Can No Longer See Network

Mar 12, 2012

I have been using my wireless (linksys) for years now and just recently my wifi network no longer shows up on any of my devices (laptop, phone, etc). I am able to hard wire into the linksys and my laptop works but when I try to connect wirelessly, I can't even see the wireless network, I am only able to see my neighbors.

Home Network :: Desktop No Longer Listed Under Network Of Laptop?

Oct 30, 2012

I have a Dell Optiplex running XP wired to a Netgear router. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1501 running Windows 7. When I got the new router everything programed easily and I could retrieve files from my desktop and print remotely. Sometimes I would have to "refresh" before the laptop would detect the desktop but now it will not detect the desktop or the printer. I suspect that a Microsoft Update did this but just guessing. I went back and deleted the updates that downloaded around the time that this stopped working. I have tried every thing that I can think of to get it back working but can not get it fixed.

LaCie 5big Network 2 Drive No Longer Shows Up On Network?

Aug 11, 2012

I'm trying to see if I can fix my friend's NAS which apparently has some pretty important data on it that wasn't saved anywhere else. They actually had the Geeksquad look at it and they've come to the same conclusion I have so far, but I figured I would ask the internet before I gave the thing back to them and said Geeksquad was right.

Anyways, they have this 5 drive RAIDed NAS which apparently just stopped showing up on their network. I borrowed it from them to see if I could figure it out. It turns on just fine and my router assigns it an IP address, but the IP address just takes me to a blank LaCie dashboard screen. It's weird because it's clearly running it's web server because it's just a gray background with an empty white box and "(c) LaCie 2010" at the bottom. No content at all.

Additionally, I tried installing the LaCie Network Assistant on my home computer and it says it cannot find any network disks. I've tried the "wake up a device" where I enter the mac address, but that doesn't do anything.

All the lights are solid blue on the front and over all the drives so it doesn't appear a drive has failed or something. Even so, that wouldn't really explain the blank dashboard right?

Sharing :: The Specified Network Name Is No Longer Available

Oct 24, 2011

I work next to someone who has been complaining constantly about how his computer will give him some kind of "Access is Denied" error on one of his network drives almost every time he uses it. Other network drives on the same server work. Because it can be fixed by rebooting, the IT person has filed it as low priority / given up on fixing it but I would really like to shut him up but I can't find the answer in google. His computer is Windows 2000 SP4 and the server is Windows NT 4.0.

Edit: It happened again and I was able to get the actual error message. "H:DIST is not accessible The specified network name is no longer available"

Home Network :: Run A Longer RG6 Or CAT6 Cables

Aug 19, 2012

There are 2 locations to choose from. One location requires me to run longer CAT6 cables. 7 of them. The other location requires me to run a longer RG6 cable. (the CAT6 runs would then be about the shortest they could get)So, I guess I need to know which can handle running parallel with power cables better, 25feet of RG6 or CAT6?The parallel with power cable is only for about 6-8 feet, but that's already more than it should be for CAT6.

Laptop No Longer Able To Connect To Wireless Network

Sep 27, 2012

My laptop all of a sudden can't connect to my wireless internet connection and also seem unable to find any other wireless network but mine.I recently moved to a new flat, but brought my old modem/router with me (Scientific Atlanta 2434) and use the same ISP. Last week everything worked as a charm, but at the new location my laptop won't connect to my network, though I can connect to it through my mobile phone. My laptop only seem to find my own network ("Fidel") but with my mobile I can pick up 10-15 different networks from my flat. Connecting my laptop to the modem with a cable works all good. I tried to remove "Fidel" from my networks and added it again, typing wrong password gives a message saying "wrong network key" so my laptop and the modem seem to shake hands at least. Yesterday when trying I actually got connected, but the connection died after a few minutes and I wasn't able to connect again.Windows device manager display no errors nor conflicts around the ethernet controller or network adapter. Have tried to update the drivers through the device manager as well but it says they are up to date.Windows version is Windows 7 Home Premium.Don't know if my ISP uploaded new firmware to my modem when I connected it in my new flat, but on the other hand I can't see why this would affect my laptop's ability to pick up other networks in my house? D-Link / Netgear - Network Is No Longer Showing

Jun 16, 2012

The other day while I was browsing the internet all of a sudden my internet stopped working. I look down below and try to connect to the network again but it no longer shows my network anymore. I went into the room of my router and it looked fine. All lights were lit up like they should be. I turned on my Laptop to see if it was just a problem with my desktop but it's still not showing my network either.

