Cisco :: Encapsulation Of Routing Protocols

Dec 8, 2012

encapsulation of routing protocols. Where exactly in the OSI, or TCP/IP for that matter, model does the data of the routing protocol fit into ? Is it encapsulated inside the transport layer segment payload ? So far from the I've gathered, that's where it should fit.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Dot1q Encapsulation On 1721 Router?

enable dot1q encapsulation on two ethernet ports on a 1721 router.  I am able to configure it on the built in fastethernet port, but not on any interface provided by a WIC-1ENET or a WIC-4ESW.  I have an application that requires two physical ethernet ports that support dot1q encapsulation.

I am trying to configure a 4507 R chassis with Dual SUP but i cannot see teh switchpot mode trunk encapsulation dot1q?

I have typed:

interface GigabitEthernet5/1
description DOWNLINK toxxxxxx
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 11 mode on
!
I have have searched all other commands and sub-commands but could only find dot1q-tunnel which I beleive is for QINQ or some QoS featues and lot for L2 encapsulations?

the puzzling is:

XXX-Core4507#sh int gi5/1 trunk

Gi5/1       off              802.1q         notrnk-bndl   1

when I connect the dostribution switch a 3507 to this int gi 5/1, both interfaces do come up?

Cisco :: Switchport Trunk Encapsulation Not On Every Switch?

Jul 19, 2012

I've been studying my inter-vlan routing , mainly in this case routing on a stick. I noticed through packet tracer that the 2960 switch doesn't allow for the '(config-if)#switchport trunk encapsulation' command, but the L3 3560 switch will.I am very concerened about this since VLANs are a main topic. What perspective will Cisco be seeing this from for the CCNA exam, I test in 12 days. I have embedded a packet tracer screen shot for more information in case I didn't word this right (which happens all the time to everyone it seems like in NW'ing now and then if not alot).

PK5000Z Nat Strict Encapsulation Fail

Mar 12, 2011

I recently purchased a Zyxel PK5000Z modem from qwest, upgrading from my M1000 actiontec. My reasoning was that port forwarding was not working as part of the router on the actiontec, and the pk saved me some money on my bill. So, what I always start out doing on modem/routers is restrict DHCP to 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.10, limiting the number of devices that could connect, and I don't know if that really matters or not for this problem, but figured I would throw everything out there. So....My actual problem is that now when boot up xbox360 I get a xbox360 live "nat strict" error. I have all the ports suggested for xbox, and the particular games forwarded, and DMZ turned on to the static IP I assigned to the xbox. I started out assigning a static IP reservation in the router for the xbox (the one I set on the xbox), but soon found not needing this. I ran the firmware diagnostic tool in the utilities menu and the "encapsulation test" failed, I called qwest, they have no clue, but sounded like a level 1 dude, but he authorized a new actiontec pk5000.

Cisco WAN :: 2620 Router / ASA 5505 And Qwest T1 With Ppp Encapsulation?

Mar 20, 2013

I am trying to setup a cisco 2600 router that will be used to connect to a Qwest internet T1. I will have a Cisco ASA firewall behind the router so that I can build a site to site VPN tunnel. Qwest requires PPP encapsulation. The Lan side network is 10.2.0.0/16. Qwest gave me their serial IP address and my serial ip address which was I used to configure the route. The ethernet interface was configured for the local Lan side subnet and i natted both the inside and outside interface of the router. I am not sure if this is correct. How do I configure the router so that I can use one of the available public IP Addresses as the outside interface of the ASA?

Cisco WAN :: Zone Based Firewall On ASR1002 With Xconnect Encapsulation Mpls

Apr 3, 2013

we have an ASR1002 running zone-based-firewall with 2 zones:

zone_ouside
zone_ph

I have a common ZFW-configuration on that interfaces, e.g.

<code>
class-map type inspect match-any pass_cmap_in
match access-group name pass-ipv4-in
!
class-map type inspect match-any ph_cmap_in
match access-group name ph-ipv4-in

[code]....

There is some basic stuff in the Access-Lists; direction ph-ipv4-in contains basically "permit ip any any" and ph-ipv4-out contains some permits for certain services, but nothing else. The pass-ipv4-in/out ACL contains particularly the udp-500/4500-stuff as well as gre/esp/ah.

Here are the zone-pairs:

<code>
zone-pair security zone_ph-zone_outside source zone_ph destination zone_outside
service-policy type inspect ph_pmap_in
!
zone-pair security zone_outside-zone_ph source zone_outside destination zone_ph
service-policy type inspect ph_pmap_out
!
</code>

[code]...

The xconnect is only built up correctly when I configure the interface in the zone_outside. The destination for the xconnect is an ASR9k. If I do not configure the zone on the L2VPN-Interface, only arp-packet are allowed to tgo through the tunnel.

The L2VPN connects a branch office to the network of "PH". Now the trouble starts: when they are putting a host in the branch office, DHCP via the L2VPn works fine, they can ping anything from the branch office-PC in their local network and reach all internal servers etc.

BUT if they want to go to a destination outside their network, it will not work properly. For example, the branch-office-PC can ping 8.8.8.8 fine, but when they try to connect to a website, e.g. www.google.com, they run into a timeout. Netstat says, that the http-syn is sent, but no ack is received.

On the router, I see:

Session 1178BAE8 (x.y.225.250:2370)=>(173.194.35.151:80) http SIS_OPENING

whereas x.y.225.250 is the PC connected via L2VPN in the branch office to their local lan. When they put the same machine in their local lan directly behind the router (without l2vpn) everything works fine. When I switch off the firewall on the Gi0/0/0-Interface, the PC from the branch office also reaches its destination, so for me it looks like the firewall inspects the traffic going via Gi0/0/1 and L2VPN, what in my opinion, it should not do....

