Usually when i go to type ipconfig - under IPV4 - i get the internal IP address of my PC. which is usually 192.168.X.X But today, I get, what looks like an external IP, when i type "ipconfig". I get 89.X.X....

I am able to hard wire into the linksys and my laptop works but when I try to connect wirelessly, I can't even see the wireless network, I am only able to see my neighbors.

I work next to someone who has been complaining constantly about how his computer will give him some kind of "Access is Denied" error on one of his network drives almost every time he uses it. Other network drives on the same server work. Because it can be fixed by rebooting, the IT person has filed it as low priority / given up on fixing it but I would really like to shut him up but I can't find the answer in google. His computer is Windows 2000 SP4 and the server is Windows NT 4.0.
Edit: It happened again and I was able to get the actual error message. "H:DIST is not accessible The specified network name is no longer available"
My NetGear WG111v3 router no longer lights up, so I assume it's broken. Is there a way to hardwire it in through the ethernet in the NetGear modem? It tried already but when I click on the software it just beeps at me and won't open.

Before this the laptop had connected fine to my home wifi secured with WPA2-PSK[AES]. After this problem tho it refuses to connect while it is secured. When not secure it functions fine and I am currently using it to type this post. I would have no problem continuing to use the wifi unsecured but another member of my household works with confidential medical information from home and is worried about the lack of security. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have never had to do anything to connect to my fathers netgear router or my own netgear router. I would just turn on my pc and have internet. After my brother touched my computer it no longer recognizes any wireless connection. My internet provider says that I need a new router. I don't think that is the problem because after my brother played with my computer it was unable to see any connections (not even neighbors which I normally see). This makes me think something is wrong with my computer not the router.
PS. I do have my wireless switch turned to on. My brother doesn't know what he did but will not be allowed to play with it again.
Basically, I rebuilt my network over the weekend, to include a subnet, and can no longer connect my desktop to the remote PC. My old router was reset to defaults and re-configured. My PC has been wiped, reinstalled, and fully updated.The error I receive is "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: etc" I've only seen this error in the past when the PC I connect to was powered down. I have confirmed that everything is still set up properly on the PC I'm trying to connect to via an associate, and it is not powered down.

1. I went into Windows firewall to allow Remote Desktop through, but it looks like that only needs to be set for the PC I'm trying to connect to. (Yes/No?)
2. I've forwarded port 3389 from the old router to my PC.
3. I haven't done anything yet to the new router, because I really can't tell if I'm doing the right things. The very first time I connected to the remote PC, it went right through, and I didn't have to change anything in the old router (I think - it's been awhile). I really don't know where to go from here, and it looks like the setup options I've found in the forum so far (static IP, port forwarding, Windows firewall changes, etc.) leave me with more security risks than I had on the old network, and there seem to be some conflicting opinions about the setup process.
A business network has had a Static IP Address for several years. Recently, something caused the settings to be changed to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically". As a result, pcAnywhere will no longer connect, and this is a critical function of the office. This has to get fixed. I've attempted to put the settings back to what they were (The IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, etc...) but now the Server will no longer connect to the internet when you setup the Static IP. The settings I am using are exactly the same as the ones from over 2 years ago. Now they no longer work, and networking is confusing to me.

Why is it that the dhcp on my router is no longer able to give out ips or rather it assign them as for as it concerned as it will list say 199.170.0.102 but the device will have none or make up one for it's self and never get the ip that the routers dhcp gave it this happens on all devices. I know power cycling will fix it temporally but usually it will start doing it again in a few hours also I know that I can use a static ip this was my way around this problem but I have one device that won't use nothing but dhcp a printer. I had an old linksys router that did this and I figured it's old it's slow time for a new one after a few months it started, some computers are on the fringe of being able to get a signal but are still fair also even with static ips they sometime stop connecting and we have to disable the connection then reconnect to fix it the router is a dlink 615 dual band set to only G/B because 1 most devices only g 2 the one computer that has a wireless n is 70 ft away and works better with g.
View 13 Replies View RelatedLast night on the xbox 360 i was suddenly experiencing alot of lag on other peoples voices. i took no notice of it and the next day i went on my laptop and alot of websites wouldn't load properly.i can go on google,obviously this and my hotmail(after having to wait a long time for the hotmail to load), but others such as ebay will not load. I cannot even access my router settings by typing in my ip address, instead i get a message saying the page cannot be found. also i was disconnected from xbox live with the internet to xbox live part not working. My internet has been very sluggish so after reading the thread about Router security and neighbors who might be stealing my internet connection via WIFI, I decided to check what kind of security I had. Turns out I have WPA and no unknown devices were connected at that time. Would like to get an email whenever a NEW device logs in...if that is possible. But while I was in there "futzing around" I did something terribly wrong. I followed all of these steps. Then I noticed that the router speed section had me listed at 145mbps. I had recently changed cable companies to one that provided faster interenet. So I figured I would bump that up to 300 mbps. I can no longer access any of my router settings. What did I do, and how can I undo it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy DIR-655 has been working flawlessly for several months since I bought it. It is connected to Road Runner High Speed Internet from Time Warner. This morning it will not access the Internet. It shows a wireless connection, and I can connect to it via direct wired connection, but no Internet. A direct connection to the Time Warner Cable Modem connects to the Internet just fine. Cycled power on all units, & Time Warner reset the modem. Nothing has fixed the Router.

