Add Another Computer To Existing Wireless System?

Jul 12, 2011

I'm trying to add another computer to an existing, wireless system. I followed the directions I found online, but when I get to the point where I'm supposed to "take note of the numeric code beside the Default Gateway icon", no such icon, and no code, is present. By the way, I'm attempting this from the current, wireless computer.

Wireless Computer Internet Speed 16mbps / Wired Computer 0.4mbps

Mar 24, 2011

I am with Virgin media (UK) and have the 20mbps fiber optic connection. My area has recently been having problems with the broadband and Virgin has recently fixed these problems. However I used to get around 19mbps now that the problem is fixed my computer which is wired to the router gets about 0.4mbps downstream... However the 5 wireless computers all get 16mbps which is pretty good for them. Windows tells me that its a firewall issue and I currently can't use two programs, spotify and steam. They both have firewall issues, even if I turn off my firewall which is the windows one. I also have avast, and when I turn that off, still no good. I used OpenDNS, stopped using that flushed my DNS, that didnt work. I tried to optimize my computer settings, by changing various values in Regedit.All of this has done nothing. I should add that I have recently re-installed Windows 7 so on this fresh install it has never had decent internet speed. Which I thought was weird.. I have basically had these problems since the fresh install. All of my drivers are up to date.

XP Windows Not Taking To New Wireless System

Feb 14, 2013

My old Actiontec M1000 modem recently died and my HP nc6120 with windows XP can not connect to the wireless network through the new Actiontec C1000A model.It connected wirelessly through the old M1000 moden. Window icons on the screen indicate no wireless network is detected. When I view the available networks and log in to the assigned network with its password, it looks like it is trying to connect but does not. It will connect through the ethernet link-up. I don't have any other wireless devices to connect to the network. I have updated the drivers for the wireless card through HP. I have taken the HP nc6120 to the Geek Squad and the wireless card connects with their network. I seem to have a compatibility problem with the old HP with its XP windows operating software and the new modem system. I have tried to reset the ip addresses, but this has had no effect. However, I do have purchased AVG protection software operating on the system, which I am not sure how to shut off. Is this a problem with a too advanced modem for an old style HP with an XP operating system? Is there a modem that I can downgrade to if it is? [code]

PCI Wireless Card Causes System To Stutter?

Sep 25, 2011

My old system developed a stutter. It would freeze for a half-second at a time in short bursts. The stutter would appear off and on at random, and went on for a good year, coming and going. I couldn't locate the source, but it seemed to get worse when either the graphics card or the sound were called on heavily. Near the very end, the hard drive started getting corrupted, more and more swiftly. I had to replace my machine.So I created new, a fresh, home-built system:

* Asus P8 Z68-V motherboard
* Intel i5-2500k
* 16 GB RAM
* Radeon 6850
* 465 GB WD platter hd
* 128 GB SSD with a fresh install of Windows 7

After completing the installation of Windows, I brought over my old DVD drive, my old wireless card, and my old hard drive. I copied my old data to the new drive, and was relieved that I was able to do so successfully. Almost immediately, I began to get the stutter again! I did some troubleshooting, and discovered that the stutter went away when I pulled out my wireless card. I tried switching it to a different PCI slot, but the same thing continued. When I was able to test the machine with an ethernet cable plugged directly into a router, the stutter was gone. I bought a fresh wireless card, but the same thing happened immediately.

System Freezes When Downloading File On Wireless Only

Jan 16, 2011

I have been having a few problems with my IBM T42 Laptop for a while now. I was originally running Windows XP on this system and about 12 months ago I installed Ubuntu 9 on it to mess around a bit with the OS and have a basic, non-Microsoft laptop in the house that I could use for browing the web and IM, etc... The laptop needed a clean install anway as Windows XP was running like a dog. Originally it was dual boot but once I got happy with Ubuntu I did a clean install and everything worked reasonably well. I had a few issues with the wireless LAN adapter and compatibilty, but sorted it out following a few forums (firware updates, driver updates) and everything was great. I upgraded to the Ubuntu 10.04 OS and then started having some issues. Essentially my browser would freeze randomly. Again, I visted the forums and had no joy in sorting out the problem. I reverted the OS back to Ubuntu 9 and the problem persisted. So I gave up on it totally around 6 months ago.

Last week I fired up the laptop again and decided I would use the IBM restore utility and the disks I created a couple of years ago to put on a clean install of Windows XP and see how things went. So far I have done all the Windows XP updates (SP3, etc...), I have been to the Lenovo website and updated all drivers, firmware, BIOS, etc... every little problem I have had has been sorted with a software or firmware update which I have successfully implemented. All niggles have been sorted bar one.The only problem I have left now is very odd. Everything works fine and at reasonable speed considering the age and specs of my system. When I connect via cable to my router/modem all network and internet services work fine. I have had no issues. But when I connect via wireless, intermittently my system will completely freeze - no errors, no logs - nothing. No sounds, just frozen screen. Hard reboot is the only thing that I can do to get back online.Further investigating the issue - the freezing occurs when I click on a link to download something. I can browse anything - I have tried videos (youtube) and have no problems at all - but if I click to download a file (software upgrade pack, pdf document, Qucktime player) the system freezes up and ONLY when connected wirelessly via the inbuilt Cisco Wireless LAN adapter. [code]

Connect My Wireless Security System To D-Link (DCM-202) Router?

Sep 4, 2011

I have an older D-Link DGL-4300 wireless router, I've purchased a wireless home security system and can't seem to get the 2 connected. I've tried resetting the router & modem (powering down & waiting from 1-5 minutes), and my router just won't read the port that I've plugged the security system ethernet cable into.I think the problem is my firewall but I don't know how to set it to allow the router to read the port that I've plugged into, or it could be the firewall that my anti-wirus has or possibly both.My equipment is Comcast cable, router (as noted above) and a D-Link DCM-202 modem, Windows XP 3, and Norton anti-virus. Now I also have my phone through Comcast and it has it's own modem.

Finding A Centrally Managed Wireless Hotspot System?

Oct 9, 2012

I am looking for a centrally managed wireless hotspot system. But the system has a few requirements. I have been looking around but so far I have not found a system that ticks all the boxes?

-The system (AP's) needs to be centrally managed (except for the internet connections, each site will use its own outgoing connection to the internet).

-The system needs to have some kind of ticket system for guest access (hotspot).

-It also needs to be able to identify employees so they can pass through without needing a ticket, everywhere they go.

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: AE1000 Disconnects From System?

Feb 11, 2011

I recently purchased two of these units. One used with a quad core AMD rig and another with a single core AMD rig. Both systems are running Windows 7 but the older single core system is having issues. I noticed that I keep hearing the sound of a USB device being disconnected but wasnt sure what it was until I noticed when I try to copy large files over wireless the AE1000 disconnects from my system like I've unplugged it. I've swapped the two units and it didn't solve the problem. My newer quad core doesn't experience the issue at all. I've also tried different USB ports but that doesn't solve the issue either.

Cisco Wireless :: 1252 - Automated Racking System

we want to have full wireless coverage in a big warehouse (120mx90m) and 15 meter Height that will be having big racks (14 meters height) and 2 meter between the racks and the rack itself is 1.5 meter (2 rack back to back), now we will be having scanners and we need to make sure the wireless is covering everywhere.Where is the best place to put the AP, Ceiling? How Many APs per row ? each row will be around 60 meters length.

Is AP 1252 a good choice? The scanners are a/b/g.What i'm thinking of is to put 1  AP per row mounted on the ceiling and antennas facing down because it is hard to mount the APs between the rack because of the automated racking system.
