I am looking to permanently reset the default remote management port of the MODEM DPC3825 to something other than 8080. how to PERMANENTLY change the port from 8080? In the web interface under administration I have several times set it to something else other than the defaulted 8080 but when the modem is rebooted or reset, it goes back to the default 8080.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

I can't get traditional broadband services, so I've been making due with Verizon's Mobile Broadband service. Problem is, it's expensive and has a 5GB cap per month. I read about powerline networking and thought it sounded good, so I bought all the adapters and a router. Problem is, I didn't have the prior knowledge to realize I also needed a modem as well. How or if I'd be able to set up any sort of modem in my home, considering services like Verizon can't reach me?

I recently purchased an EA6500 router to replace the crappy Westell 7550 AT&T provided me with. The 7550 was easily hooked up with two cords: the Ethernet cord into the computer and the Internet/data cable hooked into the DSL filter. I thought the EA6500 would have an easy installation, but it has not gone so smoothly. I hypothesize it's one of two problems - either the Internet/data cable is incompatible with the EA6500 (the cable works; I've re-tested it on the 7550), or it is because all instructions mention plugging the Internet/data cable into a modem's port while I do not have a modem. My Internet comes from a DSL filter attached to a telephone jack in the wall.

I am connected to internet via a cable modem, via the LAN cable, I connect cable modem to WAG120N that I want to use as an wireless access point only. And I have got 2 PC, 1 runs on XP, the other on runs on Windows 7. My XP would have no trouble to connect to wireless, but the Win7 can only connect to wireless network, but no internet. It changes each time i reset it when i set it to bridged only mode but then i won't be able to connect other devices to it since it doesn't uses DHCP in bridged only mode. It changes back to the IP i had when i set it to router mode. I don't want to change my router settings to bridged only because it would disconnect the other devices in my house. Why my ISP assigns the same IP address when it's set to router mode but assigns different IPs when it's set to bridged only, how is this possible ?

I have a wireless modem (e3200) connected to the cable modem. My wireless devices pull a 198.x.x.x ip address. Can connect to the internet just fine, BUT..Because of this (im assuming) I cannot add my printer to my wireless laptop. Different networks, wont connect via share name etc.So, if i turn off DHCP and NAT on the wireless router, shouldnt my laptop pull DHCP from the cable modem and get a 10.x.x.x IP address while connected wirelessly?My wired computers can connect to the shared printer just fine, only my wireless computers cannot. I have another printer that is networked (connected directly to the switch, no computer) with a static ip of 10.x.x.199. My laptop can connect and print to it just fine. I just cant connect to the printer that is attached to the 10.x.x.x computer.

Connection through LAN is fine into desktop however the minute we try to connect an additional wireless router the connection fails. We have even put the LAN from the second Wireless into the desktop and there is no connectivity.We have had a technician come to sort the problem, they advise that they have no explanation as to why the LAN works from the distance but the wireless does not. They have suggested that we need to cut the CAT5 half way and put an antenna up to connect the two routers.

I have followed the instructions on the set up wizard but it fails to get a connection with the IP and DNS info I provide.I got the IP address info by connecting intially direct from the modem to the PC and then went to Run CMD and type ipconfig /all. I then started the set up wizard and followed the instructions, turning things on in specific order etc. After input the IP and DNS info it reports an error and tells me to check the address information is correct.My internet is a static IP connection (so it tells me and the IP information doesn't change).
