I run a business and have customers who would like to use my wireless internet. I previously had a completely open network that I would allow them to use, until someone illegally downloaded a movie and got us in trouble. I would like to allow use of the network again, but limit activities like this. Basically, so they could only do basic web browsing, etc.

I was wondering if there are any wireless routers I can buy that I can set a bandwidth limit for the specific router. Due to teenage girls in the house we hit the weekly limit in a day or two because of all the music videos and such that they watch on you tube, it is annoying getting limited to the 256kbps download rate so often.

My goal is to limit incoming bandwith for two specific vlans. So users who are plugged into the switch or connected to the wifi can't go bandwidth crazy.
The rule I currently have setup on the ASA5510 is limiting internal bandwidth, I know shame on me.
So how do I setup a rule on the ASA5510 that will limit users external traffic on vlans without limit internal lan traffic?
I have an RV220W which I would like to set bandwidth limiting on. When we upload files to yousendit or an FTP server, it saturates the connection and essentially stops any other traffic until the upload is finished. Looking at the manual, it looks like it should do this, but does not seem clear to me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo my ISP (Telus) recently replaced our old router with a ZyXEL VSG1432. I'm currently having a huge lag issue when my roommates laptop is connected to our network. He is connected via wireless, I'm wired. So I did some searching around and I think i can solve this by limiting his bandwidth with QoS settings. I'm getting conflicting information here though. After logging into the router there are no QoS options yet according to ZyXEL's website url...This router should have the settings available. Is it possible that Telus does something to remove this feature? Is there some not so obvious way to enable QoS? Is there some other way to limit the bandwidth?

They also use our FiOS connection and I have came to the conclusion that my cousin's laptop is eating away all of the bandwidth which makes all devices using FiOS have extremely slow internet speeds. I know it is his computer because I logged in as admin to the Verizon FiOS page (192.168.1.1) and I saw that he is using several P2P applications and downloading torrents as well. Is there a way I can limit the bandwidth he is using so that the internet speed can improve? I looked at the QoS tab and tried to play around with the settings, but I don't want to mess it up. The router I have is Actiontec M1424-WR (Verizon FiOS 20 Down/5 Up). A lot of sources I am reading says that I have to use the QoS, but I don't know how to use it on the site.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI will have this one router. Its f0/0 will be for the Internet connection with bandwidth of 30Mbps. Its f0/1 will be connected to a switch for internal networks. This link will be separated to 3 VLANs for 3 internal networks. I'm wondering if there is a way to gurantee 10Mbps for each VLAN but allow use up to 30Mbps when another two VLANs are not using any Internet bandwidth? I only worry about download bandwidth from internet.The 3 internal networks will all have public IPs and they belong to their own subnets. There won't be NAT/PAT.

I want to provide guest wireless which goes out a different port on the WLC to a guest firewall/cable modem. However, we want to prevent our internal laptops from being able to use the guest wireless. I have RADIUS (IAS) and LDAP for my AD available. We would prefer not to have use Lobby Ambassador and just have the guests use a simple password or web passthru. Guests may be laptops or smartphones. What options are available? I have tried a test setup using dynamic vlan assignments from RADIUS using the IETF flags, but can't seem to get it to work. Is there a way to identify the SSID is being used at the RADIUS server?

I currently use a E2500 router for my home network. I have setup the Wireless guest Network for my downstairs Tenant while he is out of work so he can still have some internet. The problem however is that often the guest network will take up 90% of my 55mb/sec bandwidth, leaving none for the primary network. Is there a way for me to Throttle the amount of bandwidth the Guest network can use? Say alot 10mb/sec for Guest access only, and leave the rest for our main network?

We are three guys sharing a flat. We have personal laptops, work laptops, mobile phones, games consoles, tablets etc that connect to the internet.
Problem is that when someone downloads stuff, the speed is slow for the rest of us. So i was hoping i could set up something like three "channels" so each of us could have the same download speed, ie 1 mbs each regardless if others are using the network at the same time. And then maybe a guest network for all the mobiles and tablets etc. MAC filtering for access for our personal laptops should work.
We have a 20mbit cable network line.
Can i do all of this on the E2000 and how?
This is the first time I am trying my hands on wireless gears. I have 2500 WLC and 1142 AP (which I converted from Standalone to LAP).I have a layer 3 POE switch where i am using port 1 for the WLC which is a trunk port.
Port 2 is for the AP using access vlan 111
Port 3 is trunk port going to a router where i am running dhcp server for the VLANs which are as follow:
VLAN 110 -Corp Wireless (10.1.110.0/24)
VLAN 111 - AP-Mgmt (10.1.111.0/24)
VLAN 999 - Guest (10.1.101.0/24)
I wanted to block the traffic from the Guest VLAN 999 but when i apply the ACL on the Guest Interface created on the WLC, I dont see any pings going across and neither I see any hit counts on the deny statement as if the ACL is never applied.
How can I limit bandwidth speed of guest accounts? Or are there free softwares available to do something like that? It's kinda like the hotspot softwares - where we can set hourly, daily, monthly allowances and see a report on their connectivity.

They want to move to an 802.1x solution.
Now MS-CHAPv2 is proably the obvoius choice (maybe it isnt considering Linux and MAC clients ... comments???). However the only option to integrate with AD is LDAP i.e remote agents or an upgrade to 5.x is out of the question.

Each hostel has a particular proxy address that allows us to access the internand by low i mean, quite lowet, and each user has a fixed bandwidth(which is low). My question is, is there a way for one user of a particular hostel to use the bandwidth of multiple users of the same hostel(such that they are in the same ip range, and have the same proxy server for accessing the internet).i.e Is there a way for me to increase my bandwidth by using the bandwidths of other non allocated ips within the range of my hostel, such that with a single broadband connection, i can utilize the the unallocated bandwidth.
