhere from 15 to 1500 ms. I have had success using G-only and B/G mixed. The link is stable (I have had the best results with B/G). The problem is, I didn't buy the 2nd 4410N to run the G protocol. I would like to connect the APs running either B/G/N (hopefully negotiating to N) or N only. I am wondering if there is a certain configuration I can utilize (perhaps using WDS repeater or bridge versus Wireless Client/Repeater?), or a firmware upgrade set for release that can make this happen for me.

A valid AD user can add either the @mydomain.com or the @another.com suffixes to their username and login successfully. This works fine with 5.3.0.40.2 but changes when I upgrade to 5.3.0.40.5 - users who use the @mydomain.com login ok but users using the Alternate UPN @another.com fail with the error: [code]

For awhile every now and then my computer decides it needs to 'acquire network address' on booting up. It never does succeed unless prompted by my going into Wireless Connections and pressing 'repair'. Yet my connection to the Internet is not impeded even while the little yellow ball hovers round mini monitor in the taskbar. It is hovering now as this thread is written. ipconfig reveals Connection Specific DNS suffix is missing, but the IP Address is there. My ZyXel 7087 router shows a fixed W/LAN/WPS and DSL light, but the Internet light is continually flickering, regardless of whether the computer is on. The TCP/IP is set to,'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'. Advanced TCP/IP Settings shows DHCP Enabled. DNS tab - DNS server addresses box is blank 'Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes' is dotted and 'Append parent suffixes of the primary suffix' is ticked. 'Append these DNS suffixes (in order)' is unchecked. WINS addresses box is blank. 'Enable LMHOSTS lookup' is ticked. NetBIOS setting - Default (checked) - Use NetBIOS setting from the DHCP server. If static IP address is used or the DHCP server does not provide NetBIOS setting enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Enable & Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP unchecked. While reading the WNC status the computer has found the Network address, but all above remains true.

Since I did not have the password I performed a hard reset.Now when I try to acces any website I receive error 105 ERR_ NAME_ NOT_RESOLVEDThe only difference that I can see now is that there is no longer a connection specific DNS suffix assigned.Could this be the issue? All machines can see the Internet through the router at all times. The desktops disappear from the laptop/netbooks but the wireless machines can be seen from the desktop computers but clicking on them gets 'Access Denied' message after a wait.3 desktops = XP, 1 98SE. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a ASA5505 and it has a vpn set up. The VPN user connects using the Cisco VPN client. They can connect fine (the get an ip address from the ASA), but they can't ping the asa or any clients on the network. Here is the running config:

We currently have an ASA 5520 communicating with 10 ASA 5510's, all on static outside addresses. I was asked to add 5 additional 5510's on dynamic address. All worked well in testing until it was decided that some of the dynamic clients needed to talk to each other.
My testing shows packets just dying in the 5520.
I have run into a major issue with an autonomous Cisco 1142AP. We were in the midst of a firmware upgrade when something went wrong and caused the AP to reboot in an error mode. Basically the unit was flashing Blue, amber, red. We unmounted the unit from the wall, connected to the console, and it would now only flash red over and over. We pulled out the cisco guides and performed a factory reset on the unit. This still does not work. and the contents of our flash directory is empty. All we get is a ROMMON AP prompt on the unit. If I issue a set command, I can see the default settings for IP, netmask, etc.
I cannot access the unit via the network, even after setting IP info and matching it up to my laptop. Since I have no network connectivity, I can't TFTP a new IOS file to the unit. I am stumped. How to get the config as if it was out of the box, or an alternate way to TFTP to the unit? [code]Notice the lines in red, I must have typed someting incorrectly.Now once the unit boots after being reset, I cannot even type in the CLI. Someting majorly screwed up here. Can the bootstrap be reinitialized?
WLC-4402-25-K S/W - Primary and Secondary Controllers were running 4.2.130 to begin with. Customer upgraded remotely using NCS - Primary to 4.2.209 and then to 7.0.230 and all that went fine and is in Production.
Then customer upgraded Secondary also using NCS also from 4.2.130 to 4.2.209 in preparation to upgrade to 7.0.230 and he lost contact with the controller. Sent a technician to site to troubleshoot by connecting to Serial Port. Technician #ESCAPED out of the boot sequence and from the BOOT MENU tried to boot the Primary Image and it failed with CRC error on Flash. He then tried to boot the Backup image and had the same problem. He then tried to manually load 7.0.230 - ER (Boot Software) using TFTPD32.EXE and that went fine. He then tried to load 7.0.230 "aes" S/W - The big over 70 MB file and went through most of the file transfer but failed saying:
ERROR: Transfer Failed.
TFTPD32.EXE said something like "Data Packet too Short or some such thing". Sorry did not write down what TFTPD32.EXE said.
Then we thought "may be" a power cycle of the unit is required after the ER Boot Loader Image was loaded. When we did that the unit died. That is - no communication with the Serial Port. We don't think we have any choice other than RMA - Do we?
Customer says he did read and follow this link - especially Table 10-1. {URL}. He said he used NCS to do the Upgrade. I a not familiar with NCS.
I have many 1262N and 1031AG APs. when the client is connected to the AP 1262N the performance is slower than it is connected to AP 1031AG (with more clients) in 2.4GHz.

