D-Link DIR-655 :: Possible To Use As Wireless Bridge From Main Router
Jun 27, 2012
Iv got an "old" dir 655 laying around as my secondary router and found out it had an USB slot for share port.In another room of the house Iv got a media center and an Usb printer. Can I use this dir 655 as a wireless bridge from my main router, so the media center and the printer can be connected? So both low level streaming and shared printer with share port.Or do you need to be connected directly to the dir 655 to use the usb and share port?

The 740N I got is pretty old now so I have another router and I want to use 740N as a bridge to extend my main router's wireless service. The main router has Mac Filtering enabled and I've entered the 740N's Mac address into the main router. I have switched off 740N's DHCP, changed it's IP etc. I can connect to 740N but 740N is not connecting to the main router. I've tried the same thing at my office where the main router is a 8961ND and I successfully bridged and connected the 740N but it's not working at my home.

Ive had this 655 for about a year now and it has been rock solid. But, there has been one slight issue.
And and all wireless devices can see each other and all wired devices can see each other....but the wired cant see the wireless and vis versa.
The wireless devices (W7 and Vista laptops) can see the wired devices when they are plugged in. But my phone and Galaxy Tab can only see whatever wireless devices there are (cant be plugged in). Even my wired Samsung TV cant see the shares on the Tab or wireless laptops (and vis versa). So, its certainly not a firewall or OS config issue.
Now, I made sure they are all connecting via the main SSID and not the "isolated" Guest SSID....but its acting like the main SSID is isolated from the wired LAN somehow.
Firmware 1.34. IPs for the wired and wireless devices are all in the 1.2 - 1.50 range.

it's across 3 floors and the current setup is a single wireless router DIR655 (1st floor), but the WiFi suffers greatly on the floor below/above.
I have sourced 3x D link switches and 2x more DIR655's and would like to have all machines/consoles/phones etc in the household on the same network. Is it possible to keep one DIR655 as the main wireless connection and have the other as pure AP's as well as keeping the same SSID?

I purchased a D-Link DGL-4500 to replace my aging WRT54G around a year ago, only to find it nowhere near as reliable. It's been collecting dust since.I'm wondering if there is a way to use it as a wireless bridge so I can connect it to my home network and then use it's ethernet ports to provide network access to several devices.

We currently use the DIR 655 in our home. I has a great range, and we've never had any problems. Our house is a very tall Victorian, so some areas don't get as strong a signal as others. I'd like to set up a few addition devices to extend the coverage of our network.
I installed a DAP 1522 as a bridge to our entertainment PC. After a while of trying to sort out how to configure it everything is working there. The 1522 is connected to the PC via cable.
I still want to extend the overall wireless range to better cover the lower floors and back porch.
From reading the manual on the 1522 I am a bit confused. I understand how it works as a bridge, connecting devices via cable. Will it also extend the range is set as an Access Point without needing the devices to connect via cable?

I have an old D-Link DIR-615 wireless N router that I am trying to re-purpose as a wireless bridge so I have network access in the back part of the house where I can't run ethernet wires.
I successfully installed installed DD-WRT on the D-Link and thought I had configured the D-Link into a wireless bridge; however, the D-Link just does not want to communicate with my primary Zoom Cable Modem / Wireless Router. Pings between the two devices return nothing. I disabled all security, they are on the same subnet (192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.6 for the D-Link), same SSID, etc.
I attached a word doc with screen shots of the settings on both devices.

I have at last got the wireless router today and set it up. A few teething problems but I have the internet and so does my wife now. And, I have my computer back! The new wireless router is a D-Link DSL-2740R. There are two things I can't get sorted out, I put admin into the user name and I can't seem to find a way to change the user name
I managed to get the laptop (WinVista 32bit my comp is Win764bit) seeing the media from my computer but not other files and printer. I had previously set up a user under 'share' to enable the link between the computers and using the old Belkin it worked fine. Alas that is not the case and want it to get the sharing going. The 'Share' user is still setup and I could not see it, or I have forgotten how to access it?

I have a DIR-825 in my basement at one end of the house and it works great. My problem is the signal strength is a little weak on the main floor at the other end of the house. I would like to add a second access point to cover that end of the house. Do I need to get another DIR-825 and wire it to the original or is there another option? I obviously don't need all the features of the DIR-825 for the 2nd AP, but I cant find a less expensive option that will still allow me to use both bands.

