Dell :: Latitude D400 / No Network Connection Through Docking Station?
Mar 14, 2004
I have a Latitude D400 laptop with docking station. I left on a trip for a week and came back to find I cannot connect to the network through the docking station. I can however connect if I plug the ethernet cable directly into the laptop. Is this a hardware problem with the docking station?

I have a Latitude D820, Windows XP, SP3. At my office I have a regular docking station but at home I have a D/Dock docking station. When I dock the 820 at home the Broadcomm network card works flawlessly. When I dock it in the office, it will occasionally work but most of the time the link light and data light on the docking station are on solidly and XP reports that the cable is unplugged. I have tried two different docking stations with identical results and also tested the cable by plugging it into the docking station that holds a D810. With the D810 it worked normally.

I am using a wireless connection via router to access internet at home. When my Dell Latitude E6510 Laptop is not on the Dell Docking Station and I'm using as just standalone I can access my wireless connection easily, no problem at all. However, when I attached my laptop to my Dell Docking Station, I can not access my wireless connection. The wireless connection is found, but when I click connect to network, I get "Windows cannot found network". When I remove the laptop from the docking station, I find the wireless connection and connect perfectly and it works normal.I am using Windows 7. I can connect to internet with straight wire going to docking station easily, but no wireless connection found when laptop is on the docking station. I work from home and use the docking station for two monitors for doing my job. I have struggle with this problem for two weeks now. I don't see anything on the docking station that's preventing me from access my wireless connection.

I cannot utilize my Ethernet connection when my Dell Latitude D630 is connected to a docking station. I have tried this on two different docking stations. I also have another Dell laptop that I have used in the one of the same docking stations and the ethernet connection is fine. I'm looking for assistance to troubleshoot this (even just determining if I can replace the connector and how I determine what type I need)

Latitude D400 Win XP sp3. My wireless mini-pci card seems to have died. To replace the original card I bought a Broadcom BCM94318 (model WL5011s (TECOM) ) that was listed as compatible in a D400. No drivers just the hardware. My machine recognizes that the card is physically there but I do not have a drivers for it. Where can I get a driver that works?

I have a HP 6530b Laptop, and on-board Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet adapter. When I remove my laptop from the docking station, I obviously lose Network connectivity, however, when I replace the laptop back (or even just plug in a cable directly), I cannot reconnect to the network until I reboot. When I open Network and Sharing Center (Win7), and click change adapter settings the adapter is missing from the list (after i have removed laptop from docking station).

I'm using an HP Elitebook 6930p with Windows XP and an HP EN488UT docking station. When I use the computer by itself the Network Connections shows "Local Area Connection 3 Connected Intel 83567LM Gigabit Network Connection" and I can connect to the internet. When I am in the docking station, I can also see this connection, as long as my notebok is open when I start up. However, if i start the computer with the lid closed (I just want to use the external monitor, not the notebook monitor) that network connection does not appear and I cannot connect to the intenet.

problem with my Dell Latitude D600 Laptop,I tried re-installing my OS, so now with a fresh new OS the wireless capabilities worked fine, but only for the first day, then the next morning the whole problem began again. Now it would say " No supported wireless adapters found" and when i would open the device manager some devices would have the yellow exclamation point, some of the devices would say "Intel PCIC compatible PCMICA controller" and " PCMICA MTD-0002" or just "card bus controller" and many other ones that would alternate when they appear. And also sometimes my network adapters would completely disappear from the list. I also tried scanning my whole drive for viruses and nothing was found.
Then i found that if you disconnect the wireless adapter physically and re connect it, it might work, but it didn't. I should also add that before this problem for some time i had another problem with the same laptop that had to do with the battery malfunctioning, and it displays a 4 orange , 1 green pattern sequence on the LED charge display. But it had never affected any of the laptops hardware or software before, so I don't know if that might have anything to do with it.

Purchased 6 new e6510 latitudes and were running into a fluke on a few of them.
When the users travel between locations, they sometimes find when they turn the laptops back on that the ethernet connection is disabled. Its not the wi fi switched off, but the actual ethernet connection in control panel is disabled.

My ethernet connection device does not seem to be working. I already tried to trouble shoot it, but nothing worked. First, I have checked that the ethernet cable, and internet port are working properly. Then, i have looked in the device manager, and it indicates that my wired connection device are detected and enabled. However, when I connect a network cable to the ethernet jack on my laptop, there is no network light showing up. I have also updated the BIOS and wired network driver.

I have WIN XP installed on my DELL E6410 Latitude laptop. When I start my laptop, it acquires the internet connection fine, whether wireless or the wired connection. However on the wired connection, if I unplug the cable and replug it, it does not get the connection. It shows Limited connectivity or no connection. If I try to repair, it says , the IP address could not be renewed. Nothing works but restarting the laptop.Same is the case with wireless connection at home. The first time it catches the wireless fine. However if the system gets locked because of inactivity, and I unlock it, I am left with LIMITED CONNECTIVITY or NO CONNECTION message on the Wireless. I need to restart my comp because the repair or the disable and enable of WLAN does not facilitate.

I have a Dell Latitude E6510 with a DW1520 Wireless-N WLAN half-mini card. I used to have a D-Link router which broke down so I purchased a new router which is a Linksys E2500. I changed the configuration on my laptop to use WPA instead of WEP. My router is configured with fixed channels (not auto). My internet connection is continuously being dropped and I have to re-logon to everything (very annoying with vpn tunnels). All my other desktops/laptops in the house work without problems.

