Sent And Received Bytes Keeps On Increasing Even When Idle?
Jan 20, 2011
This has been happening of late. When i check the status of my connection, i notice that the "sent" and "received" bytes keeps on increasing when i'm idle. I'm pretty much sure there's no downloading of any sort in progress that I'm aware of. As a result of this, I can't watch videos in Youtube or play online games due to high ping.
When i check the status of my Internet Connection I notice that the sent and received bytes keeps increasing. I'm sure there are no downloads taking place that I'm aware of. No torrent clients, no antivirus nothing. I checked my PC for malware but that didn't work. As a result of this, i keep getting high pings in online games and can't even watch videos in youtube anymore. like, some software to monitor all the programs that use the itnernet connection without my knowledge or something??My primary concern is gaming (Call of Duty 4) so I wouldn't mind this idle downloading (whatever it is) as long as the major chunk of my internet connection is directed towards Cod4!
We have a new router (D Link) at offices which is fixed with LAN wall points on different places , we want to use it .I connected computers to the LAN points with regular lan cables , it gives me the alert (connected) but no bytes received .I tried to ipconfig an here's what i got :Windows IP ConfigurationEthernet adapter Local Area Connection 2[CODE]
For the last 3 weeks or so (right around the time I upgraded to IE8), my computer has been receiving a ridiculous number of bytes compared to what it sends.Within 5-10 minutes of logging on (I still use dialup), a check on the status shows around 100,000 bytes sent and over 2,000,000 received.I've been online for around 40 minutes, and it currently shows 650,000 sent (23% compression rate) and over 5,000,000 received (4% compression rate).Of course, the browser starts lagging and freezing after a while, which I assume is from the large number of bytes being received.
At the same time, there's a noticeable lag when I try to run programs, even when offline. For example,I click on my ISP connection and nothing happens for 5-6 seconds, then the dialog box appears. This is something that's never happened before. I'm running XP Home and no one else has access to my computer.I'm using the standard Windows firewall.I've run my AV and spyware programs multiple times (nothing found), cleaned my temporary files and cookies, even adjusted the FIFO buffers (the last thing I tried was turning the buffers off). I've been running Disk Cleanup everyday (which lags and runs slower than ever before), but it doesn't solve anything.I don't know how to adjust the compression rate for bytes received to see if that works.
I have a problem with my vpn between two ASAs, I review the running config of two devices, but I couldnt see anything out of normal. As you can see in the image the VPN is up, but in the ASA 5510 I don't have Bytes Rx (ZERO), I tried to config again two ASAs but I have the same trouble.
I am blocked with the below doubt for my issue resolution. When a ethernet frame for eg:ARP Packet of minimum length (64 bytes) is received at the end station, will the L2 layer remove both FCS and extra padding bytes(18 padding bytes for ARP)? Or removal of the padding bytes is dependent on the implementation?
We have an EHWIC for a 2900 router. Apparently, this card supports QinQ.. However, there is no usual MTU command. Therefore we cannot increase the MTU to support the extra four-bytes of VLAN tag. We have tried 15.2 and 15.1 code. May be the command is different. I'm about to go and do some digging elsewhere. The card is EHWIC-4ESG.
We have a Cisco 881 router, which is crashing. We have seen that the ARP cache fills up so much it causes things to crash, our phones go down.. We dont know why this however IP CEF seems to be doing it, when we disable it goes away however disabling IP CEF causes our L2TP tunnel to become inoperable also. So why does IP CEF cause thousands of AR entries and how can we limit that!? Below is the error, sample of the ARP cache and our config. You will notice we also have a /31 given to us on WAN interface, this was given to us by our service provider. This is really strange I cant find other examples on internet.

I need to count the bytes for some interesting traffic crossing the firewall in ASA 5500. Packet Capture is so far as I need, cause I only need the number of bytes during a long time for about 3 months (source host - destination host)
capture capin type raw-data access-list cap buffer 33554432 interface inside circular-buffer [Capturing - 33553570 bytes]
I need to get only the exactly amount of "33553570 bytes" The pcap file is not needed
I am currently getting a strange error when trying to use and crypto services on our ASA 5520 (8.0.3)Initially I observed that a connected VPN had dropped. Then when I attempted to use ASDM or SSH I was blocked.
