I just had to get rid of a bad DIR-825 that I replaced a trusty old DIR-655 with and now I'm back. Anyhow, I can't seem to make the DDNS setting stick in the router. All of the information is correct, but it doesn't seem to want to login. When I click the enable check box, it tries connecting and then greys out and doesn't connect.

I have a modem from entel in bolivia on an usb-stick.
Hooked up this router the other day to replace my old Linksys G - which has been bulletproof for 8 years. I am now wondering if I made a mistake with this unit.
I set up DDNS - after much trial and error with dyndns it now works fine.I tried to set up NTP time function - does not work. Then I set time manually. Of course on reboot it looses the time since there is no internal time function. So I need NTP.In the course of troubleshooting I turned off DDNS and behold the NTP time function now works. I turn DDNS back on and NTP does not work.
I see no logical connection between these two functions, yet the seem to interact (or not) somehow.When the NTP is not working, on reboot the time displayed in the router is the last time that I MANUALLY set the time, even though that is grayed out since I have (supposedly) activated NTP.
If I do NOTHING to NTP and uncheck DDNS, after reboot the time is correct.I tried many different NTP servers all with the same result.Looking back on-line, I see the NTP function has been a continual problem with some folks (maybe those using DDNS?) in earlier firmware. Come on DLINK don't you think it's time to get this fixed?

would it be possible to add other DDNS providers to the router menu?E.g. I use dnsomatic.com as DDNS service (pretty much the same syntax/protocol as DynDNS, but free and more flexible).

I just set up DDNS for my home, and also set forwarding port 5000 for my NAS with an specific IP address 192.168.1.xx. Then, I use my office Internet to call DDNS xxx.dyndns.org:5000 to connect the NAS in my home, It is working OK (from outside to home) However, if I call xxx.dyndns.org:5000 by my home Internet, it is not working (from inside home to home). But if I directly call NAS' IP address 192.168.1.xx:5000, it is OK to reach it. So I think, DDNS used behind TD-8970 (inside home) is not working. TD-9870 is not forwarding port.
I don't know what do I miss in setup this WD-8970.
My previous Zyxel wireless router modem can allow me to us DDNS behind it with out any extra setting. Is it possible that there is still some bug in Firmware of this TD-8970?

How do I test my routers ddns? My computer went down. So, my adsl ip address changed. I caused the modem/router to reboot. But the new ip wasn't sent to the Host (dyndns.org). I had to update my ip manually on [URL].
I am assessing my 615 router remotely using port 8080. I can connect to it just fine but cannot make any changes to the router, they are ghosted out. I am logged in as administrator.

I'm a court reporter trying to set up a connection between my laptop and my court reporting machine, which has built in wifi capabilities. My court house has public wifi but there is always some interference which causes transmission between my laptop and machine to freeze. I was told I could create my "own wifi" between my machine and laptop if i bought a router. is this possible with this hardware?I don't need the internet or want an internet connection. I have the internal modem in my laptop. I just want to provide a connection between my laptop and writing machine wirelessly. That is, data being sent back and forth between the two. (Like your headset and smartphone connected with Buetooth). I can use the Bluetooth method to connect the two, but I opted for wireless connection because Bluetooth still can have some interference when attorneys come in the courthouse building with a Blackberry smartphone. I heard this router will provide a secured, private wifi connection between my laptop and machine.It doesn't say anywhere in the instructions that how to do this or I just don't know which method to use this router for what I want to do. Is it WISP, AP or BRIDGE, etc...?

I just bought a new wireless router and I currently using my older dlink dir-524 wireless router in my home.eason in buying a new one is because currently the dlink router is in the family room use to be a garage and my wifes imac is in our bedroom the couple rooms down not next door or anything, and the imac and even our smartphones when in our bedroom the connection gets disconnected then reconnected etc etc, basically signal strength is low initially when connected to the router.

I know the small biz switch supports VLANs and I think trunking as well--obviously the 2960 supports it. Is there a way with these devices to configure one VLAN for servers/net devices and another for regular end-user computers so that they still talk to one another, or do I need a different router in the mix?

