View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my wireless router from D-Link DIR-615 to D-Link DIR-685. Before the changeover, all of my devices were connecting to the router, although I had several problems with dropped connections, etc. The devices in use were:
- Desktop computer
- Laptop computer
- All-in-one touchscreen computer
- Netbook
- iPhone (original model)
- HP TouchPad tablet
- Sony Blu-Ray player
- Two internet radios (Aluratek and Livio)
- Wii
ALL of these devices were connected wirelessly to the network. When I set up the new router, I used a different network name/SSID, but kept the same security key/password. All of the router settings were kept the same (e.g., WPA-2, etc.). After the new router was up and running, every single one of the devices listed above connected (after an initial setup with the new network name, of course) EXCEPT the All-in-one/touchscreen computer. I've tried over and over, and it refuses to accept the security key/password. (The desktop, laptop, and touchscreen are all running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.) After doing some research, I tried some suggested solutions, but nothing seems to work. Nothing on the problem computer has changed since it was last connected to the old router. I checked the "Properties" of the network device on both the Desktop (which has no problems connecting) and the Touchscreen, and they are identical: WPA-2, AES, etc. And I'm 100% positive I'm entering the security key correctly. I've rebooted the router and the computer several times.
set up the wireless network at a friend's house, which is a large solid-brick house that winds from one end to the other. The current location of where the cable comes into the house is unfortunately on the far-left end of the house, which means that the right end of the house receives no signal from their DIR-825 wireless N router.
What I've been looking into is the best way to wirelessly extend the wireless signal to the other end of the house. It seems straightforward enough to use an ethernet cable and access point to extend a wireless network, but that is not really a good option for this house. After reading many forum posts (and not being an expert myself) it seems like it may be possible to wirelessly extend the wireless network with another router, although it appeared that this is much less common (if at all possible) with wireless N routers.
what device I need to accomplish what I've described above? Another router, or some kind of access point/bridge? I saw at least one rather expensive wireless N repeater online (a Hawking brand, I believe) but was hoping to avoid that option initially, but if that is the only way to go then so be it :-)

There is no wireless connection icon under network connections neither is there a device listed under network adapters in the device manager. View 2 Replies View RelatedMy USB Belkin Wireless G Network Adapter seems to disconnect whenever I remove another USB device (usually a memory stick) from the PC.The problem started when I accidentally updated the driver via Windows. It didn't seem to work at all with this updated driver and I couldn't roll back or do a system restore to fix it. I'd done this before and ended up doing a complete re-install of Win 7. This time I did an upgrade install and the driver problem was cured.I'm running a HP XW8400 with Win 7 64 Pro which has been faultless for the 5 years I've had it.The only other change I've made recently is that I've stopped using a D-Link USB hub and started using the USB connectors on the HP LP2465 monitor. This only affects the wireless and no other USB devices.
When it disconnects, Win troubleshooting goes through the motions and reverts to LAN and doesn't see the wireless USB at all. This also happens if I don't use the troubleshooter.Device manager shows the driver to be working, but the wireless USB doesn't function even if I connect it directly to a USB port. The router is still working as all other devices in the house are connected. The only way around it seems to be a re-boot, but when this fault happens the PC gets stuck at "Shutting Down". Without the fault, re-boot or shut down works fine. When it happens I have to power off and on. This usually works fine but every now and then I notice the device driver for the Belkin is disabled.I've found a workaround in that I can take out the Belkin USB before removing another USB device. After the USB stick or whatever is removed if I then reconnect the wireless USB it reconnects fine.

