Setting Up Wireless Internet Port?
Oct 4, 2011
I have a wireless router in my house and I have a Night Owl video surveillance system setup (hardwired) in my garage and a wireless pc. Is there a way or is there some kind of wireless port device I can get to plug into my Night Owl DVR, so I don’t have to run an RJ45 cable from the house to the garage? I was told by Night Owl tech support the DVR would have to be hardwired only. I would like to monitor the surveillance system from a distance or through a computer.

When I try to set a port for forwarding and set the IP address to forward to:192.168.1.108 (of course, I only type in that last number, 108)I get an error message that the number must be between 1 and 65535. It is! Why am I getting this error message?

I recently purchased a Slingbox PRO-HD and the iPad software to view HD on my iPad when I'm away from home. When I setup the Slingbox using their web-based configuration program, it reports that I do not have my network configured for the best performance for internet viewing, which is what I need for the iPad. I suspect that I don't have port forwarding for port 5001 correctly setup on my system. I can successfully connect to my Slingbox away from home on my iPad and my laptop, but the performance is indeed poor.
I have a cable modem and two E2000 routers. The first E2000 is connected to my cable modem in my home office and the second E2000 is in my home theater. I used Cisco Connect on separate PCs to setup the two routers. Here are the details:Cable modem:Scientific AtlantaModel DPX2203 SeriesPart number 4006351'Ethernet' connected to Router 1 'Internet' connection.
Router 1:Cisco LinksysModel E2000IP address 192.168.1.1Wireless enabled.'Internet' connected to Cable modem.'Ethernet' connections:1. Seagate network storage drive2. Desktop PC3. Desktop PC4. Router 2
Router 2:Cisco LinksysModel E2000IP address 192.168.2.1Wireless enabled'Internet' connected to Router 1 'Ethernet 4' connection.'Ethernet' connections:1. Slingbox PRO-HD2. Desktop PC3. A/V Receiver4. Blu-ray player
How do I setup port forwarding for the Slingbox PRO-HD on port 5001? Also, what is the best way to setup two E2000 routers so that I can use both as wireless access points?

I currently have cable internet connected to one router (Linksys E2000 w/ firmware v1.0.03). That router is connected to another router, a Linksys E3200 w/ firmware v1.0.02. In order to properly forward ports through the E3200, I understand that I need to set up a static IP on that router.I've basically followed the steps outlined in this video, but when I enter all the IP addresses for Static IP settings, it won't allow me to access the router's setup page. I try entering the new IP that I've given it (which it tries to direct itself to automatically after I save the settings) and the connection times out. I am able to access the internet otherwise, however. From here I'm forced to do a factory reset on the router and start from square one.

So, what I essentially want to do is share the device connected to the back of my router so that I can remotely access it over the internet. Much like the manual says you can do.
But I'm having trouble. I've currently got the port set at 38, but the website never loads.

There is no "blinking light" indication on my E3000 at the Internet (Yellow label) and Ethernet port no 4. I tried plugging in 2 cables at all of the ports. I got the blinking indication at Port 1 through 3. The same cable's have no response at Port 4 and Internet port. As a result my I am not able to connect to the internet.

I managed on my own to figure out how to Telnet in, activate the web control panel, and then access that via the web. Now here is what I am trying to do, it is not that complicated. We have a FIOS connection with 5 IPS: FIOS comes in as Ethernet, without DHCP.
What I want to Assign to Ports on the Switch:
1) Uplink to FIOS
2) VOIP PBX
3) Point of Sale System
4) Internal Network
5) Public Wifi
6-8: Not in use
Each of the above 2-5 will have a router connected to the switch port, each is a separate segregated network, with its Own public IP.
I want to configure the switch to prioritize traffic in the following manner:
Port 2: VOIP: Always gets TOP priority, then Port 3: PoS (but not that important), then port 4: internal (less important), then port 5: public wifi (least important).

We are trying to setup our ASA 5505 to do port forwarding to multiple internal servers and have run into some issues. A little background on what we are trying to do.
We have 1 static external IP. Internally we have one exsisting server (10.1.1.184) that has port 80 forwarded to it and another exsisting server (10.1.1.185) that has port 443 forwarded to it. Both of these servers are serving seperate web apps to our employees who of course use them offsite. We have now added an additional server (10.1.1.186) that needs to use both ports 80 and 443. Is there any way to set it up so that these ports can be forwarded to all the servers that need them? Also, how would this work as far knowing what traffic will need to go to which server even though it is using the same port?
The equipment is: ASA 5505ASA Version 7.2(4)ASDM Version 5.2(4) I appologize in advance if what I'm trying to do is difficult/impossible. I inherted the ASA 5505 at this location and I was not here when it was initially installed. In fact no one on staff was here when it was initially installed. I did manage to find the passwords to it though. I'm not at all familiar with the ASA 5505 or Cisco secuirty appliances in general.

I was wondering how does failover works on Cisco Small Business RV016. Specifically, I am interested when one WAN line stop working, and all the computers in the LAN start using another line. Does it means that IP addresses of the computers in the LAN will change, or they stay the same? If they change can I set it up that they always stay the same no matter which input WAN they are using?

