Wifi Connection Access - Local Only
Jun 19, 2012My brother is visiting me, and i am trying to connect his computer to my router (wireless), i got connected but access says local Only.When connected by wire i get internet access ( Access: local and Internet)His computer had several adwares/spywares and numerous toolbars...... that i uninstalled. Cleaned by Malwarebytes and AVG 2012 free edition.Scan results are clean now.
ISP: RCN (cable 25mbps)
Router: Cisco Linksys E1000.
Cable Modem: Motorolla surband
I have 2 other computers connected through wifi on this router without any problem. Vonage Phone is connected to this router. Xbox is connected wireless and LG Blu-ray player is connected (wired).Xirrus Wi-Fi inspector screenshot is attached, IPCONFIG /all was run wile wireless was on ( of course Local only) but cable was not connected.

Various Laptops Will Not Connect To Wifi / Local Connection Only
Dec 12, 2011Me and my girlfriend moved into our new flat in September and since then we've been sharing my laptop as her laptop refuses to connect to our Wi-Fi, we are with Virgin Media and I have had literally no connection problems whatsoever but hers gives us various errors like 'No Internet Access' 'Local Connection Only' and sometimes it will connect for about 4 minutes and then just disconnects again, the only Anti-Virus she has running is AVG. It has also happened with friends who have brought there laptops over.

I can't able to recognize a system - all wifi clients lose connection. When this happens, the ping answer time rech the ~2000 times, then totally lose the connection, the SSID is dissapear - checking with my phone (android - wifi analyzer) and TL-WN822N USB wifi adapter (with the inSSIDer application). Meanwhile the cable clients and the WAN connections works fine, didn't experience anything.If I restart the wifi service with the hardware on/off button, it runs well for some time.This problem appeared when I used the two older official firmware too.
I tried the auto-chanel function width auto channel width, tried to manually set up one of the less interfered channels with both 20MHz and 40MHz channel width, but none of them bring the solution.The intresting thing is, if I change the router with an old D-Link DI-604, the signal is weak, but the wifi connection is stable, with the same TL-WN822N adapter.I tried to guarantee the router, but after two weeks, my reseller said, it looks ok, they - at the TP-Link service - didn't find anything.

I have a television there that needs to have its operating system upgraded through the internet. All it has is a LAN connector. How do I get my Laptop to convert the WiFi to LAN so all I need to do is connect a LAN cable between my laptop and the TV? Or do I need to buy something cheap to convert WiFi to LAN?

Jan 16, 2011I'm trying to get an HP laptop running Win7 to see a desktop running WinXP on my network (both wired and wireless) When I run the troubleshooter in Win7, it tells me "system clock does not match local time" as the reason. I have a Belkin wireless router attached to my cable router. I have updated the system clock via the internet on the desktop and checked the time setting in BIOS. These seem to match. I have googled around on this and can't find any accounts similar. My son's Vista laptop and the Win7 laptop have seen each other since day one. The laptop and desktop did see each other at one time, but the connection was lost after I went to a hotel and changed public network settings temporarily. I can ping the desktop from the laptop, but it times out when pinging the laptop from the desktop. I'm running an avast firewall on both, but can't see a problem there.

I always use remote desktop to access End Users computers,when I log in with my user name its OK but when I try to log in with End-User user name I got this message.The local policy of this system does not permit you to logon interactively.I do alot of searches and they said I have to add user name to remote access desktop group, which is difficult because I cannot add all users to the remote desktop group.when the user become a local admin to his machine , then I can access his computer remotely with his user name, and of course I cannot make all users local admins because I have to break the local admin group policy.

Random System Hangs Caused By Wifi Adapter
Nov 1, 2012Two years ago, a lightning strike fried my ADSL router and LAN port on the motherboard (ASUS A7V8X-X) of my now very old system. After that, I bought a Wi-Fi USB adapter (AirLive WL1600-USB) and disabled the fried LAN port. Since that moment, my computer kept freezing totally randomly for the past two years - it didn't matter whether I run a dozen of programs or simply leave the system alone. First I didn't know what's causing those freezes, until a week ago. You see, we were forced to cancel our ADSL account for four months, so I haven't used that Wi-Fi adapter for the entire summer (I disconnected it and uninstalled its drivers). During that time - not a single freeze for four months, no matter how great the system load or temperature. A couple of weeks ago, we activated our ADSL account again, so I plugged the Wi-Fi adapter in and installed its drivers - and the freezes started again.

May 17, 2012I have been using my ACER tablet with my Netgear router for several months with no problems at all. Then last night I decided to restore my tablet to its default settings, meaning that all my programs, apps, files, etc., were erased. Then I rebooted my tablet and started from scratch, entering the requested information. Everything appeared to be going just fine until I turned on Wi-Fi and attempted to connect to my network (Secured with WPA2), which was available and showed Good signal strength. I clicked on it, then attempted to enter my password. As soon as I entered the first digit of my password, the option to Connect to the Internet immediately disappeared, becoming greyed-out. Repeated attempts to connect failed for the same reason.
I called ACER Level 2 Support and tried a couple of procedures which didn't solve the problem. One was pushing the Reset Button twice. The technician told me that I may have a problem with my router settings. He suggested that I go to a local fast food outlet and see if I could connect there. I went to McDonald's and was able to get on the Net without using a password. I returned home and tried again to connect, but still was unable to enter my password.
Would it make sense for me to completely disconnect my router from everything, then reconnect and go through that set-up process all over again? I guess I would have to change my User Name & Password, or whatever is required. Also, if I go this route, should I change my security setting from WPA2 to a different option -- WEP, for example? I just don't want to foul things up to the point where my laptop wouldn't work. I doubt that would happen. I recently received the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade which has been working satisfactorily; however, it does mean that I'm now attempting to start over from scratch with a different operating system.

Mar 21, 2012I've made an observation that the newer routers above my E3000 don't have LED icons to indicate the port is connected/active and also to show Wi-Fi is active? I find this good at a glance without having to go look in the back of the unit to see which ports are open etc.

Dec 6, 2011lost wifi access thru local (home) connection. can connect thru public network. my grandma during last visit accidentally changed the network to her laptop. Have tried to reset netgear wnr2000v1 with pin in back. turned off and waited and turned back on again--no success. have tried to set up new network--see the network listed but no internet access available. have modem/router from comcast. Oct 23, 2012I have a local network that I want to connect to a WiFi site. The site is a free service offered to our community by a local ISP. The network uses a wireless router but cable links the two relatively old PCs. They are used for a single inventory-accounting program. One serves as the softwre host. The organization wants episodic Internet access so they can use a software update auto installation service. There are alternative ways to accomplish these updates, but this pathway is the only one acceptable to the organization. Why they reject a simple thumb drive using an out of system download is beyond me, but it seems to be a locked in idea. Oh, the current wireless router cannot accept DD-WRT, but one is available if it can be used if useable.