Right now, plug and play isn't working. How do I get a Wireless Connection to show up in my device manager? This is for my PC. I also have a couple drivers I could use but I don't know how to install them because they are not exe files. I recently purchased a Linksys EA4500 Dual-Band N900 Router with Gigabit and USB. Everything set up great with no problems and after a day or 2 I managed to get all home devices connected (2 laptops, 2 printers, an iphone, 1 tv, 1 blu-ray, an old desktop, and a tablet). Everything was connected right and working and I installed the Linksys app on my iPhone which let me see what devices were connected and all that. Well, last night, an unknown device showed up as a connected device. It's labeled as: android_(insert string of characters) and has a MAC address. I've tried and tried to identify what this device is and I can't. Everything else on our network is still showing up independently of that device. I'm worried that someone using our connection and possibly putting our device security at risk. What can I do to A) try to identify what the device is and B) if it is an intruder, block it's access.

In the absence of true QoS capability on the 4300, what is the best way to give bandwidth priority to one of my network devices?
I have an Apple Airport Extreme connected to my network. It is used to stream music from my Ipod to my sound system. I do this through my network (rather then connecting the IPod directly to the AE) so that I can connect to radio stations over the internet. The problem is that I'm getting random dropouts (pauses in streaming). I've shut down everything on the IPod to make sure that there are no Apps competing for WIFI resources. The dropouts happen even if there is little activity on the network (e.g., file downloads, youtube, etc.)
What I want to do is to get the 4300 to give top priority to the AE. How can I do this without QoS capability? Can I allocate more bandwidth to the AE when it is receiving streaming data?
Note: The AE is always connected to the network. It uses DHCP to get it's IP address. It is connected to the 5G band. Signal strength is typically 1 to 2 of 3 bars (average is 1.5 bars). The 2.4G band has a slightly higher signal strength but the same dropouts occur so the problem does not appear to be signal strength.
Experienced problems with guest network not showing up as an available network on a device (laptop, iPad, etc)?I double checked if guest network is enabled on a EA3500 router. What other steps can I take?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a Linksys EA 4500.I set up the wifi properly, with laptops, tablets, smartphones and printer. The wifi network worked fine for a couple of days. But now one of the laptop "refuses" to see the Linksys wifi network. The other devices are still connected and running regularly.
The notebook that does not connect anymore is an ACER 5740DG with an Atheros Network adapter and Windows 7 installed. This notebook is otherwise running fine.At the beginning it was connecting ok and we never had any problem at all with the previous router Belkin_N+_7991AC, that I changed just for speed.
Now the Linksys network is simply not visible to such notebook in the "Available Connections List" that I get clicking on the WiFi icon in the bottom right, while a number of other wifi networks (not mine) are clearly visible. Of course I restarted the notebook properly. For one time I got the visibility of the Linksys, I entered the password and then it was not possible to see the network anymore. No error message from Smart WiFi software.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Vaio VGNFW378D that runs with Windows Vista. Ever since I got this computer (about 2 yrs ago), I have had problems with it suddenly disconnecting from the internet. When this happens it could never detect any wireless networks and I would have to restart the computer to temporarily solve the problem. It usually happened after the computer was in hibernation.
Yesterday this happened again, only this time restarting the computer did not solve the problem. When I could not connect to a network I clicked on "Diagnose why Windows cannot find any additional networks" and it said "Install wireless networking hardware, and verify that the correct drivers are loaded".
I went onto the Sony website to download the Intel Wifi link 5100 AGN wireless LAN Driver and updates. The download was not successful and I received a message indicating that the latest updates of this driver were already installed in my computer.
Representatives at Sony only directed me to links that had steps to finding out what my problem was, which I followed with no success. Most of the steps included enabling the adapter in the device manager, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, etc...I could not do any of these things because the driver does not appear in the device manager at all.
In the next month or so I plan to replace my old desktop PC. It is currently connected to a Linsys E3200 wireless router. I have many other wireless devices also running off the E3200, but my PC is the only wired device connected to it. When I replace the wired PC do I simply switch the new one in with the existing ethernet connection (I'm sure it is not that simple) or do I have to start over again recreating my entire network..security etc.. ? If so what is the process to start over ? Do I have to reset something on the router, reload cisco connect, create a new network name?
