Connecting To The Network Is Taking Longer Than Usual
Nov 24, 2012
I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7. The problem is that every single time I try to connect to any wireless network, I get a message that says "Connecting to the network is taking longer than usual."The network almost always connects eventually (about 2 minutes), and once connected there doesn't seem to be any other problem. This has been going on for about 2.5 months. It began shortly after I restored the laptop to factory default.

Mobile devices are saturating our medium sized enterprise network. Examples of these devices are iPhones, iPads, Kindles, Droids, etc¦ When a device is authenticated on our APMobile wireless network and downloads updates, email, or music our Network bandwidth is consumed. Services/Applications are no longer available, such as VoIP. Basically, this is an internal DoS.I have done some research and an example of this problem is an ARP Storm but currently clients obtain IP addresses form our DHCP server, which acts as a proxy for the clients and if effective against deliberate attempts to craft packets that create ARP Stormť. In addition we configured the WLC to disable ARPunicast processing via the CLI.The following link is from Cisco's site. It is the ARPstorm that we originally thought was the cause but after more researching we found it wasn't this exact issue - http:[url]....why iPhones frequently take down our network? Could this be a configuration issue with our firewall (Cisco ASA 5520 running version 8.4(2))?

I have removed all port forwarding and enabled DMZ? I made sure the DMZ IP matches my internal IP. DMZ still not taking effect. One thing I noticed is that when I visited [URL] it showed a different IP then what was assigned to my router itself.
Modem > Linksys Wireless > Computer
Should the Linksys Wireless be in gateway or router mode?

Background: This weekend, I lost my internet connection at home. I called my ISP and they sent someone over. The guy rewired the entire house (our ISP is also our tv cable provider), because he felt that our signal was probably weak due to the wiring. Long story short, after two hours of rewiring and fixing the cable outside out house (chewed through by a squirrel), he said the modem's signal was back to normal and left.
When I plugged the router; however, it refused to hold the internet connection for more than a few seconds. On the front panel, the planet-shaped light turned orange, then blue (for a few seconds) and then turned off entirely. I tried another few times and got the same result. At best, it stayed connected for a minute, until I rebooted my computer. The laptops in our house do read the presence of the router, so it's safe to assume that the problem lies with the router's capacity to receive the signal.

I have an Inspiron 1521 and while I can find and connect to a network easily and quickly; it takes 5 minutes or so for it to really work. My icon says it's "identifying the network". Is there anything I can do to speed up this process?

I just installed Tomato firmware (details below) on my wireless-N router and everything appears to be working fine on the router's end. I can connect to the Internet properly with a wired (Ethernet) connection; in fact, that's how I posted this question.
What I cannot do is connect to the router wirelessly in any way. At first, I thought that something was wrong with my wireless security settings, because I read about some incompatibilities between Windows 7 and AES encryption. However, when I changed to TKIP, the issue persisted; when I switched from WPA2 Personal to WEP, the issue persisted; and when I disabled wireless security entirely — just for testing purposes — the issue still persisted.
My Internet search for this issue brought up a lot of old forum and mailing list posts, most of which were useless. The only one that seemed promising suggested disabling Afterburner, but that came disabled by default on my install. I did try enabling it and then disabling it, but it had no apparent effect.
In case it's relevant: before I installed Tomato, I had a somewhat funky install of dd-wrt on the router. The first thing I did after installing Tomato was a full clean of the nvram through the web GUI's Administration → Configuration → Restore Default Configuration menu.
What do I have to do to get wireless running? I only have one computer available at the moment, but I'll try to update later if and when I can borrow more devices for testing.
Assorted specs:
Linksys WRT160N v3
Tomato Firmware v1.28.9054 MIPSR2-beta K26 Mini
Linux kernel 2.6.22.19 and Broadcom Wireless Driver 5.10.147.0 updates
EDIT:This is a computer issue, not a router issue. Two smartphones with wi-fi connections and another computer are all able to connect to the wireless network with no problems. However, the original computer was able to connect to the same router just fine before Tomato was installed. It has an internal wireless-B/G card, and I had Tomato set up to broadcast G-only, so it should have been compatible.
EDIT 2:The computer in question was the only device in the house that wasn't set up for wireless-N, so I went out and bought a Wireless-N USB adapter and changed Tomato to be N-only. Using the new adapter, I get connection again. I suppose it's possible that the computer's OEM internal wireless card failed at exactly the same time that I installed Tomato on the router, but that would be one heck of a coincidence. I'll see if I can connect to some other G or B network next time I'm around one....

