D-Link DIR-655 :: Why Router Giving Two Separate Default Gateways And SSIDs
Jul 2, 2011
My router is showing two separate SSIDs, dlink and dlink 2 it only recently started doing this and around the same time my router has been constantly rebooting when there's little or heavy internet traffic.I have a DIR 655 Hardware Version: A4.Firmware: 1.21 NA
I refuse to go to any version above 1.21 as 1.21 is the most stable firmware for the 655, I have tried all other with terrible outcomes and wireless performance.I've looked around and most people think it's a joke or something, always saying it's probably a neighbors wireless, but that's impossible since I'm on an acreage and my neighbors are too far away for us to be receiving their wireless signals, and if I change the password and encryption type (WPA/WEP/WPA2) I have to change the security settings on both dlink and dlink 2.
Also I have the normal 192.168.0.1 gateway to access the router under the "LAN" section under Status on the router, but under WAN I have a completely different gateway that just recently showed up. I have no idea where this came from or what happened.

I have a scenario which i would like to discuss with you people. I have a branch office connected with the Head office using wireless radio bridge(point to point connectivity). Here is the configuration at branch office.Things are working fine until now. The branch office has a DSL internet connection and required to be shared among the users. option 1 (problem)DSL terminate on swtich and all clients have a DSL modem as their default gateway and ISP's DNS. Internet works fine but here comes the problem, now they lost the connectivity with head office. Now my question is i cant have two default gateways then what should i do?
I bought dlink dir615 router and want to configure in such a way that internet terminate on dir 615 and branch office pc's should be able to use the internet as well as get connected with the head office with default gateway configuration.

I have two servers running behind my D-Link DIR-655 NAT router. Obviously, I cannot allow outside access to both of them simultaneously without putting them on different external ports, which I don't want to do. (DNS can only redirect to the common external IP of my router, not the unique internal IPs of my servers.) The easiest solution I can think of to this is simply to put one of the servers completely outside of the router so that it grabs its own IP address from Comcast (and thus allows me to change my DNS records so that the destination IPs are different.) Is this possible, and if it is, how do I do it?
P.S. I've already tried putting one server into the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) on my router to no avail.

So network was running fine for about a year or so. Network consists of 1 Motorola SB6120 cable modem attached to a D-Link DIR-601 wireless router. All settings were default except for SSID and WPA password. One day I just couldn't access internet anymore. I've narrowed it down to the default gateway that is being given out through DHCP. The default gateway that is being given out is the IP of the modem (192.168.100.1) and not of the Router (192.168.0.1). I can't find any option on Wireless router to be able to force the gateway address when handing out the gateway IP. Theoretically I thought I should be able to put router on same subnet as modem as 192.168.100.2 but that still doesn't work. If I set the IP adresses statically on the PCs and give it the Gateway of the Router everything works fine. I should mention this is for my boss' house and basically I dont want him calling me everytime he has a friend come over and I have to talk em through setting up a Static IP.
And just for an example this is what I get if I use DHCP:
IP Address: 192.168.0.155
Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.0.1
Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1
And If I want it to work I have to change the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 I've tried updating routers firmware and reset to factory default numerous times. Is it possible for a router DHCP stop working?

I set up my new EA4500 last night, and configured the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands with separate SSIDs (as recommended). While I can see the 2.4Ghz band with all of my devices, I cannot see the 5Ghz band with any of them.I followed the advice given (including the settings shown) on the EA4500 FAQ.Title: Personalizing and connecting to the 5 GHz wireless band on a Linksys Wireless-N routerArticle ID: 21466.Did that *multiple* times, and still nothing. I do have a dual-band capable adapter (Netgear RangeMax WNDA3100 Dual Band Wireless-N Adapter) that I know works on 5Ghz (because I had it working on my old dual-band WDNR3700v1). Similarly, I have PCs sitting less than 20 feet away that were previously able to see the 5Ghz band on my old router, but are now unable to see it on the EA4500.

I have a RV042 router. The problem that I am having with it is that the DHCP is giving out the wrong Default Gateway and DNS Server. There is no option to change the DHCP server IP on any of the settings pages on the router. I am begining to think that there might not be a way to do it. I see that there is an option for the DNS under the DHCP page but the Public IP that is being handed out is not the one on that page. I also have 2 WAN connections hooked up as well a DSL link and a Cable link (the cable link is the primary one).
The following information is provided in an effort to resolve this issue:
IP of Router 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP Server (the one that is being handed out):10.0.0.1
IP of DNS (the one that is being handed out): 10.0.0.11
What I want to it be.
IP of Router: 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP 10.0.0.2
IP of DNS 10.0.0.2

I have a switch connected from the internet outtake in my apartment. This switch gives internet to two, or sometimes three computers, by cable. To get wireless I have a DLINK-615 connected after the switch. This solution works flawless for some time, just after the router is started or reset. If I go to speedtest.net both the upload and the download works flawless. However, after around half an hour it's virtually impossible to upload, which gives heavy lag in programs like skype and games. If you try to speedtest.net now the download is still fine, but the upload gives a result of 0.1mb/sec after trying to even start the test for 3-4 minutes.Router giving up upload completely
I've tried to change the IP in the router to prevent a conflict between it and the switch. The problem is still there whatever IP I choose though, I simply have no upload.I've also tried to disable the DHCP, mess with the MTU and to enable the Access Point mode with no result.

