D-Link DIR-655 :: How To Separate One Device From LAN

Aug 30, 2011

I have a Netgear media player that I need to keep separate from my LAN. I have a switch that's connected to WAN and from the switch to dir-655 and the Netgem box. So I have two IP:s and the Netgems traffic is not going through the router at all.Now I'm short of LAN ports and I bought an eight port switch. However I only have room for keeping two devices at the space they are at. So I need to get rid of the old switch and somehow manage the network(s) with dir-655 and the new switch.The way I see it, I should connect WAN to dir-655 and from there to the switch and connect the Netgem box to router. But how can I configure dir-655 so that the Netgem is not on LAN with other devices?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Separate Two Groups On Business Network?

May 7, 2011

I've got a business network that I'd like to separate two sets of computers all together (thinking through a firewall rule or other method). Here's a text example of what I want to achieve:

Group A: PC 1, PC 2, PC 3 (can see each other and share files within this group)

Group B: PC 4, PC 5, PC 6 (can see each other and share files within this group)

But Group A & B can not see each other and are blocked from accessing each other.Can this be done with the DIR 655 or do I need to upgrade? Also, these two groups will be sharing the same internet connection.

D-Link DIR-655 - Put Computer Outside Of NAT / Giving It Separate IP Address?

Mar 31, 2013

I have two servers running behind my D-Link DIR-655 NAT router. Obviously, I cannot allow outside access to both of them simultaneously without putting them on different external ports, which I don't want to do. (DNS can only redirect to the common external IP of my router, not the unique internal IPs of my servers.) The easiest solution I can think of to this is simply to put one of the servers completely outside of the router so that it grabs its own IP address from Comcast (and thus allows me to change my DNS records so that the destination IPs are different.) Is this possible, and if it is, how do I do it?

P.S. I've already tried putting one server into the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) on my router to no avail.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Why Router Giving Two Separate Default Gateways And SSIDs

Jul 2, 2011

My router is showing two separate SSIDs, dlink and dlink 2 it only recently started doing this and around the same time my router has been constantly rebooting when there's little or heavy internet traffic.I have a DIR 655 Hardware Version: A4.Firmware: 1.21 NA

I refuse to go to any version above 1.21 as 1.21 is the most stable firmware for the 655, I have tried all other with terrible outcomes and wireless performance.I've looked around and most people think it's a joke or something, always saying it's probably a neighbors wireless, but that's impossible since I'm on an acreage and my neighbors are too far away for us to be receiving their wireless signals, and if I change the password and encryption type (WPA/WEP/WPA2) I have to change the security settings on both dlink and dlink 2.

Also I have the normal 192.168.0.1 gateway to access the router under the "LAN" section under Status on the router, but under WAN I have a completely different gateway that just recently showed up. I have no idea where this came from or what happened.

Networking :: Second Separate Network Using Single ISP Provided Address D-Link DI-624

Nov 25, 2011

I have a standard home network consisting of internet access provided by my cable company which is then disseminated to a variety of wired and wireless devices via a router.

I would like to create a second wireless network that is separate from my current one. This new wireless network would have extra access controls including access restrictions to some web sites using both IP address restrictions and using the OpenDNS DNS servers.

The picture below illustrates the current configuration. The question is: how can I connect ROUTER B to the internet using my current equipment (without buying another IP address from the cable company)?

W
MODEM --> ROUTER A --> ANTENNA <------> COMP 3
1 2 3 4
| |
| |
COMP 1 <---' | W
| ?? <--> ROUTER B --> ANTENNA <---> COMP 4
COMP 2 <-----' 1 2 3 4

W = WAN port

So, in the above picture, COMP 4 is connected via wireless to this second network and cannot access anything on the first network and uses different different DNS servers.

In case it matters, ROUTER A is a Linksys WRT54GL while ROUTER B is a D-Link DI-624.

Separate Port 4 Into Separate Vlan?

Jan 16, 2013

My fiance recently signed up for the Screen-wise Panel for Google research. Basically they monitor your TV usage and your internet usage. As part of the program they installed a Cisco WIFI router. I've got no issue with them logging the sites visited etc but I'm a little worried about them possible collecting private information (banking / work related stuff) that I don't want going out there. According to what I've read what's supposed to happen is they replace your router with the new Cisco router.The "technician" who came in and installed the router was actually a builder and not an IT technician and rather than replace our router he connected the Cisco router into port 4 of our router... I wasn't in at the time.

What I was looking to do is separate Port 4 of my router into a separate VLAN that can access the internet, but not access anything on ports 1-3, or the wireless. However, I want to be able to see everything on port 4 from the other side (in other words I want to see "into" the port 4 VLAN, but don't want them to see out). I also wanted DHCP to assign IP addresses correctly depending on where you were plugged in. In this example the first VLAN (your current router ip address) is going to be on 192.168.1.1, and the second VLAN (the new on we create on port 4) is going to be on 192.168.2.1.This is exactly what I'm looking to do, I could then connect the kids machines / tablets / ipods to the Cisco router and have the main machine and my work laptop on the main router... but I don't have a clue how to do it. </quote> Is this something that I am able to do with the Netgear router I own and is it hard to set up?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Port Link Light For Powered-off Device Stayed On

Nov 20, 2011

I have a DIR-655 Rev B, in a typical cascaded config:  modem > dir-555 > switches & devices, etc.One of the four dir-655 ports is connected to a cheap-o Belink Wifi router which I use as an access point (I only use this because there's one device that only supports WEP).  I was debugging a WiFi issue and I pulled the plug on this Belkin just to get it out of the picture.  Well, when I did that, EVERYTHING that was connected through the DIR-655 lost connection.  (Well, all the wired stuff anyway- not sure about WiFi devices through the DIR-655).  I noticed that the port link light for the powered-off device stayed on on the DIR-655.  When I unplugged the cable from the DIR-655, everything went back to normal.

So what I'm trying to figure out now is, is this a DIR-655 issue, or is it something screwy with the Belkin?  Or Both?  I've got to assume that there's some inherent flaw in the DIR-655 that allows something connected to a port to screw up everything that it's hosting.

D-Link DWA-125 Produced USB Device Not Recognize In XP

Apr 9, 2012

I have an old Compaq PC that's running Windows XP SP3 and for quite some time has not had problems with networking or using this wireless adapter. But not long ago the network interface disappeared and the adapter was now being shown in the Device Manager as an unknown device. If you pulled the adapter out and reinserted it you'd get a message on screen that would say something to that effect.

There are two computers next to each other that both use this exact same adapter and I've tried swapping them between the PCs to see if one adapter worked better than another. They both work in one PC and neither work in the PC I'm having trouble with.

I was trying to determine the IP, and MAC address of an AT&T Microcell connected to my network. I have no physical access to Microcell. I have been able to find the IP address, in the logs of the DIR-655, but nowhere else. Shouldn't it be listed under SETUP -> NETWORK SETTINGS -> NUMBER OF DYNAMIC DHCP CLIENTS?

D-link Dir-655 :: Vpn Device Doesn't Have Wifi

Dec 5, 2010

I have a "vpn device" (that is what they called it to me) basically its a custom no-name black box with a lan and a wan port that my office gave me.  It is running url... vpn connection to my office automatically so no computers have to run a vpn client locally.  "It just works".Previously I had a DL 4300 set to bridge mode so I could get wifi.  VPN device doesnt have wifi

I replaced the DL-4300 with a 655 because I wanted N speed for wifi and I got a DAP 1522 to wirelessly bridge my dvr and a htpc.I have read through the many threads of the 655 and bridging and it being removed and I'd love to use the 655 as my router to take advantage of all the other routing features, but alasSo here is my setup as of now, they set my vpn to be 10.86.83.1 so that is my network.Cable Modem -> pfSense -> switch ->

-> office computers and printers
-> DL 4300 10.86.83.2 (I'll soon disable this and remove it, or maybe setup another remote ap in future)
-> DIR 655 10.86.83.3 (using Lan port not wan port)

Laptops/phones connecting to new 655 wireless SSID, however I'm not sure how you tell if its using the DAP1522 or the 655 or is that just seemless and I shouldnt know?Also I couldnt get a dhcp via the 655-> ... -> DAP 1522 from the pfSense router.  So I just enabled DHCP on the 655 and now I get ip and internet access.Really have no idea how that is working having 2 DHCP servers, but I guess they are smart about it (for now..or just lucky)

D-Link DIR-825 :: What Device To Be Used To Extend Wireless Network

Aug 10, 2010

set up the wireless network at a friend's house, which is a large solid-brick house that winds from one end to the other.  The current location of where the cable comes into the house is unfortunately on the far-left end of the house, which means that the right end of the house receives no signal from their DIR-825 wireless N router.

