Nov 20, 2012I replaced a similar router from a competing company with the AC900 N900 router. I open Live Mail (IMAP) and keep it open during the day. Since switching over, when I periodically look at email on Live Mail, I frequently get a "Windows Live Mail" message saying "Your server unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity." I have never received this message from either one of the previous routers - LinkSys, Netgear.

So, I did a backup and then managed to clean install a Windows 7 Professional x64.At first I had a problem with the drivers, because the internet wasn't connecting and the USB ports weren't detecting my External Drive. So, I tested other USB port and got it. Installed the drivers and I could connect to the wireless network. But it doesn't detect the ethernet cable! And I want it detecting because then it's faster. I already tried downloading the Ethernet Controller driver. At first, I downloaded through Sony's support site but it didn't recognize the driver. Now, it recognizes but still doesn't connect it. And when I tried Solving Connection Problems, it said the network gateway was accessible but Windows can't receive Internet network traffic.

May 5, 2013I recently purchased a DLink DIR-815 router to replace my aging Linksys. The router works great, except that I can't access my ISPs website, nor their IMAP server. I can access every other page on the web. If I connect direct to the modem, or through my old Linksys it's fine, but with the DLink I'm having problems. Internet is DSL using PPPoE. The net info from the status tab is:
Local address : 206.248.167.xxx
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.255
Peer address : 206.248.154.104
Primary DNS Server : 206.248.154.22
Secondary DNS Server : 206.248.154.170
ISP web page is at 206.248.155.70, and mail server is at 206.248.188.90 I have reset the router to factory default, and setup the PPPoE, and still the same issue. I have also tried using the DMZ but no luck. ISP can't seem to figure out the issue, and points to the router configuration.

Aug 24, 2011I recently purchased a 825 and a WD Mybook Live. I have been going back and forth on the WD board trying to resolve a remote access issue with the mybook and I am being told to do some settings in the router and I am not sure I have dine them correctly> It has not resolved the issue but I would like to make sure I am correct before I claim its not a good fix. The mybook is connected into a network port on the router which is connected to a High Speed modem and then out to the internet. Initially I was told to enable UPnP on the 825, which was already enabled. Then this is what I was told to do by a WD tech. You could try assigning a static IP to the My Book Live, then making sure ports 80 and 443 are assigned to that IP on your router. It is possible that something else is taking one of these ports. We use uPnP to try to open up these ports, and if it fails, we resort to relay mode. In the future, we will allow you to set these ports within the My Book Live to other than 80 and 443.

Apr 13, 2013i've lost the ability to view live streaming video (adobe flash, i think) on several websites. it happened gradually over several weeks and now videos will not load. the dir-615 has functioned flawlessly over several years but it might be showing its age now. connecting directly to my com cast broadband modem fixes the problem. can i tweak the router settings or do i need to replace it?
my setup: dir-615, H/W Ver. E1, F/W Ver. 5.00NA, two wired connections to X Box's and one to Win 7 PC. wireless connections to several Win 7 laptops and other tablets/phones. com cast high speed broadband with their Norton security suite.

I have a TL-MR3420 router placed in a remote location. The internet connection is via 3G, and since the telco is shifting the IP every 24 hours, the router is configured with DDNS from no-ip.org. This is working OK most days, but sometimes the DNS fails to update. To be able to trobleshoot it, I am trying to make my router send a mail with the logfile every hour. This function seems to be easy and out-of-the-box, but it doesn't wiork. Whenever I try to mail the log I get the error message "Fail to Connect the mail server.".
It is not possible to enter another SMTP-port, so I asume the standard port 25 (like this thread). Most ISP-mail services require SSL/TLS and/or use an alternative port, so I have made my own server. This server is visible on the Internet, and I (and others) are able to connect and send mails using smtp on port 25. But, still my remote TL-MR3420 keep saying "Fail to Connect the mail server.". I have tried nearly everything, including disabling authentication and giving the IP-address of the smtp server directly instead of the URL.