I wonder if is posible to have (again) the usual redirect after log in. On DIR-635, DIR-855 after log in you get redirect to the STATUS if WAN connection si functional, else you get SETUP. Now, on DIR-825 even if WAN is active/functional the redirect is to SETUP page.

I'm looking for troubleshooting LMS 3.2.1 and the ping/ICMP traffic it transmits.A lot of my devices are receiving a lot more pings from LMS than I would have anticipated.I don't run PING sweeps in Device Discovery or CM-UT. I've even disabled DFM polling in a hope to trace the source of these PINGs. Any list of which modules use PINGs so I can turn them off and track down the offender.I really only want to manage the known devices I already have via SNMP alone. I don't require LMS to be PINGing for discovery or reachability purposes.

I have a Dell Optiplex running XP wired to a Netgear router. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1501 running Windows 7. When I got the new router everything programed easily and I could retrieve files from my desktop and print remotely. Sometimes I would have to "refresh" before the laptop would detect the desktop but now it will not detect the desktop or the printer. I suspect that a Microsoft Update did this but just guessing. I went back and deleted the updates that downloaded around the time that this stopped working. I have tried every thing that I can think of to get it back working but can not get it fixed.

I'm trying to see if I can fix my friend's NAS which apparently has some pretty important data on it that wasn't saved anywhere else. They actually had the Geeksquad look at it and they've come to the same conclusion I have so far, but I figured I would ask the internet before I gave the thing back to them and said Geeksquad was right.
Anyways, they have this 5 drive RAIDed NAS which apparently just stopped showing up on their network. I borrowed it from them to see if I could figure it out. It turns on just fine and my router assigns it an IP address, but the IP address just takes me to a blank LaCie dashboard screen. It's weird because it's clearly running it's web server because it's just a gray background with an empty white box and "(c) LaCie 2010" at the bottom. No content at all.
Additionally, I tried installing the LaCie Network Assistant on my home computer and it says it cannot find any network disks. I've tried the "wake up a device" where I enter the mac address, but that doesn't do anything.
All the lights are solid blue on the front and over all the drives so it doesn't appear a drive has failed or something. Even so, that wouldn't really explain the blank dashboard right?

I work next to someone who has been complaining constantly about how his computer will give him some kind of "Access is Denied" error on one of his network drives almost every time he uses it. Other network drives on the same server work. Because it can be fixed by rebooting, the IT person has filed it as low priority / given up on fixing it but I would really like to shut him up but I can't find the answer in google. His computer is Windows 2000 SP4 and the server is Windows NT 4.0.
Edit: It happened again and I was able to get the actual error message. "H:DIST is not accessible The specified network name is no longer available"

There are 2 locations to choose from. One location requires me to run longer CAT6 cables. 7 of them. The other location requires me to run a longer RG6 cable. (the CAT6 runs would then be about the shortest they could get)So, I guess I need to know which can handle running parallel with power cables better, 25feet of RG6 or CAT6?The parallel with power cable is only for about 6-8 feet, but that's already more than it should be for CAT6.

