View 1 RepliesMy Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem. Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

VCI: These 2 already came with presets. Should I just leave them?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a buddy who owns a bar and wants to install a insecure wireless router for his customers downstream from his SBC Global ATT Modem/Wireless Router combo.
-Modem/Router Combo: Actiontec GT724WG
-Downstream Unsecure Wireless Router: D-Link DIR-651
He says has 3 static ips for the modem, and 1 of the network cables coming from the modem directly into the D-Link Router. I first attempted to just plug it into the uplink, and let DCHP do its magic, but I had no luck with that. I could connect to the router but it didn't have internet.
So I restarted the downstream router, and plugged the network cable into the 1st port, and suddenly I had internet on the wireless but it would constantly go up and down, and ping times were extreme erratic.
I have a wireless modem/router combo right now provided to me by Centrylink, its the Q1000. I am trying to hook up a 2nd router to our network to extend range and allow extra ethernet connections points. The new (2nd) Router is a Linksys E1200. I have been told by multiple sources it should be possible to hook the Linksy's router to the modem/router, but I am still not sure how to. All of the directions I have read involve disconnecting the old router (in my case, the Q1000) and then connecting the new router (E1200) in order to configure it. But I am not sure how to do this with out the internet access provided by the old router. how to cascade like this while using a modem/router

Maybe the lack of modem isn't my problem, but I can't figure out anything else it could be.

I found my old Westell modem/router that was through Verizon DSL, but I don't have Verizon anymore, and I have Service Electric. I had asked my questions over at DSLReports, and they said Westell could be used as a Ethernet router, but they still doesn't fully answer my questions. The Westell modem/router model is A90-750015-07. I only have a modem through Service Electric. My questions are could this Westell modem/router be used as a separate wireless only router? Like, the D-link, and Linksys sells wireless routers, right? People could connect to it, or people could enable WPA for more secured? Could this modem/router act as wireless without the need of a DSL link through Verizon? I know on some wireless routers others are able to connect the modem to router using a WAN port, and then router to PC using a LAN port. However, I did not see any ports on this Westell for LAN and WAN. I'll show what I see from left to right.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have owned a this router for nearly a year now, and recently it has been acting up.Today I added a static connection or something of the like for my Xbox, with the correct ip gateway and subnet mask. Since the restart it has never stopped cycling the boot sequence without end. The download lights cycle and the router light flashes constantly. And I am unable to connect to the router page at 192.168.2.1 So I cannot reset the router, the hardware reset button just momentarily pauses the endless booting process.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI turned on my PC this morning and I found I could not connect to the Internet. I have a few other computers and devices in the house that are ALL connecting to the Internet fine. I've tried basic things like unplugging /re-plugging the Ethernet cable, resetting router, attempting to set up a new network, system restore, running norton anti-virus to detect any potential problems etc all of which haven't resolved the issue.
I also checked my device manager to see if my drivers were up to date and I found that under 'Other Devices' my Network Controller stated that the drivers were not installed. I'm not sure if this is the issue (considering my Internet was working absolutely fine less than 24hrs beforehand) but I can't search the Internet to automatically find the driver for obvious reasons.
I found a few people suggesting to use the hardware id to find the appropriate driver, any direct link to the driver. My network controller hardware id is below:
