TP-Link G Much Faster Than Both BT Homehub N / TP-Link N?
Feb 8, 2011
have a TP-Link G router, was getting 736kb download, have set up a TP link N (300) but am only getting 560kb download, (my standard BT home hub N was also not as good giving me 640kb download....
with Wired conection results were....
TP-Link G - 752kb
BT Homehub N - 648kb
TP-Link N - 590kb
laptop - Dell XPS, with N wireless
Windows Vista, sp2.
used [URL] to check all the speeds.
why the TP-Link G is so much faster than both the BT Homehub N or the TP-Link N ?
So I had an iphone 4 and switched my signal to B and G only to get better service since my iPhone 4 only had G so not worth having N.Speedtest.net is about 5.69mbps download.I got a new iphone 5 and switch to G and N mixed thinking I'd get better speeds. When I switched speeds stayed about the same.
I do want a mixed signal if possible for PS3, other iphone 4, and laptops that don't have N wireless. Is that to be expected? or is something else going on that I'm missing?I'm running Firmware Version: 1.35NA and Hardware Version: A4
I just read online that in order to get real life high speed from your N router you need to set it to only N, or not have any other G devices connected. If not it wil fall back on the G speed. Here the text:" Wireless N claims "real world" speeds of 130-160Mbps, with a listed maximum of 300Mbps. This is reliant on the router transmitting in full 802.11n mode, which is impossible when an 802.11g device is also connected to the network."And if so. What is real life expected speed on the dir 655 on a wireless 300 card excelent connection either with pure N and then with combined N/G?
About two weeks ago, my internet connection became faster. I am not sure if it has to do with my cable ISP doing something or something I did with my computer.
Right around the same time, my connection began disconnecting every two or three days. Before this, I had a rock solid connection for two years.
It will usually reconnect after a minute. Otherwise, when I boot my computer, the problem is solved.
I am certain there is a correlation between the connection speed going up and my connection becoming less stable.
I have recently acquired a network connection of 100Mbps download and upload, and a dir 615 with dd-wrt.
I made all the connections and configurations , and everything seems to work fine it says it's connected at 300 mbps wifi, except it is not . I tested the internet speed and got this :
80 mbps Upload 35 mbps Download
I know that connecting via wifi will loose bandwith, the problem ins't that, I just cant seem to find the cause for the download rate to be less than upload and not equal... , when connected to the cable I get a stable 100/100.
So i'm behind a fiber 100mbit connection, and for the past few weeks i've been noticing overall slowness on everything video related, from youtube to any kind of stream using flash video. If I try to watch a video on youtube it will constantly buffer, the same with stuff like ustream and the like.
The odd thing is that I have VPN service that I use to avoid regional restrictions, and when I use it to stream anything, then all the videos and streams are silky smooth and load pretty quickly which is odd since It should work on reverse. Also, a speed test through the proxy gives me no more than 10mbit, while without the proxy I get 95+mbit.
Is it something with the router? I've never heard of the ISP throttling stuff.Like I said, everything works perfectly, except video streams. I can max out torrents at more than 10 MB/s.The router im using is a D-link dir-855 (provided by my isp). I head about disabling QoS.
I cant figure it out and can not find a solution. All three computers have gigabit nics, I have gigabit router and switch, my d-link 321 is set to gigabit, the only thing on my network that is not gigabit is my printer. I'm not getting gigabit transfer speed from my computer to dlink 321. I rarely do computer to computer transfers, so I dont know what the speed is of that. The best tranfer rate is from 7-12mb. I am also using cat 5e wires on all connections. What am I missing?
I have a DI-604 D-link router, is it necessay to upgrade to newer router to get faster access to internet? Upgrade Firmware? I have a PD950 processor with Win XP pro and use it for DAYTRADING streaming data and fast executions.
I have just given my Mum an old Dell desktop computer of mine. She has BT Broadband with a Homehub. I have connected everything up and installed the Homehub software on the computer but when it tries to search for the network connection via the BT software, it keeps saying the network card can not be detected. The network cable is plugged in and working. All the drivers are up to date.
I am trying to remove my BT Homehub2 and replace it with a router connected to the ADSL line using RJ11 to RJ45 cable in f0/0 configured ip address 86.177.164.200.F0/1 is configured to 192.168.1.254 (current BT Homehub IP) this is connected to my 48port cisco switch in port GI1/0/48.VLAN1 set to DHCP and my host is connected to GI1/0/2 and also configured to DHCP.Ignoring the WAP for now, what am I doing wrong? I know it will be a small IP issue somewhere, do I need to configure GI1/0/48 and GI1/0/2 with IP address'? Am I using the wrong ISP address on my routers F0/0 port?
for some reason my laptop disconnects randomly and i cannot connect again until i go and reset the router. if i try to reconnect without reseting the router i get the message 'cannot connect to BT homehub xxx' it happens at least 4 or 5 times a day, it happened at my previous address too (completely different router & isp) im not quite sure what other info i can give relating to the matter.
My wife has a Samsung N150 that connects wirelessly everywhere except at home. All other wireless devices work on the BT HomeHub but not the N150.We have just been on holiday and the N150 connected to everything we came across, without a hitch.
Unfortunately we are stuck with a bt homehub 2.0. We all hate this thing with a passion. We cant workout how to open the same port on 2 devices. When we try it says theres a conflict and just refuses to let us do it. So only one of us can play the game we want, without it timing out. Now I've tried the BT forums, there was no support there. I phoned up BT and to my absolute disgust, nobody there knew how to use the homehub, or simply said 'turn off the firewall'.