View 0 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to 7.2 on my 5508 WCS, the 1310 APs will no longer join. After a call to TAC they said the 1300 and 1400 APs are no longer supported on WCS. Is there any plan to add them back as supported in future releases?I was thinking I could downgrade my backup 5508 and change the APs to autonomous. Or is there some easier way to make them autonomous?
Also, as a low cost outdoor AP, I guess I am reduced to putting 1262s in a NEMA box with outdoor antennas. The 1552s are way too expensive for the quantity I need. Is there some other inexpensive outdoor AP that will replace 1300-1400 series?
Just purchased a 3355 and installed, followed the set up no problems, added to WCS. Then WCS says no longer able to be reached.
Unable to ping, have to keep running the setup./opt/mse/setup/setup.sh seems, like the settings are not being kept.
Tried /opt/mse/setup/setup.log and sasys I have no permission, this is when logged in as root.
I was trying to learn a bit more about routers and therefore tried to acces one of our routers using an external ADSL line at work.The router is a ZYxel Prestige 324. Since I did not have the password I performed a hard reset.Now when I try to acces any website I receive error 105 ERR_ NAME_ NOT_RESOLVEDThe only difference that I can see now is that there is no longer a connection specific DNS suffix assigned.Could this be the issue? If yes how can I configure this?

(the CAT6 runs would then be about the shortest they could get)So, I guess I need to know which can handle running parallel with power cables better, 25feet of RG6 or CAT6?The parallel with power cable is only for about 6-8 feet, but that's already more than it should be for CAT6.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 7 computer and a windows 2000 on a wired network. The windows 7 and 2000 previously played nicely although it was a bit of a pain to get it to work the first time, don't really remember what the issue was. I have a big old CAD plotter connected to a parallel port on the windows 2000 computer and previously was able to use it from the windows 7 computer. I was also able to access any file on the windows 2000 from windows 7, it all worked fine a few months ago. I haven't had the win 2000 computer on for a while but recently needed to use the plotter. I now get a log-on error when trying to access the win 2000 from the win 7, but it shows up on networks. The log-on error window shows a domain with the name of the windows 7 computer listed as the domain name, but nothing is set to be on a domain. I can access the files on the windows 7 computer from the win 2000 computer with no issues in that direction. There is no home group set up (think that was the issue the first time) Windows 7 is always updating itself and I suspect that's part of the problem, I am guessing something went back to a default during an up-date but I can't find it.

For the past couple weeks, my download speeds have gone from 1.0 MB/s to < 100 KB/s up to 400 KB/s if I'm lucky.I used to be able to download files and watch videos at the same time with very little trouble, but now I only have enough bandwidth to either do one or the other without causing any problems. I thought my ISP had throttled my bandwidth, but I've run the Glasnost tests at url... and it came back as fine.It may not mean anything, but I should note that a few weeks ago, we had storms move through the area and lightning struck our house. It ended up shocking my mom through the USB mouse while she was using my computer, it blew out one of my computer speakers, and I believe it's the reason why the ethernet port on my motherboard no longer works.

On this Tuesday just gone, however, my brother took it upon himself to mess with the router whilst I was out. Apparently, his internet had been down since we'd had a power-cut on the Sunday, (My internet was fine, and always has been and was fully functional after said power-cut), and before then, it'd been going really slow, and sometimes cutting out. Okay, no problem. Now, the the thing is, that morning, I was on my internet, all happy, and when I returned home that evening, my PC wouldn't connect. My PC still refuses to connect, three days on. It's not even picking up that there's something plugged in.the router is actually flashing to say that my PC is plugged in and connected to the router. I know that there is nothing wrong with the modem or what have you, as I linked my laptop up to my PC via a cable earlier today to try and get it online. It's not a virus program problem, either. Like I said, it was working Tuesday morning, nine hours later, I come home, my brother restarted/unplugged the router, and now my PC won't connect. I should also note that he's now had to go wireless via a dongle, and everyone else in the house uses wireless laptops. I can't connect my PC to the internet with a dongle

i back up my very important server 2008 r2 data over a vpn to another computerall together its just under 5GB...it used to take 5 to 7 hoursnow the same data is taking 14 to 24hours...why would this be?im using netgear vfs338 vpn firewalls at each end