What I've been looking into is the best way to wirelessly extend the wireless signal to the other end of the house.  It seems straightforward enough to use an ethernet cable and access point to extend a wireless network, but that is not really a good option for this house.  After reading many forum posts (and not being an expert myself) it seems like it may be possible to wirelessly extend the wireless network with another router, although it appeared that this is much less common (if at all possible) with wireless N routers.

what device I need to accomplish what I've described above?  Another router, or some kind of access point/bridge?  I saw at least one rather expensive wireless N repeater online (a Hawking brand, I believe) but was hoping to avoid that option initially, but if that is the only way to go then so be it :-)

D-Link DIR-615 :: Device Is Not Responding To Hard Resets

I have a DIR-615 that is not responding to hard resets.  It was working fine for about a week and then stopped handing out IP's to wireless clients.  I attempted a power cycle and when the router came back up the wireless light was no longer on and it was no longer handing out IP's to Ethernet clients.  The power light is solid, internet light lights up when connected to my modem and flashes intermittently, and the Ethernet lights light up in response to connecting clients.  I have attempted to hard reset the router to no avail.  I also tried statically assigning 192. 168. 0.120 to my NIC to see if I could access the router config but that doesn't work either.  It's almost as if the default ip address and range for the LAN on my router have changed and DHCP was turned off.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Controlling Device Access On Network

Feb 6, 2012

I have a new audio/video receiver that has Apple Airplay functionality built in.  Now the Airplay allows any Iphone/pod/pad/tunes device/computer on the same network to route music to the receiver without plugging in the device directly.  Great concept but the execution allows any computer or iphone in my house on the network to take over my receiver with no questions asked and start playing.

So far I have failed to find a way to restrict or shut off Airplay on the device itself (other than disabling it's network).  If there is anyway through networking or my DIR-655 router to control/restrict this access?  What I would like in a perfect world is to keep all computers and wireless Apple I devices from connecting to the unit unless I allow it for that particular device/computer.  In an imperfect world I would accept just blocking wireless devices from it but still allowing them full network connectivity otherwise.Some things I have thought of - Can I use static addressing for the A/V receiver but put it on a different subnet then what my router is set to?  Is there some network control in the firewall that may limit access to the A/V receiver?

D-Link DAP-1522 :: Can't Access Wired WNDR3700v2 Device

Dec 11, 2011

I have 4 DAP-1522's bridging to a WNDR3700v2.  Any device plugged into any of the 1522's can access the internet and can access shared drives etc. on any other device plugged into any 1522.  I can access the WNDR3700 admin website from a device connected to a 1522.

However, no device plugged into a 1522 can access a device plugged into the 3700's ethernet switch.  Likewise, the devices plugged into the 3700 cannot access devices plugged into 1522s.

Devices plugged into the 3700's switch can access the internet and can access each other.

I have changed network cables, power cycled all devices (PCs, bridges, routers, etc) at least once.  I am running latest firmware on 1522's and 3700.  In short, I've tried just about all the basic stuff.

It almost appears that the 3700's switch is acting as an isolated network.  I would say that were true, except that I can access the router admin page from anywhere (any 1522 and directly connected to the 3700).

All devices are within the 10.0.0.x address range with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.  Again, I have no problems accessing the internet.  Just the problem of devices plugged into a 1522 communicating with devices plugged into the 3700 and vice versa.

I am able to ping from the 172 network to the 10 network using a laptop that is directly connected to the router and that laptop can also browse the web fine. However, I cannot ping to that router or access that subnet at all from the 10 network (if I try to access its LAN (the 172 network)). The 172 network is on its LAN and the 10 network is its WAN. I can access its WAN fine. Also, there the router is not recognizing the laptop as a "directly connected deivce" but its not preventing the laptop from using the router. I have tried to make the router as least secure as possible but still nothing.

I thought about making Static Route to point towards the router's LAN but the only option it gives me is the WAN for the exit interface.

Once it was finished rebooting, we were not even able to connect to the network at all. Even on my computer downstairs I was not able to connect wirelessly. I am connected via ethernet from the router right now on my computer upstairs and that is working fine. I have tried rebooting the router to factory settings, unplugging the modem, rebooting the modem, unplugging the modem, changing the router settings, pretty much every practical solution for simple connectivity issues.

I do have a switch added to the system, but of the three devices connected to it, 1 shows in th Lan Computers list and the other 2 do not.Since everything works, I'm mostly just curious why this is. Every previous router I've had showed everything correctly.