Two week ago I bought the TD-W8970 ADSL router model. Im using a canon pixma IP4700 printer connected to the router USB print server port and everything is working without any issues if I just look to the router functionalities.
However since that Ive installed TP-LINK USB Printer Controller, my both computers (desktop with windows 7 and laptop with windows 8) are getting very often some BSOD.
I was editing all files automatically generated by windows on this cases and if seems that the cause of this issue is the file TplinkUDSMBus.sys (installed by USB Printer Controller).
To check the impact of this, Ive uninstalled the TP-LINK USB Printer Controller software from my laptop and I dont have any BSOD since 5 days ago. In the desktop Im still have the same issue.
The router print server is a nice functionality and I really want to use it.

I just upgraded my DLink DIR655 to WDR4300. My VOIP service has worked for the last 5 years. But with WDR4300, I'm frequently experiencing dropped calls. The call will be cut off every 20 seconds or so. This is really a deal-killer.

I am trying to set up port forwarding on this router but it seems I need to use virtual servers but in all the guides there is a menu for this under the advance settings nat menu.I do not have that option, I have downloaded the latest firmware but still nothing.
when I connect my DIR-655 to the Motorola SB6141 cable modem I notice that the link speed LED on the cable modem never glows blue indicating a gigabit connection, it only glows amber indicating a lower negotiated speed. I am using a Cat6 cable between the two devices and have also tried a Cat5e cable.
When I try and force the WAN port speed to 1000Mpbs in the router interface the cable modem link speed will not light at all with no connectivity. Only resetting to Auto WAN port speed restores functionality albeit at the lower negotiated speed setting.
I'm running the DIR-655 rev B1 at 2.03NA firmware level.
I did connect the modem directly to my PC that uses an Intel Gigabit ethernet card and still had the lower connection indication (Amber) so it seems that the modem might be faulty.

When i connect to router by laptop the internet works fine, but when i connect to router by phone i have an internet access only 5 second and than i lost it, but still connected. I don't know what is the problem here, maybe phone?