Just moved into apartment in Ann Arbor and am forced to use this ISP. They are not wireless friendly. Their manual sucks and will only provide tech support for $80/hour. I bought a Belkin router and got it working for my MacBook. BUT my roommate can't connect, even tho her MacBook sees the network. And I can't print to my wireless printer even tho it says everything is fine when I run the wireless diagnostics. The ISP has these rules:
- Only connect the router to the Internet or Wan port. Do not connect to the numbered ports (how do I know whether or not I've done that?)
- Do not use static IP addresses
- Do not run a DHCP server

how to go about setting up the ASA to block any SMTP traffic outbound except for our Exchange Server. This is in relationship to a SpamBot issue that blacklisted us. I have an ASA 5510 running version 6.2(5) / 8.2(2) with three ports. DMZ, Inside and the Outside interface. Up till today, I only needed to block outside traffic to our internal network which I used the ASDM to configure a rule on the outside interface for an incoming rule. I am assuming I need to create an outgoing rule on the outside interface; however, just to make sure I understand the terminology/traffic flow, I created the rule with my computer as the source (192.168.0.131) with ALL destination and the service as HTTP. My logic, which seems to fail here, is that any traffic from my computer going outbound would be blocked; however I am still able to browse... That said, if I were to change the source as the Exchange server and the Service Type to SMTP, it would not actually block traffic and therefore not solve our problem. I even gone as far as permitting traffic from my computer, expanding the hit counter and I see no hits. So I am no doubt doing this wrong. What I do know, is when I first created the rule, a second rule was automatically created (Implicit rule) that deny all sources and blocked all HTTP traffic until I changed it to Permit?

Management purchased a HA package from Cisco consisting of 2 5508's with pre installed 500 users license on the Primary WLC and none on the secondary WLC. We have 5508's already so I am familiar with setting them up and so forth. What I am not familiar with is setting them up using HA for failover and license sharing. I've looked and looked and can't find documentation online showing how to set this up. I have found some but nothing that is complete. I have spent 2 days spinning my wheels.

Due to the way I have my DSL and VOIP TA configured I need to be able to set the subnet mask in the Internet connection. I am currently using the Static IP, putting in an IP of 192.168.1.x with the subnet of 255.255.0.0 when I try to do this it gives me an error saying that 192.168.33.1/255 is reserved for the guest network. I am not using the 33 at all ANYWHERE. If I change the subnet to 255.255.255.0 it will save but I can't connect to the internet with it. My router I just bought today is the E2500 I have an old Linksys WRT model that worked fine with this exact setup for several years before it crashed on me.

One of the ports on the 3750 stack was configured for VLAN121. It was changed to VLAN40 and the configuration saved. Both VLANs exist in the switch configuration. As soon as a host was connected (in this case, a label printer) the port VLAN reverted back to VLAN121.

I am having an issue opening a port (4040) on the 655 for my Fedora-based subsonic server. Inside the LAN, I can see the device from other peer machines, so I am confident the port is open and listening. However, I can't seem to get to the machine-port from outside/internet.
I have tried Virtual Server and Port Forwarding with single port. The server has a stactic IP which I've included in the DHCP range and outside the range. I have a DSL connection (AT&T), modem only. I have updated firmware. I have exhausted the Subsonic community's knowledge, everything points to the router, but all the settings seem correct. What am I missing? Is if possible there is a defect in the router? (don't laugh). Is there a way to trace a request to that port to see where it is hanging?
(yes, I've STFA, but don't know what else to do).

I have a DSL-524B from D-Link. My problem is, whenever I Port Forward port 80 to my comp's IP to host a web server, all the other computers connected to the router are unable to access the Internet. So, I set up no-ip to use port 8080, but, this exposes my ip and even when masking, if you look at the HTML code, you get the ip.I need to know how to open up port 80 without restricting Internet access to only my comp, or any other work around.

restricting access to internet for roughly 20 users. Right now we are connected using broadbandand using dhcp as assigned by common switch. All pc's are in a common workgroup. recommend me the hardware / software required to restrict this access.
1. Will I require a router as well as a switch ? or should I simply get a new switch ( for more then 20 users ) This would mean static ip for all users.
2. My idea is to create a AD server and use websense on it so that users who require internet access can still open internet sites but will be restricted through websense proxy.

I'm trying to portforward for a game, and in order to do so, I'm setting up a static IP. I've portforwarded in the past and all's been fine, but when I'm trying to set a static IP now it allows me to portforward and host the game, but whenever I try to log into any sort of website, it cannot find the page. The only fix to this is to allow it to obtain the IP address automatically. I've had a static IP in the past and yet I've never run into this issue before.
When I go to my TCP/IPV4 settings under the properties of my selected internet connection, I open up my ipconfig(I'll post it below) and select "Use the Following Ip Address". I then input 192.168.1.73, to change it to that.
Then, I click on the subnet mask box and it auto-fills 255.255.255.0, which is listed under ipconfig anyways, and for default gateway I input 192.168.1.1. I leave the DNS server boxes blank because it doesn't list them under ipconfig and it's what I did in the past to achieve the same results. After I click OK, the issue I listed above begins.
Code:
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Tim-PC
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :

I had so much old garbage and damage from old viruses I needed to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows xp from the System OS disk. Computer is up and running now, but I lost a lot of stuff, including my ability to connect to the internet and some drivers. I have cable internet. I downloaded Broadcom advanced control suite and the netxtreme 57xx drivers from the Broadcom site, and installed them with the provided download manager. Nothing seems to be working, the control suite says "No active broadcom network adapters detected in this system"....
note- I've been downloading to a different computer and burning the files to CD, and transferring them to the Dell that way...