My Latitude D630 has been dropping internet connection all the time for the past three days. I looked up similar problems on this blog: a) cleared the DNS cache, b) downloaded windows XP- service pack 3, & 3 network software recommended for my laptop by Dell from the website and updated to the Intel PROSET/Wireless WIFI connection utility, d) ran ipconfig/all from C prompt and know the ethernet connections are disabled, e) called and checked with our local ISP and cleared the connection from their end. To sum it, I have tried everything I know and am still not able to maintain a steady connection to the net using WIFI. However I am able to connect using the cable to the router, so my net provider said the problem is with the wireless connection on the laptop. I didnt have this problem before.

we are using Cisco VPN client to access our corporate network.I have 5 new notebooks Dell Latitude E6410 OS Windows 7 Professional x64, with identical hardware configuration.I downloaded Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.440 (64 bit) and installed it on all notebooks. It seems the problem is in the certificate, but I verified and Cisco client says it's ok. It's also the only valid certificate in MMC->Certificates->Personal.Furthermore, also using other smartcard (etokens) of other users it doesn't work.

I was given a dell latitude cpx laptop running windows xp recently with wireless b network adapter. My modem/router is a 2wire gateway DSL . When I brought the laptop home, it did not connect to my wireless network. It was able to find my ssid though, and the signal was weak even if I was close to the modem/router. Anway, someone suggested I switch from WPA to WEP encryption because old network adapters can only detect wep encryption ( or something like that) . So I did, and still no internet connection. i tried to ping yahoo.com and still not working. My DNS and Ip adress are set to automatic and still no internet. This laptop doesn't have an LAN port, so i guess it connects through internet wirelessly only. Someone also suggested i update my drivers for wireless adapter but i don't have the original disc that came along with it. This laptop was able to connect without problem before from a different network but not mine like a week ago.. I also have2 other laptops within this network and I never had a problem with it connecting wirelessly.

I'm trying to hook up my boss's service laptop (the aforementioned Dell Latitude D830) to a Netgear GS108 router so that he can check out footage from a couple of Pelco Sarix IP security cameras.Long story short, not only does the included software not detect the cameras, upon closer inspection, I cannot ping the Netgear router from an XP command prompt (when trying to do so, I received "Request timed out" messages, then Sent 4, Received 0, Lost 4, 100% loss).
Additional info- This PC has had quite a lot of setup work done to it so that it would run DOS as it is used to connected to a 15-year-old fire alarm system for programming and auditing purposes. This happened well before I was hired and my boss is not a computer person so the extent of this work is basically beyond what I can readily see- namely a partitioned HDD with DOS and a dual boot. The connection between the fire system and the PC is a serial connection facilitated by an actual serial port in the laptop. I don't know what effect, if any, this has had on the XP (sp3) portion of things.
This PC is not generally on a wired network; I mention this mainly to say its not online at work, doesn't receive an IP address from a DHCP somewhere, etc. My boss says he sometimes takes it home and connects to his home WiFi with it however. Additionally, it is not a device that belongs to our customer so it cannot be placed on their network (which is the only network and internet connection available to me). When I plug the CAT5 cable into the laptop, both LEDs flash very briefly, then a single orange LED illuminates solidly and stays that way. On the router, I get two green LEDs (which signifies gigabit speed, apparently). If I open Control Panel and click on Network Connections, I see the NIC and it appears to be connected with no issues. Double-clicking the icon shows Status: Connected at a speed of 1.0Gbps.
The IP cameras work fine. I took them home, connected them to my own home router (which other than opening some game ports, I've done nothing special with; a Linksys WRT54G). The cables I'm using are the same ones I used at the house. Note that I did NOT use this laptop when I tested them at my house- I used my own desktop PC (nothing special, except I have no antivirus, software firewall, etc.- read on).The Netgear router is technically an unknown quantity, but it is literally brand-new out of the box this morning. I had this same issue I'm currently having with a couple of "found" routers (meaning my boss/ co-workers probably found them in the trash somewhere). Naturally, I assumed both routers were bad based on the fact that the cameras worked fine at my house (again, with my PC- not this Dell laptop).
There is protective software on this PC. I have disabled the Windows Firewall via Control Panel and in Norton 360, I've enabled "Silent Mode", disabled Smart Firewall and Anti-Virus Auto Protect. I'm loathe to completely uninstall this suite because of some of the stories I've heard my boss tell about the users on his home network. This PC is the sole link to the customer's fire alarm system and has been configured (again, long before I was hired) extensively to do so. What I'm looking for mostly is something I'm missing. When I first began having issues with this system, I went into the LAN Properties for the NIC, turned off the "Obtain IP Address Automatically), and entered 192.168.1.10 for the IP, 255.255.255.0 for the subnet, and 192.168.1.1 for the gateway (based on the Netgear router's published default IP setting). When that didn't work, I tried all of the above and switched the gateway to 192.168.0.1 as the manufacturer seemed to indicate it could be either address. Same results.

There are two available wifi connections and it will not connect to either. I have followed my university's instructions to connect to the internet but no good. When I run troubleshooter the error says "unable to configure ip address" or something along those lines. I have reinstalled the network adapter, changed firewall setting. I have a Latitude D810. recently unable to get connection on wireless or wired. Lights are on on port plug.I can see the network, when I run troubleshooter on the Proset/Wireless Wifi Connection utility It says the wireless adaptor failed to get IP address and could be due to authentication failure with the network, incorrect wireless security passwords or because of DHCP server malfunction.I did the passwords, checked the router, all is ok there. My new computer works fine on this wireless network as well as my wired desktop. I suspect this happened as a result of a security change that windows XP or whatever security soft ware that's in there did, but cannot figure out how to undo or reset this.
