I am looking to permanently reset the default remote management port of the MODEM DPC3825 to something other than 8080. how to PERMANENTLY change the port from 8080? In the web interface under administration I have several times set it to something else other than the defaulted 8080 but when the modem is rebooted or reset, it goes back to the default 8080.

But when I try to connect to the DLink switch, the modem freezes, and doesn't recognize it. My previous setup was modem, to my DLink router (DIR 615), to my switch. With my new setup, I just bypassed the DLink router, because my new modem includes router capability.Is there some compatibility issue between the new modem and the DLink switch?

I've clicked the checkbox for "Allow wireless signal to be repeated by a repeater" and entered my Airport's MAC Address, but my Airport Base station doesn't see it as a WDS Peer.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new RV042 v3 that I just updated to the latest firmware (v4.2.1.02) and have stumbled across an anomaly... I can only access the router from the WAN port using port 80. I happen to have it set to port 8080, but that doesn't work; I have to use standard port 80.
I have two other RV042 units running older firmware and they work as expected and follow the port that is filled in. This one has me puzzled and wondering if this is a bug in the firmware.

I used to be able to simply and quickly change my IP address, by changing the MAC address though my Netgear router. Now when I do that, I can see the IP address has changed in the router settings, but when I double check it using ipburger.com, the IP address does NOT actually change, but remains the same.

So, I have Remote management enabled with HTTP and HTTPS, any IP and default port 8080. But no response from the outside world seems to go through.If I turn of the "filter ICMP" but keep the SPI Firewall on, I get ping reply from external sources towards my router, but still no HTTP or HTTPS response.I also have a Torrent I try to port forward to to be active, this is 23277, and this is the only thing that keeps coming up in the incoming log on my router.

How to get HTTPS to work for local or remote management? Selecting HTTPS for either local or remote doesn't enable HTTPS for me. It still use HTTP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a RV042. remote management is set to DISABLE - but even after restarting the router i can access the interface remotely over the internet.even when i enable it and change the port to say 5555 i can connect to the web interface using either port 5555 but ALSO on port 80.what's wrong here?the only way to stop that was to create a rule that blocks port 80 on the WAN interface. (btw. could this rule affect LAN users when browsing the web?)
View 7 Replies View RelatedOur small business just moved into a new building and I am in charge of setting up the network infrastructure. I am not new to computers or networking but I have never had to deal with this set up before.
Our current set up.We have a cable modem from comcast that has the Coax cable connected to it.The modem has 4 ports on it. The ports are connected to a built in 24 port switch that was already in the building. The switch has it's ports connected to outlets in the walls. Currently we have 4 computers on our network and since the cable modem had 4 ports it worked fine.
What we need? We will have another person join our office so I will need to activate one additional port on the switch that already exists. However, since all 4 ports on the modem are already taken, I have no way to add an additional port. They also want us to get wifi in the building.How I think I have to solve the problem (most likely wrong).I have to get another switch (like 8 port) and connect the cable modem to the switch using a cross over cable (if there is no designated internet port). Since I have the modem connected to the switch, I will have to move the 3 remaining connections to the switch.
Then I connect the 4 remaining ports on the switch to the existing 24-port switch that is already there. I will use one of the outlets in the building to connect an AP for Wi-Fi for better signal. Currently the modem and switches are hidden in a closet away from the office space and would mess up the signal.
I was working with Motorola SB6120 cable modem regarding an odd power cycle issue (it would power cycle randomly for 24 hours). While trying to diag the issue, I was taking a peak in his router config and found a port set to forward as:

I understand that his modem admin page is now available from the internet. He said his friend set this up to "modem", but I don't see any advantage of having this done. At this point what are the other advantages of forwarding such ports?Another key note: When the port forwarding was disabled, suddenly the power cycle issues stopped.
I have a modem Scientific Atlanta 2100. I just installed windows 8 pro 64bit and when installing the driver to use the usb cable modem does not recognize it and simply not installed. I wonder if it is possible to use my usb cable modem or simply incompatible with my windows 8 64bit pro.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't get a new IP from my ISP when my Cable modem router(EPC3925) is set to router mode, i have tried factory restore, unplugged etc..but still no luck. It changes each time i reset it when i set it to bridged only mode but then i won't be able to connect other devices to it since it doesn't uses DHCP in bridged only mode. It changes back to the IP i had when i set it to router mode. I don't want to change my router settings to bridged only because it would disconnect the other devices in my house. Why my ISP assigns the same IP address when it's set to router mode but assigns different IPs when it's set to bridged only, how is this possible ?

The 7550 was easily hooked up with two cords: the Ethernet cord into the computer and the Internet/data cable hooked into the DSL filter. I thought the EA6500 would have an easy installation, but it has not gone so smoothly. I hypothesize it's one of two problems - either the Internet/data cable is incompatible with the EA6500 (the cable works; I've re-tested it on the 7550), or it is because all instructions mention plugging the Internet/data cable into a modem's port while I do not have a modem. My Internet comes from a DSL filter attached to a telephone jack in the wall.

I am connected to internet via a cable modem, via the LAN cable, I connect cable modem to WAG120N that I want to use as an wireless access point only. And I have got 2 PC, 1 runs on XP, the other on runs on Windows 7. My XP would have no trouble to connect to wireless, but the Win7 can only connect to wireless network, but no internet.