I have a network where I have two wireless routers wired to a third (main) router. I want to connect a third wireless (Linksys WRT 54GL) to the main router, but I want to connect wirelessly (without any cables). I have tried to bridge it,ie disabling DHCP and assigning a static IP address which is in the same range as the main router but still if i connect my laptop using the third router I cant log onto the internet and worst still I cant ping the main router. The main router is the one that is connected to the proxy server. My connections are as follows, from the wireless antenna the cable goes to the proxy server's wan port, the main wireless router is linked to the server's lan port.My server's LAN ip is 192.168.0.1 and the main wireless router is 192.168.0.2 I have two other routers which are wired to this main wireless router and their local IP addresses are 192.168.0.4 and 192.168.0.5 respectively. I want to connect a third wireless router to the main router but this time without using a cable. What i have done so far is I have assigned it the IP address 192.168.0.6 and I have disabled DHCP,all the other settings I have put the same as the main wireless router.

I have a wireless audio system using several Apple Airport Express boxes currently communicating using 802.11g through my Verizon FiOS MI424WR (Actiontec) router. I also have wireless security cameras and several laptops on the same connection. I occasionally have audio dropouts I suspect due to wireless bandwidth limitations. I have a Netgear WNR3500 Wireless-N Gigabit router that I would like to hang off of the Verizon router and move the Airport Expresses, which are 802.11N capable, to its Wi-fi connection. This would keep my audio streams separate from the video and other wireless traffic and take advantage of the 802.11N.I in configuring the router/s to facilitate this arrangement. I have numerous Windows machines (XP and Windows 7), mostly hardwired, on my main network along with a NAS containing my audio library. So all devices need to be able to see all other devices.

We have been unable to connect our PSPs to the new E2000, and after several hours we're ready to throw in the towel and go get a different router! The PSPs only see the "guest" connection when using the scan option, but cannot connect to it. Even after manually adding both the main and the guest info we are STILL unable to connect either of the PSPs We had an older router from your company which we had no issues connecting 6 desktops, a lappy, 2 psp, 2 ds, 2 xbox 360, and a Wii, as well as our smart phones. After this recent "upgrade" to the E2000 the PSPs CANNOT connect no matter what we do. It gives many different error messages.

I've been playing with this setup for over a month with no real success. I'm trying to use the DAP-1522 as a wireless bridge to provide connectivity to my entertainment center which consist of a PS3, Directv DVR and Internet ready TV. I tried the setup as described in the manual, but not getting to the internet. Initially I was able to connect the 1522 as a bridge, but the connection kept dropping, especially anytime I actually used the internet (downloading a VOD movie). While troubleshooting the dropping issue, I changed all the 1522 settings and now it cannot access the internet at all through. The WNDR3700 is routing my home network fine...it is setup on the 192.168.1.x address space. I understand the 1522 came setup for 192.168.0.x, is the 192.168.1.x/192.168.0.x thing jacking things up? I initially had the 1522 setup with the 192.168.1.x IP from my home network and the gateway set to my WNDR3700 (192.168.1.1)...should it be on the 192.168.0.x? I have updated the firmware to 1.31.

Just purchased the WR940N to use as a wireless bridge. I expected to be able to have the router join my wireless network, and provide Ethernet connectivity to 4 devices behind it. But I'm missing something in the configuration. I can get it on the wireless network, and manage it via the wireless network. But devices plugged into the Ethernet cannot get out to the Internet. Basically, I have a 192.168.1.x network, and the router is node 192.168.1.3 on the wireless network. I've turned off the firewall and DHCP on the router. The Ethernet devices behind it get an address from my network, but the router inserts its own address in as the default gateway, and my Ethernet devices do not have a route to my 192.168.1.x network, despite having an address on it.

I'm running the 1522 as a bridge with v1.21 firmware. I have 2 devices wired to it. I have Wireless MAC cloning disabled (not checked). If I scan my network using a tool such as ipscanner (http:url.....) the devices attached to the bridge are being listed with the 1522's MAC address - not their own.
The connected devices should be showing up with their own MAC addresses. The 1522's address should only be displayed IF MAC cloning is enabled and IF the cloning mode is set to Auto - is my understanding of this feature incorrect or is my 1522 not performing as spec'd?