My laptop all of a sudden can't connect to my wireless internet connection and also seem unable to find any other wireless network but mine.I recently moved to a new flat, but brought my old modem/router with me (Scientific Atlanta 2434) and use the same ISP. Last week everything worked as a charm, but at the new location my laptop won't connect to my network, though I can connect to it through my mobile phone. My laptop only seem to find my own network ("Fidel") but with my mobile I can pick up 10-15 different networks from my flat. Connecting my laptop to the modem with a cable works all good. I tried to remove "Fidel" from my networks and added it again, typing wrong password gives a message saying "wrong network key" so my laptop and the modem seem to shake hands at least. Yesterday when trying I actually got connected, but the connection died after a few minutes and I wasn't able to connect again.Windows device manager display no errors nor conflicts around the ethernet controller or network adapter. Have tried to update the drivers through the device manager as well but it says they are up to date.Windows version is Windows 7 Home Premium.Don't know if my ISP uploaded new firmware to my modem when I connected it in my new flat, but on the other hand I can't see why this would affect my laptop's ability to pick up other networks in my house? I have Dell machine with Win Xp3 loaded, on my local network (and other computers). I set NIC card "Link Speed & Duplex" to autosense & make direct connection to my modem and works ok.When I plug into the network router I get the 'Cable is unplugged' and no Internet connection.I can change the "Link Speed & Duplex" to 10Mbps/Full Duplex and get intermitten connection. Also when I copy a file from Mapped drive I get "Cannot copy xxx - The specified network name is no longer available".
1. the NIC software is recently updated PRO/100 Adapter NDIS 5.1 driver
2. Although Microsoft has suggested Symantec < ver 4 has had an endpoint problem, I have 10.1.6.6000.
3. TCP/IP Properties are on automatic like the other computers.

The other day while I was browsing the internet all of a sudden my internet stopped working. I look down below and try to connect to the network again but it no longer shows my network anymore. I went into the room of my router and it looked fine. All lights were lit up like they should be. I turned on my Laptop to see if it was just a problem with my desktop but it's still not showing my network either.
I have restarted my router and reset it numerous times and it has still yet to show my network. It only seems to work if I connect it to my Laptop with an Ethernet cord. I have two different routers (Both Linksys) and they both do not work.I also have two different wireless adapters (D-Link & Netgear) and they both do not work

I was having an issue with Comcast phone and internet services.Comcast had me disconnect and reconnect my modem and router. When service came back to normal one of my network connections was no longer available to me. I have two connections (one for use at my home which is a secured one) and one I use when I go to my sons home. My computer now only allows me to connect to a network called "Linksys" which may be available to the public. The connection I want to use shows up if I go to control Panel/View Network Status/Manage wireless network, and it is the first choice on the list, but the computer always uses the unsecured "Linksys". I'm afraid to do my banking over that network but I'm also afraid to start fooling with it and having no network. [code]

Network hub, model f5l009 not registering as a connected network USB Hub. Therefore, unable to update firmware. Devices connected to HUB are of course also not showing up. Reinstalled drivers. PC Windows 7 home pro on Comcast and a Cisco router. Firewalls are set to "allow". Only change in system is from internet providers to "Comcast". What might be causing the problem? Tried connecting directly to the Comcast router and that didn't work. Tried a hard reset on the HUB and that didn't work. If this device has failed is there a way to replace it?

we were having problems with our netgear router (DGN1000) mainly with connection when online gaming with PS3, generally poor connection - so purchased a TP-Link router (TD-W8960N). We could usually access the netgear wirelessly on our laptops Dell and Acer Aspire 4820T (both Windows 7) without any problems and were still doing so last night. However hubby attempted to install the new router last night and all seemed to go fine but after installing we couldn't connect to the wireless network through laptops, iphone ps3 etc - even though we could see the network with excellent strength, after hours of trying called TP-Link they went through everything they could think of and still no joy. Gave up in the end and went to reinstall the netgear Router and now we have the same problem with this router, even though earlier in the night it wasn't a problem - we deleted the previous networks so there was nothing stored in memory & tried everything we can think of (although neither of us are brilliant with IT we do usually get by).We even set up an unsecured wireless network (on both routers) and still couldn't connect .