I have a BSNL BB connection. When I use the connection directly, without adding TP Link router, all the websites open flawlessly. Once when I connect the wireless router, certain websites for example Yahoomail, pepperfry.com, yepme.com don't open at all. These are just examples, but I'm unable to access many sites which is a bit annoying. But sites such as gmail, youtube, facebook open clean, there are no issues. I didn't make any configuration changes too. I tried it more than three or four times, but there is a restricted access only.
We have a customer who has a network consisting of two ISPs, one as a primary and the other as a backup. We are trying to create a configuration that would allow the primary link to fail and the secondary link to automatically pick up traffic and begin routing .how to set something like this up. Both routers are non Cisco routers and there for HSRP is out.
I have a DIR-655 Rev B, in a typical cascaded config: modem > dir-555 > switches & devices, etc.One of the four dir-655 ports is connected to a cheap-o Belink Wifi router which I use as an access point (I only use this because there's one device that only supports WEP). I was debugging a WiFi issue and I pulled the plug on this Belkin just to get it out of the picture. Well, when I did that, EVERYTHING that was connected through the DIR-655 lost connection. (Well, all the wired stuff anyway- not sure about WiFi devices through the DIR-655). I noticed that the port link light for the powered-off device stayed on on the DIR-655. When I unplugged the cable from the DIR-655, everything went back to normal.
So what I'm trying to figure out now is, is this a DIR-655 issue, or is it something screwy with the Belkin? Or Both? I've got to assume that there's some inherent flaw in the DIR-655 that allows something connected to a port to screw up everything that it's hosting.
I'm in an issue w/ on of our ISPs. We're using an ADSL line as a secondary light load line ( 16 MBit, /w PBR in place to separate the 80 and 443 from the business-critical applications running via a SDSL link. ).
I am on a 2611 XM with IOS 12.2, mated to a D-Link 321B modem running in transparent mode. After running smoothly for weeks, for a few days now, every night some time between 2 AM and 4 AM the link would die with the dialer showing:
Virtual-Access1 is up, line protocol is down Hardware is Virtual Access interface [code]....
To my knowledge, the only option to bring it up again is to reload the box . Taking into account that the router is our DHCP server and the date gets reset to 1994, interesting effects are the outcome of resetting the box.
Well, the ISP have checked their gear and keep saying that these report a "port error" ( quite unspecific ) and blame me that I have a wrong. config in place - which is here:
interface Dialer2 description ecotel Bridge ip address negotiated no ip proxy-arp [code]...
I have a DIR-655 that I have been using for a while (b1 revision). and suddenly I noticed my wifi speed fluctuates constantly. My lenovo Y580 sees speed drop to 130 immediately and then it can slowly progress to 1 Mbps until the hardware is all rebooted. Same happens to my Nexus 7, Dell XPS M1530 and to my roku. I have updated to 2.07 (since 2.10 is advised to avoid). And I have attempted changing channels or factory refresh. What Firmware version is currently loaded? 2.07What region are you located?
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL? Cable (link speed independent of internet speed)What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router? Separate Motorola ((link speed independent of modem)What ISP Modem make and model do you have? Does not matter, router issue. If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. Not bridged
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic. Independent of issue, not a factor
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing. Wired works perfect.Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended. Wireless issue.
The 2 routers are Di-524UP and Dir-655.I have 2 routers and 2 modems,Computer 1 and and 2 are running on the same router as they have low internet usage.Computer usually does large amount of downloading and streaming and requires a separate connection as not to lag the browsing for computer 1 and 2.How could I link router 1 and 2 together so that my computer 3 could deposit files that are downloaded over the internet through wireless lan into my NAS.Or are there any devices that can bridge 2 routers with 2 different network connections over the same lan network.
I have a dir-825 and wireless clients connected on the 5ghz ssid can see clients on 2.4 ssid and also out to the WAN (internet) but can't see any clients (my NAS ) connected to the dir-825 wired lan.2.4 ghz clients see everything fine. same with clients connected through the wired lan. I've tried DHCP and static ips. no idea what to do next.I was originally on 2.02 fw and have tried 2.03, 2.05 and now 2.06I'd really like to keep the 5ghz on because I have an AP by my tv and several devices connect from there to stream from the NAS.
Im trying to use my DIR 655 as an access point from my new router, which is a TP-Link TL-R860. I've read about every post and blog I can find about this and still cant get it to work. Currently I have a cable running from the TP main router to LAN port 1 on the 655. I then plugged my computer in to LAN port 2 to configure the router.
I have a TP-Link (TL-WR941ND) wireless router in my living room and I want to expand my connectivity to get to the bedrooms area. I have a D-link (DI-524)wireless G router I want to take advantage of. How can I connect the two routers (no cables to be used) together so I can have acces to the internet from my room?
If i go wired i get 100mbps on both my laptop and desktop unit if i switch to wireless they both go 135 to 150 mbps any ideas? both units have megabit cards. My laptop i use at work at 1.0gbps no problem. It doesnt change no mater where i plug into at home or with different cables same speeds