I have a DIR-615 Wireless N D-Link router. Simple setup, comcast cable modem ---> router ---> wireless signal to house. For some reason, kinda out of nowhere (can't recall precisely when it began doing this) the router is broadcasting 2 SSID's, one is my configured network, and another network named: D-Link_Wireless. Whats strange thou, is that some devices detect the D-Link_Wireless SSID and others do not. When I go into the router config, all I see is the one configured network, PanzerNet. I wouldn't care so much but I think it's causing some conflictions with my DNS address, making me have to constantly reset my router..

Buying a TP-Link W8961ND modem/router. Didn't work at all, except for a vague sense I got that the internet wasn't spending as long 'down' as previously when it did drop. And now today my housemate and I are both connected and suffering these intermittent drops, which become more and more frequent, until finally the internet cuts out and won't return. Now I cannot get the TP-Link router to connect to the internet at all. However, switching back over to the original D-Link router now the internet DOES work, but still only intermittently. As I've been writing this it's dropped out for a couple of moments twice!

We are in the process of installing time clocks at some of our sites around the USA. Our security department has asked that the time clocks be completely isolated from the rest of the network. The time clocks will be administered by ADP via a centralized firewall utilizing NAT. We have multiple subnets available at each site. Let me give an example to calrify what I would like to do. Example: Site A has 10.168.19.0 /24 user subnet and is configured for VLAN1 using 10.168.19.1 on the router as the default gateway. I would like to use subnet 10.168.20.0 /24 for the time clocks, configure it for VLAN2 and use 10.168.20.1 as the router gateway address for VLAN2. This should allow me to NAT one of our additional public IP addresses to the 10.168.20.1 gateway address thus completely isolating the time clocks from the remainder of the network. Problem is I have not done this before so I'm a little confused about how to configure it in the Cisco 3750 switches.

I have this D-Link DIR-825 and it was working fine till yesterday. All of a sudden it stopped connecting to internet. I restarted it and tried to login to the router but failed. I called the support and did a hard reset of the router. After that when I am not able to connect to the router from my computer for configuring it again. When I connected the Router to my computer via LAN cable sometimes the LAN port is glowing and sometimes it is not. I tried different LAN Cables too. But nothing is working and I am not able to get to the router page.

I have a Netgear media player that I need to keep separate from my LAN. I have a switch that's connected to WAN and from the switch to dir-655 and the Netgem box. So I have two IP:s and the Netgems traffic is not going through the router at all.Now I'm short of LAN ports and I bought an eight port switch. However I only have room for keeping two devices at the space they are at. So I need to get rid of the old switch and somehow manage the network(s) with dir-655 and the new switch. The way I see it, I should connect WAN to dir-655 and from there to the switch and connect the Netgem box to router. But how can I configure dir-655 so that the Netgem is not on LAN with other devices?

I've got a business network that I'd like to separate two sets of computers all together (thinking through a firewall rule or other method). Here's a text example of what I want to achieve:
Group A: PC 1, PC 2, PC 3 (can see each other and share files within this group)
Group B: PC 4, PC 5, PC 6 (can see each other and share files within this group)
But Group A & B can not see each other and are blocked from accessing each other. Can this be done with the DIR 655 or do I need to upgrade? Also, these two groups will be sharing the same internet connection.

I have a standard home network consisting of internet access provided by my cable company which is then disseminated to a variety of wired and wireless devices via a router.
I would like to create a second wireless network that is separate from my current one. This new wireless network would have extra access controls including access restrictions to some web sites using both IP address restrictions and using the OpenDNS DNS servers.
The picture below illustrates the current configuration. The question is: how can I connect ROUTER B to the internet using my current equipment (without buying another IP address from the cable company)?
W
MODEM --> ROUTER A --> ANTENNA <------> COMP 3
1 2 3 4
| |
| |
COMP 1 <---' | W
| ?? <--> ROUTER B --> ANTENNA <---> COMP 4
COMP 2 <-----' 1 2 3 4
W = WAN port
So, in the above picture, COMP 4 is connected via wireless to this second network and cannot access anything on the first network and uses different different DNS servers.
In case it matters, ROUTER A is a Linksys WRT54GL while ROUTER B is a D-Link DI-624.

