I read on this forum that can be used WAP4410N configured as repeater, without wired connection. Can someone who has used this solution to confirm that it works? What configuration should be done on the router WRT160N to permit wireless signal to be repeated by WAP4410N?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a WRT300N Linksys Router and I have not been very happy with it's performance. I know it's old now, but the final straw was when I started to need UPNP and the router keeps turning it off. I can only get it to work for an hour or so at a time by rebooting the router. Then after some time my device tells me UPNP is not working again. I saw some articles about this and tried several fixes, and I am beyond caring whether it works with UPNP anymore. I bought a NetGear N600 to replace it and so far it is working great. I had a linksys WRT54G years ago and it was a workhorse, never had any issues and it is still working today at a friend's house. I have had several Linksys routers since and have had nothing but bad luck. So I am giving Netgear a try.
Anyway... Now I have the Netgear router working I want to use the linksys to extend my wireless network. I ran a cable to the other side of my house where the wireless signal was not so good and plugged the cable into a LAN port on the WRT300N router. I then disabled the the firewall settings and DHCP, etc. I turned off UPNP (Not that I needed to, but I figured it would start working since I don't need it now and cause issues) I also turned off NAT. But I have an app that is telling me that I have 2 devices doing NAT on my network and the app doesn't like it.
how I can for SURE turn off NAT on the WRT300N router? I am getting ready to just go get another Netgear device and take the Linksys one out Office Space style.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirmware 1.0.00 on my E4200 Hardware v1.0 provided a functioning 6to4 tunnel through Comcast's 6to4 facility. Windows and Linux clients on my local network discovered IPv6 addresses and were able to use them successfully.Unfortunately, after the upgrade to 1.0.03 this functionality was gone. I missed reading the ChangeLog, which said that the automatic tunneling feature was removed in 1.0.01. The now provided IPv6 functionality works much less well. First, automatic configuration (discovery of the 6to4 via IPv4 anycast) no longer works with Comcast's gateway. If I configure the tunnel manually, by specifying a 2002/16 prefix, I regain IPv6 connectivity, but only for Linux clients on my local network.
Windows 7 clients suffer from the problem that because the E4200 hands out ULA addresses, they end up preferring those ULA addresses when making global IPv6 connections in the IP 'source' field, which of course does not work. It's like putting your company mailbox code as the return address on a letter you send via US Mail. Other home routers, such as the AVM Fritz! (url,...) suffer from the same problem. However, they provide an option to turn off ULA at the router. Is it possible to turn off ULA for the E4200?
If the wifi can be turned off on the E1500. I got this unit from a family member and do not need the wifi part, as I have two computers, but are in the same room. I have the cisco connect on my computer and do not see a disable wifi in the program anywhere.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to reset my IP address, so I called my cable internet service provider and they walked me through the process. I unplugged the ethernet cable from my router and connected my computer directly to my modem. Then, I unplugged the coax cable from my modem, plugged in back in again, and within Windows did ipconfig/renew in the command prompt. This successfully changed my IP address.
Then, I ran my wires back into the router again (instead of plugging the computer directly into the modem). To my surprise, the old IP address was back again! So, I went into linksys 192.168.1.1 screen to release the IP address and started the process over again.
I got a new IP address once again, but now the Linksys router can't seem to figure out the new IP address so nothing works going through the router.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had enough of BT's shoddy Home Hub router dying whenever I transfer large files over wifi so I want to go back to a trusty Linksys and I'm looking at the WAG320N.
I've got a family member who is convinced wifi is harmful, so to avoid an argument I've agreed to switch it off at night. My last Linksys let me do this via a custom firmware, but the WAG320N isn't a Linux based model. So, my question is: can I set wifi to switch itself off at night from e.g. 11pm until 8am? Preferably this will be an actual switch-off rather than just preventing access via certain wifi devices.
If it can't do it, any alternative Linksys ADSL2+ modem that can?
I have a WRT54G router, and when I am in the security area, where you choose WPA, WEP, etc... I keep clicking the dropdown menu, and when I choose anything BUT disable, the security auto-sets back to disable. I have rebooted the router. I have rebooted the modem. I have changed my router's password. How do I turn my WEP back on without it just saying. Also, for additional notation, my US light on my modem is no longer green, it is orange since this issue has occured. Is there any connection that might be related to this?

I cannot get into my Linksys WRT160N router web page. I'm hardwire connected to the router. My computer is using DHCP IP addressing. The router has assigned it the standard 198.169.1.100. I can ping the router at 192.168.1.1. Wireless and Wired connections through the router to the internet are OK, no trouble accessing internet sites. Linksys advisor displays the router address as 192.168.1.1, so it has not been changed from the factory default. The advisor shows my networked devices clear back to the internet and claims there are no problems. After entering 192.168.1.1 into IE, IE appears to connect and is waiting for the router to respond. After a few minutes, it times out with failure to connect message. I've tried Safe mode with internet access, I've temporarily disabled my Windows and McAfee Firewalls, and the McAfee virus scanner. All to no avail.

I have a wrt160n v3. This is the 3rd one - both the first 2 were defective. I have spent approximately 8 hours troubleshooting the other 2 only to be told they're defective. So, I got a new one. Now, this one keeps cutting in and out. I want as my iPhone constantly switches from 3G to wifi on and over every minute. It really ticks me off! What can I do to fix this? This is a different issue than the original one (very slow) and 2nd (no signal). It's disappointing for a $90 router to do this. I also see the wireless icon on the router flash.