I've been trying to re-purpose my E4200v1 as a Bridge, AP or some other thing that might work with wifi coverage in my home. I am using an Asus as the primary router. and I have Verizon Fios so I have a coax/ethernet router with its wireless switched off so that the Asus is primary. That works, but when I go to reset the E4200v1, I can get it to take a new IP address, but when I attempt to put it into bridge mode, as soon as I hit "save settings" I see the admin screen flash and it goes back to its origninal settings, instead of saving the new settings.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to stream music files to my A/V system. After weeks of encountering problems, I discovered that UPnP was disabled (by default) on the router. After enabling UPnP on the router, bingo......it worked. My A/V system has a Yamaha A/V receiver, which is a networking receiver capable of net radio and accessing/playing files on my PC. Net radio works fine. The problem I'm having is that when I shut down the A/V receiver, turn it back on, I can't access the files. I have to disable UPnP, save changes, and then reenable UPnP, save changes. When I do that, all is well and my receiver "sees" my PC and files. Shut down the receiver, turn it back on, back to square one and have to do the do the disable/enable routine again. PC is WinXP, using Windows Media Player 11. Seems the "enable" UPnP desn't "stick", even though it shows enabled on the setup page.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI understand router on a stick for inter-vlan routing but where I'm having trouble is having one of the vlans be public addresses. One of my clients has a rack in a colo where there is no router, i.e. their /24 public network has .1 of the network assigned to a colo router, then they have a 2960G switch in the rack that all the gear is connected to. Public IP's are assigned to certain devices / servers with .1 as their GW. Problem is, they also have a private range on the same switch with no vlans and things are a little 'cluttered' and there is no control of traffic.
The assets I have are a 2821 router with (2) GigE interfaces and the 2960G switch. A /30 network is going to assigned on the colo gear to use to push the entire /24 down to the cabinet. I'm going to NAT the local 10.100.x addresses on vlan 10 and I want the public traffic on vlan 20. During a recent test, the private traffic worked as expected but the public traffic didn't work. I don't need a complete config, more of a 10,000 ft. view of how this needs to be done so (a) traffic is vlan'd to keep things segmented, (b) I can static inside / outside public addresses from the /24 to reduce the number of public addresses being assigned directly to servers (some of this is unavoidable, but the less the better), and (c) I can NAT the local subnet to either to the /24 or the /30 (not much very much traffic in this way).
EDIT: The switch is a C2960S, not G. I cannot enable lanbase-routing, it is apparently unavailable.

As per the title, I just require 3 to 4 VLANS with inter-VLAN communication enabled.
In the past I have used this router with each port of the internal switch set to a different VLAN, with each in turn hooked up to an unmanaged switch. This has work fine for me but I want to dip my toe in the world of .1q VLANS and gain some added flexibility and neatness.
Since firmware 1.0.3 it seems my DDNS is not updaing with DynDNS since the last update.

I cant seem to connect to the router's configuration page (192.168.1.1) anymore, All the lights on the router are on and I tried to reset it to default settings several times but still it wont connect. I tried it on a laptop but I still cant get it to connect. I can surf the net just fine when using the ADSL modem though. I can ping the IPaddress 192.168.1.100 but can't ping the default gateway which is 192.168.1.1. I also tried switching to another cable just in case but to no avail.

I just acquired an Ipod Touch and am trying to set it up to connect to my exisintin DIR-615 router. It is about one year old, but I have misplaced all the info I had on it, including any password info. Trying to use the blue lit button on the right side of the router does not allow access to the Ipod, nor my daughter's Apple computer.
Are there changes I need to make or special procedures for Apple products?
Using DIR-601 hardware version B1, Firmware 2.00NA, I am debugging problems I've had with this router, so it is set up on my network so I can access it from both the WAN and LAN side. If I ping the router from the WAN side, I get a very fast response. But when I disable ping from the administrative tools from the LAN side and reboot the router, I still get responses to my ping! I know the router is responding because if I disconnect the WAN cable from the router (connected to "INTERNET", the pings stop. So the router is ignoring user settings at Advanced->Advanced Network->WAN PING! Looks like a firmware bug.

They are both set to DHCP as that is the only way i have been able to create a network that i can connect to the net through my router. Problem is it is constantly reconnecting and only getting speeds of 2mb dl and 1mb up. (I should be getting speeds of 30mb dl, 2mb up.)