My fiance recently signed up for the Screen-wise Panel for Google research. Basically they monitor your TV usage and your internet usage. As part of the program they installed a Cisco WIFI router. I've got no issue with them logging the sites visited etc but I'm a little worried about them possible collecting private information (banking / work related stuff) that I don't want going out there. According to what I've read what's supposed to happen is they replace your router with the new Cisco router. The "technician" who came in and installed the router was actually a builder and not an IT technician and rather than replace our router he connected the Cisco router into port 4 of our router... I wasn't in at the time.
What I was looking to do is separate Port 4 of my router into a separate VLAN that can access the internet, but not access anything on ports 1-3, or the wireless. However, I want to be able to see everything on port 4 from the other side (in other words I want to see "into" the port 4 VLAN, but don't want them to see out). I also wanted DHCP to assign IP addresses correctly depending on where you were plugged in. In this example the first VLAN (your current router ip address) is going to be on 192.168.1.1, and the second VLAN (the new on we create on port 4) is going to be on 192.168.2.1.This is exactly what I'm looking to do, I could then connect the kids machines / tablets / ipods to the Cisco router and have the main machine and my work laptop on the main router... but I don't have a clue how to do it. </quote> Is this something that I am able to do with the Netgear router I own and is it hard to set up?

I just got the E3200 and it's a pretty good router. Configured it to have 1 SSID as the 5Ghz SSID and the other as the 2.4 Ghz SSID. Since there are 2 SSIDs broadcasted, I was expecting machines connected to each distinct SSID to not be able to see each other, ie expecting the 5Ghz SSID to be a private LAN1 and the 2.4 Ghz SSID to be LAN2? It turns out machines on either SSID can see each other, so it looks like it on 1 big LAN even though there are 2 SSIDs.Doesn't a SSID map to a unique LAN even though they are in the same router?

I have a milestone VMS (video management system) server running on a customers site. The server has two network cards. eth0 has a static IP 10.0.15.250, mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 10.0.15.254 (the gateway is a firewall connected to the internet via an eircom modem in bridged mode) eth1 has a static IP 10.94.238.2, mask 255.255.0.0 gateway all the cameras and related equipment are in the range 10.94.238.1 ~ 20 Customers network users what to view the VMS via an application which needs to run on their PC and connect to the VMS server on 10.94.238.2, The customer has given me a gateway address of 10.94.200.1. However when I use this gateway address in the default gateway of eth1 I loose internet access on the server because the server can not resolve the DNS address. The cusotmers users can see the VMS and the monitoring station can see the VMS via a VPN. However I need internet access otherwise Teamviewer will not work and I can not access the server for configuration and maintenance remotely. Is there some other way I can implant the customers gateway so they have access but I still have internet on the server.

I've got a network with the following address and subnet mask:
xxx.17.0.0
255.255.0.0
The original gateway that we had on the network is at:
xxx.17.0.254
This gateway is a Netgear VPN firewall and it also has a bit of port forwarding going on to a couple of servers on the network. We've now had a new line put in and we have to use different hardware on that line so in order to phase that in, I've set this up as a new gateway at:
xxx.17.1.254
Internally, the clients and servers are quite happy with this and will happily use the new line.Problem arises when users connect via VPN to the OLD gateway (I haven't got VPN set up on the new one yet). Users can still connect to the VPN but can't see any machine that is using the new gateway. How can I get around that? Does the old gateway need a static route?

I installed m0n0wall in a virtualized environment, i have 10 PCs connected to a router ( 192.168.1.0/24) which connect them to the internet through PPPoE, the problem is that this router does not have a QoS so what i want to do is the following :-
let all the PCs get their IP from the Router and the default gateway will be m0n0wall
the moon wall will have 2 interface (Lan 192.168.1.20) and (Wan 192.168.1.21 and default gateway 192.168.1.1)
now when any PC want to access the internet it should go through m0n0wall and then m0n0wall will forward the connection to the default gateway through the wan interface which is the PPPoE running on the router (192.168.1.1)

I have two different networks on same LAN.One net has public 2xx.x.x.x IPs (some on DMZ, they are servers with their own internal firewalling) and goes through a GBeth switch to a Cisco 25xx router for accessing HDSL modem with several HDSL trunks and then Internet. That router is configured to let external IPs access only DMZ IPs, of course. The other net has 192.168.x.x IPs and goes through another GBeth switch to a DLink router to access ADSL. Mainly for download traffic at a low flat cost.I would like to have a way to let the 192.x.x.x machines access the servers on the DMZ of the 2xx.x.x.x net without going outside the physical LAN. The servers host mail services and so sending heavy attached documents needs a hi-speed LAN connection and certainly not the ADSL upload capability. Not to say about servers web contents maintenance.