When we setup a new site we put the IP address of the controller we want the AP to join first. Lately, I've noticed that regardless of which WLC IP I put first when I setup Option 43 the LAPs are always joining a particular controller.

The problem is that on the 3rd floor of the site users connect via wireless fail to connect and receive an IP. But they can not navigate. The second and first floor itself. As you see in the diagram are 3 routers, one per floor. The first is the only router that provides DHCP the other two routers are as simple Access Points.

I also have 2 routers that are flashed with DD-WRT (Linksys WRT54G and Asus WL-520GU) running as client bridges. The Netgear is 192.168.1.1 and the other 2 client bridges are 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.10.3. The Netgear router is performing DHCP giving addresses from 192.168.10.100 to 192.168.10.254. I have numerous machines connected to the Netgear, wirelessly and wired, and numerous machines wired to each client bridge. All machines have IP addresses that are 192.168.10.100, 192.168.10.101, 192.168.10.102, etc... Everything is working fine, but I have one question: When I access the Netgear router, it shows the client bridges as clients, machines that are wired and wireless to the Netgear router are listed as clients, but the client list does not show any clients that are connected to the client bridges. I assumed that since the router is performing DHCP that all clients would show up.

I have it configured with two SSIDs, one corporate (802.1x) one using WPA2 Personal.
I have no issues on the corporate, but I have found that Apple devices appear to detect it as a WPA2 Enterprise, and request a username and password.
If I enter the network manualy as WPA2Personal the devices joins the network ok. Then ocasionaly the device looses its link to the network and fails to pass traffic.

I have setup the WLC to authenticate to a MS Server2008 NPS for a WPA2/AES SSID. The connection is successful, but client authentication fails for wrong EAP-type. I believe this indicates a Windows7 client issue. What is the required client setup to satisfy the MS NPS?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have my Dell Laptop with model 14R5420, service tag <Admin Note:service tag removed per privacy policy~RK>. It runs normally on Win 7. However, when I upgrage to Win 8, the wireless card can not receive the driver. I list below what I did.
- Download all drivers for my laptop which compatible Win 8 64 bit by using my service tag .
- Install Win 8 (format disk label C)
- Run Bios Driver to flash BIOS
- Set up all other downloaded drivers
All devices work perfectly except the wireless card. In Device Manager, there is still an unrecognized device name Network Device. I know that is the wireless card.If I run my backup to Win 7, everything is normal.
I have 2 units Cisco WLC 5508 running software version 7.0.220 with 70 over units Cisco AP 1262N and 1242AG. Some of wireless clients having problem to get the correct IP address from the DHCP server. There are 2 units of Microsoft DHCP. Both DHCP server ip have been configured on the Interface at the WLC. The core switch also being configured with ip helper. I've attached the debug output of one of the wireless client during the problem.