While I have been VERY happy using my DIR-655 for the most part, all wireless routers have limitations for expansion across your home.I got my TrendNet TEW-640MB installed last night, and it talks to the 655 perfectly, and now I have 4 ethernet ports at distance across my house. I have also used a couple TrendNet TEW647Ga single port wireless bridge for other parts of my home, but with only a single Ethernet port, you still need a little switch/hub to get the extra ports.
Because these units speak .11N at 300 Mbps, it takes full advantage of the technology the 655 gave me when I bought it back in 2009 (??).

I recently bought the N750 wireless dual band router and I would like to setup a bridge with another router that I'm currently using.
I have followed the instructions in the documentation [URL]. But I've had 0 success in getting this to work.
How to get this feature to work?
Additional info:
I followed each step to the letter. In the last step when my router reboots I noticed that the System light doesn't flash. Which indicates that there is a system error (according to the user manual). But I'm unable to determine what the system error is because I can no longer log into my router's Administration page anymore.
in the instructions (link above) it says to disable DHCP, so I manually assign an IP address to my computer setting the gateway IP address to the IP address I manually assigned to my router. I can see that a connection to the router is established, but I'm unable connect to the internet and when I type in the IP address of my router I'm unable to get into the administration menu.
I checked the wireless connections on my source router and I don't see the IP address of the N750 router.

Trying to use TL-WR702N in bridge mode at a hotel. For some reason, every time I set the DHCP parameters to enable DHCP, then save and reboot, upon reboot DHCP is disabled. Of course, without DHCP then bridge mode is useless because I cannot then share the hotel wifi connection with multiple devices.Am I missing something obvious, or is there a trick to getting DHCP to be accepted?

I am trying to install a AIR-BR1310G wireless link between two buildings. I configured the setup in a lab and had everything functioning. Shipped it to the client who is now trying to install it. The radio link is up, but we are having issues with the remote Ethernet connection. The root bridge is connected to a WS-C3560G-24TS (core) switch. The port is setup as a trunk with a native vlan of 2 (our management vlan). [code] if I do a "show power-injector" on the remote radio (no Ethernet link), I get: "Received zero AutoMIB packet from Power Injector, Check to see if CDP is disabled on Fast ethernet" repeating. No other entries. If I do the same command on a unit with a link (root bridge) I get information about "Power Injector Port 0 speed 100Mb/s duplex full link up enabled yes" with a bunch of stats. Similar for "Power Injector Port 1". Power Injector Ports 2-4 as "down" and 5-6 as "disabled". Other than the 3 different patch cables they tried (all straight through) or a crossed cable (try tomorrow when they buy one), is there any other reason the port won't go Up/Up?

I have a brand new DAP-1522 A1 connected to an 802.11n wireless LAN in bridge mode. Running in the 2.4GHz band with WPK-2 and AES security/encryption.Everything runs fine 99% of the time, but once a day or so the wireless LAN connection on the DAP-1522 drops and then takes about two minutes to re-connect. It re-connects and then everything is fine for a day or so until the next dropped wireless connection episode on the DAP-1522. I know my 802.11n wireless network is 100% fine as during the dropped connection to the DAP-1522 I can connect directly to the 802.11n wireless network (running from my gateway/router) using my other computer, no issues.I've seen some posts on this forum that the A1 version of the DAP-1522 hardware is not 100% compatible with the 802.11n network standard and there will be intermittent wireless drops. If this is true, it's just insane. All I can say is I can't believe DLink would allow a product to be sold that won't work properly on 802.11n networks.I check the logs each time I see the dropped wireless connection and all that shows is the following.1) Negotiating connection 2) 4-way handshake success [mac address]There's no message in the logs about why the wireless connection dropped, but I assume it has something to do with re-newing a key for the wireless network as the successful key renewal messages are the only other messages in the log. When the wireless network dropped I don't see the successful key renewal message at the time I should see it.I thought this DAP-1522 would take 15 minutes to configure in bridge mode and then I'd forget about it. Spend too much time on this already, so a bit disappointed with this DAP-1522 and DLink tech support....though when it's connected to the 802.11n wireless LAN it works fine.