Protocols / Routing :: Hosted VPN / IP Forwarding / Routing And Bridging?

Apr 5, 2011

I have got a PC at work (Windows XP Pro SP3) that is on two networks with the IPs 10.20.30.167, subnet 255.255.255.0 (internet enabled) and 10.0.0.20, subnet 255.255.255.0 (no internet). On the 10.0.0.X network there is a gateway with the IP 10.0.0.200 allowing access to another network; 192.168.60.X, subnet 255.255.255.0 (no internet). I have added the route on my work PC to access the 192.168.60.X network via this gateway and I can access all PCs on all three networks from this PC.Now, I am using LogMeIn Hamachi so that I can access the networks at work from home. The PC at work is the 'gateway' PC on the Hamachi network. When installing Hamachi it created a new network connection and bridged this connection with my 10.20.30.167 network adapter to allow access to the 10.20.30.X network from an external PC when connected using the Hamachi VPN connection. I have manually configured my Hamachi connection on my PC at home to the IP 10.20.30.169, subnet 255.255.255.0, with the default gateway set to 10.20.30.167. I can ping all computers on the 10.20.30.X network from my PC at home.

I then added a route on my PC at home for 10.0.0.X to go via 10.20.30.167 (the 'gateway' on the Hamachi network). I also enabled IP forwarding on the 'gateway' PC (my PC at work). I can not ping any PC on the 10.0.0.X network from my PC at home apart from 10.0.0.20 (the other NIC in the Hamachi gateway PC) and 10.0.0.30 (another PC on the 10.20.30.X network that is also on the 10.0.0.X network).Now, with IP forwarding enabled on the Hamachi gateway PC I would assume after adding the route on my PC at home for 10.0.0.X traffic to go via 10.20.30.167 that I would be able to ping all PCs on the 10.0.0.X network...I also tried adding a route on my home PC to send all traffic for the 192.168.60.X network via 10.20.30.167 which has a route via 10.0.0.200 to the 192.168.60.X network, but this also did not work.I then tried adding the 10.0.0.20 network adapter into the network bridge that the Hamachi connection made, also keeping both IPs (10.20.30.167 and 10.0.0.20) on this network bridge by adding them into the 'IP Settings' in the 'Advanced TCI/IP Settings'. I also added the 10.0.0.200 gateway for good measure. I still cannot ping any PC on the 10.0.0.X or 192.168.60.X networks from my PC at home.

I have also added the route to the 10.20.30.X network on a PC on the 10.0.0.X network to go via 10.0.0.20 and tried pinging a PC on the 10.20.30.X network but this also has not worked. Also setting the default gateway on a PC on the 10.0.0.X network to 10.0.0.20 does not allow this...Surely bridging the networks 10.20.30.167 and 10.0.0.20 on my work PC would allow another PC on the 10.0.0.X network to access the 10.20.30.X network after adding the route or setting 10.0.0.20 as the default gateway?

Protocols / Routing :: Windows 7 Routing Traffic Between VPN And NIC?

Sep 2, 2012

I have two computers. Computer A is connected to the internet through GSM network. Computer A also have NIC adapter which is connected to local network with IP 192.168.33.10/24.

Computer B in connected to internet with DSL connection.

On both machines I use TeamViewer to make VPN secure tunnel between this two computers. Computer A gets IP:7.200.100.2 Computer B gets IP:7.200.100.3

How can I access from computer B to specific device with IP 192.168.33.250 which is on local network of computer A?

Is it possible to route traffic from VPN to other local network, or it is some possibility to use port forwarding from VPN connection to specific IP address on the local network to specific port number?

Protocols / Routing :: Escalate An Internet Routing Beyond My ISP?

Apr 5, 2013

We have a PPPoE DSL link with a dedicated IP providing by a small ISP(ISP A) in Canada. We are having trouble reaching a small group of IPs in the US to be able to access some client resources.We have eliminated all possible local issues by removing the firewall and making a direct connection to the ISP. We have also had numerous tests prove successful when we use other local ISPs.

Trace routes show that the packets get dropped a few hops from the destination on a US ISP(ISP B).The routes even appear to be very similar to the other ISPs we tested. We escalated to ISP A and they say that everything is working properly on their end and the problem is with ISP B. They claim they "have no partnership with ISP B and therefore cannot create a ticket to get it resolved". I tried calling ISP B but I get nowhere because I am not a customer of theirs.

My solution is to give ISP A the boot, but management has denied that request because of the amount of effort required to switch over. How I can escalate this? Is there anyway to go over and above the ISPs?

Protocols / Routing :: Connect Two Net On Same Lan With Two Gateways

I have two different networks on same LAN.One net has public 2xx.x.x.x IPs (some on DMZ, they are servers with their own internal firewalling) and goes through a GBeth switch to a Cisco 25xx router for accessing HDSL modem with several HDSL trunks and then Internet. That router is configured to let external IPs access only DMZ IPs, of course.The other net has 192.168.x.x IPs and goes through another GBeth switch to a DLink router to access ADSL. Mainly for download traffic at a low flat cost.I would like to have a way to let the 192.x.x.x machines access the servers on the DMZ of the 2xx.x.x.x net without going outside the physical LAN. The servers host mail services and so sending heavy attached documents needs a hi-speed LAN connection and certainly not the ADSL upload capability. Not to say about servers web contents maintenance.