In the end I opened telnet as a test and this was successful. Syslog also shows that traffic is passing as normal.The only obvious error I can see when observing various debug traces is this;
FW02# CTM: rsa session with no priority allocated @ 0xCF1FBBA0 CTM: Session 0xCF1FBBA0 uses a nlite (Nitrox Lite) as its hardware engine CTM: rsa context allocated for session 0xCF1FBBA0 CTM: rsa session with no priority allocated @ 0xCE7A5EA8
We have LMS 4.1 installed. After about 10 min of being idle, the browser becomes frozen, eventually crashing it. We applied this fix for lagging hoping it would fix the issue, however it has not. We have been tracking a problem internally where the Getting Started page hangs on login. The problem is with changes to Cisco.com access. We are actively working to get those fixed, but if this is what you're seeing the workaround is as follows:
a. Open the properties file name “gs.properties” under the path NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cwlms/WEB-INF/classes/com/cisco/nm/gs/ui b. Update the field IS_DEFAULT_PAGE as “false” c. Clear the browser cache and login-in(Daemon restart not required)
I have an IPAD, pc , laptop, mobile and my daughter comes over with her ipod and mobile. As I understand things my IP address range is not big enough and as a result my IPAD keeps dropping and saying not connected
I need to find a way to PERMANENTLY disable the network adapter from turning off to save power. Its this setting here. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Every time I restart the computer it rechecks that box. I manage an office with about 10 computers and this power saving feature is making the software they use very unstable.
LAN connection gets disabled by itself on idle. Sometimes BSODs.A few days ago I tried connecting a MBlaze modem to my laptop (Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit) to access internet. But it resulted in instant BSOD everytime.I deleted the modem software after that & didn't try to connect it again. But now, whenever I connect using my LAN broadband, connection works fine as long as I am continuously browsing something. But as soon as I stop browsing and it goes in idle mode in about 10-15 minutes, the connection gets disconnected. In the adapter properties, it shows that the driver is working properly. If I try to disable or uninstall it it doesn't give a response. The only solution to this is a forced shutdown & restart, after which it works fine untill not idle. I am not able to download anything because of this.I tried many things like reinstalling the network adapter driver, unchecking the power management feature, resetting the connection, etc. but nothing is working.
I'm using a Cisco ASA 5520 with IOS 8.2.2. We have many remote users using the Cisco VPN client, but I have been asked can we logout idle users as we do hit our license limit and some users stay conenct for days.
[code] just came out with a new package called Roadrunner Broadband Extreme ($10 extra). The claimed speeds are 30GB down and 5GB up. I have a friend in another area of town who is getting these speeds consistently, although i will admit he lives in a much more "technologically advanced" area where there are several big technology businesses like IBM. I just had the service installed last week, and have even had the cable techs to the house, but i am not even close to getting what i paid for.On average a normal day i would test at between 14-17GB down and maybe 2.2 up (using Time Warner's speed test, on tests from places like Speakeasy the speeds show much lower). So the question after the long winded description is this. Is there any program i can use that may be able to safely tweak my system and get closer to the speeds i should be getting? I know i may never reach 30 down and 5 up, but if i could at least be in the 20's down and maybe 3.5-4 up.
I have a problem where the complete home network disconnects whenever my computer reboots from idle state (either after leaving it for a while so it goes on sleep, or by putting it on sleep mode). It then takes a few (long) minutes for the network, and the internet access to it to reconnect. In the meantime ALL devices in the house (other laptops, ipads etc) lose connection too. It's only my computer which does this, so i'm assuming that there's something wrong with the settings on computer.
I'm not sure about my title, it;'s the best I could come up with. I have approximately 7 computers, two iPhone, and iPad, wireless printers and a network attached storage. Most are connected over via wifi, the exceptions being one pc, the nas and a printer. I plan to add six more devices plus some ip cams. The way the router or network is configured whenever a guest connects to our wifi they can "see" our computers. I haven't been able to tell if they can see the files or just the name of the computer. Question 1: How can I tell if the guests are able to access the data on our computers or networked drive? Question 2: If I add a switch will I need to do anything special with regard to security?