I have restarted my router and reset it numerous times and it has still yet to show my network. It only seems to work if I connect it to my Laptop with an Ethernet cord. I have two different routers (Both Linksys) and they both do not work.I also have two different wireless adapters (D-Link & Netgear) and they both do not work

The problem is that every single time I try to connect to any wireless network, I get a message that says "Connecting to the network is taking longer than usual."The network almost always connects eventually (about 2 minutes), and once connected there doesn't seem to be any other problem. This has been going on for about 2.5 months. It began shortly after I restored the laptop to factory default.

When Service Came Back To Normal One Of Network Connections Was No Longer Available

Feb 14, 2012

I was having an issue with Comcast phone and internet services.Comcast had me disconnect and reconnect my modem and router. When service came back to normal one of my network connections was no longer available to me. I have two connections (one for use at my home which is a secured one) and one I use when I go to my sons home. My computer now only allows me to connect to a network called "Linksys" which may be available to the public. The connection I want to use shows up if I go to control Panel/View Network Status/Manage wireless network, and it is the first choice on the list, but the computer always uses the unsecured "Linksys". I'm afraid to do my banking over that network but I'm also afraid to start fooling with it and having no network. [code]

Can No Longer Connect Wirelessly To Secured Or Unsecured Home Network?

May 21, 2011

we were having problems with our netgear router (DGN1000) mainly with connection when online gaming with PS3, generally poor connection - so purchased a TP-Link router (TD-W8960N). We could usually access the netgear wirelessly on our laptops Dell and Acer Aspire 4820T (both Windows 7) without any problems and were still doing so last night. However hubby attempted to install the new router last night and all seemed to go fine but after installing we couldn't connect to the wireless network through laptops, iphone ps3 etc - even though we could see the network with excellent strength, after hours of trying called TP-Link they went through everything they could think of and still no joy. Gave up in the end and went to reinstall the netgear Router and now we have the same problem with this router, even though earlier in the night it wasn't a problem - we deleted the previous networks so there was nothing stored in memory & tried everything we can think of (although neither of us are brilliant with IT we do usually get by).We even set up an unsecured wireless network (on both routers) and still couldn't connect .

Cisco WAN :: WRVS4400N - Can No Longer Access Internet Or Login On The Network

Wireless Router No Longer Recognized?

Dec 8, 2011

I have never had to do anything to connect to my fathers netgear router or my own netgear router. I would just turn on my pc and have internet. After my brother touched my computer it no longer recognizes any wireless connection. My internet provider says that I need a new router. I don't think that is the problem because after my brother played with my computer it was unable to see any connections (not even neighbors which I normally see). This makes me think something is wrong with my computer not the router.

PS. I do have my wireless switch turned to on. My brother doesn't know what he did but will not be allowed to play with it again.

New LAN - Remote Desktop No Longer Works

Jul 16, 2012

Basically, I rebuilt my network over the weekend, to include a subnet, and can no longer connect my desktop to the remote PC. My old router was reset to defaults and re-configured. My PC has been wiped, reinstalled, and fully updated. The error I receive is "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: etc" I've only seen this error in the past when the PC I connect to was powered down. I have confirmed that everything is still set up properly on the PC I'm trying to connect to via an associate, and it is not powered down.

Old setup:

[My Win7 PC] ---- [old router] ---- [modem] --- [internet] ---- [Remote PC (Win 7)]
...............................
.........................other local PCs

New setup:

[My Win7 PC] ---- [old router] ---- [new router] ---- [modem] --- [internet] ---- [Remote PC (Win 7)]
.........................................................
...................................................other local PCs

1. I went into Windows firewall to allow Remote Desktop through, but it looks like that only needs to be set for the PC I'm trying to connect to. (Yes/No?)

2. I've forwarded port 3389 from the old router to my PC.

3. I haven't done anything yet to the new router, because I really can't tell if I'm doing the right things. The very first time I connected to the remote PC, it went right through, and I didn't have to change anything in the old router (I think - it's been awhile). I really don't know where to go from here, and it looks like the setup options I've found in the forum so far (static IP, port forwarding, Windows firewall changes, etc.) leave me with more security risks than I had on the old network, and there seem to be some conflicting opinions about the setup process.