My apartment complex offers free wifi but it is always unreliable, sometimes it is slow and I can't load pages. Often it says my signal is good or excellent and I still have problems. I'm pretty sure its not just my laptop because when I am home where we have our own network and my connection is great there. I have looked around on the internet for solutions and have not really found anything. All solutions say to do something to the router and I do not have access to it. I saw these things called usb wireless network adapters. Would they be able to increase my wifi connection?
We frequently camp at campgrounds that offer free WiFi, but many campsites are on the fringe of receiving a signal. Is there anything I can add to my laptop to increase receiving range- ie usb adapter with antenna?
I am using my ADSL Internet Connection especially for downloading files those past few months.I have even purchased an account at filesonic. However, the speed remain the same except that there are no waiting period and I can download multiple files at the same time. What are the tips for increasing downloading time? I am now using the latest 5.0 Firefox and Windows 7 and using or not using the download them all add-ons does not add much to the download time.
What about the telephone line cable? The position of the beetel modem, does that play a role in speed limit? Are there some hardware equipment that can cause a subsequent increase in download speed?
ok i have setup a subnet on my uncles network on which i am running a domain with server 2008. i am using a dlink di 624 router and wanted to know if i upgraded to a 300mbps router would this increase the bandwidth within my network?i know i am limited to what i am receiving from my uncle who is also limited to what he is receiving from the ISP. im not worried about internet speed. i want to increase client to server speed for both lan and wireless.
We have lms 3.2 that we are facing a problem with it. When we start the server the EDS-GCF log file size start to increasing rapidly until it consumes up all free space and it only stops when we stop the Daemon Manager service. I tried to do the pds how command but I get no output from it. I included the portion of the EDS and EDS-GCF log files. i searched and didn't find the cause of this error.
Even without Open vSwitch, and using the stock, Linux bonding module with 802.3ad mode I had the same problem.
From what I have read about bonding, it seems like if you bond (for example) 2x 1Gbit Ethernet connections on two servers (ie so both have two ports bonded), then if using something like 802.3ad, a file transfer should utilize both ports, and you should see a throughput of 2 Gbit/s. So this would be an increase in throughput and bandwidth, right?
But, what I generally see, is for any single TCP connection, only one port is ever utilized at a time.So for example if I'm SCPing a large file from server1 to server2, I generally see that the scp session is only using one interface, at 1 Gbit/s. I can then also run a second SCP session which will use the second port, and also move at 1 Gbit/s.
This would be increasing the bandwidth, but not the throughput, correct?Which of these behaviors is what I should be seeing with 802.3ad? I guess it depends on the hashing method? Is there a hashing method which will allow a single connection to be spread over two interfaces, allowing 2Gbit/s transfers?
How can i prevent my Vodafone usb stick device to enter in 3G mode when the network is very low usage or not at all. If i open google for example, it turns automatically on HSUPA mode with a better speed, but if im doing nothing after 1min or so it goes back on 3G more slower speed. So the 3G / HSUPA mode is auto switched depending on demand based on how much speed is needed at that moment. I am playing an online game and the network usage by the game when im inside playing it, is not in that range to trigger the HSUPA mode, and just stay in 3G causing me to have lots of lag, is there a workaround for this so when im playing the game to be connected with HSUPA instead of 3G? ( i was thinking about some kinda of slow trafic generator that generates a litle trafic continuously to trigger that HSUPA mode while im playing, but not sure if is possible and also not too much to affect my conection speed which is slow anyway on a mobile) You can see in the picture, the ping on google while its both modes, as u can see 3-5times ping increase while its on 3G. On the modem page with all the settings Under basic settings For connection it says Always Connected The box underneath says idle timeout 5 (that's in minutes)
I am unable to change that number or even get a cursor to appear in that box (I want to change it to a 0 - my internet connection has been dropping out when going idle). I can't right click or anything. That is using Firefox. When I say dropping out, I mean, the 3 computers on the network become unuseable - nothing works and things don't appear to be connected to the internet even though my green ADSL light stays on like it's connected - it is not.
I tried the same modem page in IE, and that box with the 5 in it is still showing 5, but this time it's just grayed out - again, can't be changed. The firmware updates are all upto date (apparently - according to it's check)
